I have tried a number of nail salons in the Corvallis area and Modern Nails is by far my favorite. They give the best pedicure out there and their staff is super friendly. Julie is my go to person. I have super thin nails and she was able to give me advice on how to make them stronger. My nails always look perfect after I see her. They are also really easy to schedule with although I recommend making an appointment especially if you want to see someone specific. Went in without checking the price so that's my fault, acrylics ended up being $42 without the tip and that's pretty pricey. A couple of my nails aren't the same length, and she painted my nails the wrong color. I had picked out a #5 color and she couldn't get it open. She pretended to have another nail tech open it for her and then grabbed another color and painted my nails. It wasn't too different so I barely noticed until she had already started. Terrible scheduling! They had me sit and wait for 30 min between pedi and mani. My daughter and I had appointments for pedi and mani as soon as the salon opened. They had several walk ins. The lady that did my pedi had me sit in a mani spot (not next to my daughter) and wait/watch for almost 30 mins while she did the nails of a walk in customer. My daughter was done before she even started my nails. Then after I had my sandals on she thought she should do a top coat on my toes which ruined the polish. A waste of money! read more

I have been here several times and am usually really pleased at the quality. Today however, I walked in and while they were able to get me in for a quick toe polish and a shellac, the guy seemed irritated by me. I showed him the exact picture of a small detail I wanted on my 2 ring fingers and he got all huffy when I mentioned the color he was using wasn't the same in the picture. I literally had a picture, same color and everything of how I wanted my nails to look. Now that I am home and looking at them, the guy barely filed/shaped my nails. There are literally gaps between my nail and skin he missed on several fingers and the color doesn't even go to my cuticles. While I will go back, I wont have him do it again. Oh, and I'm sorry my presence irritated you, maybe you were just having a bad day. read more

Modern Nails has terrible customer service, do not trust them if you have an important event to be ready for!! We were a small group of bridesmaids with appointment slots planned for. This was on a Saturday morning. We came in a minute before our time slot, but they had let in two people ahead of us. We waited for half an hour, which was okay, things happen.. Although time was ticking on and the wedding was a few hours away!! Then the head guy came to tell us we were only listed for 3 people, not 4, and he was angry and rude and confrontational. I don't know how that happened because we were very clear about how many of us there were when we made the appointment, not to mention he could have said something before we waited half an hour, he knew that we had a wedding and he wasn't busy. In the end, he rudely told us they would not help 4, and we went elsewhere. Luckily, we made it on time- barely! Do not go if you have an important event. The customer service was the worst I've ever seen. I never take the time to write a review, nor do I ever say someone should be fired but I'm making an exception here. Awful experience. read more

Avoid Ann at all costs! She bad mouths other women in the salon, claiming whatever woman did your acrylics did a lousy job. She also tore my actual nail peeling the acrylics off. She refused to soak in acetone both times I ended up with her and needed one (or the full set the last time) removed and replaced. I haven't experienced childbirth yet but my bet is getting your acrylics ripped off ranks pretty close on the pain scale. She also answered her personal phone (calls and texts) during my appointments. She had to set my hands down several times to take care of whatever business was more important. Both times I got my acrylics filled the tech didn't trim my cuticles so I had to go back after 2 weeks instead of 3. Plus! At $18, their acrylic fills are the most expensive in town for marginal work that shows lines, bubbles and lifts after 4 days. read more

Best pedicure I've ever gotten. I've had them in LA, NYC, SLC, and Corvallis (world traveler, aren't I?) and this one from Modern Nails was the best. The ambiance and decor and all that are pretty standard, but the actual pedicure job was P E R F E C T. The cost is $25, $22 if you have a student ID. What put everything over the top was my eyebrow wax. For $12 Jane or Jen, I can't recall her name, transformed me. I've been begging waxers and threaders all over to please thin out my eyebrows, but none of them have been able to do what she did for me. Her husband did my pedicure, so if you can, ask for one of them. She does nails, too, so I can only assume she's just as good in that dept. They aren't the owners, but I think the guy who did my pedicure's brother owns it. Anyway, all around awesome, great, wonderful. Why can't all pedicures be like this? Oh, beware that the State of Oregon just passed a law that each patron has to bring in their own set of pedicure scrubbers (not the metal tools, but the pumice type thing and the file) so if you don't own it already, you have to purchase a set from them for $5. read more

