I'm always SO torn about this place. The food is great, but the service is consistently terrible!! Today we went in for a late lunch. There were six tables seated and plenty of hostesses/ waitresses, but the stayed huddled, talking in the back. They completely ignore customers. Our entire time there, we had ONE drink with our meal. We also waited 25 minutes just for the bread. No one there ever seems to care about customers and I've never seen a manger. This place is in dire need of a bar-rescue! read more

This has been a family favorite for a while, but the past few times we've visited, it has continuously gotten worse. Some of the staff are the best, and they work their butt off, but many waitresses seem annoyed to be working there. I went recently and had someone in my group order a drink and took one sip, and I mean a sip; it tasted like syrup, so she asked for a new one. Traditionally most restaurants won't charge you for it; they will accommodate you and give you a new one. Well, not here. We had a pretty hefty bill, so it wasn't like we were trying to skip to get anything free, but when the entire drink tasted like a Monin syrup factory, it's not a quality drink. Next, none of the food looks fresh, and it's barely even warm by the time it gets to the table. Most of the food seems to be sitting out, so a lot of it looks dried out. Just overall unappetizing, which is disappointing because they used to have great food. After this recent visit, I won't be coming back, and I don't recommend it. read more

My boyfriend and I are visiting from Alabama, and we met some friends here based on their recommendation. I cannot rave about this place enough! We did have to wait a while to be seated, but that was to be expected on a busy Friday night. But boy, were we in for a treat! Everything was excellent, from our server (Mia, you rocked and made us feel right at home!) to the drinks to the meal. This place has a unique vibe, and the building itself had its own persona. The four of us split crab cakes and alligator tail for apps. And the boyfriend and I split their fried green tomato BLT for dinner. The food, while I wouldn't say is 100 percent authentic...is DELICIOUS. The flavors were all banging, and each dish seemed to be this establishments personal spin on Cajun favorites. Moe Joe's is Great! Fun atmosphere, great food, awesome staff! I have gone several times and have always had a blast and great experience. There is an outside cafe area, a dinning room, a bar area and a basement bar area that can be rented out for private parties. Even people (like my husband) that can't handle the spicy cajun style can find something they'll love, the kitchen staff will cook to order if you need them to. Dinner rush starts around 8pm and then bar crowd start in around 10pm. They always have some fun parties that draw a big crowd. Despite the "fun party" atmosphere Moe Joe's is very kid friendly. So no worries if you want to take your little ones with for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend trying Moe Joe's out! read more

Awesome little spot in downtown Plainfield! I always have a good time! Food is good, bar is nice and they have a great drink list. Downstairs is pretty damn cool, you don't get many "dive-style" bars with a random basement like that anymore. Definitely recommend giving it a shot! read more

People were waiting in line too. Since it was a week night, the cooking and wait staff were probably unprepared for such a large crowd. It was more like a Saturday night. But, kudos to our waiter, Christopher. He was on top of our drinks; we never had to wait for a refill. He was very nice and polite too, in spite of it being so crazy busy. We didn't see him slow down once. He kept us up to date on how our food was coming along so we had no need to wonder or ask someone. We asked for a doggie bag and he brought it right away. like many others, i thought the food was actually very good but the service was slower than almost any other place i go to. It took me 10 minutes after sitting down for me to have to get out of my chair and go request a server which took 5 more mins so basically 20 minutes just to get a water and a beer. so if you are very hungry and plan on getting fed within 30-45 mins, i would not recommend. going in a large group im sure would be a disaster. i will be returning to give the service a 2nd chance if service was prompt and courteous i would have given 5 stars for sure. read more

Eight of us had dinner here midweek. I immediately loved the decide, lighting, and ambiance. It was decorated for Halloween very elegantly. Out server was pleasant and perky. We started 3 appetizers to share: the gator bites, the crawfish boil, and the friend green tomatoes. The gator bites were the best I've had; not rubbery at all. The crawfish were good and had no potato filler- it was all crawfish with one corn in the cob on top. The fried green tomatoes were ok. Maybe like they were trying too hard. They were good but served in bread with some sauce on top. Just the tomatoes would have been fine. Most were happy with their main course. I got the tuna and it was fishy. I didn't eat it. The Mac and cheese was just ok. The beans were ok. One friend got the blackened catfish and he said it was great. I should have ordered that. Rise that ordered creole dishes like what they ordered. As the place filled up, service got worse. Our dirty plates were rarely cleared; some crawfish shells were still on the table at dessert time. We split the bananas foster type dish and the sweet potato pie with pecans. Both were good but we all agreed we wanted the pecan topping to be sweeter. read more

Keep looking.. There's not a lot of cajun options in the Chicago area but there are better ones than this out there. The interior did remind me of the French Quarter but the food is just "okay cajun food" some of it downright disappointing. No WOW factor here and the gumbo is nothing to write home about. The attached bar is good though with a great staff and excellent beer selection. It get's pretty hopping so I would recommend the bar for a drink in a heartbeat. Outdoor seating in downtown Plainfield is also always a plus as well. I hope they kick the food up a notch cause if they do they'll have a real winner but for now I gotta call it like I see it. read more

We used to love Moe Joe's. But, it's definitely not what it once was. If you have a party of 7;or more, you can count on an 18% gratuity. We never saw our server even though the place was empty. We waited 30 minutes after ordering for our food to be brought out. Two at a time over the next 25 minutes. It was a celebration so we waited for everyone to have food before beginning. So the first (earliest) food delivered was cold by the time we could all start. Ruined our twins graduation celebration. If you're celebrating anything, go somewhere else. read more

