Popped by Moda for a coffee and nibble. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the desserts similarly. My partner and I both opted for a mocha, both were beautifully presented and tasty. Alongside that we got the pastirma, almost like a Turkish flatbread. That was tasty with gooey cheese and two varieties of meats. Where the experience lacked was service. The usage of the iPad as a menu seemed innovative but confusing as the hostess simply handed it to us and walked away - we thought it was how you ordered but it was just for viewing. Although the environment is beautiful it felt unwelcoming. After asking the hostess for a table for two, her next response was "sure but you can only hold the table for 90 minutes" - during a time when the restaurant was nearly empty with only three other tables in usage. The information felt unnecessary for the situation and left us feeling uncertain about our stay. A similar energy existed with staff in general, lacking warmth and acknowledgment. read more

We happened to be in the Chantilly, VA area and I remembered hearing about Moda Cafe, so we decided to stop in for breakfast. We ordered the Turkish Brunch for Two, which came with an assortment of spreads, fresh bread, two different styles of eggs, French fries, a Turkish cheese stick, and two small hot teas. Everything was delicious -- I could've eaten the spreads all day. Although it's listed as a brunch for two, it's definitely enough for 3-4 people to share. I also ordered a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, which was great. The restaurant itself was clean with plenty of seating, and they have a big selection of desserts on display that looked really good. Service was okay, nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either. It did seem like they have a lot of regulars, and the staff interaction with them felt a bit different. It came with a variety of meats, and everything was cooked perfectly! My only complaint would be is that it came with too many red onions, but that's just me. Big fan of Moda Cafe! It looks so unassuming from the outside but once you walk in you are greeted with bright decor and a positive atmosphere. The seating is almost divided between tables catering to the cafe vs more seating for the restaurant. We came as a group of 5 for dinner on a Saturday night. We didn't have a wait - got seated right away without having a reservation. Our orders were promptly taken and food was relatively quick to arrive. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals! I had the chicken adana kebab and would definitely get it again. I especially love when cafes/restaurants are kid-friendly and Moda Cafe was great! Everyone on the staff was so nice to my toddler. She got crayons and an activity book upon getting seated in her high chair. We ordered hummus for her and she loved it! They do have a kids menu but the hummus appetizer sounded better to us. They have diaper changing tables in the bathrooms (surprising how many places don't). Definitely recommend for a meal with kids. When you dine-in you will notice that occasionally the music gets very loud and it either means their signature on fire meal is coming out or a birthday dessert & song is coming. I found this disruptive at first because it's so loud you can't speak with others in your party. However by the time we left we were all clapping along each time the music came on :) Save room for tea & dessert! At the end of our meal we were treated to Turkish tea & treats - so great! And this was after we polished off dessert. My husband, daughter, and I split the Moda Pudding cup, the pistachio & chocolate flavor. It was sooo good! We ended up coming back again more recently to get this dessert again, for takeout. All the desserts in the case look so great. I would agree with others that ambiance is really nice. It feels luxurious yet cozy. HOWEVER as we've learned growing up, never judge book by its cover. Honestly food was terrible. I used to be an enthusiastic fan of Turkish food but this place made me have a second thought. I don't know whether they microwave all breads but bread that came out as appetizer & simit were terribly hard as if they were microwaved for way too long that the breads lost moistness and became so dry that you can even tell from your eyes how weirdly bread shrank and its texture like rubber). I couldn't even cut with my knife and my jaw was hurt after the first bite from excessive chewing that I didn't even try the bottom part of simit. I am a pretty patient eater (meaning unless food is outrageously terrible I would still finish it) but this is my first time having so much leftover that I had to fill my stomach with appetizer bread (even this was tough that I almost dissected the bread to only eat relatively soft part). Also be wary that they charge you for water!!! It's not like we are in Europe. They have no tap water and you have to pay for it like wth?! It is such a rip off. We were the first ones here at 9:07 am even though they open the cafe at 8 and the kitchen at 9 for breakfast at 9 on Saturday. However, the place was lively by 9:30 with a wide range of patrons. The decor was modern and trendy with a unique and classy vibe for this area. The food was excellent and delicious. We ordered the "Full Turkish Breakfast" for two and were not disappointed by the quantity, variety or quality. Our server was friendly, as was the host who seated us. We heard several languages being spoken at the tables around us, including English, Turkish and Arabic - it draws a diverse crowd. I saw a social media post about this and HAD to check this out. Fortunately, it was right next to Clay Cafe (painted pottery place) and I was able to scope this place out. Admittedly, I had to grab some desserts on my way out. I got the Dubai chocolate bar, pistachio pera, and my son got some strawberry cake slice. ALL were delicious and I've been craving for more desserts from here. I haven't tried the food, and the dessert prices are pretty pricey ($12 for the pistachio cake slice), but SO worth it if you're feeling a little bougie and drink tea with a friend/date. Definitely giving me the date vibe place bc it's really a fancy looking venue. read more

