I've been wavering for weeks about writing this review, but I feel like it needs to be said. I booked an appointment with Chulo due to the convenient time. I have medium length hair and was looking for an inch taken off. He did a great job and actually taught me some things about my hair. The cut did not include a wash though and my left and right side were really uneven. My biggest issue is with where the topic of conversation landed. We started talking about pets and he started telling me about how he dominated his tiny dog by hitting it a few times. He also went into a story that involved him telling the adoption agency multiple times that he planned on killing the dog if they didn't take it back. Pretty awkward. read more

Got a haircut here recently. Told them I didn't want anything off the top and I want to keep the back and sides long. Said I only wanted a cleanup and I like my hair shaggy. They proceeded to cut off 6 months of hair growth in the back and cut the top and sides down way too much. They quickly said to me "I had to cut the back, it was too long". They were a nice hair cutter but ignored everything I told them when asking for a haircut. They also charged me 40 for the cut plus tip when it was only listed at 30 online. I got my hair done by Lauren with a very specific color in mind (chunky 2000s high lights), i was very clear about how if that was unachievable I had an easier second option. She seemed very confident in the chunky highlights, so we proceeded. She didn't do any chunks except for the money pieces I pulled out before the session, and turned my hair literally grey. I never said I wanted cool toned, and the photos were very warm toned that I showed her. I called her the next day asking if she could somehow fix my hair (I suggested a clarifying shampoo), and she sounded very insulted on the phone that I didn't like it, and didn't offer anyway to fix it. I called the salon a week later to tell them about my experience, and I left a voicemail with no call back. As someone in the cosmetology industry, I understood things don't always come out as the photos, but my hair was unrecognizable to what I wanted, and the way this was handled after I was unsatisfied was very wrong. I ended up having to get it fixed at a beauty school, and it looks 10x better. read more

