One of the things I miss most about nyc is getting to eat halal cart. So happy Mo Grill opened up here in Somerville! We had the shawarma platter on a Sunday. Got to eat outside on division st and enjoy the fresh and delicious meat, rice and salad.. Of course the white sauce and red sauce are a must. We ordered food to go today. Ordered seven meals with chicken shwarma platters, mixed shwarma platter, falafel, shwarma sandwich, and rice pudding, baklava, and the owner threw in an order of knufava(sp) for us to try as well. 1. Food cooked fresh, we do not mind the wait for fresh food. Prefer to wait actually and have fresh food vs something pre-made and warmed up. We waited about 15 minutes for 7 meals which is not bad, especially since they were very busy today. 2. Food was excellent. Huge portions for the price, well seasoned meat, flavorful rice, excellent pita sandwich. Rice pudding was delicious and coconut touched, baklava good (I prefer mine crispy which I know is hard when it is pre-cut) but flavor and quality was there. Knufava was delicious as well, and a bit less sweet than the baklava. My whole family enjoyed immensely and we will be back often. Very happy to support small local business. Like to spend our money at local establishments instead of big chains, especially when the quality is as good as it was today at Mo's grill. Whew!!! What a new taste in town and well worth it. First let me say all "Mediterranean" food is not the same. Don't assume you had something like this before. Very very fresh. Worth the time they prep your food. Their seasoning is extremely flavorful and savory and nuanced. The hot spice is not what leads the pack here. Their red sauce is delightful. I highly recommend the meat combo, fries,the mango and Sobia beverages, the rice pudding and baklava. We instantly became fans for all of the above. Customer service was a joy. I've gotten a lot of takeout halal in my days and I must say Mo Grill is some of the tastiest I've had yet! I happened to be in the area and went on a whim and got a combo platter. The spices were very fragrant and full of flavor making some other places seem bland in comparison. The meat was very tender and juicy and the toppings and sauces are heavenly as well. Got a gyro platter, kofta platter, and lentil soup. They also threw in a piece of baklava for me to try on the house! Here is my review of the place: the place is very small and primarily carryout only. They do have one table with a couple of chairs, but I think their business model is takeout. It is very clean on the inside. The gentleman at the register is very cordial and friendly. They serve quickly! I think I waited at most 5 minutes for my order, though I think this will depend on how busy they are at the time. When I went, there was only one other person there picking up an order. As for the food, the kofta was amazingly delicious. Had lots of flavor and was spiced nicely. The gyro was decent and had good flavor too. My favorite was the kofta but my wife liked the gyro. The lentil soup was somehow a little too sweet for me, but perhaps that is how the Egyptian version of it is. The icing on the cake was the piece of baklava they gave me to try. It was beyond flavorful and, usually I hate how sweet baklava is, but this one drizzled in honey had the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch! Definitely looking forward to eating here again!
