I LOVE THIS SALON!!! The owners have always been kind and professional and the salon itself is spacious, bright, and clean. I called and spoke to Lyn, one of the owners, about 2 years ago and I needed a color correction. I had a hairdresser about 1 hour away who had done the absolute opposite of what I requested. I felt that she had wrecked my hair and I was extremely upset. I checked out the salon reviews in Corvallis and this one was the winner. I went to The "awful" Salon to get blond streaks in my brown hair, but the blond owner was so disrespectful. She said that she would not work on my hair because I have alopecia, and she said that my naturally frizzy hair did not look healthy enough to work with. I left the establishment and cried in the car. I will never go back to a place where one must have nearly perfect hair to be served. I walked in there to see about booking my daughter a haircut and the response I received was so snotty and frosty I would never go back again. I mean seriously, I felt totally judged by these yo-yos simply for asking about an appointment, as if I wasn't good enough to merit any time on their schedule. I used to live in Hollywood and I am totally used to this kind of treatment from snobby stylists on Rodeo Drive -- but I would never pay my hard-earned cash for their services. Even back then, when I was a total diva, I would turn around and leave. I don't care how good the services are (or aren't). Nothing is worth that kind of treatment. It's only hair, for crying out loud. Customer service still matters! The thing is, you don't expect this kind of service in Corvallis. We're a warm, family-friendly kind of town where people are friendly to each other -- not snobby and pretentious. It's not that kind of community. Tip for The Salon: If you want to pretend you know about fashion or style -- or that you're a character from The Devil Wears Prada -- move to New York where that kind of thing is appreciated. I guarantee you won't find a job there, because at least the snobs in the Manhattan salons have the talent to put behind the attitude. But you'd be in good company. read more

Wow Lynn (I think her name was) communicates hair needs in a very rude way. I've never walked out of a salon so quickly feeling so much shame. You can communicate your very expensive recommendations in a kind and respectful way. No, I do not want to pay $400 plus tip and whatever fancy shampoo you're trying to sell me after you rudely ripped every characteristic of my hair to shreds. I may have considered the recommendation if I was treated with kindness. No, I don't want to hear about all the ways my hair is bad and has damage from city water and wrong shampoo right when I sit in your chair. I've never been treated this way. This is shame based marketing tactics and it does not work. Taking my money to the Honeycomb Salon where they treat customers with respect. read more

With Kristy, I know it is going to "just right" and I value that. She is also very pleasant, so the experience is one I look forward to every month. DON'T GO HERE!!! BEWARE IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR... I was surprisingly pleased when The SALON could work me into their schedule at the last moment since I was leaving for my honeymoon, a week away. I was pleased at the accommodation and went straight there after work, even though the conversation on the phone was cut short after asking what I wanted completed. After arriving I was greeted in a hurry and eventually seated. I explained in depth to my colorist, Lynn (acclaimed colorist, manager and owner) exactly what I wanted, my light roots touched up with dark color and one, particular blonde streak I wanted covered. The color turned out great, other than feeling like I was forgotten about under the dryer and no extra care was taken when I told her my skin stains a lot. As Lynn washed my hair, apparently annoyed that she had to "wash me." She passed me off to Carrie my cutting stylist. As Carrie asked me how much I wanted cut off of my length, I specifically told her "I want the dead stuff/ends cut off" we both agreed that would be about 3-4 inches as she "showed me" with my WET hair in her fingers. I agreed to what she showed me when my hair was wet. As Carrie began to dry and finish drying my hair she started cutting, without confirming again now that my hair was dry how much I wanted cut off and that we were on the same page still, even after adding product. She made the first cut, extremely short and I was scared. Scared she cut my beautiful long hair to short without asking, scared she didn't ask enough questions, scared I'd made a mistake. By the time Carrie had finished, I was speechless. She knew it and could tell by the look on my face because she kept saying, "it's still long" like she was trying to convince herself or the look on face. Needless to say I was very upset when I left, not with the color it was fine but with how much and how horribly my hair was cut for my type of hair. I asked for layers, found none, my hair is fine and thin and cut jagged/uneven across (as you can see from the photos I posted) and two inches shorter than I had asked and what was discussed when my hair was wet. Nothing I had asked for. I was in shock. I was taken to the front desk to pay, a whisper was given to the checker by the "cutting artist", my colorist "checked her part" and I decided instead of crying in front of the whole salon I would use the restroom. After using the restroom and seeing personally how my beautiful long hair had been destroyed, I braved the checkout stand. The checkout lady assured me "your hair looks good" after clearly noticing I was upset and then proceeded to tell me I owed $167 dollars. I looked at her with wide eyes and said,"seriously?" She said yes, I said "wow" with silence following. She said, "credit or debit." After charging this obliteration of my beautiful hair I went to my car and cried. I've never cried before in my life about my hair not when it was pink or fried blonde or cut short by own will but I was sobbing. Half way home to Albany I decided to call the manger, owner, colorist spoken of previously, Lynn. I told her how upset I was and how I felt overcharged for how horrible I felt. That I had never felt this way before. I told her that my hair was 2 inches shorter than discussed when it was wet and she specified to me that she "got my hair off the floor and it was not more than 4 inches that was cut off." I asked if she was calling me a liar she stated no that she would be happy to give me a free hair cut in 6-8 weeks or my hair back to measure (as if I ever wanted to get my hair cut by this salon again.) I asked for a free color as the salon seemed to get that part right, she declined because "there was nothing wrong with the color." I was balling on the phone to her, asking her to make this right, even though she couldn't make my hair grow back, she again stated she couldn't give me anything but a free hair cut and of coarse I declined due to experience. In conclusion I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON for their lack of responsibility in communicating with a customer and failing to make the situation right. I give them zero stars. read more

