Good luck finding parking in downtown Somerville, but since we had good luck with that, I was optimistic we would have good luck with finding food. Walking around the historic cars that love to show off every Friday on Main Street (we learned), we walked down the pedestrian-only Division Street and got here. And I said "hmm - it had nice Yelp reviews, but I wasn't expecting a tiny takeout-only place." So we kept looking. But got drawn back here. Thanks, Dad! This is a little Egyptian eatery owned and staffed by none other than Mo himself. Here you will find a small menu of classic, authentic Mediterranean/Middle East foods that you would find in Cairo. While they were sold out of the dessert I wanted to try, the Hawawshiiii struck me as a must-eat. My dad got the classic chicken kebab sandwich. I offer the following: * Everyone's beaten me to the punch on the amazing portion size you get for the amazing price. * Everyone's beaten me to the punch on how amazing the food tastes. I devoured my hawawshiii and my dad's leftovers. The pita was so soft and fresh that his sandwich was wrapped in. I sopped up my creamy hummus side with it. * During peak period, expect a 20 minute wait for your order. But you've got peak Somerville to explore. On Fridays at 7, live music sets up so we enjoyed some music and poked into a couple of other stores to eat up the time. Not bad at all. I hope Mo Grill makes it and can expand into a full restaurant. Walked around division Street which has a ton of good options and needed something for me and my son. Having been to Mo's before I knew it would be good. It wouldn't take terribly long. We went in and ordered the beef shawarma. Waited less than 10 minutes and we're off to having a great lunch. The guy who helped us was super friendly. He didn't mind my questions and the indecisiveness of a small child. The place is small inside and has signs up that you cannot eat in there. I have a feeling that has to be the town saying that since you could totally like two people sit front And eat a quick lunch. Minimalistic inside before a place that doesn't allow eat and dining. It makes a lot of sense. All in all I would come here again. I think the food is pretty good. read more

Quick and tasty and super reasonably priced. This place is take out only but they have a few tables outside in nicer weather. We wish there were a little more veggies and a little less white sauce on the chicken. The baklava was also not our favorite style. Overall, good halal cart style food. read more

Very delicious food and beverages. Chicken shawarma and kofta shish kabab platters were served with tender meat and fluffy and flavorful rice. We got the sobia (coconut rice drink) and got to try their mint lemonade which had slivered chunks of mint - super refreshing!! Everything was so clean tasting. Generous portions and the man helping our order was so kind and thoughtful. 10/10 would recommend and come back to support this business. read more

A lot of people are comparing this to Halal Guys. I think they are different in flavor and personal taste and not 100% comparable. But I'll base it on a few different categories. Taste- the rice is completely different. Mo grills rice has great flavor but is so overcooked it's mushy. Halal guys has better textured rice but not as seasoned which allows the flavor of the rest of meat/sauce to stand out White sauce- Mo grill has a ranchy flavored white sauce. It's great tasting but I feel overpowering. Halal guys have the heavier mayo flavor, but it works with their meat. Rice- mo grills overcooked but gives you A Lot, halal guys always well cooked but may be skimpy Meat- mo grill has better tasting meat both gyro and chicken. Halal guys needs the sauce/hot sauce to make it great Pita- halal guys gives you 4 pieces and Mo grills gives you 2 Hot sauce- Mo grill is underwhelming with tangy flavors, I feel likes it's a couple store bought mixed, halal guys is truly spicy and flavorful Lettuce/salad- both have it. Halal guys gives you more salad but some people may not like that Value- Mo grill is a great value but they give you 1x2oz container of white sauce for a huge platter. And then extra $1 for another little 2oz container -- halal guys is more value If you get the right location- halal guys gives you 2x2oz sauces when you order sauce on the side and then when you want extra it's $1 for another 2oz Final impressions- Mo grill has something with value with more meat and rice and a different flavor, although I won't return if I'm in the area. I rather go to halal guys. I'll give 3 stars for both these places read more