I'd been to Kayla a few times to get haircuts in the past year and was always happy with the results. Both Kayla and Jill are very pleasant and chatty, and their salon is really fun. I also like that they own it, and I like the idea of supporting their small business. I was excited to get my hair colored for the first time ever and showed Kayla a photo of what I wanted. She was enthusiastic and confident, assuring me that we wouldn't even need to dye my base color or bleach/lighten all my hair, and we scheduled a time to get it done in the evening so I wouldn't have to miss work. When I showed up, she said we'd have to lighten some of my hair so that the colors would show up better. Sure, you're the expert, let's do it. After that was done, she applied the colors, and we went from there. Since it was an evening appointment, I couldn't really see the colors I wanted based on the photo I brought for inspiration. She said the light in the salon was flourescent and weird and that I'd be able to see the colors in the daylight. In my mirrors at home and in the daylight the next day, my hair looked blonde with orange streaks in the front. In the back, I couldn't see any mauve/purple at all. It just looked lighter. Disappointed, I called the next day to see if she'd be able to take a look and maybe take a second run at it. I was thrilled when they could fit me just two days later. When I arrived, she said that it looked like the colors didn't stick to my hair since some of it had been lightened immediately prior. Jill and Kayla consulted together on the colors they mixed up (different from the original colors Kayla put in), and Kayla painted what seemed like my entire head. I felt excited to finally be getting the look I'd been wanting, but when it was finished, my hair still looked blonde with a slightly gray tinge. I was in a hurry, but I did mention this to Kayla, who said "well it's because your hair is so light" - okay, but you lightened my hair two days before. You can barely see any colors, and it still looks nothing like the photo. A few hours later, after talking with multiple colleagues and showing them the photo of the style and colors that I wanted, everyone said I should call and ask for a refund, because it looked nothing like the photo, even after two attempts. I did call, and Kayla let me know that she was sorry I wasn't satisfied, but that their policy is that they don't do cash refunds. She pressed that she hadn't damaged my hair (true), and that she felt she did a good job. When I mentioned that it looked nothing like the photo we continuously consulted, she said that it was impossible to get that look without dying my base color darker. Now, this goes against what she told me originally when I made the appointment to have this procedure done. The only reason I proceeded to have this done is because I was assured that I wouldn't have to maintain a different color base hair. After going around in circles, with both of us trying desperately to remain pleasant and civil to each other, she finally offered to dye my base color darker and only charge me for the product that would be used, put darker colors in so they'd show up, OR issue a 20% refund. I resisted the urge to mention that I don't even have 20% of the color that I was expecting, and instead said that I didn't really have any interested in further damaging my hair by dying it for a THIRD time, but that I'd think about it. After sleeping on it, I called back the next morning and said I'd be willing to get the darker colors put in so I'd at least have something noticeable to show (seriously, you cannot even tell by looking at my hair that anything had been done to it other than it's lighter). Kayla was with a client and said she'd call me back later that day. I said that was fine, and mentioned I'd be at work (gave her my work number) until 5. No phone call that day, which was a Friday. I thought she might call on Monday, but again, nothing. I finally gave up and called the salon again on Tuesday afternoon, but Kayla had gone home for the day. Wednesday morning, I woke up to an email notifying me that my next appointment had been canceled. When I got to work, I found that Kayla had left me a voicemail overnight saying she had thought about it and would issue the entire refund. I guess overall I'm pleased with this outcome, but not the route taken to get there, which was five days of anxiously awaiting this resolution. I'm pleased they did the right thing ultimately, but it felt really unprofessional to drag this out. I guess I would say that Luminous is really great if you're happy with the job they do. I recently had my hair cut and colored by Lauren for the first time, and it was a great experience from start to finish! She did a consult a few days before my appointment which gave us the chance to talk about what I wanted to do and to get her ideas about the best way to do that. She was super friendly and fun to chat with, and she did an excellent job taking me from my box-dyed pandemic brown hair (that hadn't been cut in 18 months!) to a vibrant and fun red, with cute cut to match! I would highly recommend anyone to go see Lauren, you won't be disappointed! Plus, Luminous Salon is doing a really good job with COVID precautions, something that's super important. I usually do not write reviews but I do not want people to experience what I did! I called this salon and asked for a hair dye, I EMPHASIZED that I am invited to a wedding and I care for my hair dye. They booked an appointment without a consultation beforehand (they should have) and assured me for a hair dye. When I went there, I waited in-front of the door for 10 minutes in the rain until my stylist came and directed me in, LAUREN. I told her I want light highlights (this is EXACTLY what I had before in other salons like epic day spa and the results were very satisfying). She started looking at and touching my hair like it is garbage!!!! She said she only can do a dark highlight for me. I told her I am flexible with whatever the result is, just go ahead and we will see. She was so frustrated and kept deep breathing, throwing my hair and combing harshly while she was thinking! After 40 MINUTES, she said we can not communicate and I cannot do anything for you!! A girl named Paige also said I agree with Lauren instead of saying a single apology! This is not fair, this is disrespectful to someone's hair style and also time and it was a very sad experience... She lives life to the fullest and that attitude shines through with her great work. In all honesty, I don't even have any hair. Jill just buzzes me clean cause I'm a dude and it's easy. That being said, I see her clientele, which is very loyal and always looking good. You never see anyone leaving her salon looking all ratchet (I think that's what the kids are saying these days). This is a lovely salon. Everyone is warm and welcoming. I felt very comfortable walking in. One of the best things about Luminous Salon however, is the stylist, Paige Brault. She squeezed me into her very busy schedule, and then did what no one else has been able to do ... which was to help me get back to a more natural look. She enhanced what was already there, and helped the color get back to where I wanted it to be. And added just the right touch to make it lovely. I could not be more pleased. If I could give 10 stars for Paige, I would. But alas, only five are allowed. I've gone to a couple stylist there over the years. One I really loved is no longer there. I feel like the tempo has changed in the last few months. Things don't look as clean, and then the owner doesn't seem to care. She (the owner) did do my hair about 6 months ago and it was probably one of the worst haircuts and colors I've ever gotten. She walked away and forgot about me and that's why I assume my hair was breaking off. I tried to reach out to her to fix it. But I got no response I did try another hairstylist there who seems to do really great. My hair looks nice but the entire time I could hear them talking crap about me and other customers. My colorist went to the back of the salon and was gone for over 20 minutes. The whole time I could just hear them chatting. They need to find a way to drown out there chatter (or just stop talking crap) because in the lash room right next to their back room, you can hear everything they say. I feel like the space has become very negative. No one seems happy everyone looks stressed. I'm now going to the salon that the old owner opened this summer. The energy is so positive the Decour is beautiful. I feel like I'm waited on hand and foot. They really understand what my needs are. At RAW HAIR SOCIETY it's totally worth the price. I'm not just paying for my hair but I'm paying for the positive environment and everything else they're giving me. I have never been happier with my hair. My girl Lacey is amazing and she is so funny and upbeat! Now let's talk about lashes. I've gone to Caprice in the past and she is amazing. She is also hard to get in with if you want last minute appointments so I tried one of their new girls not only were they horrible, but the price was way more than listed. I felt cheated out on spending $300 on some eyelashes that ended up having to be removed because of all the clumping. They were heavy and I could feel lashes were glued to each other and my skin. I now go to Alexis at ADORE. She doesn't skimp! She's so sweet, and she helps me relax I love caprice but I just don't feel comfortable going into this place after all the bad experiences that I've had. Very disappointed. I took photos of the cut I wanted, and Kayla told me she liked to see photos, but then she proceeded to give me a haircut that looked NOTHING like the pics. I showed 5 pics, all very similar, no neck showing on any of the models (in terms of hair length). When I walked out, I had two inches of neck showing on the right side, one inch on left. I'm not exaggerating, the haircut was that lopsided, and considerably shorter than I had requested. I think the most frustrating thing was that almost as soon as Kayla began cutting, she turned my chair so that I couldn't watch what she was doing in the mirror. That meant that not only did I not see that she was cutting off considerably more than I wanted cut off, but I also didn't catch how lopsided it was. For the blowdry she actually turned my chair so that my back faced the mirror. Since I only got a quick glance in the mirror before I was ushered to the counter to pay, I didn't notice the lopsidedness until I was at home. I would hope that as a supposedly reputable salon, she would have fixed this if I had gone back, but when someone does this much of a hack job on my hair, they don't get a second chance. Since I really don't want it any shorter, I'm going to suffer through the lopsidedness until it grows out a bit, then find another salon. The new salon is beautiful, but I'm not kidding when I say maybe they need to install more lights. It was very disappointing and I won't go back. read more

