entry fee wasn't too bad. first drink is where we saw a dip in quality. the drink cost more than entry ($18) (entry $15)... second drink was to see repetition. we were charged ($15 a drink). we had to speak up about previous pricing...this brought attention to the manager who we asked what a drink is priced ($17). this price is not correct surrounding bartenders. our final drink i walked up and asked yet again for the same drink we've been grabbing and received a receipt for $32 which is $16 a drink... yet again priced from random. music is great. service and management is horrible to even have decent customer service. look past being disrespected and talked down to...we have a decent dance location read more

I have had friends recommend this place and seen multiple marketing online for it so I thought, why not? I didn't realize it was so close to Mira Mesa so that got me even more excited! Upon arrival, I realized most of the parking lot was covered in cones to prevent from parking... weird. Nonetheless I was able to find parking right in front, to the side of the club. I also found it odd that the front of the place quiet literally seems like a restaurant. I kept searching the place over and over again while waiting for my friends and yup, that was it. We go in and paid $15 each. We walked toward the bar and were greeted by a waitress who asked us if we wanted to sit. I said absolutely but then I thought "whoa! What if they charge?" So I asked her and of course there's a charge! Only $250! My gosh. They bring you a bottle, 2 mixers, and ice. I was bummed because there's absolutely no sitting inside except if you pay. It was only 3 of us girls so we ended up paying and it worked out for us since we made about 5-6 okayish drinks per person, which would've equal to much over $83 at the prices of their drinks. The craziest part was the Banda. We went there solely for live bands music. And we waited until 1am for it. At MOST, the Banda played for one hour... AT MOST! I was so pissed. We spent over $300 that night for 1 hr of banda. Bummer! I wanted to like the place but now I know what kind of ambiance it really is. I'd suggest other downtown places if you're looking for the same DJ vibe but with free seating and more modern decor. read more

First drink the bartender admitted to overcharging, I asked the manager why a half glass of a drink costs more than their cover & she couldn't answer me even when I pointed out the vodka used in my drink was a house drink. Aww man, Im sooo disappointed in this place right now. I used to come here for years, years ago, literally like every weekend. I stopped coming here about 3-4 years ago and I recently decided to visit with a new friend of mine now that I live out of town. I shouldn't have because now all my great memories here are tainted. it's the same tables and bar and pictures in the bathroom and entrance and desk and stage and everything so everything is OLD old and run down. I stepped into a Time Machine! How have they not invested in this place with how much money they make by overcharging? In 10 yrs it looks the SAME... the bartender lady served five of her friends and then one random person. The prices! OMG ! It's ridiculous! $60 for a bucket of beer and $5 for a water bottle? Blue agave is definitely a good place to go if you're in the dancing mood. At one point I would go every other weekend,& now, that has highly diminished. They open around 8:30 and cover is free before 10, otherwise you pay $10 unless its a concert night. In that case, cover prices differ. This a club/ bar that is open Thursday- Sunday. They have a DJ & mainly play Spanish music including: cumbia, salsa, merengue, bachata, and rock en español. Their music schedule changes depending on the day. Take note of the following. -Fridays are bachata night with some karaoke- for this reason i do not go this day. A bunch of drunk people get up on stage and attempt to sing their little hearts out. This will go on for a while. -Saturday: The place is pretty empty up until 10:30, this is when the crowd usually starts arriving. This day, there will usually be Cumbia playing most of the night, followed by merengue and bachata.The night always ends with Spanish rock. -Sunday: Banda night. That's all there is to say, self explanatory. As a disclaimer: 99% of people that go here are Hispanic. If you are a wall flower do yourself a favor and skip because the dance floor is not too big. The bar has cheaper drinks than many other clubs. They have tables inside and a pool table near entrance. They also have a patio with tables and chairs, which is nice. They have hookah outside too. They use to have a taco lady in their patio but that's been out for a couple of months, who knows if they will bring that back. There is now a taco shop convenient located next door. It is open late so even if you leave Agave at 4am you can walk over and get yourself some good ol' carne asada burrito. Put on your dancing shoes! :) read more

So on the outside it looked kinda sketchy, but when going in the place is huge! Staff was friendly and attentive. Security is a big deal there and that s a plus. The music was great and the drinks were strong and well priced. I liked that they have a no drink policy on the dance floor. The outdoor patio area also has a bar in the back. My wife and I, were in San Diego over the weekend and were looking for a cool salsa club, thanks to yelp, we disocovered the The Blue Agave, it's location in a strip mall, don't let appearances fool you, once we got inside, it was pretty big, big dance floor, which was jam packed with people... The music, was great, a cool fun vibe... I do suggest the following: 1. get there early, no cover before 10pm 2. get there early, to get a table..not that many tables.. 3. get there early, they offer lessons between 9-10pm 4. get there early, to get a good parking space... 5. get some cash before, they don't take atm or credit at the door, there is an atm inside.. i can't wait to go back :) read more

