We ordered the ribs, briskets and tri-tip. All their meats were too dry. They seemed to be the right cuts with bark as expected. However they were dry. Smothering in BBQ sauce was not able to revive the meal. The corn bread was actually pretty good as was the atmosphere. Really wanted to like this place. read more

Great find in Moab thanks to Yelp!! If you want really good BBQ, eat here. Accidently entered the bar area, but waitress very accommodating and seated us at a table right away. Service quick. Brisket super juicy and so tender. Melts in your mouth. Ate half of hubby's portion . Fries extra crispy but not over cooked. Fall off the bone ribs slightly dry but their BBQ sauces coat the ribs perfectly. Loved their version of mac and cheese and potato salad. Different in a good way. As with every new restaurant we visit, I make it a point to try their version of an old fashioned. There's was a Smokey Old Fashioned. I'd say 3 1/2 stars. We're originally from Texas & have had REALLY good BBQ. We got the 3 meat platter ($24) it comes with 2 sides & you pick 3 sauces, & 2 hush puppies come with it. What we didn't know is it's an additional $3 for meats like "Texas" brisket, & the tri-tip. So it was actually $30 after we chose tri-tip & brisket. We got pit smoked beans & grits as sides. The beans had a very strong onion taste & not the faintest taste of smoke, the grits were very lime-y & there's was a little heat at the end so I don't know if jalapeño was in them or if it was just pepper heavy, I did like them but I wouldn't order the beans again. The meat was meh. We both agreed the pulled pork was the best. The brisket was pale & tasted baked vs smoked & needed sauce, the tri-tip didn't taste like it was seasoned at all or smoked at all, it reminded me of prime rib how it was cooked-medium rare, but again it needed sauce too. We got the vinegar bbq sauce, Carolina white bbq, & their original bbq. The white was great for dipping the hush puppies, & my other favorite was their original. My husband thought the hush puppies were dense but I really liked them & would get them again. Drinks! We started with the wasatch apricot Hefeweizen because they were out of the hazy IPA. Then we got a spitfire margarita because we over heard another table say "this margarita is amazing!" And it is pretty good. That is one thing I'll say about this place, their drinks are cheap! I am not barbeque expert, but their barbeque is just not that great. Let's say it's bad enough for me to spend the time to write the review. Please take this review with a grain of salt though. To me, 3-star is okay and wouldn't mind going back. 4-star is good and would recommend. 5-star is one step above and highly recommended. Location: Convenient. A block away from Main Street. Parking: parking lot with street parking outside. Food: brisket was weak. Not moist, not tender, non-existent to faint smoke ring. Smoke flavor was mild to non existent. Some area has bad smoke note, which was off. Brisket was not evenly sliced. Refer to picture to see how firm the brisket was. I can smoke steak with a deeper smoke ring than the brisket I had. Ribs were a bit better than brisket, but still pretty disappointing. Borderline dry with no juice. They are not fallen off the bone ribs, but more like the competition style texture where the meat is still soft and sticks to the bone. Was expecting a trace amount of juice at the cross section after cutting. Alcohol: they do serve alcohol, so it wasn't that boring. Ambiance: standard bar ambiance. Plenty of seating and tables were fairly spaced out. Service: McDonald's style service. You order and pay up front. You get a number and they bring the food and alcohol. If you need anything else you want up to the bar and ask a staff member. Not a typical waiter/waitress style restaurant. This place needs to improve the quality of their barbeque. The place has the potential, but it was quite disappointing during our recent visit. I do understand it is hard to do barbeque right, but that's why I pay money for a few slices of brisket at a restaurant. So disappointing. We came based on the website menu which is wrong. They changed all the in restaurant menus but ignored the website. We ate anyway and chose the Cobb salads at $17 ea. They were not great. The bacon was burnt to a powdery crisp and room temp. The ranch is watery and flavorless. We also got a side of pulled chicken. I'm from Texas and I eat a lot of BBQ and let me say this sauce is the best I've had. It's thick and it stays where you put it. It has the right