I did a takeaway order from Mo Grill for a kofta shish kabab platter, mint lemonade, and baklava. The kofta shish kabab platter was such a great portion! The meat was tender, well spiced, and soft. The rice was plentiful. It was also served with two warm pieces of pita and a side salad. I got the white and red sauces on the side instead of on top. I used it for dipping and absolutely loved it. I also got a mint lemonade and this was incredible! It was sweet with just the right amount of tanginess. I loved the subtle mint flavor as well. For desert, I ordered a baklava. This was the only part of my meal I was a little disappointed by. The taste of the baklava was good but it was a bit soggy. I prefer my baklavas to my flaky and crispy. All in all, I loved Mo grill. This food takes me back to my Brooklyn days and I'm soooo grateful. I ordered two meat combo plates and falafel. It ran me about $26. They accept cards, so I was tempted to buy the entire menu. LOL Anyway, the food here is GOOD. The meat combo platter is such a generous serving and tastes incredible. I highly recommend getting extra white sauce, too. Anyway, the food was fresh and delicious. The meat was pretty high-quality, too - no weird meat cuts like some places. In addition to incredible food, the service here was *chef's kiss*. At these prices, this much food, this much flavor, this fast, and this much quality, it's going to be hard for me not to come here every day This tiny little shop might not seem like the classiest spot for a date, but trust me when I say the food speaks for itself. The Falafel is soft and moist on the inside, perfectly crisped on the outside. The taziki sauce on the side isn't the best but it's not needed as the Falafel itself is flavorful. The Hawawshi, meat stuffed between warm, soft bread, is a delicious way to start the meal. You'll have a hard time sharing because you'll want it all to yourself. The Meat Combo platter hits all the right notes. The meats are rich and have a distinct, lamby flavor. I would've liked more of the red and white sauce on top (I just asked for more), but boy oh boy was that creamy combo of sauce, meat and rice to DIE for. The owner was so nice, he gave me a free Rice Pudding which is so unique too. There were bits of coconut and cinnamon flavor. Saw they had just opened so I had to stop in for takeout. I ordered the Meat Combo, a side Hawawshi, and a slice of Tres Leches Cake. Everything was delicious! Definitely get the hawawshi for an appetizer. The meat combo was so good that I kept eating even though I felt full. Not only was the meat seasoned and tender, but even the rice had incredible flavor. The tres leches was a nice way to wrap up the meal. This will become a place a go back to regularly. One note: the red sauce isn't very spicy so either get an extra side of it or add your own. read more

Excellent kebab! My husband and I ordered a gyro platter, Kofta platter, and lentil soup for lunch. The employee taking the order was very polite, and the food was made in a timely manner. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but very modern, clean, and neat. Everything was delicious. The kebab and gyro meats were very soft and tender without being oily or over seasoned. The lentil soup had a little too much tomato base (I think) for my husband's taste, but I enjoyed it fine. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it for take out or for a small group for indoor dining. Next time I will be sure to try their drinks. A must try for downtown Somerville! read more

Was with some friends looking for halal options over the winter holiday break. We oddly found ourselves in Somerville looking to crush some all you can eat sushi at Sushi Palace next door, but something about a platter of Chicken and Rice really started getting our tastebuds going. We ended up getting the following: 1. Chicken Shawarma Platter (what I had) - Comes already sauced with your in-house white and hot sauce. Now I'm usually a big fan of chicken and rice places (thank you NYC for forever supplying me with this since college days) but I always am suspicious of their Red sauces. I've spent many days regretting the decision to slather red sauce on these platters and was immediately suspicious that it was already on there. Needless to say they have a much nicer mild build in your mouth spice than some of the pepper spray places that straight up have you running for a glass of milk. Chicken was moist and managed to snag a chicken Kebob from a buddy which also was still nice and juicy! 2. Rice Pudding - just as how some places judge Italian places by how well they make a chicken parm, whenever k see a rice pudding on the menu I am IMMEDIATELY drawn to try it. Now the really nice thing was the people running the place that day threw it in for free for us so that was already a nice touch. I've been here a couple times because my boyfriend is a huge fan of this place! He comes here once a week! I love their falafel and that's what I try to get when I go! They were out of the falafel this time so I opted for the shrimp, which was fine! It wasn't as grilled as I wish it was. Lastly, I can't eat the white sauce and they added it even though I repeatedly told him no sauce. I get that it's busy on Friday evenings and can be hard but I wish they could have accommodated my request so I could enjoy my shrimp sandwich. Stopped here at Mo Grill a few times, and had an amazing meal each time. For the price you get a really good amount of food, and it comes out hot. My wife and I tried the Chicken Shawarma, meat combo, seafood combo and the Kofta Shish Kabab platter. Everything was delicious! Also had to get an extra red sauce, that has a perfect amount of spice to it. We have also enjoyed the dessert there, the Tiramisu was to die for.
