    - live music was extremely loud (way too loud) but the vibe is very chill. No one is dancing - accused of having a fake (I don't) when leaving (??) - outside a cockroach fell on my shoulder and I will never recover - $10 cover . cheap drinks

Surprisingly disappointing. I had been working late so a little pause and something to drink sounded like a delightful way to wrap up the night. I walked in and thought "This place looks pretty cool." The background music was awesome, I liked the interior and there were lots of people talking and enjoying themselves. I ordered one of my favorite drinks, a rum and Coke and ....it tasted terrible! It was really a horrible drink. And then the band took the stage. They were so shockingly, overwhelmingly loud that I absolutely had to leave. I chugged the drink and walked out. Not exactly the best first impression.

best bar matt the guy all bartenders ar vibibing plus thay carry my favorite beer and make a mean gin and tonic

A perfect local haunt. My go-to for ultra affordable drinks, a great jukebox, and accessible billiards. You can't go wrong.

Ask the Community - Black Cat Bar

Sounds like the music is great at the Black Cat Bar, but is dancing allowed? Seems a shame to waste great music sitting in a chair.

Dancing is expected. Stay off the pool tables.

What's the name of the band that plays here once a month? They play country tunes like Lefty Frizzell and Hank Williams.

    Maybe G. Burns Jug Band.

What time is food available here daily?

    6am

There's a few booths as soon as you enter and a handful of high top tables. Theres more than enough room to dance if you choose to and there is a pool table in the middle of the bar. There is a back area and the door to exit to it looks like you'll set off the alarm. But you'll be fine. There's about seating / standing room in the back which can fit about 20-30 people comfortably I think. There was about 10 people there when I went on a Thursday night around midnight. Lots of locals and some of them introduced themselves when they saw our group and knew this was our first time. Didn't eat here. Don't know if they serve food. Maybe during the day they do. I'd come back again. It wasn't the strongest of drinks and the well drinks tasted terrible but... vibes were on point and friendly people and that's half the reason why I go out.

Regardless, it is generally a great place to catch a show. Through the years, I have seen many great shows here including Flogging Molly, The Shins, Prince, Interpol, and many others. I hadn't been in a couple years, but last week my husband and I went to see The Human Leave, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet (Yaz). It was an incredible show. Starting out, there are a few things that I dislike about the venue. First, because it is on a college campus, parking can be difficult and you are basically forced into the $30 paid parking garage. Also, I was suffering from a recent sports injury, making the trek across campus to the theater a bit of a task. In the past, the lines for swag and drinks have been nearly impossible, though, this time, they were much improved. Finally, the trek to the ladies' room is a bit far depending on your seat. Also, it is not a large restroom and the line goes slowly, However, it is clean. On the flip side, there are a lot of positive points to this venue. The location is generally decent as it is not far from town. Despite the crowds coming in for shows, it doesn't take too long to get in and out of the parking lots. The event staff consists of many college students working concessions or ushering, and they are very friendly. It is really a nice, open, outdoor, relaxing venue. There is not a bad seat in the house (as many other reviews state). I have been in front, in back, and in the middle. I have been able to see and hear the show very well from each of my seats. It has also been my experience that the crowd has been generally a well-behaved, polite group, though I guess you can't alway count on that. All in all, it is a great place to catch a show, especially during the beautiful San Diego summer months.

Great sound. Don't think there is a bad seat but come for the music, not the drinks or food…read more The downside are the concession options...they could elevate the choices. Crappy nachos and bags of not fresh popcorn??? Seriously? No full bar, just canned cocktails. In 2025 Truly canned drinks are $18 and Kirkland water is $5. A little silly.
