Got a paloma and the flavor was more intense than I expected, but it was pretty good. Tater tots are nice and crispy, great texture. Aside from that, they're generic normal tasting tater tots. For the burger, I liked the bun and other ingredients, but thought the savoriness of the meat was just okay. Also, can't say I'm a huge fan of the tiny lettuce whenever I see it. Overall, this joint is not bad, but I can think of very little about it that stands out. I don't feel that it fully leans into being a sports bar or dive bar or even as a burger joint. It's just.....a bar. Apparently, it prides itself as being an original coronado spot, but I didn't get that kinda vibe here. I don't know. read more

Captain's Log, Stardate 21483 This past Sunday, I charted a course to Nicky Rottens in Coronado, a delightful establishment located at the end of Orange Avenue. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite. The burgers are truly out of this world--juicy, flavorful, and expertly crafted to ensure a warp-speed experience with every bite. You'll find that each dish is prepared with precision, as if overseen by a skilled chef with the abilities of a Vulcan and the passion of a true culinary Starfleet officer. In conclusion, Nicky Rottens is a prime destination for anyone seeking a vibrant atmosphere, stunning views, and a solid meal. I can confidently say that if you ever find yourself in Coronado, this establishment is a must-visit. After all, it's just one small step for man, and one giant leap into deliciousness! I was visiting Coronado with my wife as she had a work conference, and I was on vacation. I was feeling like getting away from my hotel to find some local food, and I walked by Nicky Rottens and thought a burger sounded right up my alley for lunch that day. The menu consists of appetizers, entree salads, big plates, char-grilled burgers, a lil champs menu, cocktails, draft beer, wine, and cans and bottles. I kept it simple as I ordered a char-grilled burger called the All-American Classic, consisting of two prime patties, seasoned with Nicky's steakhouse rub and grilled. It came with Patriotic cheese, lettuce, chopped onion, tomato, pickle, and special sauce along with a side of French fries. The special sauce was similar to a thousand island dressing, and I had that on the side. The burger was very filling and delicious along with French fries that I couldn't stop eating (until I ran out). Yum!! The staff were very friendly and helpful during my time there. I learned that Nicky Rottens considers itself to be "Coronado's Original Spot for Great Food, Good Times, and Local Flavor." It is a family-owned bar and grill right on Orange Avenue with tasty food, reasonable prices, and great service. They also consider themselves to be a "community hub grounded in American values, hard work, and a love for good food and even better company." While I went to Nicky Rottens on my own, I could see the sense of community there and certainly got some good food and service. They are open daily at 11 AM closing Sunday through Thursday at 9:30 PM and Friday and Saturday at 10 PM. I didn't notice until after I left that they even have a dog-friendly outdoor patio. They also offer catering, reservations, menus, information about private events, and an online shop all on their website (https://www.nickyrottensoncoronado.com). While I'm not on Coronado too often, I will certainly remember Nicky Rottens for my next visit! read more

Come to watch sports and drink beer, not to eat with any expectations. They Jamaican jerk burger tasted NOTHING like Jamaican jerk. The smash burger was not a smash burger by definition. SO MUCH (too much) cheese on both. The patties are so small. The buns are stiff and flat. The ribs and wings had so much sauce on them, we had to scrape most of it off. Good beer options and lots of TVs inside. read more

Nicky Rottens Bar & Burger Joint in Coronado is a fantastic spot for anyone looking for great food, cold beer, and an unbeatable view. Located right on Orange Avenue, this lively sports bar offers a casual and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a laid-back meal or catching a game with friends. The place has a fun, upbeat vibe, with TVs everywhere playing sports, making it a great hangout spot. The staff is friendly and efficient, even when the place gets busy. The beer selection is solid, featuring a mix of local craft brews and popular favorites. The Bac-Avo Burger is another standout, featuring a perfectly cooked patty with crispy bacon and avocado. The portions are generous, and the fries are the perfect side. Fish n chips was another hit. I love the lightly battered fish and crispy fries. I advise you get there early to find parking or you can take the ferry from Downtown San Diego. Whether you're here for a burger, a few drinks, or just to soak in the atmosphere, you won't be disappointed. My hubby and I will be returning and this time for their happy hour Thank you!!!! read more

You know that feeling when you went on 6 mile run and ended up in a bar? Oh no? Well that's what happened to us on Valentine's Day. Very happy that we ended up at Nicky Rottens and very glad that we ordered a round of margaritas and chicken tenders. I loved open windows layout of the bar and how spacious it was. They also sold fun t-shirts for purchase that I might be back for to get! read more

