OK, it was really good, but pricey -- even more than nearby organic Soupfreaks or Sellers Market. Brent B. must make a lot of money doing marketing if he thinks it's "affordable", but I work in nonprofit. Organic and take-out containers made out of corn are worth extra $$, but I won't be able to eat here too often. I think I would feel it was more worth it if I ate in and had it in a nice big white china bowl with a glass of wine. I had the Bachelor and it was a bit over $10. Check it out: It's 2 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon--early for me, but I promised myself I'd try this place and set my alarm especially for the occasion--and I'm standing in line at Mixt Greens. In spite of having a packed house, the staff seems completely unfazed and takes care of its patrons with surprising efficiency; my total wait time, from entrance to cash register, was about three minutes. So there I am, feeling absolutely giddy about the idea of having "frizzled leeks" atop my organically grown lettuce, when I catch sight of the grand total: $13+. Are you kidding me?! All I ordered was a salad and a lemonade! The food was first-rate--not life-changing, but damn good--and, really, how could it not be with tempting ingredients like filet mignon, garlic herb croutons, and--get this--"balsamic onion marmalade"? Good salads, seems to be lighter on the dressing which keeps everything tasting fresher. Good variety of ingredients in each salad, and they even have salad/sandwich combinations that complement each other well. Takes pick up orders, so you can skip the lunch rush by planning ahead. Weird thing to note - Ordered lunch for the office here, and was surprised to see that the SF Employer Mandate gets charged multiple times. I'm all for helping out the hardworking staff, but it's curious to see them passing the cost on and adding on to the check per item, rather than building it into the price of the menu like so many other places. read more

I had lunch here today. So let's begin by acknowledging the fact that although I am an equal opportunity omnivore, I tend to operate more towards the carbs and protein side of the menu so when my friends suggested we go to a salad place...well, I was not all that excited about limiting my caloric intake for the afternoon to the rabbit food section...no offense. I had the Maui and I have to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised. The salad was big and quite tasty with lots of things that don't appear in my salads with much regularity. In fact, I will go so far as to say the Ahi Tuna, which is why I ordered the Maui, was my least favorite part. Nicole, I know you take issue with the candied walnuts...I was offered to try one by the cute server and I capitulated as guys do when a cute girl offers food...I love 'em. She switched the bland nuts that were supposed to be in the Maui with the mouthwatering spicy candied walnuts and I was in heaven. This meat and potatoes guy has a new found respect and admiration for the leaf and I see myself frequenting this place...early though. We walked into the empty shop at 11:35 and walked out past the line almost to the sidewalk. Good lord that place is popular.... The food is yummy (both salads and sandwiches), the service is quick, even if the line is out the door, the max wait time is 10 minutes. So what ist here to complain about? The price of course! Each time I go to Mixt Greens I always hope to be fully from my 12 dollar salad... With a 12 dollar salad, I expect lots of yummy toppings, some delicious protein, basically... I just expect something special, call me crazy. Mixt greens always skims on the topping, expect your salad to be 90% lettuce of greens of some variety. A few pieces of protein, I have to get ones with meat, because im still starving after the vegetarian ones. The sandwiches, however, are quite delicious and actually filling. I just spent $13 on a salad that was barely edible. There were pieces of brown lettuce throughout and the chicken was so tough, I couldnt even eat it. I feel sick to my stomach now. I really like them when I first time come here but last time I went there I asked the server to put medium sauce she put a loooot. One of the best salads I've had. The line is looooonnnnggggg but if you just grab one of their pre-made boxed salads they let you go straight to the register instead of having to wait for all the people who want a custom salad. Some may ask "Isn't paying $10 for a salad a little ridiculous?" I usually would say yes, but here not only are the salads delicious but they're organic, packaged in biodegradable corn plastic, and overall sustainable. So if your feeling guilty about pollution or have alot of money this would be a good place to go. read more