I booked a haircut online having never been there. When I arrived for my appointment, I was warmly greeted. I was booked with Emma. I have been in search of a new stylist for months since the person I had been seeing for quite some time moved away. Emma listened and asked questions and I walked out of there with one of the best cuts I've ever had. I've found my new salon and stylist. I paid $160 for a perm that didn't take. I asked for a 50% refund and was told no. They kept telling me to come in to have it redone or so they could see that it hadn't taken, even though I had come in the next day and showed them. Also, they know I was just passing through and live out of town, 1.5 hours away, and am housebound caregiving for my father. Stay away from these people, they are very overpriced and pigheaded about refunds. On the plus side, Emma is VERY nice and seems to be a genius at braiding. My hair was botched badly. I saw Emma. It was a total loss. I asked The owner to fix it before I left the shop, and he agreed to "fix" it for an additional cost. The girl that cut it couldn't "fix" it before I had to work, and by "fix" it, I mean shave it off, and honestly I didn't want her touching my head again. It was beyond redemption since so much was taken off. As you can see from my pic, I asked for my bangs to rest at my brow, but they're far from there. The back she claims wasn't done before I got up and asked her to stop, but as you can see from the bald area alone, it was destroyed already. There wasn't much to do to fix it unless she magically grew my hair back out and started over. Since I couldn't go to work like that, I had to completely shave it off myself. I'm out the money, and they refused to give me even a partial refund, which I asked for only a partial since I took chair time. I thought that was a reasonable request. Very disappointing. read more

