    Matchata & Buko Pandan Latte
    Jenna C.

Mixed Grounds is the kind of café that feels intentionally built for community. It's street parking, so you might need to drive around a couple times when it gets busy. But the space itself is huge, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great spot to work/study in the morning. There's lots of room to spread out and settle in for a few hours. They also host live events and pop-ups. It definitely makes the space feel active and community-focused rather than just another coffee shop. Last time I went they had banh mi and Vietnamese flavor inspired cookies! Drink-wise, the buko pandan coffee was the standout. It's creamy with a nice coffee flavor and not overly sweet. The jelly at the bottom is such a fun touch and makes the last sip/bite extra enjoyable. Even my very picky dad liked it, which says a lot. I also tried the matchata (matcha + horchata). It wasn't anything mind-blowing, but you can definitely taste both flavors and the matcha quality seems solid. The chai, unfortunately, was pretty watered down. I wouldn't recommend it. Customer service was genuinely great though. Alexis helped me right away and made sure I was happy with my order, which I really appreciated. She made adjustments to the chai, and when that didn't work she had no problem replacing it with a different drink. Food-wise, the rosemary sea salt bagel was really solid. They also had other baked treats that looked great, but I didn't get to try them this time. Overall, Mixed Grounds is less about just grabbing coffee and more about the vibe. It's spacious, welcoming, and clearly designed as a place for people to gather, work, and hang out. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

Quite a cool and funky coffee shop with very interesting seating. Has a lot of space and is very spread out. Good place to post up if you're trying to work for a while on a laptop. They've got some unique drinks that you won't really see anywhere else, so I definitely give them props for standing out! I went with the Pandan latte which is one of my favorite flavors lately. The taste was pretty good, but it was very very sweet, and really lost the coffee taste. Would like to go back and try out a more neutral espresso drink and see how the flavor of the espresso itself is. Also got a cardamom bun which has been one of my favorite Scandinavian treats. But honestly, it really didn't taste much of cardamom at all, and it has a maple glaze on top which really drowns out any other flavor. It's a bit on the dry side too. It's kinda like an ikea cinnamon roll, nothing too exciting. I think the atmosphere + cool selection of drinks definitely makes up for it though, enough for me to definitely be interested in coming back!

The hype about this spot had me curious -- drinks, live music, dance classes... I dig it. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE Parking: Street parking. It can get busy, so come early and give yourself time to find a spot. Seating: Indoor seating plus some outdoor patio space. Pretty spacious overall -- probably room for around 50 people. Vibes: Feels like the warm-up to North Park -- a mix of bars and eateries nearby. The café itself shares space within the apartment complex, which makes it feel dynamic and alive. There are often events happening: live DJs, open mic nights, dance classes -- you name it. The aesthetics are eclectic: sofas, lounge chairs, photos of iconic musicians, and even glimpses of office or gym space nearby. It's an interesting blend, but it works. Great place to socialize, chill, or get some work done while still feeling part of something. FOOD / DRINKS Guava Matcha Latte (Modified) - Recommend Usually this drink is coffee-based, but I was happy they offered a matcha variation. Visually, the layered green and pink tones were pleasing. Flavor-wise, the guava softened the earthy matcha and added a subtle sweetness that made it more approachable without overpowering it. Smooth, balanced, and fun. SERVICE I believe her name was Mel -- friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Great energy. TL;DR OVERALL 5 Stars. Wonderful spot. Good flavors, reasonable prices, and consistently great vibes. I appreciate that there's always something happening here. If you're someone who likes to be productive but still enjoy an active, creative environment, this place hits. Wishing Kwa and the Mixed Grounds team continued success. TIPS: * Check their IG for upcoming events.

I love many things about this coffee shop. The musical theme sits well with me. They have art displayed of well known musicians, instruments on the walls and they have a monthly calendar of live music from DJ's to concerts. A DJ played cool tunes while visiting. The seating options are diverse and plentiful with patio seating, high chairs along a counter with indoor/outdoor space and lounge type seating inside. The spaces are also dog friendly, which is an added bonus. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We had a tasting of a specialty beverage "Ca Phe Muoi" from their menu, along with some assorted creams puffs from a the local Korean Bakery Mon Chourie...I am in love with both! They also have vendors who have additional food offerings on the patio, this day it happened to be tacos and nachos. There was a large group scrapbooking, so they do support community activities. The parking can be difficult on busy days so plan ahead. Enjoy! #MixedGrounds #UniversityHeights #CaPheMuoi #LiveMusic

I tried the seasonal guava latte and was so excited for it but the guava syrup tasted like cinnamon and not like the fruit at all. I also am not a fan of warm spices so that was disappointing. My friend tried the cold brew tonic and also didn't like that it was more ok the bitter side and you couldn't really taste the cherry flavor. The inside of the place was huge and had tons of seating with a dj playing live music. It was a great event and a fun vibe I would go back to try the Vietnamese coffee.

