Just remember: it's a tiny, family‑run joint in McLean, so don't roll in expecting white‑tablecloth vibes or lightning‑fast service--there are only two folks out front (the old aunty and uncle) and two behind the sushi bar. Great little sushi place in the heart of McLean. Super cozy vibes, sushi is great, no issues with the quality or taste of the food. I always get the Yaki Maki roll which is cooked and it's really yummy. Their udon is pipping hot and great on a cold winter night. About a 2-2.5: It's been a while since I've been to Miyagi; because I was in the area, I've decided to try them out for lunch. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Combo, under their lunch specials - this came with tuna, salmon, shrimp nigiri (it also stated 'crab', but this was not included); tuna, salmon, white fish, and octopus sashimi, and 3 pieces of California roll. The nigiri was fine, but the rice wasn't prepared well in which it just fell apart easily. The sashimi could have been more fresh; the octopus had a fishy smell to it, which was pretty unappetizing. The California roll was okay, but again, the rice wasn't prepared well that it fell apart easily. Miso soup was served with, which was piping hot and a great way to start off the meal. You also are asked if you want low-sodium or regular soy sauce, which I thought was a nice touch. Service was friendly, but a little absent-minded; I had to request water. Note that the restaurant doesn't have a website, so the menu and the prices does not reflect the current pricing you'll be paying (about a 40% mark-up). This was my first time having the Spicy Eel And Tuna Roll but I loved it and will definitely order again! The eel nigiri is amazing, everyone in my family LOVES it. I would suggest starting with 2 orders (as shown in the pic) as you will definitely want more! The waiter is an older man and woman who are so sweet! I found this place a bit too late after living in Mclean for seven years and being within walking distance to this shop. Pretty sure it was owned or at least operated by Korean Americans, but the food quality is on spot. Miyagi has a reputation for terrible service but we tried it for takeout when the wait for Tachibana was over 3 hours long. It was a nice surprise for a discount Korean sushi place. The maki isn't stellar or very beautifully constructed, but it was good tasting and reasonably priced. We didn't get too adventurous or go for the absurd high-profit "signature" rolls, but the fish we tried was fresh and tender, with nicely balanced and seasoned rice. read more

