Found this cute little cafe and we had a party of 12 and they allowed us to combine some tables and all sit together. The food is outstanding and the açaí bowls are made fresh. The coffees are so delicious and difficult to decide what to get. The service is great and they go above and beyond! A must try coffee shop.

I really wanted to like this place! To start with the positives, the staff was so incredibly friendly and kind. Even with a long line, they greeted everyone with a smile and were attentive and caring. Meraki is located on Adams, so it's just far enough to avoid the chaotic feeling of Park Blvd, but close enough to all the action. The space appears cute, but is a little shabby chic. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We posted up on the outdoor patio at one of the tables that had an umbrella shading it. If you're hoping to get any work done here, wifi is spotty and unreliable, so I would not depend on it. I ordered a matcha latte and a bagel sandwich. Unfortunately, both were not good. The matcha latte had more of a green tea taste than matcha and did not taste good. The bagel sandwich also was more quantity than quality. The bagel was thick but dry and doughy. I gave up on both items after a few bites and sips. It's a nice spot to meet up with friends and I noticed a lot of small groups gathering here. Unfortunately, the food and beverage just weren't quite it for me.

This is a good neighborhood place with a big space and garden in the back. Service was good, even though a man stepped in front of me as I was ordering to return his coffee. (He said that the milk was sour. ) I am not sure how to handle people who cut in front of me like this. The salad was surprising, only because it didn't have lettuce. Recently a friend told me that traditional Mediterranean salads don't have lettuce. The portion was very big. I would have liked more cucumbers and fewer olives and tomatoes.

I've never been to Merkai Cafe before and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. The outside building looks small, but inside they have ample seating areas. It's bright with colors of a light teal and pink with black and white tile flooring. It reminded me of cotton candy! Personally, I would have loved to see the color from their logo (sage green or something) reflected on the walls. It would have gave less of a circus fun house vibe. In addition, they have a nicely sized outdoor patio with the cutest mural in the back corner. The workers are very kind and friendly. I ordered the $6 Pistachio Honey Latte, 12 oz, Hot-- for here. I thought they would use pistachio butter, but I believe they used a pistachio syrup (not housemade). The first sip was good and I got more of honey notes than pistachio. As I got to the middle of the mug, I could really taste the pistachio but it's more of an artificial taste. Overall, this was an okay latte, just fell short of execution. I wouldn't get it again, since it was REALLY sweet. I would have loved to have a bit of a salty factor-- similar to when you'd eat a pistachio from the shell. I'd probably go for their lavender latte as that was my second choice! My friend got the $6, Hot, White Mocha for here as well. He said it was delicious and great temperature. Overall, the prices are pretty fair especially for a latte with syrups in it. But I think, it would be even better of a cafe if they made their own syrups! That would take this place up another notch. On a Sunday, in the morning they weren't very busy. But by late noon, the place was filled with people studying, working (laptops) and people that bike. I'd recommend coming early for the best experience!

Pros: - SO cute inside. Spacious, plenty of seating, really nice outdoor patio. I could see this being a great spot for studying/working - Staff were super friendly - Coffee was good and great location in University Heights - They also had a little table with poems you could grab which I thought was a really nice touch Cons: - The food is really quite bad lol. We ordered the bagel sandwich and acai bowl and both were crazy disappointing. Honestly didn't significantly impact the experience since I liked the vibes so much but won't be ordering food again.

Salmon Toast

The salmon toast was great, though I wish they gave more of the balsamic sauce instead of the small drizzle they gave on the plate (even though it made the presentation beautiful). I would like to try their açaí bowls the next time I come back! Service was great, there is a counter in the front where you pay and they give you a buzzer to come back when your food is ready. There is indoor and outdoor seating, the indoor seating is perfect for studying, while the outdoor patio gives cute brunch vibes. While it's street parking in the front, in the next street behind the cafe, there is a parking lot on a residential street with plenty of parking.

We came about an hour before closing and people were still trickling in. They ran out of avocado, waffles, and had a limited amount of pastries. I ended up choosing the gyro sandwich an açaí bowl, and a matcha latte. My hubby got the turkey brie sandwich and I liked his more! Both sandwiches came with chips! His Tropics smoothie was very refreshing! I liked sitting outside in the patio, although it was a bit chilly. Don't forget to grab free poetry by the counter!

@merakicafesd one of the cutest cafe on @adamsavesd that you enjoy your morning at, the backyard sitting is co cozy, you feel the morning breeze nicely. They do have variety of fresh choices and my fav was the oat meal, it melts easily with the cinnabon taste

Outdoor mural

I'll be honest, I've passed by this place many times and never gave it a shot because the outside looks so unassuming. I'm glad I finally went inside because it's very spacious and the interior styling looks great! I had the aloha latte which was sweet and coconut-y and the nutty açaí! Both items were delicious!

