Sad that I will no longer be going there as I liked the doctor and the location, but I frustrated by staff communication and billing. Diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year. Went for checkup and was told to come back 3 months later when my eyes stabilized. Received a call Monday telling me that my "yearly checkup" must have been used elsewhere as insurance would not pay. Reminded them I had been there earlier this year. I was told it would be out of pocket $55 if I wanted to keep appointment. They have a cancellation fine if not early enough. Went in today, and the $55 was now over $100. Frustrated. Brought up the cancellation fee ($50) and that I would be out money if I stayed or left. Finally saw the doctor and brought it up with her. She tells me they would have waived the cancellation fee - staff did not tell me that! Had that been said, I would have cancelled and returned in January once my insurance would pay for it again. I don't have money to throw away. read more

Incompetence is the tip of the iceberg. Three serious concerns I have with this business. First, the doctor is arrogant and uncaring. She has no empathy for anxious patients, preferring to keep her routine simple. She didn't even have the courtesy to say hello when she entered the exam room. She looked at her notes and totally avoided eye contact. Every time I was in the office (later you'll see why I had to keep coming back, and coming back, and coming back) she ignored me when I said hello to her. During the exam she was cold and rude. I have physical disabilities which were totally ignored during the examination. I was forced to sit in the exam chair without support for my disabled legs. This is because the doctor had to have the patient's leg support removed for HER convenience. Therefore, I had no choice except to scoot forward to get my feet on the ground. This put my neck in an awkward angle when the doctor used the phoroptor machine (the machine that is used to get your prescription by flipping different lenses in front of your eyes) was put in front of me. I'm surprised that the vision exam was at all accurate given these improper conditions. So, obviously, the second problem is that this business does not accommodate or respect individuals with physical disabilities. If you are disabled, avoid this business, as you will be treated disrespectfully and your needs will be ignored in favor of the doctor's convenience. Now as to the incompetence - where to start? The individual fitting me told me that a size of frames slightly larger than the size I typically wear would be "easier to adjust" so I purchased them and had lenses made because the style was the most flattering. These cost me $450, which to me is a significant amount of money. These glasses had to be done over three times because of mistakes. The first time they were crooked and couldn't be adjusted to be level. They were sent back to be remade. They came in without having had the edges polished - which I had ordered and paid for. They were sent back to be remade. They came in a third time - improperly polished on the edges (again). They were sent back again to be remade. They finally arrived properly polished and the individual fitting them began the excruciating process of adjusting them. Guess what! This slightly larger size of frame with lenses (costing $450) was impossible to adjust properly. If the nose pads were adjusted so they properly fit my nose width (and therefore didn't fall down constantly), the lenses sat up half way up my forehead, and I was looking out of the bottom quarter inch of the lenses! So, I have to have the earpieces tightened too tight (hurts behind the ears) and the nose bridge too loose (slips down all the time) in order to see out of the glasses. Bottom line: if you want to be treated as an annoyance by an egomaniacal, uncaring doctor and be given advice by improperly trained and poorly informed staff, try Accent on Vision - you won't be disappointed. read more

I was long overdue for an eye check up when I happened upon this business. I was able to schedule an appointment within days of my inquiry. The optometrist was efficient and thorough. Her assistant was wonderful. The facility was new and clean. The front desk woman was very polite and friendly. Even the woman who handles the ordering of the contacts was amazing. The only employee I'd complain about is the one who handles the glasses. I stood there browsing for quite some time before she acknowledged me. But she did apologize for ignoring me. However, her demeanor did affect my decision to not place an order for glasses. I instead purchased online using the prescription I was provided at my appointment. The process for getting new contacts was relatively simple. Fortunately, I was able to share my old prescription with them so they had a good jumping off point. At the first appointment, I was given one brand of contact to put in my left and another brand of contact to put in my right. Then instructed to wear for a week and then comeback for a free appointment to see which I liked better. I came back the next week. They got me in and out so fast. I received 4 boxes of contacts in the mail days later. Super efficient! read more

My husband and I retired to Albuquerque a few years ago, and I'd been putting off making an appointment for numerous reasons. One being, I had extremely negative experiences as a child when going for an eye exam. The Dr. wasn't very patient with young children, and being quite nearsighted, I always felt like I was flunking the exam. Through the years, I've had some wonderful, and not so wonderful, Dr's. Fast forward to my experience at Accent on Vision. I can't say enough nice things about Dr. Pulis and her staff. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a smile (behind a mask) and proceeded to have all the preliminary test done by one her technicians. I was immediately made to feel comfortable. The whole experience was nothing but pleasant, Dr. Pulis is very thorough in explaining her findings, and making sure to ask if I had any questions during the visit. She found something that needs extra attention and one of the gals at the front desk called to make an appointment for me. It's obvious that she enjoys her job, as she was just as nice to the person on the other end of the line as she was to me. The Covid precautions were appreciated and the $39 Optomap retinal scan is something that all my previous Dr's have required, so that's a non-issue for me. This office is listed as a VSP provider. If you have this insurance and just want a regular annual eye exam DO NOT USE THIS OFFICE! THEY WILL TRY TO NOT HAVE YOU USE YOUR INSURANCE AND PAY CONSIDERABLE OUT-OF-POCKET EXAM FEES. I would give 0 stars is it was possible. I had to schedule this appointment over a month in advance, so the office had plenty of time to call me and explain how things would work. I was O.K. with the extra cost for the eye scan if it was not covered by insurance. I brought in all of the glasses that I am currently using as I was instructed to do in the appointment confirmation. When I got there i was told that I was getting a Diabetic eye exam because I take Metformin (I am not Diabetic, Metformin keeps that in check very well!) I was told that it would be an extra $50 for an eyeglass prescription today, or I could schedule an eyeglass prescription appointment for another day and they would charge my VSP insurance. Of course I said that we would schedule the additional appointment so that they would charge my insurance. Receptionist asked for my medical insurance card and told me that they do not take my medical insurance. She asked me if I would still like the "diabetic" eye exam today, and that the cost would now be $150.00. I told her "Not a chance!" and I walked out the door. read more