I've now adopted a new name for this establishment from someone else who labeled this place " MIXT WEEDS" it takes A LOT for me to haul my butt to yelp to review something, but if there is good reason (like the fact mixt greens customer service sucks), then i'll write one and send it to all my friends. there was a time when i used to go to mixt greens daily. what's a big deterrent is that mixt is always packed with tons of people waiting to get a salad. that's a good thing mind you for any business. i'm giving mixt greens one star for the guys who work behind the counter serving up the salad (except for as someone else mentioned the 'skimpy guy'. BUT, i'm subtracting four stars (one star each) from mixt greens for the poor customer service, skimpy guy, expensive salads and especially mixt's horrible stamp card program. HERE'S MY POINT (X marks the spot or does it?): Why would you pre-print an "x" on the first salad of the mixt greens salad card, if you're just going to stamp it anyway? doesn't this count as an automatic stamp? that's what they did, yes and in fact the "owner" (that's what he called himself. what a lousy customer service guy this idiot is) did it. when i called him on it, he said he punched a different slot, but I'm pretty sure i looked at it several times before i turned it in for what i thought would be my free salad day. and it's not like mixt green salads are cheap. at $10/each, to get a free one you'll have to spend $100. well i'm not the brightest one out there, but to illustrate my point, i had 9 stamps, and the "x" on the card- which to me qualifies as a free mixt green salad, but the idiot stamped where the "x" was and told me to come back next time for my free salad. then he proceeded to charge me $12. Spiffy bright place for feel good greens of all sorts. I was amazed that at 1.40 pm, there was a still a good flow of patrons queuing up. The line ran like a well oiled machine with staff busily building bright & fluffy salads, packing them into neat enviro-friendly containers. They also have sandwiches on their menu. It's a bit pricey for a salad, but that's the going price for organic greenery + enviro-packaging. It's nice to have this option to eat well nearby the office. These guys hit their niche seeing the line up of FiDi workers waiting for their 'power greens.' read more

A new excuse to leave my limp leftovers at home! 5 stars for speed of service, quality of ingredients , and even the price, suprisingly (downtowners would certainly pay more for the mostly organic, uber-fresh ingredients). 3 stars for space layout--even though the ceilings are tall and the decor is much nicer than your Lee's Deli or even Napa Ranch-type places, the place seats about seven! I noticed today (sunnier and warmer than when I went last week) that they had tables out front, which will help. Otherwise, you'll have to take your lovely, healthy meal back to the desk, and that's no fun! Once you wrap your head around a $10 salad or sandwich, this is definitely one of the best spots for lunch in Fidi. They have the freshest ingredients and quite a jaw dropping variety of toppings. (Seriously, who keeps hearts of palm, quinoa, fennel, golden beets, etc??) Everytime I'm in the mood for a nice, crisp, healthy and filling salad this is the place to go. My favorite salad is the cobb with butter lettuce, bleu cheese, bacon, grilled chicken, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes and I can't think of everything else but everything in a handwrap. They cut the wrap in half and voila you have lunch for two. It's a really big salad as it should be since your paying $11 but its really good and fresh tasting. When they first opened they used to serve a filet mignon sandwich on acme bread that was to die for. Oh, I wish that was still on the menu! It's hard to review a salad because well, a salad...is a salad. As long as everything is fresh and the right amount of dressing is added, then you can't really go wrong. Mixt Greens has a grand selection of fresh ingredients to offer, which is great if you decide to design your own salad. While it's fun and exclusive, customizing your order gets pretty pricey! This place is not one of my top candidates for lunch in the FiDi, but it is one of the healthier ones. I must say though, their honey-mustard vinaigrette is really good. I LOVE Mixt Greens and I don't really like eating salad. Seriously - you won't find salad in my fridge at home ... maybe some fruit, but I can't really think of anything green and leafy in there. Somehow, Mixt Greens tricked me into liking salads and big portions of it. The food is expensive (totally worth it though), so I try to limit coming here to 2 times a month. I usually end up spending $15ish on lunch, a drink, and some delicious cookies. They have a frequent salad & sandwich card - after 10 you get one free! If I'm going for a salad I always order a "Make It Your Own" ... romaine, avocado, Parmesan, eggs, and cucumber with the dressing on the side. DELICIOUS! They also sell yummy cookies :) If I'm going for a sandwich, I ALWAYS get a Rooster - OMG - IT'S MONEY! Grilled chicken, sliced apple, fontina cheese, basil pesto, mixt greens, aioli, on an acme bread herb slab ... I would