Power Cleans during a romp with 19.2
Jeff S.

I've dropped into the CF Kuleana three times now, and each time it becomes more and more my favorite box to workout at. I love the outdoor atmosphere, and the equipment is in good selection and shape. Yet really, my favorite part of all is how welcoming and warm the staff and fellow patrons are. The coaches are great and helping and encouraging during each workout. Special mention to Paul and Edison! I highly recommend you stop in whether you live on Oahu or are visiting. You'll walk away a better person.

I emailed the evening before to schedule a time for judging during Open 2022 and got a response the following morning from Paul. He was very accommodating with my schedule that day as I wanted to get a workout and my score in that morning. I parked on the public street parking on Hausten Street as there is no actual gym parking, but the walk to the facility was not far. Upon meeting Paul he gave me ample of time to settle, warm up using their equipment, explained the rules and movements for Open 22.1. During the workout Paul was very encouraging and supportive and reassured whether my reps counted or not. Afterwards I was able to cool down and stretch before closing for the afternoon. I would recommend dropping in to Kuleana Fitness for a drop in if you are visiting or if CrossFit is something you are interested in trying. Will come back again. Mahalo Kuleana

Thank you Marisa! It was a great workout for us Alaskans. Marisa was very knowledgeable and helpful with instructions. But she didn't hold back! Great for anyone visiting or full membership!

Visited as a Drop in during my vacation here. I went during Open Gym hours and everything was neat, the Coach told me where all the equipment was and they had their variety for me to get a solid workout in. Continently located next door to a great food spot called 'Da Spot Health'. But that's another review. Haha Highly recommend!

Ask the Community - Mo Fit

Is the gym an out-door or in-door space with A/C?

Hi Quyen! We are an outdoor open air gym! We have sunshades to block out the sun where our roof does not cover and outdoor fans spread around the gym. We'd be happy to show you around!

1. Online schedule says there is KFIT Mon-Fri @ 5:00 AM. Is this the case? 2. Are dogs regularly allowed?

They do have 5am classes.

Are there open gym hours that would accompany powerlifting type training?

Aloha! The only true open gym hours are at 7:00-8:00 am mon-Saturday and 5-6:30pm on Sunday’s.… Read more

Ok here's the thing. I started going here right after Thanksgiving and managed to stay motivated…read morethrough the new year - due in large part to my awesome coach Mel and the lovely ladies of the 530 AM class! That's right - 530 AM! Believe it or not, it is NOT the earliest class - that honor goes to the 445 AM boot camp - but it's a great way to start off your day. Egan's is all about contributing to your success. There are supplements, protein snacks and drinks, and a bit of gear for sale. Parking is right on the premises at $1/hour. And there is ALWAYS parking! Everyone who works the desk greets you every time you walk in, and my coach requires a once-weekly weigh in. If you aren't trending toward your goal, she (or he) reaches out to you to talk about your variables and how you can change your trajectory. Several times a year there are also challenges to mix things up a bit. These guys are as invested as you are! Coaches are always available to you. And a weigh in isn't just a weigh in - it's a really cool overall body analysis that shows you how much water is in your system (and consequently, how much more you could have), how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle. I know! Cool - AND it holds you accountable. The gym has an app that allows you to manage your payments and reserve a spot for classes. Membership is unlimited all access - you can go to any location at any time and take any class, multiple times a day. Yeah, people go multiple times a day! Classes are fun, but they are HIIT classes, so you do to until exhaustion. But like all fun and challenging things, you can't wait to do it again. Classes also seem to switch the instructors up as well as the workouts, so don't be concerned that you'll get bored because you won't! Even more awesome, during this COVID-19 time the gym has closed but instructors are offering any number of online classes via FB Live and Zoom so you can keep on keeping on! And they are just committed and motivating online as they were in person. I always thought I could just work out on my own and be fine. I liked doing that too. But classes appear to be something I really respond to. I like the accountability and the energy of having others participating with you. I honest to God thought I was going to pass out at my first workout. I quickly realized I was horribly dehydrated and underestimated the effects of a pre-workout protein bar and it never happened again. Egan's help you develop a real body awareness and focus, and helps you renew your commitment to your own success. If you're wondering whether you can make it through a workout, well, you're just going to have to try it. And I highly recommend that you do. You may just surprise yourself!

