Cute hole in the wall eye glass shop. They have been around for over 35 years! The shop looks like it belongs in a fairy tale storybook. He has helped celebrities find the perfect pair and even SLC locals. I don't think my insurance covers here but I might have to splurge with my HSA!

John Cottam's passion for glasses alone deserves as many stars as I can give him. I've never been an eyeglasses kind of guy--neither out of necessity nor fashion--but John's shop, The Spectacle, still wowed me. This little store in Trolley Square sits quietly on the second floor and begs your entrance with a quaint corner door. There are several display cases featuring some high-end designer eyewear; lots of american and italian names running around. That alone makes for a fun "if-money-were-no-object" shopping experience, but that's just the beginning. Mr. Cottam used to have a shop on the Vegas strip, and is sometimes referred to as "optician to the stars." He's designed custom eyeglasses for Ann Margaret, Andy Williams, Sammy Davis Jr, and the iconic Elvis glasses. He also displays a tribute to the glasses he designed for Blade Runner. My favorite part of the store was actually a small case in the corner full of antique eyeglasses. Each one was labeled with its approximate date of creation and had a little info about its original design or use. Part museum, part storybook, part retail eyeglass shop. Definitely worth seeing if you're in Trolley Square.

This is such a charming optical shop inside Trolley Square. It's on the 2nd floor close to The Old Spaghetti Factory. There is quite a variety of different styles leaning towards round shaped frames. Owner has made a couple of eye glass cases made out of wine corks which I thought was very creative. On display is the original "eye ware props" for the movie "Blade Runner" designed, and made by the owner. Stop in a take a look at the many unique designs.

I agree with Jeffrey S.'s review. WOW---I'm from California, but couldn't find an eyewear shop like this in California--and I've been searching for years. I bought a pair of glasses here and John was fantastic. Hey--did you know that he also is into SteamPunk? He's designed some SteamPunk objects and they were fantastic. The guy is very creative! I *definitely* recommend this place. Great shop; great guy; great eyewear pieces!

A quick call to John and within seconds of arriving at his store, he magically repaired my glasses to better than new status.

Reading all these negative reviews, it reminded me about the golden rule... you the way you be…read moretreated. A witnessed how some customers had really crappy attitudes and we're always on their phone.... So if that's the kind of energy they put out it's no wonder they don't get waited on hand and foot. For me, my experience was absolutely amazing.... I had gotten into a horrible accident and lost part of my eyesight and I also have brain damage because my memory is severely affected. There was a nice indigenous woman who saw my glasses all up in white gorilla tape. And my head wound was still evident, I came in to get new glasses because my prescription was two years old.... I didn't expect my glasses to be fixed, but she took a look at them, politely asked to see them and said she would be right back. Even after the warranty was a year past she gave me new frames..... that was absolutely compassionate and kind. I have always gone there and after this, there's no way I would go any place else because the humanity they showed..... was beautiful and I am so grateful. So I can walk around with normal glasses instead of looking like a mashed up mummy lol. Thank you, Stanton optical and a very special shout out thank you to the young indigenous individual who had to help someone who really needed it.

Terrible experience they dont place their orders they take 2 weeks to tell you that your glasses…read morewold be ready in another two weeks I called after a month and they told me the order was just placed so I needed to wait another two weeks