I've been to modern nail several times and have had good experiences. This last time however, I got a mani-pedi. The pedicure was good, had to ask for them to put another coat on because after two coats you could still see through to my nail..not a big deal. But when I got my manicure the guy barely filed/shaped my nails and when he went to clean up my cuticles he literally cut skin off of my finger. My middle and ring finger are painfully infected. I'm sure the infection will subside but that IS NOT acceptable. I will not be going back here. read more

Terrible place!! I got a acrylics, they charge for length and shape. The prices are ridiculous for the quality. I also got a pedicure and they must have treated someone with fungus because my feet look terrible, and I've never gotten fungus or had any issues with my feet until coming here. Went to get my nails done and they asked that I wait, which is fine. After 45 minutes of waiting they asked me to leave. I used to go here all the time and they were constantly asking me to come back sometimes 2-3 times, which is fine I get that sometimes they are busy. But to sit there and wait 45 minutes only to be asked to leave, Not going back there again!!! Also, some of the newer technicians burn your hands with the nail files, beware! read more

My nail tech complained about her life the entire time, complained about working there, and cut my finger open and said that it was my fault for having a hang nail (that I didn't have). My nails did end up looking great though! I was just so uncomfortable the entire time because this woman obviously hated her job and I was making her work. I'm just going to continue going to the place I usually go because I know I won't get a guilt trip but its a bummer because they were the best nails I've had in a long time. read more

I have found my favorite spot in Corvallis! Since moving here and trying a few "shady" salons with questionable conditions I was thrilled to find this gem. By far, hands down the BEST pedicure. Ever. They do the whole hot stone and oil massage too. Not bad for $25. Although the actual pedicure service has always been a tad bit nicer than the mani process I still come back and enjoy my visits. (There was maybe one time where I got a little irked they suggested I make an appointment and come back and once I did there was still what I felt was too long of a wait to get started but it was a busy weekend day so...) Remember to bring back your little file/scrubber kit so you don't have to keep buying new ones like I do...Unless something drastic changes I have no reason to go elsewhere. I was very enthused about this place when Julie was doing my nails and then Long took over. He was rude at the get go but I tolerated his "artistic" temperament. I even brought four women for pedis one time and several times treated a friend. However even though I paid the 27 dollars for seniors and tipped another eight dollars each time he just never seemed satisfied. If I was out of town or couldn't come in for a while he was very rude.(said he didn't want to serve me.) He really is only interested in the college crowd. Good luck .....I have found another place. I've only had pedicures here, from several different employees - and every time they've looked great and lasted for weeks with no chipping. The folks here also give a very nice foot/calf massage to top it all off. Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, but it is spotless and employees/owners are always welcoming. I've been going to Modern Nails now for almost two years and I have never had a bad mani or pedi. My mani's don't chip and last about two weeks but it's because my nails grow out fast. My pedi's last about 6 weeks. I usually have Tea as my tech, but I have had several techs and they all are very good. I like how they help each other out if running late. I am always greeted with a friendly hello and haven't had to wait over about 5 minutes for my turn. I have recommended Modern Nails to friends and now they are regulars too! read more

well to start it off i did call in and make an appointment, and even showed up early for my appointment. i made it clear i had all day available so anytime would work.....anyway. so this is like my 4th time with this same guy, so you would think he would know im picky by now? i asked for a backfill. this means you re-do the white on the tips so that the french manicure looks fresh. well they had to converse in a language unknown to me, and it was determined they did not have time do do the backfill. i told them that was fine, i could just get them airbrushed so it looked like a fresh french manicure. i had 2 broken nails due to product failure, one cracked where the tip was glued on and the other one a huge chunk of acrylic came off. i shortened them so you could not tell, but i was missing an entire edge of my nail, it was very noticeable. so the nail that was missing all together they used a clear tip to replace the end and put pink product over the entire nail. this means i lost what was left of my french manicure. the one i was missing the entire side of, he just started sanding on it....now it is to a point. by the way, i wear my nails square. i in my little snotty voice asked if he was going to repair that nail, instead he just made it thicker instead of square again. when he was all done he rounded all of my nails off, put a coat of white on the pink nail, slapped some top coat on them....which is still sticky and got up from the table...he was done? i paid my 25.00 and left in a huff! anyone know of a good nail tech in corvallis or philomath, i will not be returning there! read more
