Definitely a fan of this place. Love the atmosphere and were lucky enough to sit is a quaint little booth in the back of the restaurant. We had the Jamaican jerk chicken and the seafood jambalaya. The chicken was fair, but the jambalaya rocked. Big shrimp and scallops and great flavors. Also had the southern fried green pepper rings for an appetizer. Awesome!!! Let me start with the drinks first!! Best French Martini around. Two of those bad boys and I was feeling great. Other places around town cant seem to get it right. Now for the food. I am not a spicy eater so some of the dishes are not for me. I had them add more and more rice to the gumbo because it was so spicy. The turtle soup tasted strange. Crawfish Etouffee, Coconut shrimp are good and so is the Crawfish Po Boy. Bar gets really crowded on weekends and wait for table can be long. Owners are great! read more

Boar burger was AMAZING. Everything at this place has been great and my kids love it here! They love the gator nuggets, just make sure to tell them to bring a different dipping sauce if your kids don't like spicy sauces. My kids are very sensitive to anything a tad bit spicy :) read more

Don't get the oysters Lola they were cold the bacon was way to chewy to even eat and overall the worst oysters I've ever eaten in my life! Server forgot utensils and didn't bring any when they brought the corn bread. Nice beer selection but won't be coming back to eat. read more

Ok I'm not gonna completely slam this place and say don't try it. With that being said I live in Louisiana close to New Orleans and kinda know Cajun food. Me and my friends wanted to try it out and see what was up with it. After reading the menu we all 3 where just trying to find something we even wanted to attempt to eat. I pulled the trigger on the jambalaya, side of red beans and rice(premium side), and cheese mashed potatoes. So let's start at the Red beans and rice. No season was bland on that front and was loaded with spice. One bite and the rest of your dinner would not be tasted. Next they used pinto beans for the beans. Anyone knows that kidney beans are used to make red beans and rice, one for flavor and two so that you can get that good juice to enjoy with them. Next the jambalaya. So it's made with chicken, ham, tomatoes, andouille sausage(from Louisiana),and rice. Let's start here tomatoes don't belong in jambalaya so let's x nay those. Next ham another ingredient that can be used however not in chunks like you get on your hash browns at Waffle House. Next the chicken not much to say about it other than it could have been shredded little better. Now to this andouille sausage that's from Louisiana. I took one bite of it and instantly knew that's not what it is. I then gave a piece to my friend and he started laughing and agreed that it's not andouille. So we asked the waiter where it comes from and he returns and said that it's from some place in Louisiana and is brought up directly from there. Now let's get to the rice. Don't expect to eat creole or Cajun when you order the jambalaya you will be dining on some decently ok Spanish rice bagged rice. I honestly started looking for my refried beans to mix with it. Cheese potatoes were the best thing I ordered. I asked to speak with the manger and wow was I met with attitude. I explained i reside in Louisiana and that honestly this was an embarrassment and that this isn't the creole food i was told I'd be ordering. I asked her about the sausage and her reply was some woman drives to Louisiana and gets it and brings it back. So they serve that sausage on many dishes and I'm thinking does she drive a big box truck down and back once a week. She said she would take 50% of the jambalaya that I had honestly taken 4-5 bites of. And said you have to remember we are in Plainfield. The bread pudding all me and my two friends could say was the praline sauce was amazing. The rest was not worth much. It was not bread it was monkey bread. The alcohol they use for flavor was a new one to me. All in all with red beans removed and the jambalaya cut to 50% they hand the bill to us (oh yea it can't be split it all has to be on one). So add those and the potatoes and the $9 draft ipa beer my dinner was $40. Overall service was good the hostess and waitr was very nice. The food only giving 1 star because 0 or half not option. The head chef and owner need to take a flight to New Orleans and go enjoy some creole food. The manger sour attitude and bad customer service skills. Go eat here if you like what you see but just please keep in mind this is so far from creole Cajun food it's a disgrace to have them claim that's the cuisine. Seriously please come to New Orleans and I will show you creole food and let you see the ingredients you use in jambalaya, gumbo and few other staples are way off. read more

