We tried the lunch special at Moda today and really enjoyed it. They have some great promotions, and we had the meatball wrap for $14.95. It was fresh, tasty, and very satisfying. I also tried the Banana Magnolia for dessert, and it was delicious! I asked about the cakes because they all looked so fresh, and the staff told me that they make all of them fresh daily. It's honestly hard to find bakery products that are made fresh every day these days. Everything was simple, fresh, and delicious. I've been here twice, and unfortunately both experiences were disappointing. The biggest issue is the service. It's confusing because you're given an iPad at your table, but then you're told to go to the front to place your order anyway. The staff were also unfriendly and didn't make the experience any better, and were ambiguous with the instructions and questions about ordering. The second time I went there, they didn't have any of the items on the iPad, and it took a very long time for the staff to inform me, which just made it more confusing and worse. The food itself was okay, but it was slightly overpriced for the quality. Nothing stood out enough to justify the cost. Overall, It's a nice restaurant! I would recommend it to anybody, even with my experience; however, after visiting the restaurant twice, I was honestly disappointed given how many good things I'd heard about this cafe. read more

WOW! I cannot believe the other low reviews of this restaurant. I ordered takeout here and want to come back to dine in. The food here is delicious! This might be the best restaurant I've been to in D.C. area for super flavorful food. Quality rivals Turkish food I had in east Asia. Service for takeout was also pretty prompt. Popped by Moda for a coffee and nibble. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the desserts similarly. My partner and I both opted for a mocha, both were beautifully presented and tasty. Alongside that we got the pastirma, almost like a Turkish flatbread. That was tasty with gooey cheese and two varieties of meats. Where the experience lacked was service. The usage of the iPad as a menu seemed innovative but confusing as the hostess simply handed it to us and walked away - we thought it was how you ordered but it was just for viewing. Although the environment is beautiful it felt unwelcoming. After asking the hostess for a table for two, her next response was "sure but you can only hold the table for 90 minutes" - during a time when the restaurant was nearly empty with only three other tables in usage. The information felt unnecessary for the situation and left us feeling uncertain about our stay. A similar energy existed with staff in general, lacking warmth and acknowledgment. read more

We had a wonderful breakfast in Virginia. We tried the eggplant toast and the pulled lamb, and both dishes were excellent. I was surprised to see some of the lower ratings on Yelp. My guess is that many of those reviews were left during the restaurant's soft opening period. Before deciding, I would recommend comparing the Yelp reviews with the Google Maps reviews. The reason I'm writing this review is that I genuinely believe this place deserves its current 4.6-star rating, if not an even higher one. We happened to be in the Chantilly, VA area and I remembered hearing about Moda Cafe, so we decided to stop in for breakfast. We ordered the Turkish Brunch for Two, which came with an assortment of spreads, fresh bread, two different styles of eggs, French fries, a Turkish cheese stick, and two small hot teas. Everything was delicious -- I could've eaten the spreads all day. Although it's listed as a brunch for two, it's definitely enough for 3-4 people to share. I also ordered a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, which was great. The restaurant itself was clean with plenty of seating, and they have a big selection of desserts on display that looked really good. Service was okay, nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either. It did seem like they have a lot of regulars, and the staff interaction with them felt a bit different. Came with my elderly relative hoping to give her a treat. Walked in and nobody greeted us. Found a table to sit but nobody gave us a menu. We called for a waiter to give us a menu and he handed us an iPad. Nobody came to take our order. Were we supposed to order on the iPad? Nobody explained! We had such a great experience at Moda Cafe & Restaurant! We tried the pastrami, falafel, and smoked turkey sandwiches, and everything was absolutely delicious. The mezze selection was incredible, and every single one we tried was full of flavor. My personal favorite was the beet mezze. It was so good! For dessert, we had the San Sebastian cheesecake, and it was amazing. The chocolate on top was especially delicious. We were told it's made with Belgian chocolate, and you