I just want to thank Jonas, the owner of Modern Computer Systems, for fixing my computer and taking the extra effort to restore my hard drive. My Gateway computer would only boot up in safe mode. I have antivirus software so I thought my hard disk crashed. I had important data on the hard drive and of course I hadn't backup the hard drive in over a month. I left my computer with Jonas and within four hours he called to inform me it was a computer virus and he would remove the virus and try to restore the hard drive. The following day he called to say he was able to restore my hard drive and please pick it up. No parts were needed so the total cost was $85. Jonas has been in business for close to thirty years. I have lived in the Artesia/Cerritos area since 1977. I have been retired for approximately 18 months and I worked as a Project Manager and estimator in the pipeline construction business for 39 years. Approximately one year ago I had Modern Computer Systems, build me a custom computer for my wife and I. We currently use our computer for the internet, email and some word processing......our computer has been working flawlessly until recently we were infected by a Trojan virus. I took our computer back to Modern Computer Systems and their technician was able to remove the virus and I picked it up two hours later. I feel that the customer service people at Modern Computer System are very professional and would recommend any of my friends and anyone else to their shop to have repairs done on the computers. The place looks like a cross between a computing history and a mechanics shop where your VW Rabbit in for an oil change all of a sudden just starts kicking ass for you. It's just cool. Took my ailing pokey laptop in to see if it could be upgraded, one SSD and more RAM and its feels like a whole new laptop! Modern Computer does great and reasonably priced computer repair work. Took my 8 year old Viewsonic 19" monitor there Monday and they said the minimum charge would be $45 plus parts and work would be done the next day. They called Tuesday to say work was done. When I arrived there they said they replaced 3 capacitors, but they did not charge for them! Holding a (low) quoted price is rare and appreciated. A bit cluttered (they must be busy!) but clean and organized. Had my own computer configure & repair business back in the '90s, so I do appreciate Modern Computers' business. No matter what the problem, some customers, having attempted repairs themselves, disagree with expert opinion as to the solution and are surprised that antiquated parts for antique systems are dear. OKAY PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST! these guys seem like decent people at first don't make my mistake. That's before you decide to trust their practice. I was a victim like most of the reviewers here I thought Jonas could be trusted how foolish I was. I asked him if he could repair my laptop, he agreed to begin repair. He had told me he would call when it was ready for pickup. I did not settle on a price until after the repair. The owner Jonas told me it would be repaired in 2 days. Although those 2 days quickly became over 2 weeks I would constantly call the shop or visit, I could not reach him by phone. We mostly communicated over the phone since he wasn't available in the store. Each time I would visit to check on the progress. I had to deal with the only person in the store his son. He was not very helpful rarely speaking English. I became very frustrated with the overall customer relations. Each day I would return he gave some bullshit excuse telling it was not finish. At this point feeling extremely frustrated I wanted to cancel the repair. Julio talked me into accepting a replacement laptop for $260. I bought a used motherboard on line to fix my broken home build computer.To my disappointment it did not boot up.No video signal.I decided to take the whole computer to Modern Computer systems.The owner was kind enough to check it out for me while i was waiting.He spent about a half hour on it ,and found that the mother board was faulty. To my surprise he did not charge me anything. He quoted me (2) mother board/combos at a good price.I will certainly have him help me build my next computer. I took my dead laptop to Jonas to see if it could be saved or at the very least save my years of memories and information. He tried fixing it but unfortunately, the repairs would have been more costly than the value of the laptop. He did however save my valuable information and was able to transfer to a new laptop that I purchased. He also added a program to help me with Windows 8 that simulates Windows 7 at no additional charge. They were extremely nice and worked in a very timely manner. Best place ever to fix your computer! Guy/owner is the computer god. He fixed 2 computers for me at a veryyy reasonable price. I was almost gonna throw those 2 computers but he fixed them and make them like new, he even installed Microsoft office and latest operating system for free. Not only that, I had some issues with my WiFi, one of the computer was not detecting WiFi signal. He went out his way and fix the WiFi issue at my home. I'd recommend this place for any computer issues. Anybody who is going to discard their crappy computer, give him a shot and he's going to make your crappy machine like new. read more

