The Library Tavern is the spot for APA League events. We go on Monday nights and a good time is always had. Gilly is a great bartender and Tony is a great host/owner. The bar is well equipped to handle numerous APA teams throughout the week. They have great hours, opening after lunch and through the night to the wee hour of the morning. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at this bar. I know the batender's names and I genuinely liked this place. Tonight they accused me of calling a woman a bad name which I absolutely did not do. She was taking a pool table from some college students and I asked why and that was it. She complained to the bartender and lied, so he tried to lecture me about name calling. I did not use a name at all. I literally just asked her why she was claiming a table and then leaving to vape. There was no negative interaction. But I guess they care about their own and none other. This was an absolutely insane interaction I couldn't believe happened. Don't go here. From the remodel and how bright it is inside, you can tell the owners have absolutely no idea what they are doing. First off. It is so bright in there you would think you're at the mall shopping. If you were to pick up on someone here, boy you know what they look like as you can see them clearly from clear across the bar room. Secondly, carpet throughout the whole bar is a #1 no, no. The bartender was incredibly rude and refused to admit he was wrong. I was a regular customer that won't be coming back anymore.

Have been going here for the past month and there was no problem with service. Then this week, started getting an attitude from Dianne, one of the bartenders. Very rude and unprofessional, treating me like 3rd rate citizen. I had asked for water and all other times, all other bartenders serve water from bar gun with ice, without seeming put out. This time, no ice, she just pointed over to the water cooler and told me to get it from over there. Other times I attempted to ask for ice, she didn't look or speak to me directly, instead of saying "you" said, "she." In the meantime she was busy throwing back several shots as she's working. (Normally, I could care less what the bartender does, its their business. But when they're disrespectful to me, then I will take notice.) Then to top it off, she served other customers water with ice right in front of us as we were sitting in front of bar gun. When I didn't tip her, she made sure to mention it upon our next visit. Tips are to be earned, not blindly expected. I usually tip between $5-10 anytime I go, but I can only afford to give that much as my budget isn't very much at this time. Again, she acted put out as if she had been doing us a favor by getting our waters instead of making us go to other side of bar to get to cooler. Overall very dissatisfied with her behavior. I have met many other bartenders that may have had bad day, bad weekends, etc, but they still remain professional and don't treat the customer poorly. That level of immaturity would be expected from a high schooler, not someone who is in this profession. If I go back to Library on her shift, unless I see significant change in her behavior and a direct apology to me, I won't be giving her tips. Instead will tip bartenders who have earned it. read more