Walked in to Ikaika Fitness, the third gym on my list and met Alan, the owner ... and well know Hawaii Professional Body Builder. Looked around a found pretty much everything in the way of equipment I could imagine, and equipment that defied my limited skill set to understand. Signed on for a day pass to get the feel ... and quickly felt the Aloha; from the owner; from the Trainers; and from the other members. I've only been coming to bootcamp for a week and a half, but I already know it will change my life…read more Self-motivation is my greatest exercise enemy. That was my #1 reason for giving Egan's Fit Body Bootcamp a shot. (Thank you Kyle H. for the recommendation!...bee tee dubs, Kyle H. is a bootcamp ROCKSTAR & is starting to teach her own classes at their downtown location! What a BadA$$!!!) Bootcamp is awesome. Plain & simple. Here's why: + You're basically getting a personal training session every time you go. The classes are very small so you get a lot of one-on-one attention from your trainer. The trainers truly care about you, they learn your name right away, and they encourage you and push you to your limits in the best most energetic way possible! + Every workout is challenging for ALL fitness levels! I know, you must see that a lot. I used to go to group exercise classes that claimed they were "great for all fitness levels" but I didn't even break a sweat. At bootcamp, EVERYONE (including the buffest of men) sweats from beginning to end! Everyone is gasping for air & working really hard! All of the workouts can be tailored to your fitness level and can be modified, and your trainers are always more than happy to help you modify your workout. + Every workout is different, so your body will never get used to the same work out over and over and over. + No weights! I was a weight lifter...and I HATEDDDDD cardio with every fiber of my being! But bootcamp utilizes TRX bands, MMA skills, weighted balls, giant ropes, suspensions, giant rubber bands, sliders, and your own body weight to create a perfect and FUN mix of cardio and strength training. Walking up stairs no longer makes me wheeze. Anyone who knows me knows that's a HUGE accomplishment! + Everyone is friends. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. Everyone takes the time to introduce themselves to you, learn your name, and encourage you throughout the workout. Some people will give you the kindest encouragement, others will generously dish out tough love ;) + Classes start at 5am. WHAT?! That's right. This early bird was STOKED to hear that! Not only can I finally utilize my early morning energy that no one appreciates (I'm not offended, my morning energy is really obnoxious), but I can get my daily workout over with by 6am. HALLELUJAH! + Nutrition, weight, and body fat analysis is included! I am weighing in every week and testing my body fat percentage. They also gave me an exercise & food journal. I have a 2 month goal. If I make it, I can continue on to a new goal. + Bootcamp costs more than your typical gym membership...but if you consider the intimate training, nutrition plans, weight and BF tracking, and INCREDIBLE support system...it's truly worth EVERY penny! (Plus, if you're like me...you'll want to go everyday to get your moneys worth!) ;) If you're thinking about joining Egan's Bootcamp, give it a shot, you get 1 week free!

I would even suggest a beach towel because the floor is padded for MMA training. Everyone seems to know each other really well. It's clear this is a close knit group. Mostly aunties were at this bootcamp, but boy they could kick my booty! If I was in a hunger games match, I would ally with them. We started with some stretching and balance moves before we moved on to the famous "box" plank. This was followed by a pushup circuit. I thought I was pretty strong in my pushups, but the padded floor forces you to focus on pushing up instead of back on the plyo pushups. You will be barefoot this entire time as well. One point for me for handling the one handed pushups woohoo! We spent the rest of the class partnered up. From box jumps to resistance band moves, you relied on your partner heavily throughout the remainder of the class. It really adds a sense of camaraderie among the students. At the end you clean up the mat because we sweat all over that place. It's such a different take on the bootcamp concept, but I will return for my "auntie" butt kicking next week.

I like the use of props in Hapa including loop band, yoga block, pilates ball, etc. I think they only provide 5 and 10 lb dumbbells. Classes are held downstairs in the jiu jitsu room so it's comfortably padded. You can store your belongings in either cubbies or locker room. The room is spacious, nicely dim, and with mirrors across 3 walls. It's warm immediately when you enter. The mats closest to the heaters receive direct heat. I've taken heated classes at other studios and was surprised how much sweatier I got here. Class size is max 20 so I can only assume how much hotter it can get with a full class. Clean space and they swifter mop the floor after classes. Please know that they have an aromatherapy diffuser going in the room, in case you're sensitive to essential oils. The cold towel they place on your temple during savasana is a nice treat. Membership comes with full access to the main gym, sauna, cold plunge, and locker room with showers. HoloHIIT checks off all the boxes in what makes a gym membership worth the money, especially if we compare it to boutique fitness studios who don't even offer basic things such as bathrooms or water dispensers. However, they have a limited selection of class times, most scheduled very early in the morning. While the perks are nice, I cannot commit to an unlimited membership -- let alone 2x a week -- based on the limited classes times and class types offered at the moment. HoloHIIT has a lot of potential and I am looking forward to seeing this studio grow. Here's some suggestions: 1) an app would be great, the website is not mobile friendly, and 2) get some classes started at Egan's Pearl City!