We discovered Moe Joe's when we were invited to a friend's birthday party. They had reserved the downstairs room (with its own bar!), and we had a myriad of appetizers to eat. Being a huge fan of Cajun food, I was excited to find such a place so close to home. We came back the next week with the kids who absolutely loved the place. My son got the kid's alligator bites and really enjoyed them. Our waitress, who said to call her "Huckleberry" was very attentive and great with the kids. She made one mistake when my wife ordered the chicken wings but received the chicken dinner (the descriptions are similar on the menu). It didn't bother us, but the waitress was very apologetic, and the manager came out to apologize. They then treated us to a free dessert (the wonderfully addictive beignets). The food is outstanding. I've had the jumbalaya, etoufee, and the wild boar burger so far. All were very good, but the burger blew me away. It was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of spice. And it's huge! I've also tasted the sugarcane shrimp, alligator, and chicken wings. Nothing has been less than great. They have a very nice beer selection, and being a beer snob it was nice to see such a collection of craft beers. Most recently I had the Three Floyds Zombie Dust...wow. We love Moe Joe's, and we try to have dinner there every couple months. We've had two different servers so far (Huckleberry more than once), and the service has always been top notch. Here is the thing about MoeJoe's: I love, love, love the atmosphere and food. I absolutely hate the service. If you go here be prepared for a 3 hour dining experience. Sometimes we just head to the bar to get the gator bites and then get the heck out of there. This is a great place to take out-of-towners and one of the few restaurants in downtown Plainfield to survive more than a few years. The gumbo is good but very spicy. Everything else that I have had on the menu is top-notch. There are different crowds depending on when you go. Weekend nights are most definitely for the younger crowd as this is one of the primary drinking establishments in Plainfield. I frequent this place often as I only live a few blocks away. I just wish the service was better. It is what keeps them from getting 5 stars. Go for the gator bites! They are phenomenal! read more

Ok...here's another review where I may not be that popular. I've given the food and beer at Moe Joe's enough chances to redeem themselves. The food isn't just a little sub par...it's downright bad. The gumbo, the fish...bad and bad. The only way to make things worse is to serve an old, flat Abita amber...which they have on a couple of occasions. I'm no stranger to NoLa cooking/food and Moe Joe's severely misses the mark. I could care less about the feel of the place or how many beads are floating around...I want good food and good beer. I would recommend, instead of going to Moe Joe's for Cajun food, visit John Folse's website or better yet one of his books. It's not only filled with great recipes it's written by a chef/Louisiana historian. I don't know if it was just the night we were there, but the crowd was comprised of cougars and shorter than your sunday dress skirts, tattoos came free with admission, and the beer flowed freely. Horrible experience. I made a reservation for 10 at 7pm for my husbands birthday dinner on a Monday. Our party walked in right at 7pm. The hostess told us they were busier than they expected and just needed to put some tables together. Only problem they were all full. It seems a reservation means nothing. I asked to speak to the owner or manager. It seems non of the above were working. We were finally seated at 7:45. After ordering a bunch of appetizers, we were starving, I approached the hostess to ask if they would bring a small desert with a candle for my husbands birthday. She said that if I ordered him a desert they would put a candle in it. When I suggested that I thought they should supply this she said they could bring out a corn bread with a candle. Really, almost an hour to sit down for dinner and you can bring me a corn bread with a candle. Honestly, the food was just ok. Our server Arial was decent, but I'll never come back. To me it is all about the customer. If the food was exceptional I might feel different but there are many great restaurants to in which to spend my valuable dollars! read more

I love NOLA, and I miss all of the eats you can find in the French Quarter. I'd been wanting to try Moe Joe's for awhile but wasn't sure because of the poor service reviews. So...the food and service was great! Our waitress was attentive, had our drinks to the table in less than 5 minutes and our food came out piping hot probably 30 minutes after we ordered. This place pisses me off. I used to come here for the delicious Cajun food especially the Alligator and Frog legs, and it was really good. Now I am talking about quite a few years ago, maybe even 10 years ago. These bastards then got a new chef or new management now the Cajun food is disgusting! To all my vegetarians and vegans out there, beware of ordering from here! While I was ordering a meal that was clearly marked vegetarian ( one that I've ordered multiple times before and was never warned up until now ) my waitress kindly told me that their rice is cooked in chicken broth... how are you even allowed to mark something as vegetarian safe when it is clearly not??? Please fix this, I'm very disappointed that you would lie about your food and wrongfully mark it as vegetarian. I debated between a three and four star rating. Four star food but three star service. As I think our server was just having an off night, we'll go with four! Let's start with the service: We were in in a Saturday for an earlier dinner (about 6pm). It was busy, but we were seated right away. Our server promptly greeted us & took a drink order, we ordered our appetizer right away as well. She returned with my son's coke quickly and our two beers arrived shortly after. We took a bit to decide on the rest of our meal. Once we were ready, she took our order & all seemed good & well. My wife and I ordered cups of Gumbo & we all ordered entrees. The app arrived. The app was eaten. The server cleared the app plate & we ordered another round of beers and a refill of my son's coke. Then we waited. Then we waited. Eventually, the server shows up with the coke refill, but no beers. Then we wait some more. Now, our entrees show up. We mention that our Gumbo had never arrived and that we still needed our beers. The server then retrieved our beers & brought the gumbo alongside our meals. She was generally slow, yet pleasant, the rest of the meal. I honestly think she was just having an off night as other than some forgetfulness, she was solid. Let's move on to the food! The grilled andouille app is delicious! The sausage has a nice heat and flavor. My wife got the Shrimp Creole and liked it. My son got the kebabs and liked it. I had the Fried Catfish Poboy which was excellent! The portions are huge. We brought a lot of food home. I definitely want to return to check out some of the other items. The food made up for the uneven service. In the end, I will definitely be back. read more
