On time, professional, and quick to complete the job. The office staff also went above and beyond, calling the County in order to get paperwork showing where our tank is located, since we didn't know. Highly recommended. read more

We can't recommend Modern Septic enough! Kathi answered the phone and was so helpful and understanding; even on the 5th call of the day, since we had never dealt with this issue before and had trouble finding the 2nd lid to our septic tank. John came and was so courteous and addressed our issue and took the time to explain and answer all of our questions. You guys are lifesavers and we would give you a hundred stars if we could! read more

Because of the other good reviews, my realtor chose Modern Septic to do an inspection and cleaning on the septic tank for the sale of my home. The scheduled promptly and came on time on the day choose. Upon uncovering the tank lid, I was informed that the lid to the main tank was stuck and would probably need to be broken (made of concrete) to get it off. I understood that sometimes things like this happen, and asked if they had a replacement lid. The service person indicated that they probably had one in the "yard" and should cost around $50 but could not be sure as he didn't set prices. I told him that was no problem and to go a head. After cleaning the tank and inspecting it, he stated that there was a knock out cover missing on an unused outlet and that would need to be repaired as well as getting a new lid. I asked him about the repairs and he stated that someone would get back to me in about 2-3 business days. I then expressed my concern about an open septic tank in my yard and he said that we just put a trash can over it, which he did take on of my garbage cans and put it over the hole and then left. I figured that would be ok, it would only be a couple of days until it got fixed and sealed back up so no big deal. Well, after 2 days, I got an email with a bill for $740.00 and a list of other companies that could possibly conduct repairs. I called right away and asked what was going on. I was told that they don't conduct repairs, only inspections and cleanings. I expressed my concern that I was never told any of this and now I had an open cesspool in my yard with no estimated time of repair. I was told that the service person should have put plywood over the hole, which he did not, and that they would come right back out to do that. They never did. I had to contact a 3rd party to repair the tank that they damaged, replace the lid that they broke and could not replace and to conduct the knock out repair that the inspection found. Overall, this company provided poor service, communications and poor expectations of work from the start. I would not recommend using this company for any reason because of their bad customer service, non existent conversations about actual services provided and a complete disconnect between what the service person did and what was expected. read more

Since 2004, we have had our septic tank serviced twice; both times by Modern Septic. Once the homeowner has located and exposed the septic tank "hatches" this service is pretty straightforward... suction out the contents and rinse the sludge out of the bottom. Modern offers a small variety of services as the first time I needed assistance in locating our hatches (didn't know there were two) and I needed to replace a severely cracked "hatch". We try to support the smaller companies in East Co. SD. In each instance, we found Modern's staff to be polite and professional. On a happy note, our septic is still in good shape and we'll be seeing Modern again in 5-years. read more

We were in the process of selling a property and needed to have the septic inspected. We went with Modern Septic as according to them they had done the previous inspection in 2010. First they had to locate the tank as we had no idea where it was. Once located, they uncovered the lids, and that is where I feel the process should have ended. They will not certify the tanks because the tank tops are deformed and they cannot properly secure the lids. Instead, they did the pump ($495) and the inspection ($150) and the charge to locate ($50), which should have been a total $695, but for some reason only charged me $620. That said, I feel as if the process should have stopped if they were not going to certify the tank as now we are getting estimates from companies to replace the tank for over $4,000, and they all want to pump it too. I was on site at the time of the inspection, the guy who did the job sis not point out the problem until he was done. I wasted $620. I would have gladly paid the lid location fee and whatever charge for uncovering the lids, it is the $495 that is upsetting. read more

This company pumped and certified our septic prior to purchase in 2013. They followed up with notices as to when the septic should be pumped. Very efficient office customer service, records were correct and retrieved promptly. Service was on time, friendly techs, fast clean service leaving the ground as found. Will use again and would refer them to others. read more

Great company to work with. Have used them for our last 2 services, and they are consistently good. Their service men are clean and professional which is important when you are trusting someone on your property. They are family owned and have been around for quite awhile. They provide reminder cards so you can properly maintain your system. They also have a great rating on Angie's List. FYI. read more

Great septic service company, the people are all friendly and they know their business.

Did a good job pumping the tank but left a big hole in the ground where the lid to the tank goes. Lid broke when they removed it. Understandable. They wanted me to buy a new one and then charge me to finish the job. Doesn't seem right. read more

Our previous septic company went out of business and we couldn't believe how difficult it was to find a new company. Our neighbor has used Modern Septic for several years so we gave them a try. They were great. They were flexible when we had to reschedule. Chuck came and did the pumping quickly. He suggested when we should schedule it again and left us in good shape. Their pricing seems appropriate. We intend to call them back in 3 years. read more

Courteous and professional service. Called them to get my septic pumped and they were able to fit me in the next day. They showed up on time and delivered the services as promised. We will use them again. read more

We had a great experience with Modern Septic. They were very responsive when we needed our appointment. Chuck came, did an inspection and pumped our tanks. He assessed the size and condition of the tanks as well as gave us an estimate that we would not need to have someone out for another 5 years. Chuck was quick, clean and courteous. We could not be happier. read more
