This review has been reposted because the owner responded with several personal attacks to try and make me remove it, and I did not feel obligated to have that kind of slander posted on my public online presence. The treatment I received from Dr. Chan was highly concerning and I am writing this review in hopes that others may avoid the same happening to them. I wanted a contacts/ glasses prescription. As my eyes have stayed the same since I was 12, I was sure this was going to be fairly routine. It was- Dr. Chan said that the prescription she was going to give me was nearly IDENTICAL to the one I was currently wearing, with one exception- it was going to be much stronger to account for a astigmatism in my eye. Dr. Chan told me that I could try this new prescription out, but she was SURE that it was going to be too strong, and that I would probably have to go back to my original prescription. I am incredibly sensitive and get migraines very easily. At my previous eye doctor, they had put me in the exact same prescription the Dr. Chan had recommended, with something to account for the astigmatism. I tried those out for several weeks, and they made me horribly sick. I made a follow up appointment with Dr. Chan to discuss these concerns. I was open to her suggestions, but my previous experiences, coupled with Dr. Chan's own opinion that the new prescription probably wouldn't work, left me very uncomfortable with Chans' prescription. I asked Dr. Chan if she could just give me the prescription without the astigmatism, and I have never seen a medical professional become so utterly nasty with a patient for trying to be an active participant in their own healthcare. She insisted that she knew better than any other doctor that I had been to, and that she was always right. She became incredibly defensive, even when telling her that I had already tried a prescription like that before, and it didn't work. She had me try on a pair of optometrist lenses with her prescription, and I immediately felt nauseous and dizzy. She wouldn't listen and kicked me out of her office. I called a couple of days later, feeling very concerned that I had paid 125 dollars and driven a total of four hours for both trips to have her completely disregard my own valid experiences. When I am paying for medical care, I expect to get treatment in which the doctor works with me to come up with a solution, not to have someone steamroll me. The real cherry on top of this whole ordeal was when Dr. Chan called me back and proceeded to scream at me for a total of five minutes. I had to turn down the volume on my phone three notches. She told me that she would not be willing to work with me on my prescription. When I explained to her how I felt trying the glasses,she told me that I was probably right- her prescription would not work. However, (and this is a direct quote) she "forces her patients to try out the prescription that she picks." When I told her I quite frankly didn't want to endure weeks of migraines so she could feel better about herself, she said that she had "an ethical obligation to put me in the prescription she chose." That may be, but she was the one who said that I would end up back in the original prescription. Her refusal to listen to me was a blatant ego trip for her to prove that she was right and I think that her attempts to write it off as 'ethics' is a sad corruption of valid medical values. Furthermore, isn't the basis of ethical medical care patient consent? Tell me, how is "forcing patients" into what you want, regardless of their consent, ethical in the slightest? She told me finally that if I didn't want to endure weeks of misery to satisfy her, she would fulfill my glasses, but not my contacts. For that, I would have to pay another 125 dollars. A minute ago, listening to my opinions on my medical care was 'unethical,' but now that you see an opportunity to make another 125 dollars, it is suddenly okay? The problem isn't the prescription as much as Dr. Chan's vindictive manner and blatant disregard for patient autonomy. read more

I've had contact lenses and glasses almost my whole life and Dr. Chan is the best optometrist in town. My whole family loves her. She is always friendly and seems to genuinely care. She also works very hard to make sure my contact lenses are perfect. My kids actually look forward to their eye exams! The staff is really friendly too and that makes all the difference. Dr. Chan is like the old fashioned family doctor that is accessible and feels like part of the family. read more

The staff and the doctor are very friendly and remember our family every year. My contact lenses are not easy to fit and I had to go back several times Dr. Chan made sure I found contact lenses that made me happy. My kids also really like Dr. Chan and my daughter loves her Hello Kitty glasses. I really like the technicians there -- they always have a smile on their face and are helpful. I had a wonderful experience with the staff and Dr. Chan. All my questions were answered and I came away with exactly what I needed. The office staff was friendly and helpful, which makes all the difference. I really felt like I got personalized, quality attention and felt like I was treated like an individual. Great family optometrist! I used to see her father when I was a kid and now I see Dr. Chan-- she is just like the "old school" family doctor that really cares about you as a person. She remembers our whole family every year and my kids love her. Also love my glasses-- have gotten lots of complements on them. And the technicians are very nice.
