About five years ago this shop rebuilt my transmission. I drove it home about 50 miles to find out the 4WD didn't work. I drove it all the way back and he said they didn't hook up a vacuum line. About 35,000 miles later, second gear was in the pan & the 4WD wouldn't engage. So I brought my truck in again. They pretty much said it was because I didn't have the transmission serviced after one year. They worked with me on the cost, but I've now got nearly $3000 into this transmission. He also said my oil level was down a quart(which is weird because I changed the oil right before bringing it to Modesto Transmission & it was actually above the max line 1/8 of an inch) he said he added a quart of oil & I checked after I got the truck back home from the shop & the level is too high now(an inch above max line) So that really sucks because I used ultra full synthetic & Lucas synthetic stabilizer(a DIY oil change that cost $70 just for the oil & filter) & he probably put a quart of conventional in. He said he only charged me labor & ate the cost of the parts & fluid because they had previously rebuilt the transmission. But he also said the motor had an oil leak(which is weird because it's a Jasper rebuilt with less than 20k since the rebuild & theres no oil on my driveway & I didn't see any leak while changing the oil. I just don't know what to think, I guess time will tell(I have to bring it back in a year for a $150 service) My truck was at their shop for 9 days on this occasion. read more

So, I've had an engine light that stayed on in my 2000 Dodge Durango 4x4, come to find out it the Governor switches acting up. I call up another shop that I was suggested and they tell me I can't bring it in for a few days. I start work the next week so this is no good. I look up places via the internet to find a good transmission shop that isn't too far. I stumble across Modesto Transmission via Google. Sorry Yelp, your reviews on these guys do them no justice. First of all in the first call, I'm informed that he does his prices 30% less than other people for parts. His hourly work is cheaper too. So after talking to him I ask him when I can bring it in, he said bring it in tomorrow. Wonderful! I take it in the next day at 9am, where he introduces himself and some of his crew, he lets me know he has a garage full of about 20 something vehicles he's working on, but he wants to check mine out with the scanner and take it for a drive, if it's the switches it should be a relatively easy fix. I say ok. He drives it around and explains every movement my truck makes to help me understand since I'm not too keen on transmission stuff. He says he thinks it's just the switches and the code runs the same thing. I leave my truck there to be fixed expecting to get it the next day or so. I go out and eat with my wife and get a call around 11:45am to tell me I can get my truck around 12:15pm, this is the same day. I was shocked! That was really fast! I went in and talked to them about situation and he told me he just moved me in front of his bigger jobs because he knew I needed it back soon. That's customer service right there! The next day I was driving it to the store and the light came on. I was a bit disheartened and upset, so I called Kevin, the owner. He told me to bring it back in, I took it in right then and he stopped what he was doing and took a look at it. It took about 2-3 hours but he checked all the codes that came up again. He said it was a new code they hadn't seen and he exchanged more parts to fix the problem. This is without a charge aside from the initial switch. Apparently Dodge's can have some ghosting issues when their electronics act up, so he replaced the parts again(no charge), and he fixed the issue again. I drove off, happy as a pig in mud that my problem was fixed. This was short lived, I drove it home and by the time I got home the code had come up again. Exasperated I gave Kevin a call again he told me to bring it back in when I could, he also told me what it could possibly be, and they he wanted to inspect it further and dig deeper into the transmission for a few other parts to see if they might be faulty, this is without a code coming up for them because it might be a bigger problem within the electronics that might not even be a transmission problem. Again this is all still without threatening anymore charges. As I've dealt with before. Currently I dropped my kid off at school today, hit the gas station, and the light went off. Prior to this I've spent a lot of time on the phone with the shop and they're doing everything they can to help me find out what this problem is and hash it out. I'm driving the truck in hopes that the code stays off, but we'll see. If it comes back on I can bring it back to them and let them open it up and find the bigger problem if there is one. I can't say enough how happy I am with the customer service here, they don't sound exasperated or angry with me because my truck might have a bigger problem and I pester them with calls daily. Another note too, my truck shifts like a champ with the new parts, but the code has been popping up to let me know other things about my electronics, and that's what the shop is helping me with mainly. The price here is fantastic and they'll get to know you to help you out. Customer service like this that is so personalized is rare and almost non existent these days. Kevin has been in the business for a very long time and has a really loyal customer base. It's unfortunate that a lot of these reviews are hidden because they might be "too good" Well, guess what, they deserve it and I hope you take time to read the hidden reviews. I'll keep you updated on the truck issue, hopefully this is the last I've seen of it and I don't have to bug Kevin anymore, but I know if I have to he'll be more than willing to assist me. read more

