Great (mostly sour, mostly Belgian) beer selection. Really good charcuterie plate. Chill vibes. I was only in Brussels for 2 days and I'm a huge beer person. A friend told me this was a good place to hang out for a few hours in between work things. He was totally right. They had 20--30 beers on tap with a focus on local and good sour Belgian beers. I had at least one Cantillion while I was there. I also had a hefty afternoon snack of the charcuterie plate while I was there. I'd definitely come back. My only regret is that I was there by myself and thus couldn't drink as many different beers as I would have liked. We ended up being in Brussels for Cantillon's Zwanze Day Festival, and booked tickets in advance, and Moeder was one of the few bars in the city that was tapping the 2024 Cantillon Zwanze beer. It was such an experience! There were beer tents outside, live music and lots of great beer flowing. We ended up getting 2 seats at the booth, and the servers were very attentive despite how busy they were. The ambience was also super nice - I liked all of the decor. We didn't end up getting food here but we were right near the small prep kitchen and the food looked pretty good coming out. You'll find the ever constant Belgian beer, but a multitude of the famed Brussels-born lambic styles. It is strange that you would not have time to wander over to Cantillon, but under the special circumstances you are unable, then Moeder Lambic possesses an obscene number of rare finds in the form of vintage Cantillon on their bottle list. We had a sweet bottle of Fou Foune 2017 at 40 euros. Of course, there are plenty of beer on tap too. I do like that you are able to order a partial pours (25cl) to just sample. If you want Belgian beer, this is definitely one of the spots to go. They have a good variety to choose from and can order 25ml pours in case you want to try some. There were a lot to choose from so I asked the waiter for some recommendations. The recommendations I got were decent, I enjoyed their normal Belgians and blondes over their IPAs. It sounded like most of their IPAs weren't juicy, more hoppy. I tried their Primativo 031 IPA which was a little hoppy. I enjoyed the Meileurs Voeux winter ale with its slightly amber flavors and a little hint of crispness. Overall when they say Belgium beers are good, they aren't wrong. Our first stop in Brussels and one of our favorite places to get great beer. The beer choices were top notch and tasty. I don't think Belgium makes any bad beer, though, so what makes this place shine is the ambience and the long list of choices. We sat outside in an area that was a little tucked away from the crowd but still had a chill buzz going. I admit that I do not know much about beer, but my husband does, so he did the ordering, we shared them all, and everything was delicious. He also rated each (in parentheses 1-5) in Untappd. We had the Guldenberg Belgian Tripel (4.00), the Saison de Bruxelles (3.50), La Moederation, Belgian Strong Golden Ale (4.00), Troubadour Magma Belgian IPA (4.25), Moeder Supérieure Brown Ale (3.75), and Nath Lambic (4.00). Those are some pretty good scores. The choices for food were quite limited, which may have been a blessing. We did order a couple of the cheese plates for sustenance while drinking and we would likely have stayed here all night had there been food, but instead we discovered a lovely Syrian restaurant across the road when hunger was undeniable. I came across Moeder Lambic when I was on the Thaly's from Paris en route to Antwerp. I decided to stop in Brussels (been before in 2012) for several hours on a Saturday afternoon. I was craving a Belgian beer and came across Moeder Lambic which was a good 15-20 minute stroll from the Central Train Station (miss the Le Meridien Brussels that use to be there). I was traveling solo and was able to snag a table outside. The weather in early April was sunny and I was able to plot my gear down and people watch. The servers were busy running all over but they were attentive. I asked for their recommendation and they suggested I get the Gueuze Tilquin. It was a refreshing beverage for a sunny afternoon. After I paid, I was in search of some pomme frites before making my way back to the train station to Antwerp. I highly recommend checking out Moeder Lambic when in Brussels. There were plenty of groups just hanging around with a few glasses, but the noise level never got to the point where we would have to yell to have a conversation. The servers were extremely helpful in whittling down the massive selection of beers for us by asking us what kind of beer we usually drink, whether we like fruity/smooth/hoppy/etc. The results that they brought out were spot on. It seems to be a popular place for recording as we stumbled upon a Photoshoot of sorts the day that we went. We wondered if we could get in on that too. The menu is huge with each beer having its own specific glass; all hanging high from the ceiling creating an almost chandelier effect. I visited Moeder Lambic three times in a 48-hour period. It was home to my first beer in Brussels and my very last. Plus many in between! This bar operates at my speed. Chill atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders, and an excellent beer list. One fail: I kept calling it "Moedic." New nickname, yeah...? But seriously. Prices are