MOD was kind of meh. Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, right off of Fannin St, it's a convenient lunch option for patients and hospital employees alike. Their concept is fast, customizable pizzas and salads. I opted for a salad which provides the freedom to select as many of their toppings as desired. It's worth noting that they do have both vegan cheese as well as a vegan meat substitute (huge props!) and these are no extra charge. The service was quick and friendly. The cashier provided a nice reminder to download their app to get a free cake upon sign up and to earn points for each purchase. In terms of the food, my salad wasn't anything exciting. It's a little hard to describe but despite the diverse toppings I chose, it felt a little like eating a bunch of pizza toppings together rather than a handcrafted salad. One other turn off for me was that the employee who prepared my salad gathered each topping with a gloved hand. No utensils used. While I am certainly glad that she had a glove on, cross contamination between each topping bin is inevitable. If you have any strict food allergies, this is definitely not the place for you. Overall, I wasn't amazed with my salad but might give MOD another chance to try their pizza. read more

I've always been a fan of MOD pizza, I just don't get to visit as often anymore. The location is convenient as it's right in the med center and a short walk from my school. My friend and I came for lunch as they were having a BOGO deal for students and teachers. We did come around noon, which is peak lunch hour, so there was a bit of a wait but nothing too extreme. Love how we are able to choose an unlimited amount of toppings. I ended up getting the chicken bacon ranch pizza and added some extra cheese and veggies. The fresh and hot pizza = amazing cheese pulls. Because it's cooked in a brick oven, it's got some nice char on the crust, and it's crispy overall. We also had their marionberry/blackberry lemonade, and it was extremely refreshing and lightly tart and sweet! There are many tables to sit at but can fill up quickly during lunch hours. Few tables outdoors. Can't really comment on parking. Most people who eat here already work around the med center, so they just walk to MOD. read more

I admit, I was skeptical the first time about how liberally they would drop meats and veggies onto the dough at your behest, but once I learned I wasn't to be nickel-and-dimed for each add-on, I definitely jumped at the chance to take advantage of all they had to offer. First decide whether you'll want a personal 6-inch "mini Mod" or the standard "Mod" that could probably feed 2 regular folks or 1 very hungry person. Then, I'd suggest starting with one of the "named" pizzas as a foundation - I was drawn to the Caspian's combination of mozzarella, bbq chicken, barbecue sauce, and sliced red onions, sans gorgonzola, and then added a few extra veggies to taste. You'll check out while your pizza bakes for ~4-5 minutes, then finish your creation at the boxing station with additional sauces, drizzles, and unbaked toppings. The entire process takes maybe 10 minutes from when you start your pizza order to when you get it in the box, so it's quite the efficient operation. I'd describe the dough as a hybrid of Domino's thin crust and traditional Neapolitan pizza - it's understandably thin due to the need to bake quickly, but my overall impression is that it's merely a neutral-tasting vehicle to deliver saucy, cheesy toppings in a handheld format. You're not here for any single component of the pizza - you're here for the Gestalt, the freedom to design your whole dish from scratch to suit your palate. And to that end, MOD succeeds immensely. Furthermore, it's priced competitively to the aforementioned lunch offerings, and it's always hard for me to resist grabbing one of the sickly sweet "No Name" cakes that are reminiscent of Hostess cupcakes. First, the Caesar salad had tomatoes in it (weird), very soggy old lettuce, and hardly any dressing. A few bits and I threw it out. The pizza was just as bad. MOD Pizza is a great option for lunch in the Medical Center area. The pizzas are reasonably priced (my mini 6" pizza was about $6); the service is quick; and the pizzas are tasty. I ordered online, which was great because it was available quickly. And although I'm sure you can customize your order if you order in store, the online system made it super easy to customize my BBQ chicken pizza, which was great. First time trying MOD Pizza since it's right next to my work. This location is a little confusing to me. As soon you as you walk in, you have to go all around to the left hand side and order. The menu is located on the side of the wall as you're waiting to order but it's not viewable at all. People in the back of the line cannot see it (unless the line is long and they are all the way at the door). People in the front of the line also cannot see it (you could get people to skip you as you look at the menu but then it just gets crowded and awkward because the space is tiny) I think the menu needs to be located directly in front of the customers when ordering. The service in general was fine, but there were too many employees all over the place so I was not sure what they were responsible for. I created my own 11 inch pizza and added black olives, jalapeños, pesto and marinara sauce with cheese. When the pizza was done cooking in the oven, the employees call out your name and ask what type of extra sauce you would like on your pizza to finish it off (ranch, buffalo, sriracha, pesto, etc) My pizza was good! I enjoyed the flavors that I chose. I also ordered the No Name Cake and it was delicious! It was chocolate with white cream icing inside. Truly heavenly. It was AWFUL! There were multiple health code violations going on at this location. I witnessed an African American male whom I assume is the manager, vaping by the fire pit for the pizza. Next, I witnessed a young lady pick out toppings that didn't belong in specific containers with raw hands. No gloves. Dirty nails. I addressed the issue and she denied. As we were talking an employee walks up and grabs a hand full of cheese toppings and sausage. This young man was not wearing gloves. I have been a long time fan of MOD pizza, and I have gone to many different locations. This location was not the vibe. The people working were SO rude. The lady kept yelling at me asking me "what else, what else". This is not the normal service at Mod Pizza. Very very upsetting. Came to this locations. And to my surprise I was highly disappointed. The service there needs more work. I highly recommend they re-train specifically for customer service. There was a guest who asked for spinach and after ten minutes she had to remind employees due to them totally forgetting about her. I order the James Dillion pizza which is their version of a margarita pizza and I was kinda sad that it was as flavorful or tasty as I hoped. The employees never once smiled or looked at guests when being interactive. The employees in the dining area just wiped down tables and seemed to try and avoided eye contact with any customer. The trash out front was over flowing and no one seemed to care. This location can be a big hit but with the customer service I'm sure they will lose a lot of customers. I've been to other MOD pizzas and some are good and some have areas of opportunities. This being the one with opportunities. I will probably try this particular location one more time in a week or two to see where they are and take it from there. But as of today I would recommend this place to people I know. read more

Hasn't failed me once. Yes, due to being in the medical center and the hype not only from working professionals but patients it IS crowded. That being said... I've seen them improve drastically over the last few weeks and really perfecting operations and the time it takes from building you pizza to walking out with it.