Um, How about a big, NO!. The music was lively but it was super dark and had hideous black lights. We were in the private party sections. The only ups to the place was the cheap liquor. The music was okay. The people at the bar seemed just a tad on the crazy side. Don't even think about bumping into someone accidentally, Oh excuse me for being in a crowded bar and accidentally grazing your arm. Where are my manners Sir or Madam. They will stare you down and then proceed to threaten. The front was reminiscent of an airport shakedown. You have to go through 3 security guards just to get in. Now if I'm being felt up at the door by the female security guard, it should have been an indicator. On a positive note, I was able to watch 2 movies while there. There are TVs all around but the private area had a huge one. So i finished watching Mila Jovovich kick some zombie ass and Hugh jackman kick ass with a robot. That was the highlight of the night. The 1 Star is for the older gentleman part of security who forbids dancing near the bar area. I brought my parents here who are visiting from the east coast to see a band perform. Obviously the venue is packed and the dance floor is at a standstill. How could you forbid dancing in an establishment that's meant for dancing.? Learned about this place through word of mouth, reminded me or Club Caribe but more dudes.. The bar is huge which is nice. Liked the music, will give it another shot, not too much luck with the ladies should have been more aggressive. Good luck finding a chair though, I think some people love to go to clubs for the sole purpose of sitting on their asses for 4 hours. Save your money and do that at home, leave the seats for people who do dance, have a good time and might need a rest. Anyone going to any concert or event put on by this night club will be waiting in line for more than 3 HOURS in the COLD!! They are sooooooo disorganized and understaffed! The promoter or whom ever puts the concerts/events together SHOULD BE FIRED!!! They put on a Wisin y Yandel concert in Northern California yesterday and they made us all wait for more than 4 hours!! Standing in the cold!! The doors were suppose to open at 7pm, I was in line by 6pm...4 hours later they started letting people in. Everyone was so tired, irritated, mad, and confused that they began rushing to the front of the line cutting everyone who had been waiting there for hours. Blue Agave's people and security guards didn't do anything about it because there were only 2 (can you believe it!) people working the line. By the time I was let inside (10pm), my legs were hurting, I was tired, and extremely irritated. Wisin y Yandel began the concert 20 minutes later...the line was soooo long that I bet some people didn't even get in on time to hear the first few songs. BLUE AGAVE Night Club SHAME SHAME SHAME on you for having a very DUMB, DISORGANIZED IDIOT organizing your events!!! (I'm only using these words because I can't use any profanity!) My fiancee and I got tired of going downtown so we decided to check this club out and really enjoyed ourselves.It's free before 10pm and drinks are good and cheap. They play all kinds of Mexican music the few times I've gone there's nothing but Latinos which is cool cuss they don't disrespect. Ladies just watch out plenty of cougars who hit OM anything that's breathing. Lol Friday & Saturday are hip hop,regeton and nec. Sunday is live banda night. After reading some of the other yelp reviews, I was kind of nervous to go. I'm glad that I did, though. I had an absolute blast! Everyone (EVERYONE!) was friendly there, and I felt comfortable and safe. I danced my butt off with a bunch of different people, and really enjoyed just watching people dance, too. People were clearly having a great time. The DJ did change songs too quickly, as someone else mentioned on here, though. I met a bunch of new people here, and I'm really looking forward to going again. It's a little divey, but in a totally non offensive way. My only real complaint is that the band started so late! I got there at 9:30 and finally left at midnight (on a THURSDAY) because the band wasn't even set up yet! I watched a bit of the performance from home on their webcam and it looked amazing though, and I was jealous of my friends who stayed late! read more

My girlfriend is from Puerto Rico and she loves to dance salsa, bachata, and merengue, so I found some latin clubs. We've been to this one and Caribe, so I'm comparing it to that. Saturday is their carribean night, but the website also says they play some spanish rock and raeggaton. Pros- Big dance floor. Great security. Nobody really eyeballed me, being the only white guy in the place. Free before 10pm. No dress code that I could tell. Cons- They sure played a lot of American rap and Mexican music on their carribean night. We got sick of it and left after two hours of being there with only about 45 minutes of dancing. The people take up a ton of room dancing. We got run into a lot. Some guy behind the DJ booth that was not the DJ (the announcer?) would not shut up on the mic. He talked so much I was making jokes about him reading a book to us and wondering what chapter he was on. We're going to stick with Caribe. read more

The bottom line: awesome club with great live bands and killer drink specials. Whenever I come I start my night by buying a bottle of Don Julio 1942 and taking shots with my friends. Once the music is in full swing we bit the big dance floor and dance all night. The security is professional an a must have for any club, so I don't understand the complaints from people. I had always been curious about coming here and finally I did on Mexican Independence Day! It was so fun! They had live Banda. My bartender made me an awesome margarita. I was being a little picky because I only like 100 percent agave tequila. (Guaranteed no hangover) He gave me the best bang for my buck and was way cool about it. Some people had told me this place was a little ghetto but I think maybe it could be hit or miss. If you like dancing super Mexican music come here! :) When I exited the uber I was like "we're about to enter the vortex" My suggestion would be go when you just wanna dance and ngaf about what anyone thinks - just be cordial and a good sport - also check their Facebook for their special events. :) read more