Solid spot for a quick lunch in Coronado. It was easy for 7 of us to get in on a Saturday. Great drink and food menu. We started off with fried pickles, most of us got the Burger with Avocado, my brother did a BYO with bacon and an egg, and we also tried the fried shrimp plate. Great spot to grab a couple drinks with friends and have a nice view of the city. I ordered the Bad A** Chicken Sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. The sandwich was delicious. The serving size was huge. I ordered a margarita and that was also good. The first one was a lot better than the second. The second was a little more on the margarita mix side. The dining area is pretty big. Lots of seating. They also have a ton to TVs so multiple Games on at the same time. Service was good. Street Parking or there was a public lot a block down. read more

Had to point out to waiter/staff what the menu included with my order. After being given attitude and simply just a lack of customer service an respect for deciding to patronize this establishment we had already waited for 20 minutes to order then, we were not asked for something to drink for an additional 15min, no water, no soda, no beer or cocktail request. The food when it did come was absolutely fantastic. Honestly though the food is great it is not worth the staff and service you get from this establishment. I think it now is in the title "rotten" and should be considered so!! Save yourself the hassle and go anywhere else! read more

Our visit to Nicky Rottens was a huge bummer. I ordered the nachos because they looked so good on here and the reviews were awesome. When they came out it looked nothing like the pictures. The steak was really undercooked and looked like it had been sitting out a while. It was in big slices too so I had to ask for a plate so I could cut it up. I asked them to cook the steak more and they did. There was no sour cream or guacamole on the nachos. When I asked for it on the side they said they don't even have sour cream. The queso and salsa that it came with left the chips really soggy and watery. They were not good at all. My husband ordered a cob salad and added chicken for $8. When it came out it was almost half the size of what they used to serve. It was a $30 salad after adding the chicken. When we asked why all the food was different, they said they changed the menu 3 weeks ago to cut down on food waste. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because my daughter liked her chicken tenders and the service was fine. Our dinner ended up costing over $100 after tip. We didn't even get any drinks besides water or desserts. Such a waste of money. I would not go back here again. read more

I came to Nicky Rottens and ordered the Mai Tai along with the smash burger and tater tots -- and wow, everything was on point! We've been coming here for a couple of years and it's always been a great place for a quick "hey let's grab a bite on the island!" Just went there & not sure it's going to stay that way for much longer. Learned they have new owners (again) and have made some significant changes, some much needed & some not so beneficial. Ambiance: 5 stars, still nice and chill Service: 3 stars still solid, used to be stellar, but they at least try. I hate having to flag down the servers so that docked a star. Food: 2 stars. Dude, ease up on the salt! We had nachos and it was so salty. Used to love it, but it def tastes different now. They pared down their menu-smart move for keeping food costs down. It was huuuuge before. Sad that they got rid of fried zucchini, but not the biggest loss. Portions like salad & nachos definitely are smaller-again smart to reduce food waste. Just a bit bummed that between 3 of us we would get a salad, nachos & appetizer combo and split it so we had a variety of goodness. This time it forced us to get burgers (not the one I used to sometimes order since they don't have it anymore), again salt shaker patty when flavor can come from elsewhere even better. Guess we are looking for somewhere else on the island when my hubby gets off work. Hard to support local when it's not as good as it used to be. Oh well. read more

Came in for the first time. Wasn't too busy and we did enjoy the food. Our waitress was friendly and the portions were pretty large. Price was on the high side but expected considering the area. Unfortunately my CC was not returned to me, and I left shorty after. When I realized it was not returned I called them and they said yes they have it. Great I thought. Advised I would be in the next morning to pick it up. Now the bad part. They lost my card! Waited as they searched for it but no luck. They explained that they always keep them in a box but magically mi e was gone. Will not retuen!!! read more

I've been here twice now. I started with a mocktail and hubby got a beer. I ordered the famous rotten burger and hubby opted for the jalapeño burger. Their burgers are huge and loaded! It comes with fries, so I upgraded to the garlic fries and it was great. I love their carne asada fries too! They are nicely seasoned and they don't skimp on the meat. The onion rings were so crispy! The first time I sat outside, so service was a bit slow and we weren't checked up on enough. I wanted dessert, but didn't want to wait 30 minutes for it. The second time I went here, we sat inside and service was more attentive. We ordered mocktails and mine was so refreshing. The cheese sticks were piping hot too. I wanted to try their grilled hot pastrami sandwich this time and it was very flavorful. I forgot to add garlic to my fries, so these were okay lol. My friend got a mushroom burger and a side of onion rings. For dessert, we shared the cookie bomb, which was pretty good, but had too much whipped cream for me. Overall, a solid place to get some grub. read more

