Ask the Community - Modern Eyez

Are eye glasses made at the Modern Eyez facility or are the prescriptions sent to another state? How long did it take to have a complex prescription made into glasses?

Don't know where they are made. Do any local places make lenses? I kind of doubt it. Anyway we just had a complicated sunglasses prescription made for a person with very low vision. Six days, great service, very pleased with the glasses.

Davis was able to solve the problem, he had an eyelash that was stuck in his eyeball.

So this was my first time here and kind of feel after leaving like I visited a used car dealership…read more Don't get me wrong the staff seem to be very friendly and try to address your needs. You may be put in the waiting room for about 20 minutes but that is not to bad of a wait. Why is say used car dealership is what happens at the end. They get your prescription then try to get you to purchase glasses from them. Then they charge you $200 for a contact exam, that is a lot of money when you really get nothing out of it. You get temporary contacts then they look and measure and say oh yeah they fit, I will order you boxes. I asked how much are your boxes, $80 each. Wow. I can go to Sams or Costco for half the price. Then they say yeah come back again, I would assume they will charge for that visit too. Beware of the technique.

Dodged a very pricey bullet here. My experience with the receptionist and the other person who…read morelooked up insurance was excellent, but I couldn't believe all of the additional charges I would have to pay vs my old eye Dr. I only called here because my insurance changed and they were on the list. I would literally pay 200 less for my simple needs if I just went to my old Dr. and even payed out of pocket, skipping my insurance entirely. It was disconcerting to hear so many warnings, disclaimers and "fine print" from an eye Dr. I just wanted a simple frame and contact prescription renewed and have no eye problems. They wanted my medical insurance info up front in case they found a problem and warned there would be additional charges they would have to bill my medical insurance for if they found anything. That made me feel uneasy. Never had to do that before, and what did that mean exactly? In addition, seems like they have a state of the art retinal scanner that I'd have to pay out of pocket for that was another 40.00 or so. It's not necessary to get because dilation is covered by insurance on most exams. Dilation is still gold standard for eye exams. It allows the doctor to see the far edges of your retina in 3 d vs 2 d. This is allows for spotting issues like retinal tears, tumors, or early signs of diabetes and high blood pressure. Anyhow, they also have their own tier system on how they book you, and they charge you a 150 to 250+ for a simple contact lens scrip and fitting, and mentioned other possible fees. The straw for me was the automatic 42.00 "booking fee" on top of a copay, 160 for contacts exam, another 49 for scan, possible other charges before even getting glasses/contacts I'm sorry, what? Obviously their priority is profit..and while that may be normal as a business, this is excessive and insulting. While doctors cannot legally manufacture a fake diagnosis (as falsifying records to bill insurance is a severe criminal offense), aggressive practices can exploit gray areas by up-billing for minor, harmless findings like standard eye strain or slight dryness, itchyness from environmental allergy, etc. I'm not saying the care is bad, I'm sure they are highly qualified but you had better get a quote in writing before receiving care to avoid surprises. Check your insurance carefully. I'd estimate an out of pocket cost for the appointment, glasses and contacts.. assuming they will let you choose pretty basic would be 650 to 1000 when all is said and done. I did some research and found that vision insurance companies have drastically cut payouts. Routine vision plans (like VSP or EyeMed) often pay doctors incredibly low rates for an exam. Conversely, medical insurance payouts have generally kept closer pace with inflation. I don't know if that's what's happening overall, but it's concerning that it's just something else to be aware of in the healthcare battles we increasingly face.

A witnessed how some customers had really crappy attitudes and we're always on their phone.... So if that's the kind of energy they put out it's no wonder they don't get waited on hand and foot. For me, my experience was absolutely amazing.... I had gotten into a horrible accident and lost part of my eyesight and I also have brain damage because my memory is severely affected. There was a nice indigenous woman who saw my glasses all up in white gorilla tape. And my head wound was still evident, I came in to get new glasses because my prescription was two years old.... I didn't expect my glasses to be fixed, but she took a look at them, politely asked to see them and said she would be right back. Even after the warranty was a year past she gave me new frames..... that was absolutely compassionate and kind. I have always gone there and after this, there's no way I would go any place else because the humanity they showed..... was beautiful and I am so grateful. So I can walk around with normal glasses instead of looking like a mashed up mummy lol. Thank you, Stanton optical and a very special shout out thank you to the young indigenous individual who had to help someone who really needed it.