Went to Mixed Grounds Coffee today and honestly loved it. I got the horchata latte and my boyfriend ordered the Ca Phe Muoi. My horchata latte was a little sweet, but not nearly as sweet as his. I'm not usually into super sweet coffee drinks, but mine was still really delicious. He absolutely loved his and would 100% order it again. A fun bonus is that dogs are allowed inside which isn't normally the case. We split the bacon and egg empanada and it was fantastic. Super flavorful and perfectly cooked. The people working there were incredibly friendly and kind, which always makes the experience better. The space itself is even cooler in person. It feels like a spot you actually want to hang out in, not just grab coffee and leave. They're open until 10pm most nights, and Friday through Sunday they have live music. They also serve beer and wine and host food pop ups, which is such a fun bonus. We'll definitely be back, especially for a music night.

I love this place! The vibes are great, they have Dj's that play good music and it's a great place to hangout. They allows pets (I always bring my dogs) and have dog snacks. They also have a table where you could paint and color. Great place I highly recommend this place! Me and my friends come study here.

Went to visit the place with the girls. The place looks so hip, trendy, as well as relaxing. Very spacious but inviting. We went on a Saturday. There was a taco vendor setting just right before the entrance for the cafe. Staff were very nice, greeted us with a warm smile. Shout out to Kwa, owner, funny and friendly. Got the blueberry lime muffin brought home was a hit. Got a cup of Americano. It was smooth, balanced, and mellow. Street parking

Mixed Grounds Coffee is such a great spot to go to if you're looking for fun vibes and reasonable priced coffee! I came on a Saturday which was very fun because they had a live dj set that added to the ambiance. The interior is also very cozy with ample seating areas and lots of games the patrons can use. Ordering here was super fast and easy and the staff is all so nice. I ordered the Ca Phe Muoi and I loved it so much. The quality espresso pairs well with the cream and sea salt. Everything was perfectly balanced and delicious! I also tried the Buko Pandan special, and that was also very tasty! The buko and pandan flavors were very balanced and complimented each other well. Reminds me of an elevated halo halo, in regards to the flavor profiles! I would recommend coming here if you're in town!

Walked by this area on a Sunday and had to check it out! The place is super spacious with tall ceilings and has plenty of comfy seating for work or to hang out. We had no problem finding space to sit on Sunday morning. There's also a chess set in the corner! They have live music on the weekends and a little stage area set up for a band. Service was friendly and helpful. In terms of drinks, I got: Chai latte - syrup is made in-house and not too sweet. The spices are super flavorful and a unique mix (not your standard chai, and the unique balance of spices is really tasty!) They have whole milk, almond, and oat milk as options for the drink. Chaggaccino - a great immune boosting drink and tastes just like a mocha! They have several unique menu items as well that I'm looking forward to try next time!

I like that this coffee shop is opened later than others. The coffee itself is decent. Would give it a 7/10 as it was a little too watery for my liking.

The place is spectacular! Space has monthly events and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Comfy seating. The staff were really helpful and nice. Coffee was nothing special it was a standard coffee. I love the vibe so I'd come back. I lucked out with parking right in front but fyi to those who aren't as lucky.. it can be tricky. Located under new apartments complex.

Love it! Came here around 9am and got myself their iced buko pandan special and their bacon/egg/cheese empanada. Right when I walked in, I was immediately greeted and acknowledged, which I did appreciate (the lil things haha). They also made sure to check-in with me for any adjustments needed after I got my drink. As for the items I ordered, I enjoyed everything about their iced buko pandan drink--it had the perfect amount of sweetness to it--and their empanada! Empanada had the perfect amount of flavor and crunch, I'm definitely going to go back another time to try their chorizo (or soyrizo?) option. I was at Mixed Grounds for about an hour and I did notice that the space does get busy quick after 9:30am. It eventually got somewhat loud inside with the music playing, but I didn't mind cause I had my AirPods in and I wasn't able to hear much unless if I took it out. Overall, a solid place to relax, meet up with a friend (also very dog-friendly), and unwind in North Park. The only thing that will require some more patience is the parking situation (since it's obviously in the busier side of town), but I had no issues parking a block away. I'll for sure be back!