We have been going to Miyagi for years and normally I would rate them 4-stars. We carried out 3 orders of shrimp tempura roll and one order of fried gyoza. These are pretty simple items... I am truly disappointed to share that the food was terrible and not worth eating. The Gyoza were extremely hard and the rolls would disintegrate as soon as one tried to pick them up with a chopstick. RUDE RUDE RUDE. Never coming back here again. We made a reservation for 6 people ay 6PM. We get there and the owner, who is also the waitress here just made us wait to sit down even though the entire restaurant was empty. I was there with my two children and we were just standing as she was getting the to go orders for over 10 minutes. Mind you, the place only had one table that was finishing up. The meal itself was FINE but her interactions, rolling eyes and side comments made the entire meal just AWFUL & uncomfortable. Mind you, I have been a regular customer here, coming often during lunches but this establishment has lost our business. She was NEVER friendly but today I had enough! Another thing that she does is only write the total on the bill and does not show you the line items you ordered. Finally, I asked her for the line items today and she went ahead and said "I will give it to you, don't get excited". Do I not have a right to know why I paid $150 today? Decent sushi place! The service is nothing to brag about but it's not bad either ie they get the job done. It's a small restaurant and fills up quickly! I don't think there are a lot of sushi options in the area so that is likely partly why. The sushi was good! I tried the salmon roll, seaweed salad, and teriyaki chicken with rice. Everything was great. I wish the portions were a smidge bigger and you could make all the rolls inside out. But I definitely enjoyed my meal. Pro tip - if you have little kids maybe skip it. This place is hands down my favorite sushi spot for their chef specialty rolls. They are to die for. I'm not a huge shelled seafood person but I even like their baked scallop roll! They use to prior to the pandemic give this tofu in a soy sauce based sauce that is to die for but fear not you can order it and they give you like 4 times more than when it was complimentary. I'm sure it was a one time thing, but it definitely turned me off a little. On a happier note, Miyagi's specialty rolls were memorable! We ordered the volcano roll, baked spicy scallop roll, and creamy garlic with spicy tuna roll. The presentation was impressive! The rolls were tasty, but definitely on the heavier side with 2 out of 3 being baked and all of the toppings added on. We also received a complimentary agedashi tofu appetizer before our rolls were delivered. Our hot tea was consistently refilled and the service was efficient. The restaurant is small and quaint, and there aren't many tables so I would recommend dining early so you won't have to wait too long. Reservations are also accepted. If it were not so far away from where I live, I would be here more often - much more often.The Japanese Lasagna roll is absolutely delish and what keeps me coming back to this place.. again and again and yet again! I also love the baked scallop roll and basically every other roll on their menu, lol! I want to come here more often - it's a pity I live so far away. The miso soup is always yummy as is their regular Salad - and that's saying a lot because I usually stay away from sushi place salads- I think it is the dressing - tangy and ginger-ey. In addition to their baked rolls, I absolutely recommend the crab salad roll - very yummy albeit a little too big to go into my mouth in one piece lol - hence a little complicated to eat.. Service can be a little sparse, depending on the rush, but take out is usually pretty fast. Just had a nice dinner at Miyagi, but service was slow and unresponsive. Also, owner was very rude to another customers. I saw some of the staff laughing because they also could not believe how rude the owner was. Customers definitely don't come first here. We came here on a relatively early evening and the restaurant was not that crowded. There was an elderly woman who was handling the orders. She handed me a bag, and not knowing if the paper bag on the order stand next to me included it, I touched it. It was shocked. She immediately yelled at me that it was my only order and scolded me for not listening. We walked to our car and checked it before we left - it wasn't our order at all. Not one bit. So my friend went back to explain this and she too was scolded for apparently not giving her the right name. No apologies from the woman on her lack of customer service. It was very shocking how she treated me and my friend. Being yelled at in front of patrons is not acceptable and uncalled for. We also had kids with us who witnessed this, and it ruined our dining experience as we had to explain to them that sometimes people behave badly towards others without reason. First time dining here and will definitely come back again. Food 4 stars, service 1 star. The place was packed on a Thursday night at 7pm so I figured it had to be good. PROS: -The sushi is absolutely delicious, the entrees were not as good but the sushi rolls had generous portions of fish and nice fresh vegetables. I really enjoyed the food so much I wanted to come back the very next day to eat again. CONS: -Place is extremely cramped, they have about 11 tables which are mostly 2 tops a few 4 tops and then a cramped area of seating at the sushi bar which I believe seats 5 uncomfortably. -Service is awful and I mean awful. They have 1.5 servers (no not a typo) for the entire restaurant and you basically have to ask for everything up front otherwise they will only come back to quickly drop off the food at your table and quickly leave. -Water, I know it's weird to discuss the water but it's semi-cold with no ice and to get refills I had to flag down the waitress three times. -Take-out area is at the entrance and it's really difficult to get by all the people waiting for take out to get into the restaurant to be seated. -Skip the gyoza - 6 pieces that were really hard and lacked any flavor. *This place could move up a star if they provided better service. read more

Haven't been to this restaurant in 5 years! Its a small restaurant located behind Boston Market. Parking can be a bit tricky, but they have a small lot and free side parking outside the restaurant. As you enter you are greeted and you have an option to do takeout or eat inside. I did takeout. Ask for their menu, because they have more options then their mini brochure. I order the White Dragon Roll and oh my goodness it was delicious! Its semi overprice $14.95, but it is served with shrimp tempura and salmon stack on top. I will definitely be back possibly this week to get more. As well, you have to waste $10 to use credit card. read more

Service is ok, they don't come up to refill your drinks unless you ask for refills. A bit pricey maybe because of location.
