When my longtime optometrist retired, a friend suggested I give Viking Vision a try. Looking back, my only question is: what took me so long? Over the years, I've learned a few things about Dr. Dennis Keyhoe. First, call him Dennis. Second, he's a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan. Third, and most importantly, the team he has built at Viking Vision feels more like family than a medical office. From the moment you walk in, you're treated with professionalism, respect, and genuine friendliness. The entire staff does an excellent job of making patients feel welcome and comfortable. They're knowledgeable, efficient, and clearly enjoy what they do. Dennis is also great at connecting with people. If you follow Viking Vision on Facebook, you've probably seen his personality shine through. As engaging as he is online, he's even better in person. He has a knack for making an eye appointment feel less like a chore and more like catching up with an old friend. You don't need to be a Vikings fan to appreciate Viking Vision. Dr. made me feel very uncomfortable by placing me in a exam room to fit my glasses the last time - then after shutting the door began asking me questions about his SEO and why I didn't want to play his football game with the rest of his patients I would have probably not updated this review- had it not been for an eye doctor up here in Rhode Island telling me that all of the extras that I paid for on my lenses weren't even on the lenses!! Threatened me with a late fee for being late, then showed up late himself. Asked me how I like Albuquerque, then responded it's ok if you like dirt. Seriously, go back to South Dakota if you don't like it here. Oh, and the exam? Had his unqualified nepo kid who didn't think to ask me to remove my contacts and couldn't figure out why he couldn't get a reading on the glaucoma reader. Then, when he took over for the examination, he yelled at me for not responding as fast as we he wished. Then, he refused to fill my prescription, but still billed my insurance. I really liked Dr. Kehoe in 2017 when I first went to him. I realize Covid could be making be making people crazy, however, this February, I went to him for an eye appointment. My appointment was at 9a on a Saturday morning. Neither he, or his staff were there at 9a. The did however park their cars at 9a. Once in his exam room, he bitingly said to me my eyes were red due to cheap contacts #1. I hadn't worn contacts for 3 days because of allergies. #2. He assumed I had been wearing cheap contacts because I bought my CooperVision lens that he prescribed through my Ameriplan/Coast to Coast for half the price. Then he yelled at me for the delay in coming in. Then he said that I had said I had last been seen in his office in 2015. I told him, that is what his staff had told me and that I really couldn't remember when I was last in. He informed me I was last seen in his office in 2017. I apologized for the confusion telling him, my son died in 2018 and the PTSD from his death, I had lost much in the way of memory. THEN he berated me for not playing his football game at all in the last 3 years for free glasses. Again... dead son. I was told if my contact script needed tweeking they offered it at no charge... when I made the appointment all was fine. I walked in and immediately was informed I wasn't going to be retested... never assumed I would be. I had received an email AND a test message exactly one hour before my appointment. A service I thought was really nice - even though I didn't receive that reminder for the first visit. However, I was kept waiting 18 minutes after my appointment time, at which time I left because if you want me there on time, (and I was, having come in 10 minutes early), so as not to delay your other appointments, then please give me the same respect. I was in for the "Tweeking" because quite possibly it's my allergies and cataracts I am not seeing street signs. This is the first time I have ever written a YELP or Google Review. But I feel like it's my moral obligation to let people know about this business. Our old optometrist, along with several others, left Vision Works due to Vision Works being bought out by VSP in November of 2020. I really needed a new prescription after teaching online since April of 2020. No appointments were possible at Vision Works or anywhere for that matter. Believe me, I tried. Finally, on March 18th, 2021, I went to Dennis Kehoe's office for both the glasses and contact lens exam. I was astounded at their prices, but at this point I was desperate for an updated prescription. Mr. Kehoe and his wife were charming and the entire staff was very friendly. I paid $177.97 for out-of-pocket expenses and that didn't even include ordering glasses or contact lens. They told me that the dilation was required (I found out, it's not) and if I didn't want the dilation (because it would require me to wait for an hour or more, for the pupils to dilate and then for me to be safe enough to drive etc.) the other option was "Fundus Photos" which was a $39.00 charge (included in the aforementioned amount). He wouldn't do the exam without it and I trusted it was for my benefit, but most importantly I needed a prescription. They were also disappointed that I didn't get my glasses made from them. Their prices were insane! I did order my contacts from them instead and my insurance covered those. I used my contacts until I could order the glasses. On May 8th, 2021 I went to another place, picked a frame, and ordered glasses as per their prescription. On May 15th, 2021 I received the pair of glasses and they didn't feel right. They made me dizzy. I called them and Mrs. Kehoe was very rude to me and said if they didn't make them, they couldn't do anything about them and hung up. Now I had to pay for another exam. Luckily the place where I went to get my glasses ordered said they would do the