Paige has done my hair twice now. The first time, it was around May of 2019 and I stumbled upon the salon desperate for a trim before a big interview the next day. Paige was kind enough to take me on the spot even though she was on her way out. I didn't do anything dramatic (I just wanted to look more put together for the interview as my layers had grown out). Fast forward two years. I got the job and got so busy I didn't have time to go back. I intended to schedule an appointment and then suddenly the pandemic shut everything down. So finally, in June of this year (2021), two years after originally seeing Paige, I got an appointment and we took off over 18 inches!!! I have NEVER had my hair so long and I had been wanting a haircut for the better part of a year and a half. Paige nailed the look and I felt soooo amazing after she cut and styled it. Kayla was my last hope for a good stylist in Corvallis. For being a student and away from home I needed another hair stylist in town. It's been 3 years of damage hair and horrible experiences. I had given up until I walked in yesterday at Luminous Salon! I explained to her my horrible experiences with other salons and was looking for an honest stylist. Kayla was great and took care of my hair making sure she wouldn't be another bad stylist I come across with. Turned my dark brown hair to a beautiful golden blonde without damaging it like others have before. Trimmed it so it was perfect without charging me anymore. I decided to try Luminous Salon because of the positive reviews I had read on here and I am so glad I did! I don't usually go to salons because I am a college student and single parent, so finances are not always optimal. That being said, it's not really surprising that I have had the same hair style for probably about 10 years now. I have always kept my hair long with layers and blonde highlights but I finally wanted to venture out and try something completely new. Well, maybe not that adventurous, but I did want to go dark. Usually, when I want to do something with my hair, I will look for the cheapest place or even a beauty school that may not have as much experience but does fit within my limited budget. This time, however, I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for (in terms of color) so I decided I should just stick with the experts. I had previously gone to a hair salon (not sure if it really counts as a salon) here in Corvallis but it was definitely low grade and just not really what I was looking for this time, so naturally I turned to Google. As I was reading through the reviews online I was looking for an establishment that not only produced great works but also gave awesome customer experiences. After all, if I'm going to be splurging on my hair I want the experience to be worth it as well as aesthetically pleasing (especially since I won't be doing much to it for a long while afterwards). Everything looked great, the pictures were extremely helpful in determining the quality of their work and everyone that went to this establishment seemed to have great experiences. And, from what other customers had to say about Luminous, it seemed that their stylists were just what I was looking for. So I made the call. I talked with Jill and she was able to get me in the very next day! My appointment was with Kayla and she is by far one of the best stylists I have ever gone to. She was incredibly knowledgeable, had great customer service and endless patience with me. She discussed all the possibilities with me, talked me out of going with black (thank goodness!) and ultimately helped me choose a color that was perfect and looked amazing with my skin tone. As if that wasn't enough, she also trimmed up my dead ends without charging me extra for the cut! Another great thing about this experience with Luminous is the final price was lower than I expected! My hair is fairly long so I was ready to pay extra for all over color and really I thought the final figure would be at least 100, if not more, but it was actually less! My hair looked and felt amazing afterwards and I absolutely love it. Good prices, great service and an amazing outcome make this one of the best hair experiences I've ever had. I would definitely recommend Luminous for anyone looking for a great stylist at a very reasonable price. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding the location. There is no free parking near the building, which is relatively small, so you have to park a few blocks away. They actually explain that on their website though so I was expecting it. It still took me a little bit to find it because I was expecting them to be within one of the larger buildings in that area but the salon is in a very small building that is pretty much set apart from everything else, and the trees in front kind of hide it. So I would recommend either checking out where they are located before your appointment or make sure to give yourself extra time to factor that in. read more

My hair was ruined here. Everything I told her not to do, she did. Everywhere I said I wanted to keep length, she completely cut off. My hair is different lengths on both sides now and I have to get it fixed elsewhere. I was so furious I just had to leave. You can't fix what you cut off. Had to switch stylists today and made an appt with Jill. I like to keep my hair trimmed every 3- 4 weeks. This time I had gone 9 weeks and was getting pretty shaggy. Jill was booked out several days which confirmed my decision to be patient and give her a try. Made an appt online (first time doing that) and was very easy. Jill was a great conversationalist, friendly and made me feel at ease. Jill went right to work after askIng me several questions and I got a great cut. As a guy I am pretty picky with who does my hair as my mom is a beautician with 40+ years experience but lives in another state now. I watched my mom give hundreds of haircuts growing up. Jill is very fast, her technique is excellent, and she knows what she is doing. I had not met Jill before this appt. I'd recommend her and will definitely be going back. read more

The price is $35 for a women's haircut, but totally worth it.
