Are you looking for a laid back gym that will cater to you even if you aren't totally committed to becoming an athlete? Then don't go to CrossFit 808. The "customer service" is not bad. When you are at the level of 808, you have the luxury of not having to crush yourself for every potential customer. And that is the point of a CrossFit box, right? If you are motivated and committed, then they are motivated and committed for you. The elements class was a great into to CrossFit and its basic movements. Coach Josh was extremely knowledgeable (as was Coach Joe when my wife and I had to reschedule for a morning class because we had a commitment in the evening... i.e. they worked with us on our schedule without charging us another $50). However, you do get the impression in the elements class that you are not worth talking to by the 808 regulars until you have COMPLETED the elements class. My wife and I have had multiple, LONG discussions about whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. The jury is still out. But don't expect a warm welcome until you actually start WOD'ing. From then on, ALL of the people from the coaches to the athletes are super warm and helpful. The WODs are some of the more intense that I have experienced in my short CrossFit life. But when you actually complete them, like in any CrossFit WOD, you feel that sense of accomplisment like no other. Slow to respond to emails and inconsistent on updating the daily blog? Yes. But go to the box and you will see it is because they are busy working with people. They don't give themselves a lot of time to work on the administrative side of the business. Overall, I am extremely pleased and extremely PROUD to be an active member of CrossFit 808. Just be sure that this is what you want.

Been with this box since Feb 22, 2011! First day it opened! I can honestly say that this place has been my 2nd home ever since. As an active duty air force member, crossfit has helped me be in the best shape of my life and is responsible for always keeping me mission ready. Once you visit here, it is easy to see why the coaches, the people and the box ranks first class! Coaches: Elyse and her staff are not only remarkable and accomplished athletes but they are outstanding trainers as well. These guys are a wealth of knowledge and love what they do. From coaching kids to masters, the coaches know how to help each individual achieve their best possible fitness level. The people: as one of its longest paying members, i can honestly say that the people take after their coaches. Everyone welcomes new members with open arms and is not afraid to hold each other accountable. As with any crossfit box, the last finisher receives a louder cheer than the first. People here are very welcoming as long as you're respectful and friendly as well. The place: for a small space elyse and her coaches runs this box like a well oiled machine! The programming wil challenge anyone from beginners to elite athletes. Equipment is top notch and you can expect the best quality of any equipment from rogue fitness! Parking is plenty towards the night because of nearby lot a of street side level parking. (Update: i heard they wil be moving to a bigger place soon!) If you are still reading this review, you need to get up and hit up this place already! Ever since moving back to cali, my crossfit life has not been the same. Give this place a chance and i know you would love it as much as my family and i have. #6p #prorEr #cf808

Walked in to Ikaika Fitness, the third gym on my list and met Alan, the owner ... and well know Hawaii Professional Body Builder. Looked around a found pretty much everything in the way of equipment I could imagine, and equipment that defied my limited skill set to understand. Signed on for a day pass to get the feel ... and quickly felt the Aloha; from the owner; from the Trainers; and from the other members. Found my "fave"treadmill, whom I now (6 months later) visit daily ... and got all the other machines figured out (through watching others, or asking questions.). Every one is friendly if approached ... but give you space, and don't criticize unless asked. Trainers are low key, and not pushy ... struck up conversations, and gently found the right fit. Ikaika Fitness is my new home; where my day begins ... I've lost weight, improved my shape, health and attitude. Ok here's the thing. I started going here right after Thanksgiving and managed to stay motivated…read morethrough the new year - due in large part to my awesome coach Mel and the lovely ladies of the 530 AM class! That's right - 530 AM! Believe it or not, it is NOT the earliest class - that honor goes to the 445 AM boot camp - but it's a great way to start off your day. Egan's is all about contributing to your success. There are supplements, protein snacks and drinks, and a bit of gear for sale. Parking is right on the premises at $1/hour. And there is ALWAYS parking! Everyone who works the desk greets you every time you walk in, and my coach requires a once-weekly weigh in. If you aren't trending toward your goal, she (or he) reaches out to you to talk about your variables and how you can change your trajectory. Several times a year there are also challenges to mix things up a bit. These guys are as invested as you are! Coaches are always available to you. And a weigh in isn't just a weigh in - it's a really cool overall body analysis that shows you how much water is in your system (and consequently, how much more you could have), how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle. I know! Cool - AND it holds you accountable. The gym has an app that allows you to manage your payments and reserve a spot for classes. Membership is unlimited all access - you can go to any location at any time and take any class, multiple times a day. Yeah, people go multiple times a day! Classes are fun, but they are HIIT classes, so you do to until exhaustion. But like all fun and challenging things, you can't wait to do it again. Classes also seem to switch the instructors up as well as the workouts, so don't be concerned that you'll get bored because you won't! Even more awesome, during this COVID-19 time the gym has closed but instructors are offering any number of online classes via FB Live and Zoom so you can keep on keeping on! And they are just committed and motivating online as they were in person. I always thought I could just work out on my own and be fine. I liked doing that too. But classes appear to be something I really respond to. I like the accountability and the energy of having others participating with you. I honest to God thought I was going to pass out at my first workout. I quickly realized I was horribly dehydrated and underestimated the effects of a pre-workout protein bar and it never happened again. Egan's help you develop a real body awareness and focus, and helps you renew your commitment to your own success. If you're wondering whether you can make it through a workout, well, you're just going to have to try it. And I highly recommend that you do. You may just surprise yourself!