exam for half price and re-make the glasses for free if there was a discrepancy. I couldn't believe it. This optometrist was surprised at the minimal information available for my glasses' prescription given I have astigmatism. Last week I went to speak to him in person, but he was leaving his office. In passing, I had explained that I wished to speak to him, that I wasn't even asking for money back, but that the prescription was wrong and it has cost me a lot of time and money. He told me to email him the prescriptions for comparison. It was too time consuming for me to do that and since I wasn't looking for money back but just an acknowledgment of what had happened, I thought I would try today. Today, June 15, 2021, I went in to speak to Dennis Kehoe. His wife told me he was busy and that I should have emailed him like he had asked. I explained why I was unable to email and that I just want to be treated like a human being and I had no intention of collecting a refund or wanting to leave a YELP or Google review, but that instead I just wanted to express what had happened. I had with me my other prescription which shows that theirs was incorrect. They told me I would have to make an appointment. So, I did that. Fifteen minutes later, I received a phone call from an enraged Dennis Kehoe that the appointment would cost me $45.00 for a comparison exam and he just went off the handle about why I didn't come sooner. I tried my best to explain to him that I wasn't trying to get my money back, nor was I intended to write a YELP review but just needed to talk to him about an oversight on his part. Mistakes happen and it's okay. But he wouldn't have it. He started yelling at me and I had no choice but to hang up on him. This behavior showed me that he may not be an asshole, but this is not the first time this has happened and they are tired of trying to fix their mistakes. read more

First of all, I live in Albuquerque, NM. I have no idea why Yelp thinks I'm in San Francisco, and I don't know how to change the mistake. My experience was not at all good. I wouldn't return to this office if I were going blind, and he was the only OD around. The most unprofessional doctor and office I've ever experienced. I find it very interesting that when a bad review is written ANYWHERE online, about this doctor and/or office, the patient-reviewer is always wrong or mistaken or not telling the truth. Well, here is my truth: When the OD and his wife knew that I was very unhappy with my care (I could not use my glasses, because the Rx was very wrong) and that I was going to file a complaint with the state of NM Boards and Commissions Division, the wife told me how her mother died right after getting her COVID immunizations (which is why she and the doctor were not vaccinated); how both she and the doctor had had COVID -- TWICE. Yeah. Oh, and about a part of her pre-nuptial agreement. They even sent me fudge from the candy shop in Red River. Wow, I was almost FAMILY. LOL Please realize that this OD does not care about his patients at all. All he cares about are good reviews. He started hounding me -- texts, emails -- for a good review when I was barely out of my chair and days before I received my glasses. He texted me on a Friday night! When I got my glasses and texted him that I had a big problem with my glasses -- he suddenly stopped contacting me. Hardly a surprise. From then on, I was relegated to talking to his wife, who, the last I checked, is not an OD. In response to Dr. Kehoe's post: Not at all true. I picked up my glasses, outside the office at the front door (and his wife gave the glasses to me), because I wouldn't go back into a place where no one wore masks. I said that I could see so much better **on my first visit** (and only) in-office visit. My first and only exam. While I was still in the chair. However, when I picked up my glasses (some days later) and I got home and put on the glasses, I was dizzy. I was told that there would be an adjustment period. Five days later, I was still dizzy -- and it continued to get worse. And I can actually prove almost everything I posted because I've kept all of the emails and texts on my phone. read more

The office hours are convenient and worked with my busy schedule. I make the drive from Los Lunas and it's well worth the commute. My husband went to this eye doctor by himself. He usually gets a good eye exam. The thing that upsets me is the hard sell of overpriced frames they have. How in the hell can you justify $1,000 for one pair of flimsy eyeglass frames with clip on sunglasses?? This is ridiculous in this day and age, where people have been out of work and are struggling to make ends meet. The previous time he was at this office, and I was with him, they did the same thing. I CAN SEE!! I was hesitant about trying monovision contacts after reading that it can take several weeks to adjust to them. Well, that is not true if you have a fantastic optometrist. I walked out of Dr. Kehoe's office seeing perfectly in mine. I have been a long time patient of Dr. Kehoe. He always takes his time to make sure your prescription is perfect, answers all of your questions, and addresses all of your optical concerns. You never feel like he is in a rush - while you are with him, he treats you as though you are his most important patient. His staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. I am reviewing now because I am still being emailed, texted and called several times regarding this optometrist moving from office to office. I'd like to preface this statement by saying this post isn't about Dr. K. He's a good doc, likes the wrong NFL team, but then again nobody's perfect. That being said, his office manager should learn when you are in a customer driven business and decide to refuse service because of a difference of opinions, there are consequences. Like customers leaving negative reviews. I found