can definitely taste the quality. We also loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is modern, spacious, and very welcoming. This place was truly spectacular! Stepping into it was like stepping into another world with its bright ambiance and the artwork that was each dessert in the display. Big fan of Moda Cafe! It looks so unassuming from the outside but once you walk in you are greeted with bright decor and a positive atmosphere. The seating is almost divided between tables catering to the cafe vs more seating for the restaurant. We came as a group of 5 for dinner on a Saturday night. We didn't have a wait - got seated right away without having a reservation. Our orders were promptly taken and food was relatively quick to arrive. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals! I had the chicken adana kebab and would definitely get it again. I especially love when cafes/restaurants are kid-friendly and Moda Cafe was great! Everyone on the staff was so nice to my toddler. She got crayons and an activity book upon getting seated in her high chair. We ordered hummus for her and she loved it! They do have a kids menu but the hummus appetizer sounded better to us. They have diaper changing tables in the bathrooms (surprising how many places don't). Definitely recommend for a meal with kids. When you dine-in you will notice that occasionally the music gets very loud and it either means their signature on fire meal is coming out or a birthday dessert & song is coming. I found this disruptive at first because it's so loud you can't speak with others in your party. However by the time we left we were all clapping along each time the music came on :) Save room for tea & dessert! At the end of our meal we were treated to Turkish tea & treats - so great! And this was after we polished off dessert. My husband, daughter, and I split the Moda Pudding cup, the pistachio & chocolate flavor. It was sooo good! We ended up coming back again more recently to get this dessert again, for takeout. All the desserts in the case look so great. It came with a variety of meats, and everything was cooked perfectly! My only complaint would be is that it came with too many red onions, but that's just me. This was a last minute decision when searching for Mediterranean restaurants. The decor was beautiful, the noise level was great for table conversation, and the food and drink was delicious (pot of Moroccan Mint Green Tea, Cold Mezze Sampler, Kofte Kebab, and Grilled Wild Salmon). We're Americans who had never been to Turkey before, and from the moment my wife and I walked in, we were met with a warm, genuine welcome that set the tone for an amazing meal. The restaurant was full of guests of Mediterranean descent, which immediately told us we were in the right place -- people who know this cuisine clearly trust it. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Since we're not very familiar with Turkish or Mediterranean cuisine, we asked plenty of questions, and the staff couldn't have been more patient or helpful. We started with the stuffed grape leaves -- excellent. My wife's quinoa salad with chicken was fresh and absolutely delicious. My Kofte Kebab was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. As great as dinner was, dessert took things to another level. The raspberry ruby cake was unforgettable -- rich, bright, and insanely good. The staff even offered a few extra bakery samples, and every single bite was superb. I would agree with others that ambiance is really nice. It feels luxurious yet cozy. HOWEVER as we've learned growing up, never judge book by its cover. Honestly food was terrible. I used to be an enthusiastic fan of Turkish food but this place made me have a second thought. I don't know whether they microwave all breads but bread that came out as appetizer & simit were terribly hard as if they were microwaved for way too long that the breads lost moistness and became so dry that you can even tell from your eyes how weirdly bread shrank and its texture like rubber). I couldn't even cut with my knife and my jaw was hurt after the first bite from excessive chewing that I didn't even try the bottom part of simit. I am a pretty patient eater (meaning unless food is outrageously terrible I would still finish it) but this is my first time having so much leftover that I had to fill my stomach with appetizer bread (even this was tough that I almost dissected the bread to only eat relatively soft part). Also be wary that they charge you for water!!! It's not like we are in Europe. They have no tap water and you have to pay for it like wth?! It is such a rip off. We were the first ones here at 9:07 am even though they open the cafe at 8 and the kitchen at 9 for breakfast at 9 on Saturday. However, the place was lively by 9:30 with a wide range of patrons. The decor was modern and trendy with a unique and classy vibe for this area. The food was excellent and delicious. We ordered the "Full Turkish Breakfast" for two and were not disappointed by the quantity, variety or quality. Our server was friendly, as was the host who seated us. We heard several languages being spoken at the tables around us, including English, Turkish and Arabic - it draws a diverse crowd. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the giant dessert case. Everything looks amazing! The decor is classy and everything is bright and clean. We were a little confused though because there was a sign about ordering at the counter which didn't match the decor or the prices. As we were looking around, someone did come and seat us. The service was mostly great, with one exception. PLEASE JUST GIVE US SOME WATER WHEN WE WALK IN LIKE EVERY OTHER RESTAURANT! I get that you are pushing your fancy bottled water, but honestly, it just tasted like good filtered water from the tap. I don't want to pay for it. Please just give us some big glasses of tap water! I get that a lot of the people working and dining here are not from the US, but this is something we are accustomed to here and I think it is something we definitely do right! Other than that, we had an amazing time! The food was pricey, but delicious. Our favorites were the stuffed grape leaves and kunefe! I've been waiting for this place to open for ... weeks!! Unfortunately, I had already eaten and picked up Starbucks when I realized they are officially open and stopped by. However, that didn't stop me from checking out the bakery section and seeing everything they have....and of course, getting something. I ended up ordering 2 savory pastries: -Tahini Fritter $5 -Borek Potato $4 The fritter was nice; the borke potato was more like a flavorless samosa...verrry greasy too. I will definitely try the cheese danishes and the kunefe. They have Turkish and pistachio coffee! Can't wait to try those. The only downside is that hardly anything is labeled in the display cases (as shown in my pictures), so I had no idea what or how much anything was. Hopefully this was a temporary thing and everything will be labeled properly. The decoration is just exquisite in the bakery section...simple and elegant. I saw a social media post about this and HAD to check this out. Fortunately, it was right next to Clay Cafe (painted pottery place) and I was able to scope this place out. Admittedly, I had to grab some desserts on my way out. I got the Dubai chocolate bar, pistachio pera, and my son got some strawberry cake slice. ALL were delicious and I've been craving for more desserts from here. I haven't tried the food, and the dessert prices are pretty pricey ($12 for the pistachio cake slice), but SO worth it if you're feeling a little bougie and drink tea with a friend/date. The kebabs were slightly on the dry side for my personal taste, but for those who prefer leaner kebabs, they would be just right. The second I walked in, I was immediately taken back to my experience and memories of visiting Istanbul this summer. The cafe is enormous and radiant. They also serve halal food. We went in for some drinks and chocolate. My pumpkin spice iced coffee was excellent. The iced coffee with creamer tasted like it was with Irish cream and not regular half and half. Turkish Coffee with Loqum and Dibek (Mastic Gum) Coffee were great and as expected. We got some pistachio chocolate clusters which is probably some of the best chocolate I have ever had...I cannot explain it. If you're looking to try the viral Dubai stuffed chocolate, they sell it! Everything is so clean as well. Please do give grace to the servers. They recently opened and it seems like they are still learning and working out the POS system and general antics. What a pleasant find in Chantilly.I'm giving it 4 stars only because yelp doesnt let me give it 4.5. Located in an older shopping strip, the building may look dated from the outside, but the interior is beautifully modern. Upon entering, you're warmly greeted, and the display of baked goods immediately catches your eye. Everything looks so delicious. My server, Ihsan, was great. He took the time to explain the menu and gave good recommendations. His knowledge and eagerness to help really stood out. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered a Turkish coffee and pistachio baklava. The coffee was strong and flavorful, served with a complimentary Turkish delight, which was a nice touch. They also offer a wide range of coffee options, from lattes to Americanos. The baklava was light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. The place itself is new, clean, and the modern decor makes it perfect for pictures. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try more of their coffee and other food items. This place could easily become my new favorite coffee and bakery spot in the area.
