How I heard of this place: I came to learn of MOD Pizza when meeting a friend downtown for a lunch break many moons ago. Now, our kids love it, so we find excuses to go. Type of cuisine: Made on demand pizza and salads. Ambiance: A large, stand-alone building with outdoor parking in their lot. The interior is wide open, with plenty of seating for dozens of diners. Place orders off of the large wall-mounted menu or create your own pizza/salad and walk your way down the display of toppings to make your selections. At the end, patrons pay then take their seats to await their creations. Once called, additional saucy toppings are offered and pizzas placed either in boxes or on pizza trays for indulging. In a convenient location along the D-line, and the space was really clean and bigger than the u-district location, which always feels a little bit compressed (not in a bad way, just in a... long(??) way). I felt like the pizza here was also better, but maybe rose colored glasses since it was my first time going to this location. One caveat - No cash accepted, card only. If you have cash, go to another mod location, or bring a card with actual money on it. Otherwise, be embarrassingly unable to pay when you reach the register after ordering and end up feeling like a total mooch (like me!) Wow, not sure what happened today but it was disappointing. I ordered 2 pizzas extra crispy and a salad for delivery. The salad wasn't the right salad and had none of the ingredients in it that I ordered. The pizzas were not crispy and I had to bake them again and one was so slimy, even after baking it, that I threw it away. They also sent me a ding dong with three sodas. I've always loved this Mod shop, but last night was really special. There was some kind of printer malfunction, so the team got hit with what looked like 20-30 online orders at once, which is extremely difficult to handle with a wood-fire oven. However, the team stayed extremely professional, and they had all hands on deck working quickly while communicating with everyone in line about the additional wait, offering beverages and free pizza passes for those who had to wait longer than the quoted time. Their manager was visibly involved and supportive, keeping the team motivated, and even promoting someone on the spot, to cheers from the whole team. They were still able to get my order out within 15 minutes of the quoted time, handed it to me with a smile, and the pizza was great! Can't recommend this spot enough. I like the Ballard location as it has a parking lot, unlike U District. The estimated wait times can be a little off though especially when it's busy. When their not cheap/stingy on toppings or make your pizza wrong or have your pizza cut unevenly. As a whole great theme and I'm glad this franchise has jumped into the PNW just the execution could be better. The space is huge. So the busy times are very busy, if you come during a rush it can be hectic. I really want to like this place but it's super hard when it's so imbalanced either you get a super good experience or you leave and not want to come back. I'll say one thing is annoying is like they have a rewards program but you have to scan the barcode at the bottom of the receipt but like they don't always give you the receipt so what's the point. read more

We love Mod pizza but this location is often super packed and it puts a lot of stress on staff. Last time we were there for my bday, the service was super rushed and stoney and they seemed to struggle to keep track of which salad was asked for when passing between team members and quickly closed the box and passed it to me without meat - so I gently asked if the Italian included meat and they opened it back up and added some in. Unfortunately once we looked inside the salad there was a long stringy hair. They replaced it but this was a less than stellar visit. read more

Location is pretty good off 15th in Ballard, near Taco Bell, so just go towards that. Came here for a late lunch and it was pretty much dead around 130pm. I think I was the only person in there. Went up to the pizza station, got the Jasper pizza but added a few things to it to jazz it up a bit like spinach, roasted corn and black olives. Took less than 5 minutes for them to call my name and my pizza was right out of the oven and ready for me to consume. Cracker like crust so it may break on you if you have too many toppings. Toppings tasted fresh and was quite good and gave myself a pat on the back for putting additional toppings to have that flavor burst in my mouth. Good sized pizza, perfect for an aging adult, cut into 4 quarters with toppings spread evenly around. Prices are good and they also have an array of drinks. Staff was nice and quick ( no one was in there) so my visit was quite pleasant. Probably plan on coming back whenever. read more

From sticky tables and bathrooms needing attention. The drink fountains aren't maintained or checked on enough. I've had flat sodas multiple times. I love the Mod pizza concept of making pies. I just with the execution was way better. Ive had pizzas under and over done. Your suppose to build your own but the consistency between employees who make your pie boggles my mind. Some barely give you any toppings so you have to ask for more. I would not trust ordering online as you can tell they put less toppings on those pizzas. Seattle's Ballard neighborhood has so many pizza establishments, so we wanted to see what MOD Pizza would add to the mix (former location of Ivar's). The only other time I've tried MOD Pizza previously was at their Seattle Center Armory location. Third time's the charm, since the previous other two times we were deterred by the line outside the front door. We timed it well to show up just as groups of Ballard HS students were heading back to classes. The counter workers were very personable and enthusiastic - seriously - like they really enjoy working there which is a plus! Their energy translated to us the patrons, we felt welcomed and wanting to stay to enjoy our lunch onsite. Clean, bright kitchen and restaurant design with a well designed pizza oven. The thin crust pies are cranked out with organized speed. We selected two of their classic pizzas (mod $7.47 each): the kiddo enjoyed the #1 Maddy which had red sauce, mozzarella with the addition of gorgonzola. Typical tween appetite it was devoured. I had the #6 Jasper which had red sauce, mozzarella, sliced mushrooms, and spicy sausage. We also tried their chocolate milkshakes ($3.27 each). It's great you can get pizzas both smaller (mini $4.47 each) and larger (mega $10.47 each) than the classic mod 10 inch ones made with a variety of toppings and finishing sauces. There's also salads, sweet and savory strips, tarts, and a wide variety of beverages (beer, wine, lemonade, soda, floats, and milkshakes). Absolute terrible service at mod. The staff was more worried about gossiping with each other about what was happening with their other coworkers than taking orders. When a new customer walked in the two employees who were talking to each other about the "drama" the employee who was supposed to be taking orders, turned around said hello give a a sec and then turned back around to her coworker to finish that conversation instead of taking the new customer order completely ridiculous. It seems MOD recently changed up their crusts - not sure what was done, but the flavor profile is definitely better. Pros: Quick pizza, vegan options (yeah),decent customer service, same price for any amount of toppings. Cons: quick pizza, so-so quality of toppings. I've been to two different locations, when I state I'm a vegan the person who preps usually changes their gloves which I appreciate. This last time at the Ballard location the dude didn't.