never have thought to put salad and fruit on a sandwich, but it is always so tasty. OMG is it lunch yet? I *droooooooooool* for the Maui Salad mainly because of it's coriander crusted seared ahi tuna, YUMMMMM! It doesn't need dressing, imo. Perfection ;) The Siam with added marinated tofu is popular with the girls at my office but I'm not a fan. The tofu is good but I wish the salad was half tofu :P I've also tried the Madison which is OK and the Loafer sandwhich was pretty good. If you like meat loaf, do it! I did it. After months of passing this location for lunch, I decided to brave the line today and try Mixt Greens out. The line was a bit out the door, and I would say I waited about 15 mins. I think this is the usual wait time for this location at lunch time (although I went around 1). I thought the service/set-up was as time efficient as possible, so kudos to the servers for getting through the crazy lunch rush everyday. There's an assortment of specialty salads, or you can create your own. I went for "the bachelor" which had flat iron steak. Yum, as a sucker for steak in my salads, I had to go for this option. I found that all the ingredients were very fresh, and the meal itself was very filling, hearty, and HEALTHY (for the most part). Will definitely visit again when I can afford to wait for lunch! A much better option than nearby SF Soup Co. and Specialty's, just not as convenient. read more

Overall, pretty good lunch spot, but lost stars for the price and the wait. I go here occasionally, but would go much more often if it was cheaper. read more

Ok, I can see why people might hate on this place. Lines out the door, pricey dishes, a salad called "the bachelor." But the fact is, I work in the FiDi and I'm a vegan. So far this is the only place I've eaten that's provided me with a meal that doesn't leave me starving again by 3:00 (or nauseous... thanks Harvest and Rowe). Unfortunately we're still paying a premium for organic food in this country, which will hopefully change someday. But for now I'm willing to pony up for environmental responsibility. I was nervous about their packaging until I found out it was all compostable. Friggin awesome! Anyway, despite the long line, it moved quickly, and their system is efficient. Favorites include: Rooster Sandwich Cobb Salad Fusion salad w/ Ahi I just keep going back...even when the line is out the door. Update: I branched out and tried the Maui Salad the other day, and it is not as good as many of the other things on the menu. Another update: The madison is descent. I LOVE these salads! The meatloaf sandwich AMAZING!!! I love that as busy as this place is at lunch time these guys ( I almost never see women working here...hmmm) they will still make special adjustments for you if you ask nicely. I get the meatloaf with roasted red pepper instead of tomato and side Cesar instead of greens (too bitter). They have a punch card if you ask for it & once you get 10 salads you get 1 free. Considering you pay $10 for a salad (granted it's HUGE and I can make 2 meals of it, still $10) it's nice :) I respect the sustainability base of this business, compostable containers (they look like plastic but they're corn :D) and organic seasonal/local food. I love Mixt Greens. The quality of the ingredients is superb and everything is delicious. My favorite salad is the Dogwood. I love that they go light on the dressing if you ask (and it really is light on the dressing, which isn't always true of other places you ask!) Yes, $10-$11 for a salad is a little ridiculous, but if you're craving something fresh and healthy, this hits the spot. Ok so I have a habit of frequenting a place that I really like and getting the same thing over, and over and I never really try anything else. But along came the temptress that is mixt greens. I come here a lot. A LOT. In fact the staff there pretty much knows me now. I seem to have become the "button girl" (this is in reference to my incredible weakness for pins. Moving right along...) I love salads. LOVE them. I was never one of those kids that refused to eat their vegetables. In fact I ate my mother's Lima beans, so when mixt greens opened I did a happy dance. I usually do the "make your own salad" but today I ventured out and tried their chicken sandwich. I had never before had a sandwich with apple in it so I thought "Why not?" Needless to say I now have a new favorite. In fact, I restrained myself from eating the other half (even though I was full I was going to eat it anyway just cause I liked it. I now know why this whole weight loss idea isn't working...) and I am saving it for after my class tonight for le dinner! I can honestly say that I've never had a bad thing here. Never. And I am picky-ms-pickstriss so that's definitely saying something. I have tried their other salads like the bachelor and all i have to say is: grilled filet mignon... hell-fricken-yes! Yummy, yummy and more yummy. I can now pig out and not feel guilty. I do sometimes still feel strange because I really do "pig out" on salad but now do it with flair! I really wanted to like this place. Having worked in midtown New York for 2 years, I would say that I'm quite familiar with the choose-your-ingredients-style salad bar. This place didn't do much to make me want to return, and I have certainly had better. I went at 1:30 on a Friday. The line was around 12 people long, which I didn't think was that bad since they had 4 people assembling salads behind the counter. 