We proceeded to order drinks: three Turkish teas, two lattes, one hibiscus tea (no ice), and for dessert, a Pistachio Magnolia and the highly recommended Dubai Chocolate. At 9:15 p.m., we received three lukewarm Turkish teas. When we inquired about the remaining drinks, we were assured they were on the way. At 9:26 p.m., a server finally brought a glass filled mostly with ice and only a small amount of hibiscus tea. We reminded the server we had requested no ice; in response, they reacted with an irritated expression and disappeared with the drink. About eight minutes later, we received the two lattes, but our desserts were still missing. Finally, at 9:34 p.m., our desserts arrived, and we requested a second cup of tea. Unfortunately, we were ignored until 9:57 p.m., at which point I asked to speak to a manager. The gentleman who approached identified himself as the assistant manager. He apologized and explained they were short-staffed, despite numerous staff members standing around--two of whom were wiping utensils while others appeared disengaged, laughing among themselves. At 10:08 p.m., we were served a "cold" Turkish tea, which was placed brusquely at the edge of our table. The server set it down with an irritated expression and left without a word. By 10:21 p.m., we requested the check, only to find we had been charged for a drink that was never served. When we questioned the charge, the waitstaff responded with dismissive looks, as though we were being unreasonable. The dessert might have tasted good, but the entire experience had already soured it. The only positive note was the assistant manager, who courteously walked us to the door and apologized. As for food, their Turkish breakfast plate is probably what they'll be known for. There are a few Turkish restaurants in Virginia, but Moda offers the most variety on the plate and portion size. I'd also get a borek (savory pastry) or simit (Turkish bagel) to accompany the breakfast plates, but it's up to everyone's taste buds. As for the decorations - can't be beaten. We've been coming to Moda Restaurant since they first opened, and it's honestly one of our favorite Turkish spots. The food is always great, the owners are kind, and the staff knows us and makes us feel welcome every time. It really feels like a place you keep going back to with family. The only downside for us is the music. It can get pretty loud, especially during birthday celebrations. Before we had our baby, it wasn't a big deal, even though it was still loud. But now it's a bit harder for us to enjoy it the same way. We've even brought headphones for our baby just so we can still come sometimes. That said, we still like Moda and continue to visit because everything else is consistently good.