On November the 7th, 2016, I was told that there was a $50.00 co-pay. I placed three twenties on the counter. I was then told that you pay as you leave, She then took the money off the counter. (?) I asked if I get my ten dollars back over there. She said "yes". After coming back out, I was told that there is a $50.00 co-pay. My Mom paid the bill. I then asked where's my $60.00. The lady that took my money denied ever taking it. Just flat out lied. The optometrist in the back are good. Shame I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been getting my contacts here for years and I've never had an issue until I decided on purchasing glasses and had to deal with the person fitting the frames. I don't usually write reviews but I'm incensed about this. The frames fitter will take you through a bunch of hoops (expensive options) before FINALLY showing you a secret stash of frames that are less costly and are covered under specific insurance carriers. So if you go for frames, ask them specifically for the collection reserved for your insurance, if you are covered. I spent about half an hour with her, all the while gently bemoaning the limited collection, asking if they had more or if they had a catalog I could choose from, but it wasn't until I hinted I would probably go elsewhere that she rolled out the extended collection. And just like that, my options changed from $700 out of pocket to $150. What a scam! She even tried shaming me into not choosing the less expensive ones by saying, "The ones with yellow tags are usually what people on government programs get so keep to the blues and reds." She didn't seem to care that others within earshot might've been the ones who'd have to choose the yellow tags. Even on the visit before, when I inquired about just getting lenses for frames I'd just purchased, she said it's highly likely the frames would be broken in the process, and if that happens, there'd be no recourse. The truth is there'd be nothing in it for her because she probably makes commission off the sale of frames, so that should've been a warning that she doesn't care at all about the needs of the customer if it doesn't serve the bottom line and that the ophthalmologist doesn't care that her front office sales tactics are steering people away. Last bit: When I came back to pick up my glasses, I had to wait while she was outside taking an "Important phone call." Ugh. I won't be going back. read more

Seriously - who writes reviews about doctors? This guy....starting now. Why? Because I hate doctors - I don't go to doctors, I would rather fumble around sick, limping on a bad knee while squinting at a piece of paper, rather than deal with modern medicine to treat these ails. I visited these folks once before to get them to fix my glasses - no I didn't buy them there, I was just driving by when a screw popped out. They didn't ask, they didn't hassle - they just fixed them for me kindly. Seemed a little weird to get treated so nicely in a doctor's office. But, these folks are a little different. Monday, I called to get an appointment, hoping to get new glasses sometime before Balloon Fiesta, and GOT IN THE NEXT DAY - What? Who does that? They pulled my insurance stuff with ease. They saw me 5 minutes late (Sigh), but they apologized profusely over and over again because someone had called out that day. So bizarre - never met a doctor that ran that close to on time. And, never met a doctor that apologizes for much of anything. I suppose I could write more, but...it's a doctor's office. Go see them before you can't see anything. read more

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Pulis for several years and find her competent and friendly. Her staff are all excellent. We first visited her in Santa Fe when we had some issues with another Doc there. We liked her so much that when she moved to Albuquerque we have continued to visit her despite the drive. If I could give 0 stars I definitely would! My insurance recently changed, forcing me to find a new optometrist. As I arrived, I was notified that each visit requires a $40 retinal scan not covered by insurance. The retinal scan is in place of the eye dilation (which is covered by insurance) because the staff and optometrist feel safe not having any patient contact due to covid. As a medical professional, I am required to have patient contact. How can an optometrist refuse to touch my eye to place drops??? What a shame that an eye specialist is too scared to get too close to a patient, that has no symptoms, wears a mask, and has a screening prior to going into the office. I considered paying the $40 until I was advised by the tech that an eye dilation gives more detail than a retinal scan. If something is seen on the retinal scan than an eye dilation could take place. What sense does this make??? I will take my business to a professional optometrist that actually gives a damn about patient care and eye health! read more

I recently moved to Albuquerque and needed to find a new eye doctor. Dr. Pulls with Accent on Vision was an approved provider so I gave her a try. My experience was very positive and my appointment was on time and very professional. My only complaint was they wouldn't invoice my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket and send it in for reimbursement. read more

Very disappointed with Dr Tachau and his Albuquerque office! NOT DEAF FRIENDLY! My son is deaf. We asked for an interpreter when we made my son's appointment and received some hesitation. Im aware that not everyone knows the laws. I am happy to educate, provide numbers, etc. When I received a confirmation text a few weeks before the appointment I asked about the interpreter and was told that Dr Tachau was not comfortable with having an interpreter in the room and that we should find a pediatric eye doctor. They were aware of my sons age when i made this appt. I asked the lady if it was my sons age or because he was deaf that they thought i should find another doctor. Her response was "the doctor is not comfortable with the interpreter in the room". We were not scheduled with Dr Tachau but with the other doctor in his office. So I asked, "if my son was the same age and was hearing, would you see him?" I received the same response, "the doctor is not comfortable with an interpreter in the room." We talked to Dr Tachau himself and he told us my son didn't need an interpreter for various reasons. He has never met my son! How would he know if he needed an interpreter or not? When we wouldn't give up on getting one he finally agreed and hung up on my husband. I called his Albuquerque office a week or so later to cancel the appointment, having decided my son didn't need a doctor with this attitude toward the deaf, and we had already been taken out of the schedule. I was told my son was not a patient there. Apparently they had already made the decision for us! It feels alot like discrimination to me! read more