MY GOSH I WISH I COULD GIVE INFINITELY NEGATIVE STARS!! The owner is complete SCAM, and PLEASE, for the sake of your precious computer, STAY CLEAR FROM HIS SERVICE!!!! My $1000 Lenovo laptop is completely GONE NOW! I wish I wish I wish I wish I read these reviews before I made such a big decision to trust my valuable possession in his hands!!! I wish I could curse so much on this post to express how ANGRY I am!! My mom suggested we drop off my laptop to this store because we have been living in Cerritos for more than 2 decades, and this store has been there forever...so it's testament to how good they must be, right?!?! WRONG! They make their money f***ing you computer up so that they can resell the parts, and that's how they make their business. All I needed replaced was the battery charging port in my laptop, which was chipped and therefore my computer was no longer charging when plugged in. Easy!! He said he would order the part to replace it. So we are waiting for the part to come...1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 days and it still hasn't come! We call him every day, and the guy keeps saying it hasn't come. Finally, at the 10th day, the part comes! But then when he replaces it, he says the port is not working because there is a problem with the motherboard. He then opens up my laptop and shows a circuit problem in my motherboard, and my mom believes him completely. So then he says my computer is no longer fixable, but that he can sell another computer he has. (It was completely fine before though! What the hell was he doing in those 10 days, hmm??) We say no, but I really need my files in the computer for some emergent work. So we go back (WHY do we do this?!) and ask him to transfer the files from laptop to an external hardware, and charges us like $80 until we tell him BestBuy does it for like $60. So he does it for that price and says it will be done in 4 hours. But more than 8hrs later, the transfer is still not done! He makes up some perfectly crafted bullshit answer than he has probably given hundreds of other customers, that the files are so condensed that it takes forever to open and then transfer...some BS like that. My laptop is f***ing only 125GB!!! How long should it take??? When we go back to the store and tell him we need it NOW, he all of a sudden gets it done in an hour. WTF???? What the hell was he doing all that time?!?! F***ing around!? He is a major procrastinator and liar!! He charges us, but then he says we don't need to pay if we WRITE A GOOD YELP REVIEW FOR HIM or if we instead sell my lenovo to him because the parts are still valuable to reuse. At this time, he put us in so much damn stress, we say no. I then wondered why the hell a yelp review was that important to him?? That is when I find out he has done this sh** before and scammed other people!!!!!!!! I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED YELP IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!! I would then still have my laptop to this day!! After reading these horrible reviews, we went to another trusted computer store to see if my computer can still be salvaged. The owner there said that the guy unnecessarily tampered with my motherboard and damaged it purposely when all I really needed was a simple replacement of the port. Screws were missing, and the circuits were cut or damaged or something. WE WERE FURIOUS!!!!! I LOST $1000 on that crook, and I can't get my beautiful computer back to life ever again! We took it to BestBuy, and they said we were better off buying a new computer. Let it be known that this guy PURPOSELY damages your computer so that he can sell the parts in it. The owner will tell you everything is working perfectly but then as soon as you take your computer home then there is a problem that won't go away. I do NOT give Trashy... I mean Modern Computers one star - I give it minus five stars!! First- I was promised a computer at a discounted price from a computer that I had seen at Best Buy (I give Best Buy 5 Stars!). The store manager printed out an order invoice for the wrong computer (it was a cheaper computer so that I wouldn't actually be receiving a discount) but tried to convince me that the computer that HE chose (the Second problem) for me was better!?!. Third- After a hard fought battle to get him to fix the order, he told me that his credit card reader was broken (really... A COMPUTER store!) so I had to drive home to retrieve my check book - I haven't used a check in years (discount starts getting eaten up by gas). Fourth- He promised me that the computer would be ready for pick-up the following Tuesday (four days away).. It didn't arrive - he told me that it would be there for sure in two days (now on Thursday)... Fifth- It didn't arrive. He Promise it would arrive the next Wednesday.... Sixth- you guessed it, it didn't arrive!! He said there wasn't anything he could do about it (really? How about telling me the truth. If it will take a month for something to be ready, tell me it will take a month - that, I wouldn't mind - otherwise your word becomes worthless TRASH to me. Seventh-It doesn't arrive. Now I am a fool for not demanding my money back instantly but I was actually buying from this guy (small business owner) more to help a small business and less for the discount. So I wait, a little longer. He again PROMISES it will be there the NEXT Tuesday (week three).... Eighth- It doesn't come, He tells me on Friday... Ninth- He says that it should be with the giant palette of computers that just arrived and tells me that he will definitely be ready by three p.m. and he will Call me. Three comes (he doesn't call me like he says so I have to call him) and he says they aren't