If you want to buy some frozen pizza that's popped in the microwave, that's the main food you can buy. Went on a Sunday Night at 1145 after reding they were open til 1. 2 guys 2 girls walked in with me. 2 people sitting at the bar and 1 person plaing pool. Bartender says he "just closed out the registers" . Obviously, I am upset and say. "yelp" will love this. He offers us to come back to sell us "shots only". Sorry man, if you don't want to exchange money for alcohol you're in the wrong business. If you want to close early so you can drink with your friends bring on another bartender. Closing an hour before your websites time and posted time is pretty uncool. Closing two hours before California's legally sanctioned time is Effing Lame. In conclusion. Hands down the best "local bar" in San Diego. I've been a regular here for over seven years and I plan on being one for a lot longer than that. If you like the club scene, this place isn't for you. If you like stong, cheap drinks, good beer on tap, pool, darts, foosball, and lots of football on the big screens then this is your place to hang out. The bartenders are friendly, the ownership is great and the crowd is a mix of young to middle aged and as unpretentious as it gets. And the juke box is awesome with an eclectic mix of tunes (Black Eyed Peas fans need not apply). If you're a football junkie then The Library should be your go to destination every Sunday of the NFL season. Five reasons for this: 1. NFL Sunday Ticket on 15-20 HD screens, plus a bunch of other small TV's. 2. Free Chorizo and all the toppings for the morning games. 3. Drink specials 4. Free pool all day 5. $12 for three beers. $0.75 pool games. Doesn't get much better than that. This little dive bar located in a strip mall in San Diego was just what we needed. The three of us were looking for a fun night out where we can just relax with a beer and play some "friendly" games of pool with one another. By the time we finished dinner in the city that night, we were all ready to call it a night, but The Library proved to be too much of a curiosity for the group. It was only a five minute drive from where we were staying that night, and since the name was so cool, we thought we'd give it a try. Place is uber-clean and has lots of cool things to do -- pool, jukebox, darts... and drinking, of course. The locals seem to love it a lot. Beer and liquor selection was pretty good for a bar of that size. Not too busy at all when we arrived... around 9:30pm on a Saturday night. The drinks are inexpensive, the people are friendly and laid-back, and the place is clean and re-done with lots of flat-screens showing sports. This place rocks! The Library is a large, casual sports bar, with lots of TV's, pool tables and excellent drink specials. Also - three small bathrooms (which is key for a weak-bladdered drinker like myself). It's located northbound on Mission Gorge Road - just before you reach Mission Trails Park, tucked inside the back corner of the Jack in the Box parking lot. No need to dress up; I usually wear jeans, a tank top and flip flops. Also, I can't remember the last time my tab was more than $30, and I usually make a NIGHT of it! On Sundays during football season they bring in chorizo, tortillas, fresh salsa, beans, etc. and make a MEAN bloody Mary. But my favorite Library event is no-cover New Year's Eve... where they go all out with a DJ, party hats and poppers, leis and free-flowing (after midnight - free - if you can track it down) champagne. Came here for a bit the other night with two of my guy friends. We played some pool and listened to some tunes. The place is large with a few tables and other games like fooze ball. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly. Drinks are cold and strong. Music is loud and diverse... It is a nice change of pace from some of the other east county bars. It is kind of in an industrial area of Allied Gardens but just over the hill from Santee, we will be making this a staple in our bar rotation! read more

Decided to check this place out due to all the good reviews. Went to watch Sunday morning football games. Experienced the free breakfast, free build your own chorizo burritos from a local taco shop I suppose, not made there. I don't think they serve food or are equipped with a kitchen. Bloody Mary was the worst I have had, watered down and flavorless. Stuck with champagne and some fireball shots the rest of the time. Prices on drinks are fair, but how fair are they if you don't want to drink them. The majority of patrons are Steelers fans. They make up half a bar and commandeer a large number of TV's to watch their one game. They are loud, obnoxious and reek of cigarettes from their regular 10 minute smoke breaks. I came here after a coworker invited me to come watch her play pool. I was very pleased at how awesome and nice everyone was it was like everyone had known me forever. Drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders are generous. I dont play pool but i enjoy hanging out with all the people there while they play. You have a very large mix of people it is more of an older crowd. (considering im 22) But i love it and thats more my crowd anyways. So.... you never really know how things are going to turn out when you go to a neighborhood/dive bar for the first time... You might run into to the local drunk/ or A-hole. You might not be accepted by the "Bar locals" I was plesently surprised with how accepted i felt walking into this very exstablished local hangout. No ugly eye's from the bikers, or the young hip crowd, or the seasoned bartender. Just nice people and good drinks. It would be nice if they chilled their beer mugs. :) Lot's of pool tables, Dart Boards, good downloadable jukebox (if they let you play it). This a cool local bar tucked in the corner of a nondescript strip mall. It looks like is might be a dive from the outside, but once you get it side it is pretty decent. They have a bunch of pool tables and a couple of dart boards. The drinks should be a little cheaper, but the bartenders and regulars are pretty cool. The music is decent most of the time and they have a bunch of TVs where you can check out the Chargers or the Padres. They get a good mix of people on the weekends (old fat dudes, some young people, and people in their thirties). This is a decent alternative if you live is Mission Valley and you don't want to deal with BS of heading downtown. read more

As a resident of San Carlos I have passed by this bar for years. Many of my childhood friends live nearby and upon us turning 21 we have gone here on occassion why? I guess the proximity to home. It is in the same strip mall as 7-11 where tweaker employee will always ask if im headed over to the library. Its not that exciting. Mostly an older crowd. They have pool table, darts and wii. They have pints of a select beer that changes monthly for $2 and usually its pretty decent. A good deal if you want to stop by for a beer or a pitcher with friends.