balance between sweet and spicy...delicious! The ribs are fall off the bone tender and the brisket is sliced thick, not too dry, not too moist and has a good crust. I didn't taste any spices on the brisket or ribs just smoked meat and with the sauce that's all you need. Potato salad was chunky but bland. The beans were different, pinto mixed with I think, kidney beans, some onion and thick juice and good flavor. I'll eat there again, but try the coleslaw instead of potato salad next time. This place is a block off the main drag and it has LOTS of seating inside and out. This meant we did not have to wait 45 minutes like the other restaurants had quoted us. You order your food at a counter and then they bring it out. The brisket and pork were great, the sausage had a potent kick to it, and the chicken was just meh. This place was recommended to us by our inn keeper. Being from North Carolina the bar was set high. They have a large parking lot in the back so parking was easy. We decided to split a rack of ribs and a wedge salad. The sides were pit beans and mac and cheese. The hush puppies that it came with we didn't care for. But we didn't come here to eat hush puppies. The beans were vey good but the m&c was bland. Salt and pepper fixed that. The wedge salad was made with romaine covered with tomatoes and bacon. The accompanying blue cheese was delicious. This salad is a great item to split. Now the ribs. My wife said these may be the most tender fall off the bone ribs she were had. I thought they were delicious as well. They rivaled Carolina bbq. We had ribs to take home. Our server was very friendly and kind. We liked him a lot. The outside and inside is the new industrial look. Very nice. We got served pretty quickly and it was around 7pm. Hubs only critique is that the side portions could've been a bit bigger. Hubs gives 5 stars and would definitely be back. I ordered a half rack of ribs with mac&cheese and salad as my two choice of sides. It's true that the meat was very savory and slid off the bone easily. There was 4 types of bbq sauce on the table. I tried the regular and the "hot". The "hot" wasn't really Hot, it had a kick to it but was pleasant, not the type you can't eat at all. I actually didn't get to my salad (except for the shredded carrots on top) cos I was so full. It was a good portion for me after a heavy day of hikes. Moab in January means slim pickens for restaurant and bar options. Many places close for weeks at a time, since Arches is predominantly a summer destination. *Pro tip* go in the winter! Spitfire is a BBQ restaurant and bar. The cool aspect of this joint is that they have a formal dining room and a separate bar area. So if you're bringing the kiddos you can hang out in the restaurant section. If you're looking for trouble like me, go to the bar where there are TV's, pool tables and other games. Food comes out lightning fast and the few servers we interacted with were on it. To be honest, I wasn't in the mood for BBQ (like I said, slim pickens). However, I ordered the Smoked Wings and they were great. $12 for a pound of smoked and fried chicken wings with your choice of sauce. Wings were meaty and injected with a deep smokey flavor, warming my soul on a 20 degree night. We ended up staying here all night playing pool and watching the Sunday night football game. I was a little hesitant about coming here as the reviews seemed mixed and I'm a self-professed BBQ snob, but it was right across the street from our hotel and looked like a fun place. There's actually two sides, on is the restaurant side where you line up to order your food as is typical at BBQ places, and the other side is a sports-like bar area. Not to fret though, as you can order adult beverages at the BBQ counter, as well there is wait staff that you can order drinks from once you're seated. I ordered the smoked chicken tacos since tacos at a BBQ joint are usually never disappointing, and they were really good! My companion had brisket and it was okay; I really enjoyed the Carolina-style tangy BBQ sauce with it. We ordered as sides fries and coleslaw, and both were great. I much prefer vinegar coleslaw to mayo, and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. They don't a great selection of craft beer on tap (at least when we were there, as they were out of a several beers) but they have a pretty good selection of craft beers by the bottle. A nice bonus is we arrived before the dinner rush (the line was short), we were able to get an indoor table, and then were treated to some live music. read more