Large Cappuccino

Cute homely cafe with indoor and outdoor patio - not only do they have coffee but also a selection of açaí bowls, sandwiches, and salads. I've had the coffee here and it's not bad but there are definitely more sophisticated spots serving better nearby in north park, but I think this place is nice because of the lunch/ food options. Food: Chicken pesto - delicious! Would def get again Spinach salad - great presentation, would recommend adding a protein.

I've been wanting to come to Meraki Cafe for years now! I was happy to have passed by on my walk through the neighborhood. The staff were incredibly kind. They are dog friendly. They have indoor + nook/outdoor seating. It's an ideal spot to study at or get work done. I ordered an aloha latte with almond milk - this was soooo delicious. You can taste the coconut. I'd get it again! I also got a chicken pesto sandwich on sourdough which was also delicious. I'd love to try more of their menu soon.

Christopher G.

Great coffee shop with relaxing vibes and plenty of seating options inside and outside, both in the front AND a great backyard patio. The menu here was delicious and had just what we needed to tide us over while waiting for some laundry to finish. Also got some work done here in peace and quiet. Will definitely be returning!

Classic Acai

I ordered the classic açaí and it was great. The barista was so kind. Such a nice and cute place with indoor/outdoor seating, also a clean bathroom.

I heard they're going to start serving beer and wine soon as well! *Best 1st-timer options*: The Keeper (if you like it spicy) or the L.G.B.T. My favorite hot sandwiches are the Cali Cubano, B3, and The Keeper, while my favorite cold sandwiches are the Avocado Highway, L.G.B.T. (lettuce, gouda, bacon, tomato), and Caprese. My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

I came in and immediately the woman working in the front I could tell was rude and radiating negative energy. I am witnessing a common theme about this with many of the other people who have left negative reviews about this establishment. You guys also seem to reply and pretend like you resolve the issue but there have been multiple review follow-ups where people claim you guys do not actually make up for the horrible service. Anyway, I walk in and immediately I have to wait a long time to order and I can tell that the guy in front of me has been there a while already. Finally, I place my order and the lady is so awfully rude. Every answer I had for her questions made me feel that I had done something wrong even though I was very nice and just there for a simple thing: to get a sandwich. I usually greet people and ask how they are doing but she got directly to business. I understand that she was busy but she was immediately unwelcoming. "What kind of bread would you like?" (I do not see the bread on the menu when I immediately look up so I reply, "white (I will admit there are many different types of bread but I did not know what they have and usually when I order somewhere I just say white and they know what I am talking about or politely ask for clarification) *she rolls her eyes* "french, sourdough, Dutch?" Then, she asked me if I wanted lettuce and tomato. I replied, "just lettuce please" and again she makes me feel dumb for just ordering. I ask if the sandwich comes with mayonnaise because it was not listed but there were additional items on it and she says that they do not have mayonnaise but another sauce as if mayonnaise is a crazy request. "Can I get a name for the order?" "Jessica" "Jessica?" like my name is ugly or something and not like she could not hear me. At this point I am picking apart everything that she uttered but seriously such an unhappy woman with no hospitality skills. Trust me on this and either experience it yourself or read some other 1-star reviews if you do not believe me. She then walked away as I was still paying so I could not even ask for a receipt or anything. This was essentially the extent of my direct experience with the woman in the front but I witnessed more things happening to other customers while I was waiting for my sandwich for a really long time. Apparently an order kept getting rung up and people kept coming in trying to pick it up but it had already been picked up and the woman would say "communicate this. someone already picked it up" with a huge attitude like it was their fault there was a glitch in the system. I also took notice that there was a big order for 4:30 and when the order was finished, one of the male workers went over and served himself a drink from the soft drinks dispenser and when he was handing the woman all of the many bags, he took a break to take a drink out of his cup. I think it also important that I add she had already been given 5-6 bags and was caring a lot and he was not coughing and desperately needed water and I do not even think there was water in the cup. I will also say though that all of the customers waiting were very friendly and understanding that they were busy and I am too but there was no reason to be rude and lack the principles of basic costumer service. I work with people too and we all have bad days but by the looks of these other reviews, this is a very common occurrence. I am glad people are willing to speak up about this. Another thing I noticed was that apparently someone's order was not in the system and they made the person feel so bad for it and that it was their fault except with all of these problems, it is highly likely that this could have been the establishment's fault but they never even entertained this. I might also add that the woman that took my order when she was making sandwiches I saw her cough into her hands (no gloves mind you) and then grab the *at least it was* wrapped sandwich and put it in the bag. I wanted to try this place because it was close to my campus and I will say that the sandwich tasted good but it was nowhere near worth the horrible aura I experience while being at Ike's. I will surely never spend another dime at Ike's and encourage my friends to not support a business that does not prioritize cleanliness and kindness. Even when they packed up my order, the same man who was taking sip breaks handing a woman her order, was throwing my stuff together and gave me a tiny bag when he saw I was also holding my chips and drink. That was not very thoughtful if you ask me but I would not expect thoughtfulness after what I had already endured from this sandwich joint. I think Ike's would benefit from a personality change and should consider improving their warmth and helpful nature.
