    California breakfast sandwich
    Cherise A.

I was looking for a place very early in the morning to grab a quick bite to eat before I started my day. I am new to the area and stumbled upon this place.. The service was great. The ambience was very calming. I had ordered the California breakfast sandwich and it was good along with the coffee . I would return based off the customer service. The young man that was helping me was very nice and the speed of service was on point.

It's really cool how each Lestat's location is themed after a vampire first off. Additionally, the service is super great. The baristas are really laid back and always have great stories to tell. I also love this coffee they sell, funky monkey. By far my favorite drink there paired with the avocado toast with egg. Great spot for studying too, it gets busy at time but it's definitely worth spending time there.

The staff is always friendly. My cup had more foam than latte the last time I was here but always a good spot to come and read a book or work/study

Service 5 stars. Ambiance: very cozy and spacious but kinda grundgy. Not bad just is what it is. If you 're trying to get work done or do some late night studying, I think it's a good place to put your head down and just crank out some work. Coffee: I love their coffee selection! I tried the Irish monkey and it was delicious. I forgot to ask for oat milk so I think I'll feel this later lol but still worth purchasing. Extensive selection and lots of different alternatives Lorraine frittata: I was really excited about but....sad to say it was pretty dry. Very this frittata (great, give me sustenance) but so dry. Not sure if it's always like this but I probably wouldn't try it again. I would just come here for coffee and eat other food next time. Will definitely be back though!

Their coffee is sooo good! The first time I tasted the Mexican mocha was hot and the second time I tried it was cold and both times were just as good honestly. Their service is also pretty good and fast plus they provide free WiFi and water. This is the perfect spot for students or anyone who wants to get some laptop work done to come get focused. I love their ambiance!

Rating: 8/10 One of the better studying spots in San Diego due to it being open 24 hours. Decor is an interesting hodge-podge of chairs, furniture and lighting. There are a good amount of tables, but don't underestimate how busy it can get during finals week! We got here at around 8:30 on a Tuesday. Parking is metered street only on a dark street, and you may have to park pretty far away to find one. We got in and noticed how busy it was. Music wasn't too loud because everyone is studying inside. It was pretty warm inside as well, which lowkey made me feel a bit dizzy after sitting there for an hour. We ordered drinks after we chose a table. 1) Iced London Fog with Sugar Free Vanilla: 7/10. It was good and just sweet enough but it wasn't my favorite coffee shop drink that I've had. Good to sip on while studying. 2) Hot Dirty Chai Latte: 8/10. This was my friend's drink and I thought it was really good! The first sips are creamy and filled with cinnamon (I think), and there is an underlying aftertaste of espresso. Next time I come here, this is the one I'll be getting! Service is great and attentive. The staff is always walking around looking to clean tables. Overall, I would come back if I was looking for a studying spot for some hardcore studying!

Is there a study/meeting room we can reserve? How big is the room?

No there isn't, but you can try a public library.

    Is this place dog friendly?

I've seen dogs inside, but usually the owners are just ordering coffee and they end up sitting outside.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it.