Went here on a Thursday afternoon and it was a pleasant experience! The burgers are massive, and for the price on point. The drinks were also good, highly recommend the Coconut Margarita! read more

If you're looking for a restaurant with big portions, this is it. Their portions are huge and probably shareable if you're not starving. My fiancé and I came here after the gym. We were hungry! We didn't finish our food because the portions are soo big. I ordered the fish tacos and substituted a salad instead of fries. Future-hubby got a chicken quesadilla topped with a balsamic-like bruschetta, side of guac, sour cream and salsa. I think I liked his meal more than mine. I asked for flour tortillas for my fish tacos, but got corn. The salad also had some rotten pieces in it. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be rude. The fish was cooked well and very tasty. If you have a small mouth like me, it might be hard to eat this taco. They pack it up to the rim!! 4 stars for food, ambiance and service. It was our second time here together. I'd definitely come back again! read more

An incredibly good chicken sandwich that is a feat to finish... The portion was absolutely massive. I had the Bad Ass Chicken Sandwich and the Smash Hit cocktail. The chicken smothered in their sauce, but stayed crispy the whole time. The breading was great, a lot of time I feel like places overdo it and it tastes way too breaded, but not here. The healthy heaping of coleslaw was fresh and plussed it up by adding a cold contrast to the rest of the sandwich. The vibe at Nicky Rottens is similar to Buffalo Wild Wings, but much better. Lots of TV's, louder atmosphere, huge menu. The food and drinks are obviously much better. The service was very quick and friendly. Our server got our order in right away and we didn't have the wait very long, even on a night that it was packed and March Madness games were on. I love this place and will definitely be back soon. 9/10 highly recommend read more

Went for lunch with a group and ordered the All American Burger. It had to be one of the nastiest, greasiest burgers I've ever had. It takes the word "grease burger" to a whole new level. Also, the staff was rude and unpleasant. All for $29. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

I came across a foodie page on IG where the person was raving about the food at Nicky Rottens, especially the nachos. Honestly speaking I think they may have overhyped it, every single food item that we ate was seriously lacking seasoning. A little salt and pepper would've went a long way. Sliders: We returned this plate bcuz it tasted like nothing Nachos: They were good, it has a cafeteria nacho vibe going on. It did need some acidity to cut through and seasoning to the chili as well. Wings: These were cooked really well, nice and crispy and juicey. The Thai Chili wings were the best thing we ate there. The service was good and the location and ambiance is great, i means it's Coronado so come on. read more

Went for lunch on a weekday, found excellent parking, plenty of choice tables available. The waitress was Johnny on the Spot during our entire visit even it's an Olympic Gold Medal match on that she was clearly interested in, real "duty first" service. Everything came out hot and fresh. None of us were prepared for for portions being so massive. The leftovers could have been a complete second meal if we knew it would have survived the afternoon in the shipyard spoiling in the car. Most definitely a place I'll tell team members about as we rotate through this project. read more

Great burgers, not too expensive considering it Coronado. Here are a few more thoughts.

I love a good Rotten Burger! I used to eat at a location downtown that's no longer open and started coming to the Coronado location. This was my first time eating here as a vegetarian with Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac Disease, so I was thrilled they were so accommodating to use lettuce instead of a bun for me! Our servers were so fun and bubbly and doted on our little Chihuahua Emee. Despite having lettuce instead of a bun, the burger was delicious! read more

A few friends and I stopped by here a couple weeks ago for a bite. The ambiance was cool and location was great right on the water. We described it as a sports bar you would wear a polo to rather than a jersey or tank top. Service started out incredibly fast with drinks and apps within a few minutes, then really started to slow down around entree time. Apps were great! Definitely get the onion rings! Burgers were pretty good but not incredible. Portions were massive and the prices were reasonable considering we were near the water in Coronado. We got a dessert that they may have forgotten about since it took about 40 minutes to come out. More like a 3.5-3.75 but I'll round up on stars since you can't do increments. read more

First visit. Arrived before 11am to have a couple of beers with lunch. Sitting at the bar in comfy velveteen chairs, the bartenders took great care of us suggesting draft beers according to our tastes. The place was low key for awhile then the place started to fill up to watch Rugby on the big screen, the energy in the place turned up. Definitely a place to watch sports with all the TV screens.