Parking is a bit of a pain bit of you are in waking distance or come early enough it shouldn't be an issue. Sometimes they run out of items if you come later in the day. They have a special Bagel of the month, so make sure to ask what it is. They have several bagel flavors, and different flavor cream cheese spreads. I love the habanero bagel, it's one of my favorites, but just be warned it is very hot. Definitely don't eat it without something cold to drink. They also have a breakfast sandwich called the San Diego which is a favorite of several people I know. You chose the bagel you want it with and they add fried eggs, bacon, cheese and aioli. I highly reccomend it. I've not had a lot of their deinis, but i did order the cinna-bee which has honey, cinnamon, espresso and milk. I thought it was good and would order it again. Definitely check them out and try some of their bagels, or perhaps one of their sandwiches.

The espresso quality was top-tier, and the drinks were made quickly without sacrificing flavor. Our only regret? Discovering this place halfway through the trip. Had we found it sooner, we would've been there every single day. This review is solely based on the coffee, as we didn't get a chance to try their breakfast sandwiches, though the options looked appetizing. This particular location isn't a fully built-out coffee shop, but it's perfect for grabbing your drink and taking a stroll along Seaport Village or, enjoying it at a nearby bench or outdoor seating area.

Oh Nomad Donuts how I love you. This place is a local gem that offers craft donuts, breakfast…read moresandwiches, and fun rotating drinks. My favorite part of the start of a new month is checking their monthly drink and donut specials. This month nothing really called my name but they did have a weekend special that really appealed to me. I have had some of their bagel style sandwiches before and ohhhh goodness they are good. This time it was my favorite style of sandwich, a bahn mi. I had high hopes because of the picture they posted on their social media and just the level of creativity they usually bring. Considering it's North Park, I knew ordering online would be the best option and picking up. My estimated time was 15-20 minutes but it only took them under 10. I got an order ready notification before I even left the house. I got there and it was dead, maybe one other person in and out. There's a lot of seating inside and some outside on their patio. They also have different counters for ordering and pick up which helps speed things up. My experience with service was very transactional, nothing bad just nothing to really highlight. Let's talk about this bahn mi. It's promoted as marinated and charred pork shoulder, house made sweet aioli, nuoc cham compound butter, pickled carrot and daikon, mint, cilantro, and jalapeño on a locally sourced Paris baguette. First off, nuoc cham compound butter?? YES. That is the kind of creativity I love to see. I got my sandwich and the wrapper was pretty oily so the sandwich itself looked kind of glossy. The whole thing felt a little rushed, like everything was just thrown on. I will say I wasn't expecting a generous amount of meat but they delivered in that aspect. I first wanted to try the compound butter on its own and it had a slight nuoc cham flavor, but in the sandwich it didn't really stand out past all the bolder flavors. Now if you've seen my other reviews, the best part of a bahn mi to me is the pickled daikon and carrots. These might be the best I have ever had anywhere. They are exactly how I prefer them, sweet with a slight acidity and THICK CUT. The crunch on these... please let me buy a whole jar. The bread was alright, they mention they source it locally so it's not made in house, but mine leaned a little old and I could tell through the texture. The pork was marinated really well, I do wish some of the pieces were more charred because you could see where some of it didn't hit direct flame. This also came with a side of what tasted like a hoisin vinaigrette. I liked the creativity but felt like the sandwich didn't need it. It was way too acidic and strong and there's not much need for that sharp vinegar hit here. I paired my bahn mi with a miso caramel matcha latte. This was expensive, a 12oz for $8 is steep even for matcha. It was good but not amazing. It leans more sweet than matcha forward. The miso caramel actually surprised me though. At other cafes it usually comes off more like a salted caramel, but here it had more depth, slightly savory, and when mixed with the milk it came out really creamy and smooth. The matcha was a little grainy though. Overall I will definitely be back and will keep my eye out for more specials because that's where they really shine. And seriously, if they ever let me buy those pickled carrots and daikon by the jar, I'm there immediately.

Another north Park neighborhood joint. I come here for when I'm feeling for a bagel and smear -…read moresomething quick and on the go. Love that there's a patio area to enjoy, and if you have a dog, it's a perfect spot for both of you to enjoy. Note - dogs aren't allowed inside (unless they are a service animal). I've gotten the salmon gravlax, which is pretty solid, but I add extra capers cream cheese, as the original order doesn't slather it on. WORTH it tho. I'd probably try it with an add on of tomato the next time. The ice strawberry matcha is pretty good too. Overall, it's a pretty cool spot for a quick bite!