My 2001 Denali had transmission problems so i brought it to Modesto transmission for an estimate. Spoke with Kevin (owner) and described the problem i was having with it. Kevin knew what the problem was and took the time to take me in his shop and show me a transmission he was in the process of rebuilding that was the same as the one in my vehicle. Very Honest place.. Took my truck to a Chevy Dealer for some drive-ability problems. Charged me $100 and Told me I needed transmission work. Modesto Transmission drove it for free and told me all I needed was spark plugs, the truck was dropping cylinders under load. Put in plugs and wamo, drives like new. These guys are sharp and intuitive, fast and fair. I took my car to 2 other transmission shops that said I needed a rebuild, Im so glad I got a 3rd opinion. It took Kevin almost no time to diagnose that the problem was the AWD and not the tranny, the other 2 mechanics had missed in completely. They tracked down the part I needed and had it fixed within a couple hours for 1/10 the cost of what I would have paid for a rebuild. They even gave me a ride to and from work! They rebuilt a VW transmission for me that seemed to baffle everyone else. I had just about given up when I came across this shop. They are the only ones I will do business with in the future. They are honest. Highly skilled and sincerely care about customer service. I have not been this pleased with a repair shop in many years. Save yourself the grief of looking elsewhere. They don't cut corners so don't ask. They do it right the first time and their price is very reasonable. I asked the tow truck driver if he had heard of their work and he said he sure has. Took my car in to get a clutch and I had to take it back because the motor mounts were not changed he fixed the work no problem it did take him a few.more hours then expected and he didn't charge us for the labor which we appreciated. HoWEVER when me and my husband went to pick it up the Secretary was complaing about the extra labor and the fact that he didn't charge us for the extra labor.then she informed me that the mechanics were saying I should just buy a new car. Who says that to a customer. I dont have money for a new car so I came to your shop to get mine repaired and after spending over a thousand dollars on a clutch and motor mounts I did not expect to be treated and talked to like I was bothering u with my garbage car. The guy was real nice and is a great mechanic and knows his stuff and I would trust him with my car and truck but I refuse to spend my money somewhere where they talk to you with such disrepect... and you lady you need to remember if everyone just went out and bought a new car you wouldnt be in business!!!! read more

We received wonderful service to rebuild our 2002 Rav4 transmission. They even notified us that the problem may be covered by an extended warranty. They were able to rebuild the transmission and have the ECM replaced, the cause of the transmission failure. They always kept me informed every step of the way. I submitted a claim to Toyota and got fully reimbursed a couple months later. The repair was done faster than the dealership because they could rebuild in-house and not wait for a back ordered rebuilt transmission. I will be honest. The first phone call I had with Kevin I was impressed. I was looking for a new transmission for my husband's 2001 s10 pickup. He seemed knowledgeable and honest. He quoted us a great price and everything could be handled over the phone since we (hubby and I) live in Tracy and work out of the area. The car was ready in just a few days. We did hit a bumpy road on Monday because the truck started acting up (just a few days later). There were some miscommunications and with that feelings of mistrust began. Versus becoming difficult, Kevin suggested that we take the truck to an independent mechanic to get a nuetral 3rd party review of the situation. We did that and Kevin took the time to meet the vehicle at the new mechanic's place of business to see what the issue was. The issue turned out to be the starter. Not knowing if it was the work that was done at his shop or not Kevin paid the replacement of the starter. I can honestly say that was more than I expected and that is why I am giving this shop such high rankings. There are not many that would pay the cost of the repair and on top of it go to the other mechanic's shop to look at what was done. Not only did this shop have the best prices but they made sure that they had a happy customer. This is unheard of in today's business world where customer service has taken the biggest hit! No one seems to care about their customers anymore. But this was definitely a surprise for me. He could have easily said that this was nothing to do with their work and that we were going to eat the cost of this repair but he did not. Hats off to Modesto Transmission and Kevin for going above and beyond what they needed to. They have earned my respect and repeat business (hopefully won't be needed lol).