fair. Beer is fresh (or old, if it's supposed to be old). You get the good stuff (Cantillon). There are places to sit. You won't feel overcrowded. The bathroom is clean. The hours are awesome. A great place for a variety of beers and some really good food! After dinner my wife and I took a walk and eventually headed to a brew pub my son had recommended. Moeder Lambic has a nice variety of beers from lambics to Porters. I ordered an Adelardus Brune a dark flavorful dubbel that has 7% alcohol and was quite good. The beer was accompanied by complimentary roasted barley as a snack which I really enjoyed. We also order an excellent charcuterie board that had a nice serving of a variety of high quality meats and cheeses along with a good portion of fresh bread. It was definitely a surprise to see Dieu du Ciel Aphrodisiaque as one of their guest taps! I love the relaxing and laid back vibe of this place. Moeder Lambic is probably the best beer bar I've ever been to. Their beer selection is top notch, their charcuterie boards are delicious, and their staff is the best. For beers, I had: -Cuvee de Ranke -Degustator Jeandy 10th Anniversary Moeder Lambic Original For food, I had the cured sausage and cheese (I forget what kind). The portion sizes were incredibly generous. At first, I thought the cheese was on top of a piece of bread, but nope, it was just a thick ass piece of cheese. The bartender recommended I dip the sausage in the mustard, then into the fried hops (as opposed to beer nuts), and goddamn, it was delicious. Speaking of my bartender, his name was Colin and he was one of the most helpful guys ever. A tourist who didn't speak English grabbed a seat next to me and wanted to order beer, but didn't know how to order. So Colin gave him a bunch of samples of different styles of beer and asked him which one he liked best. Great service! Easily the best place in Brussels for non-standard draft Belgian Beer. This place is the opposite of Delirium Cafe: no throngs of dilettantes crowding the bar and ordering light beer. It's bright, clean, and civilized although it does skew a little hipster. In a very un-Belgian twist, there's is a long, stone bar with plenty of seating and a great outdoor terrace. There are some 30 taps, including about 20 regulars, with the rest being guest beers from small breweries in Switzerland, the UK, etc. Their regular draft line-up is heavy on lambics (mostly hand-pulled cask Cantillon products), sours, and good beers from small, independent producers (Kerkom, Contreras, Slaghmuylder, etc). They also have some large format (75ml) bottles from the likes of De Leite and De Ranke. Food consists mainly of cheese and sausage from small local producers. The one full meal that they serve, carbonade (Flemish stew) is to die for! read more

The wife and I had heard that all the cool kids hang out at Moeder Lambic, so we needed to go check it out. We wound up there on 2 occasions during our recent visit to Brussels. It seems that they are always busy as we twice needed to squeezed in at the bar to get a seat. If they were having a problem with unruly patrons throwing around the bar stools, they solved that by making the bar stools weigh like a hundred pounds. These were solid wood with a heavy metal frame. They were difficult to move in a tight space let alone throw them around. Anyway, we got the attention of a server and quickly ordered a couple of beers. Cantillon on tap?, yes please! We were still jet lagged on our first visit and felt like we needed to eat as well. They have a smaller menu of small snacks to bigger plates with what I presume is traditional Belgium pub food. Many things sounded good, but I ordered the classic quiche and the wife got a veggie quiche. Both were really well prepared and the wife noted that they were perfectly fluffy and flavorful. On the second visit, I tired the dry sausage and some aged cheese for another fine meal experience. The service was good and efficient, but definitely a different experience from North America. It may be that servers in Europe don't throw out that warm and fuzzy vibe. Either way the service was fine and apparently a lot of places in Europe, including Brussels/Belgium, include a service charge which makes tipping less common if not completely non-existent. I would definitely return without hesitation and it's a great place to hang out and sample some great beers. read more

Great beers, tasty appetizers and awesome service. What a combo. We managed (after ordering two rounds of beer and a mixed platter) to get a booth inside, as the outside was sorta cold for us foreigners :) It was hard convincing us to leave after that. Our waiter helped us choose the beers we wanted next, and was very attentive through the whole night. The mixed platter seemed a bit pricey at 15.50€, but the quality of the time served were well worth it (all but a single piece of cheese that was too strong in odor and taste even for me, and I like to think of me as not a picky eater). Beers are between 3.50 and 4€ /250ml, other than the Lambic and Gueuze ones (alas, I give up; these are definitely not my kinds of beer). Even with a full house, our waiter was still able to pamper us, making us feel quite at home (the blonde, short haired one - sorry we didn't catch your name). 9 terrific beers, 1 mixed platter, 1 sausiche and tip added up to 60€ for 2.
