This can be a pretty evasive job if you do not know what you are doing. Matthew and his assistant (his name escapes me right now but equally respectful and nice) did an amazing job! I replaced the old plain door with a six panel door that matched the rest of the updated home. He bought the door, I supplied the paint for the wall and door that I had left over and he took it from there. In less than a day, job was finished, area spotless and craftsmanship perfect. I did not expect premium work from a handyman, but I expected reasonable care and a functional result. The gate sagged and dragged on the ground the following day. When I asked about replacing the two mismatched pickets with closer-matching material, Curt requested additional payment and said the repair did not need to look good because I may eventually replace the whole fence. The job took about 2.5 hours, involved limited materials, and cost several hundred dollars. The fee was not clearly established in advance, and he questioned whether the cash payment in the envelope was complete. During the job, he also repeatedly complained about the effort involved, including carrying tools around the house. When I raised these concerns, he was defensive and dismissed the possibility of an honest review because he had enough positive reviews. It came across as arrogant rather than willing to address the problems. I would not hire or recommend him. PS. Curt now claims that, after being paid $400, he offered to replace the mismatched fence pickets. His written response below shows otherwise: he asked for additional payment to correct the mismatched pickets, which were part of his original work.

Over time, the wood started rotting and paint started peeling off. With El Niño approaching, I wanted to get this fixed. I spent several weeks researching handymen and door repair specialists. Most people I contacted wanted to completely replace both the door frame and the door itself which was quite costly. Additionally, my door and the upper jambs were still in great condition, and I didn't want to be wasteful by throwing those away. One person told me that this sort of repair was too difficult and didn't want to take it on. Ivan responded that he had fixed similar issues before and quoted me a reasonable price. Ivan arrived on time and got right to work. Something that I really appreciated was he took the time to explain step by step what he was going to do. The end result looked fantastic. He was able to replace the bottom jams, paint, and seal everything to the point where it looked like there had never been any damage in the first place. We had rain a week after the repair was done and my door jambs were bone dry the entire time. One thing I do want to note is that Ivan does have a a team that works under him. If you want Ivan specifically, you will need to request him but know that you might need to wait a little longer because he is very popular. I don't foresee having any more door issues since he did such a great job but if I ever do, I will definitely contact Ivan again.

He said 1 hour late, then another, then another, and did not end up showing up at all. Claimed family issues on top of other excuses about his partner. Eventually, the day he showed up, was not the best experience either. He brought a partner with him. For some reason, it took both of these men to go to Home Depot and pick up 4 items. The Home Depot was 1.2miles away, but for some reason it took them an hour and a half to pick up the items! And they forgot one!! So I, who am not familiar with Home Depot, go there, pick up the item and am back within 30 minutes. While they are supposed to be working, I go out and Gilbert is gone. I text him, and he said he was using the restroom somewhere else and was pulling up shortly. What the heck?! I have 2 restrooms in my home. RIDICULOUS, and I certainly shouldn't be paying for you to go home or wherever to use the restroom. The work he did was sub par, he made a frame to surround my air conditioner, and it fell off weeks later. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. GILBERT IS BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL.