I've been waiting for this place to open for ... weeks!! Unfortunately, I had already eaten and picked up Starbucks when I realized they are officially open and stopped by. However, that didn't stop me from checking out the bakery section and seeing everything they have....and of course, getting something. I ended up ordering 2 savory pastries: -Tahini Fritter $5 -Borek Potato $4 The fritter was nice; the borke potato was more like a flavorless samosa...verrry greasy too. I will definitely try the cheese danishes and the kunefe. They have Turkish and pistachio coffee! Can't wait to try those. The only downside is that hardly anything is labeled in the display cases (as shown in my pictures), so I had no idea what or how much anything was. The second I walked in, I was immediately taken back to my experience and memories of visiting Istanbul this summer. The cafe is enormous and radiant. They also serve halal food. We went in for some drinks and chocolate. My pumpkin spice iced coffee was excellent. The iced coffee with creamer tasted like it was with Irish cream and not regular half and half. Turkish Coffee with Loqum and Dibek (Mastic Gum) Coffee were great and as expected. We got some pistachio chocolate clusters which is probably some of the best chocolate I have ever had...I cannot explain it. If you're looking to try the viral Dubai stuffed chocolate, they sell it! Everything is so clean as well. Please do give grace to the servers. They recently opened and it seems like they are still learning and working out the POS system and general antics. They'll get there, they were incredibly nice and that is what is most important. :) read more

What a pleasant find in Chantilly.I'm giving it 4 stars only because yelp doesnt let me give it 4.5. Located in an older shopping strip, the building may look dated from the outside, but the interior is beautifully modern. Upon entering, you're warmly greeted, and the display of baked goods immediately catches your eye. Everything looks so delicious. My server, Ihsan, was great. He took the time to explain the menu and gave good recommendations. His knowledge and eagerness to help really stood out. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered a Turkish coffee and pistachio baklava. The coffee was strong and flavorful, served with a complimentary Turkish delight, which was a nice touch. They also offer a wide range of coffee options, from lattes to Americanos. The baklava was light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. The place itself is new, clean, and the modern decor makes it perfect for pictures. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try more of their coffee and other food items. This place could easily become my new favorite coffee and bakery spot in the area. The ambiance is really nice so I'll give it one star and the take out chocolate tasted good so another star (but it's egregiously overpriced so really should be 1.5 stars). Now, the food is not plated properly, tastes foul (undercooked and not put together at all, and again overpriced. I think the worst thing here though is probably the service. They are extremely rude, inattentive, and give off the attitude that they can't be bothered to help you. Would never go again and definitely wouldn't recommend, tons of better brunch and fancy pastry cafes as well as Turkish cafes in the area. read more

Jose Sayan and his staff offer the best service you will find anywhere in the DMV! While waiting for my to go order, I was treated to some fabulous Turkish tea. We drove with the original intention of going to the Mexican spot next door and as we parked I looked up and saw Moda Cafe and looked it up on Yelp/Google and I said to my wife "it looks promising, let's try it out." Let me put it this way, Moda Cafe just found a returning customer. We fell in love with the aesthetic of the interior and its decor from the moment we walked in. We were promptly served by Yaqub and he embodies hospitality because of his approach and personality; he is an asset to the restaurant because he takes pride in his service. We started off with the safe bet of baba ganoush and avocado salad as an appetizer. Both were excellent and what I appreciated (because I cook) was that the baba ganoush was freshly made. The avocado salad was fresh and perfectly seasoned. For the entree I opted for my staple favorite, the Adana kebab and my wife chose the chicken shish kebab. Having been to Turkey and savored the food there, the bar was set high but when the food came out, my eyes lit up and I just knew it was going to be good. It actually turned out to be one of the best Adana kebabs I have had outside of Turkey. The meat was seasoned and flavored perfectly and thrown in with the rice and combination of the garlic olive oil sauce, it just hit the spot. I also tried out a piece of the chicken shish kebab and I wished I had gotten a mixed grill to have the best of both worlds. Tender, juicy snd superbly flavored is how I would describe it. Now some may be wondering about pricing and I'll answer it this way., you get what you pay for and it was worth every dollar to me and I would gladly splurge on quality food like this. Interior is beautifully designed! There's plenty of seating to accurate large or small parties. There's a pastry section where you are able to select pastries to go however if you plan to eat at the restaurant they won't let you order from the counter but rather will make you have a seat at a table first. Pastry section does not have any names or description so it is confusing what each item is unless you specifically ask or scan their online menu.I would definitely recommend the restaurant to put in labels so folks that want to go orders can see what the pastries are and do not have to scan the menu to find that especially as someone who has never had Turkish pastries before. Service is OK. I think they are still working on it as a new restaurant. You almost have to kind of flag the waiter or waitress down if you're looking to order or pay otherwise you will be waiting a while for them to come to you. Menu has a lot of selections to pick from, however their actual food is a little pricey but sounds delicious! I order just a pastry and their Turkish coffee, which was very interesting to try. Overall, I do not think it is for me, but it was definitely an experience to try something new. I will consider coming back to try some of their brunch lunch or dinner menu items however I think I will wait a while for them to resolve some of initial issues, such as service.