I love this class as the teachers motivate you in a positive way and it's great because they have accountability to keep you motivated in attending class and being interactive with your health goals. I started to feel a big difference within the first two weeks of attending and the classes run Monday, Wednesday & Friday. I had more energy. I could feel more muscle mass and even though the class is only half an hour you get an intense work workout not only cardio but muscle building. Before I started, I was in the worst shape of my life, always getting sick and feeling fatigue most of the time . After being there for about a month, I can say I have a new outlook on life and truly appreciate what they have done for me.

I've only been coming to bootcamp for a week and a half, but I already know it will change my life…read more Self-motivation is my greatest exercise enemy. That was my #1 reason for giving Egan's Fit Body Bootcamp a shot. (Thank you Kyle H. for the recommendation!...bee tee dubs, Kyle H. is a bootcamp ROCKSTAR & is starting to teach her own classes at their downtown location! What a BadA$$!!!) Bootcamp is awesome. Plain & simple. Here's why: + You're basically getting a personal training session every time you go. The classes are very small so you get a lot of one-on-one attention from your trainer. The trainers truly care about you, they learn your name right away, and they encourage you and push you to your limits in the best most energetic way possible! + Every workout is challenging for ALL fitness levels! I know, you must see that a lot. I used to go to group exercise classes that claimed they were "great for all fitness levels" but I didn't even break a sweat. At bootcamp, EVERYONE (including the buffest of men) sweats from beginning to end! Everyone is gasping for air & working really hard! All of the workouts can be tailored to your fitness level and can be modified, and your trainers are always more than happy to help you modify your workout. + Every workout is different, so your body will never get used to the same work out over and over and over. + No weights! I was a weight lifter...and I HATEDDDDD cardio with every fiber of my being! But bootcamp utilizes TRX bands, MMA skills, weighted balls, giant ropes, suspensions, giant rubber bands, sliders, and your own body weight to create a perfect and FUN mix of cardio and strength training. Walking up stairs no longer makes me wheeze. Anyone who knows me knows that's a HUGE accomplishment! + Everyone is friends. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. Everyone takes the time to introduce themselves to you, learn your name, and encourage you throughout the workout. Some people will give you the kindest encouragement, others will generously dish out tough love ;) + Classes start at 5am. WHAT?! That's right. This early bird was STOKED to hear that! Not only can I finally utilize my early morning energy that no one appreciates (I'm not offended, my morning energy is really obnoxious), but I can get my daily workout over with by 6am. HALLELUJAH! + Nutrition, weight, and body fat analysis is included! I am weighing in every week and testing my body fat percentage. They also gave me an exercise & food journal. I have a 2 month goal. If I make it, I can continue on to a new goal. + Bootcamp costs more than your typical gym membership...but if you consider the intimate training, nutrition plans, weight and BF tracking, and INCREDIBLE support system...it's truly worth EVERY penny! (Plus, if you're like me...you'll want to go everyday to get your moneys worth!) ;) If you're thinking about joining Egan's Bootcamp, give it a shot, you get 1 week free!

I would even suggest a beach towel because the floor is padded for MMA training. Everyone seems to know each other really well. It's clear this is a close knit group. Mostly aunties were at this bootcamp, but boy they could kick my booty! If I was in a hunger games match, I would ally with them. We started with some stretching and balance moves before we moved on to the famous "box" plank. This was followed by a pushup circuit. I thought I was pretty strong in my pushups, but the padded floor forces you to focus on pushing up instead of back on the plyo pushups. You will be barefoot this entire time as well. One point for me for handling the one handed pushups woohoo! We spent the rest of the class partnered up. From box jumps to resistance band moves, you relied on your partner heavily throughout the remainder of the class. It really adds a sense of camaraderie among the students. At the end you clean up the mat because we sweat all over that place. It's such a different take on the bootcamp concept, but I will return for my "auntie" butt kicking next week.

I Don't Have Parkinson's Disease, Can I Still Join?…read more Absolutely! There's an amazing feeling walking into Fitness Therapy Hawaii the gym culture there is one of a kind. FTH offer a judgment-free setting where you can feel safe and effectively work toward improving your health and mobility.  I've been training with George for almost 5 years (-2 Covid years ) now, and I believe he is one of the most experienced & committed trainers in town. I started training once a week, as part of a semi private session, i really enjoyed the variety & challenge he put into the sessions and then he took me on for one-on-one training as I gained more confidence using the equipment. I extended my membership to work out during after business hours. As a business professional, the only time I might get a chance to get in a workout would be during, midday or late evening where most gyms would be overcrowded. I occasionally get the whole gym to myself. Another bonus would be free ample parking . I like that the gym offers a clean private men's and women's showers. George is focused on helping me achieve my goals and makes every session challenging (& somehow fun). My fitness has increased noticeably and I've seen improvements in my aerobic health. I'm not feeling so tired by the end of my work day which give me opportunities to take on more changes. George's core training experience will take your body/ posture to a whole new level. No more bad posture or chronic back pain for me. I find I actually look forward to my training sessions especially now in their new Smart Gym. Importantly: - He ensures that my technique is always correct to avoid any injuries. - He is extremely reliable & punctual - always set up & ready to start training ahead of time, with an exercise routine planned. He's never tired and his energy is through the roof. I also thoroughly enjoy working out on Saturday's, it's not like your old school boot camps, it allows me to sleep in a little because the class starts when I get there... Saturday's battle zone circuit is a science based, full body 39 minute circuit training circuit that everyone can do, under the guidance of two pros. I would recommend George & his team to anyone looking to improve their fitness with a dedicated group of trainers.