Wife and I went tonight for our anniversary, her choice. We went before 6 pm as it had been a long day and neither one had much of a lunch. I started with a cup of gumbo and my wife had the fried pickles. Both very good. She had the blackened catfish with a side of green beans and a cup of red beans and rice. I had the catfish acadian. My dish was very good, but my etouffee was not hot. Our waitress was a bit on the ditzy side, but she did fine. Beer selection is good. Overall a good dining experience. read more

They usually have daily drink specials. $1 bottles on Mondays. Sitting outside on the patio on the main road is fun to enjoy. Very fun and friendly staff. Complimentary cornbread and honey butter is awesome. Good Eats: Resurrection Burger, Wild Boar Burger, Blackened chicken salad, Frog legs on top of mashed potatoes with creole cream sauce, arracnid balls, crawfish tails. If you get the crawfish boil, you must ask for extra seasoning and spices in your boil. If you don't your food will come out tasting so bland you won't like it. Loved the feel, decor and atmosphere of this New Orleans themed restaurant. I love the Hurricanes and the Gummy Bear martinis. We were there over the weekend and shared the alligator appetizer which is a must have. There aren't too many places that you can order alligator at and not be afraid to eat it! For dinner, I had the Shrimp Etouffee and my friend had the Jambalaya. Both entrees were excellent! Portion sizes were very generous and we had some to take home for lunch the next day. Of course, my favorite part of the meal was the Bourbon Cheesecake! To die for! It was very decadent. This place is definitely worth the trip to Plainfield! read more

I had the Boar Burger 2 times, the first was fantastic. It was so good I cut it into quarters to share and everyone agreed it was outstanding. The toppings and flavors combined wonderfully, it was ranking in my top 5 burgers of all time, it was a 5 star dish. However........ The second time it was still good but I think it was over cooked. The meat seemed dry, and I needed drinks to get down some bites. I was much less impressed.... Because the first was such a good experience I will try a third time, I hope it resembles the first visit. I like this place and want it to do well. The wait staff was young and inexperienced, but they try hard. I cut them some slack because they are nice, even when mistakes happen. read more

Food here is pretty good. I really love the sweet potato fries! However, every time I have been there, the service is crazy slow, whether it is busy or there are only a few tables of diners. Also, after 10ish at night, it is a major meat market, which might be a perk for some people, but not for me. I have not found the other bars downtown Plainfield to have the same meat market vibe. First time at Moe Joes, found out about it online, and I took my husband for his birthday tonight. I'm so glad I did. Our hostess, Mia, made us feel very, very, welcomed and she explained to us that there's a long wait for the food because everything is made fresh. That statement made us even more excited to taste the food and it was worth the wait. We loved the ambiance, music, and atmosphere. We didn't have to wait long for our waitress, Caitlin, to take our order and she was very friendly and patient with us. I had the Homade (yes it's spelled that way on the menu) Chicken Platter w/loaded mash potatoes and Mac n cheese and my husband had the New Orleans Style Crawfish Boil appetizer, Red Beans & rice, and Moe joe Gumbo, and the cornbread. Good, but far from great. Had the cajun burger and immediately noticed how tall it was on the plate. I dont get the deal with these cooks/chefs that think its so amazing that they can make a giant burger with all kinds if toppings, that usually take away from the actual burger rather than help it and think they are doing something new and cool. You know what would be cool? A burger that I dont have to eat with a fork and knife because the bun can't hold half of it. Not to mention all the toppings and loads of sauce on it. I cant tell if I'm even tasting any flavor from the burger. Flavor is not the problem, there is lots of it and its good, just need a better experience with eating the food. read more

I am from the South so when I have a craving for my Cajun back home cooking, I go here. The atmosphere is somewhat dark and reminds me of Bourbon Street locale, but nice, I and the kids especially like the private room with crosses in them... Online menu prices for a alligator po-boy was 11.95 And when I paid for my sandwich it was 17.95 plus tax I was appalled and asked to talk to manager and all she told me was online prices are subjection change. Atmosphere was great, nice dimly lit surroundings, lots of candles, lots of people, loud music playing, cool place to go, however, food menu was not that great! Food itself was A-OK. but nothing to write home about. We ordered the carribean jerk shrimp for appetizer, and it was not at all as good as we were expecting....so they get points for the atmosphere, but points get taken away for the lackluster menu/food items. I'm allergic to shellfish so going here to eat was bound to be a mistake... I actually found something to eat and to my surprise, it was excellent. I had the Muffaletta sandwich with is tomato focaccia bread stuffed with sliced mozzarella, Genoa salami, smoked ham, topped with a garlic olive salad. The calamari was good. The gator tail (omg, I ate a f'n gator!) was really good (again, to my surprise). The downstairs room is big and perfect for a birthday party (the reason I was there). You can comfortably fit about 50 adults downstairs. I'd suggest asking the bar for more then 1 bartender if you are having a party in the basement. Our poor bartender was also our waitress so she had to run upstairs every time someone wanted to order something and to get their check. When she did that, it left the bar wide open, with no one watching (stupid move made by the bar). Drunks will be drunks so some people got a few free drinks when that happened. When she left it also left for a full bar of people wanting drinks when she came back. read more

My better half is from New Orleans, and I lived in the New Orleans area for eight years. First impressions: this is the second worse sweet tea I have had in the Chicago area, and they serve it in a mason jar. Not good. The tea quality itself is good. However, you're passing yourself off as a New Orleans style restaurant and you don't have "Southern sweet tea"? Heaven on Seven has good Southern sweet tea. It was "all good" from there on out. My side was a Caesar salad which was surprisingly excellent. Why excellent? You're getting a Caesar side...what do you expect? Larger than a dinner salad and really good Caesar dressing. My lady had a shrimp po boy while I had the oyster version of the same. Oysters were fresh, fried to perfection. Crystal hot sauce on the table. The music had Virginia dancing in her seat.