Kristi did an amazing job on my hair. When I went to work my coworkers didn't recognize me they all loved my new style. Kristi has magic hands and a fantastic technique that is unique. She makes your cut and style fun, she engages with you and gets your opinion and adds hers, too. She suggested a style, I hadn't thought of. I'm always happy after she cuts and styles my hair. It's a true birds nest but she smooths it out and brings life to my otherwise crazy hair. The Salon is very close to Market of Choice which is a perfect location. After you get your style you can get a coffee or a glass of wine, and relax upstairs. I'm so happy with Kristi and The Salon, I don't go anywhere else. Try her and The Salon you will be happy, too. Here is my experience: I called and told the receptionist I was an "older woman" and asked if they had someone who knew older woman's long hair?...that I wasn't interested in anything trendy. The person on the phone said "Yes! We do!" When I showed up on time for my appt, my hairstylist (Emma/Emily?) was a very young girl, at the most 25 yrs old. (I thought - "ok, well maybe she knows older women's hair!") One of the first thing I noticed about her was how distracted she was. While shampooing my hair, I told her I was brand new to town and so needed a new hairstylist, as well as learning my way around a new town. My first red flag was when she then asked me "If I've lived in Corvallis long?" (Hmmmm....... maybe she didn't hear me...or maybe she wasn't listening!) Once in the chair, she began cutting my hair. She asked about my majorly grown out bangs, and I told her I was growing them out and to only blend them in. Well...they got cut! (One of those moments of ' oh shit too late!) Then she said she was ready to blow dry. I thought hmmmm.....really? I didn't think she was done. I pulled my hands out from under the cape and pulled the hair down on each side of my neck to see if it was an even cut. OMG..... one side was at least an inch longer! So, with a confused look on her face, she went back to cutting. I checked it TWICE more until it was even. Oh dear me. Then she busted out that blow dryer, and proceeded to use her fingers to pull and twist my hair as she was blow drying. No brush, no comb. I was confused. Never have I had my hair blow dried this way. When it was dry, she said "ok there ya are, I'm so excited for you!" Hmmmm. I asked her 'why she didn't use a brush?' and she looked surprised and replied, and I quote: "oh we don't use brushes. We charge extra to use a brush". I was shocked. I've never been to a salon that doesn't use a brush to blow dry! I walked out of there with messy hair and a not the best cut. It's just that I REALLY value "LISTENING", especially when it comes to a hair salon, and clearly, this salon could do better with that. read more

I had my haircut here a little while back, the stylist was very nice and very knowledgeable. I have reasonably long hair, and consistently have difficulty with people cutting it too short. The hairdresser at The Salon however, did exactly what I wanted with my hair. The negatives that are leading me to give it a three-star were: First, it was very expensive. I had a very simple cut done simply to bring life to my hair, and I paid as if I had a professional style. Second, everyone there had a strong tendency toward gossip. I always appreciate when a stylist takes my hints that I would rather remain quiet. With this place remaining quiet was a near impossibility. Third, I had to wait for a very long time. The more you spend time in salons the more you get used to waiting, but I had to wait well in excess of the length of my appointment even though I was on time. read more

I have been going to Steve since moving from New York City six years ago, and let me say that Steve is as good or better than any big city salon! He listens, advises and then does his amazing work- color, cut, the whole nine yards. I am super fussy about my hair, and will trust no one else. I have been getting my hair cut here since I moved to the area about a year ago. In my last town I moved around from stylist to stylist because no one seemed to do a very good job, but thankfully at The Salon Emma ended up being the one to cut my hair the first time, and WHAT a difference. My hair looked fantastic! I am a 57 year old woman with fairly thick hair, and was thrilled when she put in the right amount of layers to give my hair body but still not have any frizz. Since I cut my own bangs she left them alone for me, at my request. She has cut my hair about five times since then and has really done a fantastic job every time. I even brought my daughter in last winter vacation and she did a beautiful cut on her, so if you're a 21 year-old she can work a miracle for you, too. Could not recommend her enough. read more

I had an appointment today with Steve to have a couple inches taken off of my damaged hair...and a new style. Steve did a great consult and listened closely to exactly what I wanted. I love the way it turned out! He's a friendly, interesting and knowledgeable guy...and wears the coolest shoes! I was scheduled to possibly get my hair lightened as well with Lyn ( sp?) but she was very honest with me, which is what I was looking for, and let me know that further lightening could damage my hair so we agreed to give a it some time and then come back for the color at a later date. Having already had my hair damaged at another place in town, I was very appreciative of her assessment. Lyn is super nice, knowledgeable and very warm and friendly! I schedules the color service and asked if I can choose the color from the color sampler. Instead bring the color sample book, the stylist only showed me a 10 color small sample, and ask if I want something darker than the sample. Before she color my hair, I asked again to see the result color to make sure that's what I want, but she refused. She said, "It would be the exactly color you want". But the point is, I don't even have a chance to tell you the color I want! Turns out the color is NOT what I want. I made the complaint, but the stylist seems didn't care, kept saying "the color looks great on you". Don't Waste Money & Time HERE!!! read more