done unpacking but that I am their first priority (yea..) He says he will call me back at five. I call HIM at five thirty am told that the computer didn't arrive but that it should be there by Next Tuesday- No sorry, even I have a limit. I demand a refund. He tells me that he can send me a check by mail or that I can come down and pick-up a refund - Simple you think? wait... Tenth- I drive down to get the refund and of course he doesn't have cash or offers to send someone down to the bank to get my money, he writes a check, but wait! he says that he can't give me a check until I give him back the invoice that he gave me for the computer?? He says that his accountant won't LET HIM (the Manager/Owner) give a refund without the invoice - BUT didn't he just say that he could send me a check?!??! I don't have the invoice with me because I had never heard of such a demand, and of course, a COMPUTER store can't complete an online transfer.. Eleventh- I go back home to retrieve the invoice-of-gold so that his accountant won't fire HIM (wasting more gas) Twelfth- I get the check, deposited it a few days later and oh yea, did you feel that earthquake, that was his check bouncing. - I would put a exclamation point at the end of that last sentence but I just don't seem to be that shocked anymore. (the bank charges me 18 dollars for the bounce) Thirteenth- I call and explained that his check bounced, he doesn't fix the problem instantly but tells me that he will write another check (I don't think so). I demand Cash. He tells me to come by next Monday . Fourteenth- I enter Modern Computers to get my CASH and another employee is there, NOT HIM?! I get the employee to give me the cash AND the extra 18 dollars that the bank had charged me for the bounced check. Irresponsible in every way, Add all words that are a synonym for cheat. I had nothing but problems with this guy. Oh yeah, after the first visit, I used a voice recorder with the rest of my dealings with Modern Computers. I had every conversation taped, so I wasn't worried that I wouldn't get my money back if I had to take him to small claims court. Within ONE week, I ended up getting an upgraded model from BEST BUY. The Best Buy in the Cerritos town center. Travis (BB employee) and the manager heard my story and MATCHED the offer from modern computers ( I just don't have enough respect for modern computers to capitalize the name anymore). Do yourself a favor and throw a hundred dollars in the trash, then go to Best Buy when you want anything computer related before walking into modern computers - that will save you FIVE weeks of time. Customers beware! I took my laptop here because it kept crashing on me. After I waited for a week for them to call me back they finally call me and tell me that they had to reinstall windows 7 on my laptop, but neglectfully they didn't even ask if the info on my laptop was valuable. I lost my photoshop software because of them, but that isn't all. A couple weeks after I got my computer back from them I get this black screen that says, "this copy of windows isn't genuine." So not only did they delete my photoshop, but additionally they installed a fake version of windows on my computer. These guys are con artists and I advise you to never step foot into their store. This is the worst; I mean the worst service I have ever experienced in my entire life. The manager required that I prepay for a part for my businesses printer that cost $399.00. I ordered the part at the beginning of June. After a couple of weeks I had not heard anything so I called the manager, he told me the part was on back order (it would have been nice to get a call). After a week I had to call again, and again, and again. This went on until August. Finally, I had to ask for a refund check.......what a surprise the check BOUNCED!!! It is now October 19th and I still have not seen a refund check. Every time I call the manager is not in the office, the one time I did talk with him he promised he would bring me a money order. I think this is a great little computer place. I bought a laptop about 3 years ago. It was used, but in pretty good shape. The guy that works there put a bunch of updated soft ware on it for me at no extra cost, so it wouldn't get any viruses. About a year later I dropped my charger and it broke. I figured I Should take it back, to where I bought it and maybe I could get a good deal on a new one. To my suprise it was free of charge. My experience there was great, and I recommend you try it too! read more

I m a mature professional individual and I take writing a review seriously. I have only written three in my life. So when I say that these people are crooked I do not say it casually. I took my dektop PC to them. They said my video card was the cause and by the way my RAM memory was also bad. The owner installed a cheap video card and removed the bad memory. My original video card was top of the line. He told me the card he installed was better. I noticed lint and dust in some of the ports and asked him if it was a used card (charged $150 for new card) He said it was new . I was in a pinch so I paid the $150 plus the $85 diagnostic. After asking twice he finally returned my original card. After I had some time i reinstalled my card which is much better quality. The PC works fine. The only real problem was the RAM memory, which they just removed (I went down from 4G to 2G). These crooks lied about the problem to sell me a cheap used video card; which I found out was released in 2007! Stay away! read more