out I was no longer a patient because my last pair of glasses took weeks to receive. I would call frequently to inquire what the hold up was, Laurel (office mgr) said it was my insurance (Medicaid). But when I called HSD I was told insurance does not delay or manufacture eyeglasses and that it was likely the vendor chosen by the office, in this case Viking Vision. When my glasses were finally ready to pick up I voiced my opinion to Laurel who again blamed my insurance. Fine, whatever I got my glasses. See you in a couple of years. Duces . Fast forward a couple of yrs, I get an email saying it's time for an eye exam. So I make an appointment online, get a text confirmation and email reminder. But then Laurel calls and says I'm no longer a patient of Dr. Kehoe because of my last visit. I'd like to add, in no way was I disrespectful or rude to the staff. I did however, suggest Laurel have a crappy day. Which in hindsight was rude, but it was due to her unprofessional attitude blaming Medicaid and by association Medicaid patients that pushed me over the line. A friend recommended I try Dr. Kehoe's office, and I'm glad I did. I have been able to get appointments in a timely manner, my exams are thorough with enough time for me to ask questions, and the front desk does a great job. After I had been coming for a while, Dr. Kehoe started encouraging me to enter his Vikings football contest to win a free exam, glasses, AND contact lens. I wasn't interested, as I never win anything, but after he kept after me, I entered. I WON on my second try! Not only did I get everything stated, but my glasses are the most comfortable I've ever worn. Went to this guy years ago before he was replaced at eyeglass world, now he has spam called and emailed me for months despite me unsubscribing from his emails. He calls me up "Hi it's your eye doctor!" Dude that was one visit 12 years ago... get a life. Didn't like him then and don't like him now. I recently saw Dr Kehoe and had a terrific experience. My glasses are perfect. My wife went to Costco and did much better price wise, and her glasses look great. Unfortunately, she can't see with them! I took them back to the optometrist and was told that they were made to the specifications of the prescription. After considering her options, she is going to return the glasses to Costco, and start over again with Dr Kehoe. read more

Would've given a zero if I could. My lenses were not correct. Scheduled a follow up. Had to reschedule because my child got sick at school. Went to rescheduled appt. Waited 35 minutes after checking in at the front desk and was never called back or checked up on so I left. Got a call two minutes later from the doctor. Saying if I would've shown up to my first appt (rescheduled 7 hours prior) he would've had the time then. Making it seem like my fault. Just like he did when I said my lenses were off. He speaks very condescending on top of it. Told him I couldn't go back because I was already driving home. Continued to make it seem like I was a no show and never apologized. He said bye and hung up. I called him back and he answered saying, "Hi Christen. I thought our conversation was over. I said bye. I didn't hang up." That is hanging up because there was no resolution. I told him I wanted a refund at this point because I don't feel comfortable being back in his chair. He said they don't give refunds. That my only option was to go back. He told me I'm making up excuses to get a refund. I paid $316 for my appt and lenses. I was charged $50 for my appointment when it should've been covered by my insurance. My eye appointment lasted all of five minutes. My fiance called and they refused to speak to him and hung up on him as well. The BBB and insurance company have made a claim against him. Do not see this fraud! Save yourself the agony. read more

Dr. Keyhoe moved from eyeglass world and we weren't able to find him for years. We finally did, and they have been even better! Him and his wife run the place with such great customer service and care. He spends so much time with you so you feel confident in your vision. Before I even scheduled appointments for myself and my children I informed them that they would need to get prior medical records for one of my children. They said it would get done at our appt. Appt. day comes along, I fill out the form, including paperwork that asks who they saw before and buy two very expensive pairs of glasses. I was informed one of my son's needed glasses. He had not needed glasses in the past. I didn't ever see the actual prescription, my fault, I trusted the Dr. Next appt. for another son, I ask about the medical record. It had not been sent out, this is one month later. I am forgiving and they claim they will send it. I show up for my appt. almost a whole month later and they still did not have a medical record. They claimed the Dr. they sent it to had not returned it. I called the prior Dr. to see if any records request were made. None were. He blatantly lied about the request. This is going on nearly three months of no record! I took my son to his prior Dr. for a second opinion and for a new comparison that is required yearly because Dr. Kehoe is obviously not interested in eye health as much as he is interested in selling glasses. I was informed he did not need glasses, his vision was 20/20. The rest is private and I will not say medical info. I called Dr. Kehoe's office and Laurel claimed he would call me back. He has not returned my call. We bought an unnecessary pair of glasses from him. His staff is very friendly, but it does not make up for their disregard for their patients. Dr. Kehoe had the nerve to tell me I care about it more than he does. Of course I care more than him, it is concerning my son's eye health. Best fit on contact lenses. One contact lens for astigmatism and a second one was bifocal. I've never been able to see this good.