20 minutes later when I finally reached the front and ordered, the salad-tosser was quite gruff. He mumbled something that sounded like "Which dressing?" and I must have looked puzzled because he said it again. I remained puzzled, since I had already ordered one of their menu salads that comes with a certain dressing. Finally, he said "HOW MUCH DRESSING?!" Service with a smile, bro! I ordered the SIam and added the marinated tofu. The only flavor I tasted was spicy peanut. This is probably because the vegetables/fruits the salad comes with are shredded extremely finely, and the salad contains 10-12 tiny shreds of each ingredient. Literally, my 6-7 ingredient salad was 85% lettuce. I got tired of eating it since it was so much work to try to devise bites that weren't all lettuce. Other reviewers have claimed that the price is justified because of the "high-quality ingredients." Maybe, but I wonder how they are able to ascertain the quality of the ingredients without being able to taste them (or even find them amid the lettuce). Carbs are my ENEMY. My alternative "simple carbs" - SALAD. I stumble upon Mixt Greens just walking around looking for lunch options. I was curious to know why the LINE was freaking out the door. Everything is fresh and key word - CLEAN ambiance. I love their custom salads! My fav is the MAUI (but on a bed of mix greens; I hate butter lettuce too watery) comes with seared ahi tuna, mangos, avocados, tomatoes, onions, and macadamia nuts. So good and the dressing is a mango vinaigrette. Always get dressing on the side bc the salad is HUGE. In a freaking tub. No wonder they charge $12 bucks for it! I suggest the "ROOSTER" sandwich on a roll. Bc the foccacia is way too thick = CARBS the enemy! This sandwich is unique bc it has apples in it. Weird but balances with the grill chicken, pesto, fontina cheese and garlic aioli. A+ for the speed but at times the line can be intimating. Also, whatever you order again will taste exactly like the first time you tried it. I applaud the CONSISTENCY ^_^ So good but so expensive. I think this place is great for three reasons: 1) I once had a daydream about opening a salad restaurant and Mixt Greens is just what I imagined--lots of fixin's (including my favorite, corn) all mixt together! 2) Everyone who works there/goes there seem really friendly, 3) All of their to-go containers, plastic cups, and napkins are compostable. Yes, that's right--not *recyclable* but *compostable. After 6+ years of working in FiDi, I finally tried this place........ Salad selection = good. I wish they had a small menu to read while in line, instead of having to crane your neck to read the board...(hint, hint, nudge nudge) Salad taste test = okay. Produce and meat is fresh and good. Dressing was a bit bland and boring. I tried their Madison salad, which had chicken breast, potatoes, mixt greens, shaved cheese,mustard vinaigrette, pine nuts, asparagas, and I added tomatoes, which made the salad to be $11.95! My friend had their chicken caesar for $9, and she said their dressing was too light. (They offer you a choice of light, medium or regular dressing...that's good, and we both had the medium style.) Slices of wheat sourdough bread were awesome though. Service = fast, friendly and efficient. Prices = pricey for me. I would go here if I'm ever craving a particular salad...like the ahi tuna salad. There is no where else I would rather spend my lunch break then over a a bowl of Mixt Green salad. The servers at Montgomery are adorable, friendly, and always willing to make my salad dreams come true. This is a must for all you Financial District heads. I only come here on a pay day because I'm not trying to spend $11 on lunch everyday but it was soooo worth it. I've only been here once. I came at around 2pm when it wasn't so busy and there were actually tables to sit at. They still had a good selection of everything. (Not like at Focaccia around 2pm when they have jack shit.) I ordered the Filet Mignon Cheesesteak sandwich. You heard me right FILET MIGNON CHEESESTEAK SANDWICH. It was on point with every bite. The torpedo roll, the cheese, the steak...pure bliss. It disheartens me to mention that they don't serve that sandwich anymore. Sucks for you if you never experienced it. Its replacement is the Loafer, a Kobe beef meatloaf sandwich which I have yet to try. There are a ton of other salads that I need to try. If you want a different kind of salad and a big bang for your buck, have lunch here one day. read more
