Situated on 5th Avenue in beautiful Hillcrest, The Loft is a small, but mighty place that is near and dear to my heart for a variety of reasons. From the bartenders, to the patrons, and of course the drinks...this spot is an absolute vibe! Everyone is beyond welcoming and fun here. The space is a great combination of indoor/outdoor. The drinks are strong and well priced, which is not a combination you can find many places these days! They don't serve food, but they are fine if you want to bring your own, which many folks do. We have enjoyed a cocktail and UberEats'd something so we didn't have to leave. Overall, while I am not a San Diego local (yet), I consider The Loft my local spot. Love this place!

There comes a point where a packed bar stops feeling fun and starts feeling like a human game of Tetris. I definitely don't wish anything bad on a gay bar or a space that's meant to be safe and welcoming for our community. That's exactly why I think this is worth saying: if there were ever a fire, emergency, or any situation where everyone needed to get out quickly, the level of overcrowding I experienced could become incredibly dangerous, very fast. Hopefully management takes a closer look at this, because a fun night out should be memorable for the right reasons -- not because you spent half of it wondering where the nearest emergency exit was.

None of the security or other staff would help me, I ended up just taking a small slip for their lost and found number. I am beyond heartbroken, I have lost years of irreplaceable photos and videos. I will never come to Rich's again, they have allowed this club to be a place where thievery is a common occurrence and I don't think anyone should accept this. People deserve to have a night out without having to worry if someone will pickpocket them and people deserve to be safe when they are drinking and vulnerable. Rich's is infested with experienced and organized pickpockets. At best, Rich's is incompetent, complicit and turning a blind eye but it is likely that someone is involved and allows this to continue.

Anyhow, this bar is much smaller than I had anticipated and luckily we arrived half an hr after opening as it was dead and I couldn't imagine how it is packed. As for drinks, top shelf Tito's is way overpriced at 12 bucks each, no thanks (not sure if cheaper during HH). Bartender was friendly though.

Each time we enjoy ourselves from entry to exit from service, drinks, food and of course, vibes. Their food is surprisingly good quality for a spot like this. If eating, we are usually enjoying brunch and the chilaquiles are always my choice, especially when adding chorizo! I usually pair it with a house cocktail and my go-to for brunch is the Bloody Mary. Speaking of drinks, this is a gay bar...so be prepared, as they will be a bit stronger than you are used to! Parking isn't your bestie, boyfriend, sir, or someone you know well lol, but the true locals recommend a ride share, early times and carpooling. We drove around on a Saturday night for quite a while and lucked into a sort of parking spot without restrictions. Restrooms are solid. Seating around the bar area and on the outskirts including a long beach or two fills up, but if you're patient something will open up. They typically card everyone at the door so please bring your non expired ID since no matter your age it's prohibited to serve adult beverages to anyone. Pecs does it's best to be a great bar so let's do our best to keep it that way. Open 12PM til Midnight daily, and until 2AM on Friday/Saturday.

Even though we're just visiting, they make you feel like a local who's been coming in forever. It has that neighborhood bar feel every single time. Food-wise, this last visit we had the steak sandwich and it was delicious. Their chicken fingers and fries are also excellent and as a self-proclaimed chicken finger connoisseur, that's saying something. Also a great spot if you're nursing a rough "morning" (or afternoon depending on when you roll out of the house) after. Gossip Grill is a staple every time we're in town, and Hillcrest in general just has such a great energy. Highly recommend.

When we told her it was supposed to be 2 of one beer and 1 of another, not the opposite, she said well I already poured it so it's yours now. Wow, okay. We ended up paying for 4 beers and only drank the 3. I mean she's great for the owners pocket I guess but she is horrendous with customer service. Mind you this was a Tuesday so it's not like it's jam packed with people and loud. We each drank 1 beer and played a game of pool and then took off. I wouldn't have minded hanging out longer if it wasn't for her. I don't want to waste money on someone with a bad attitude.

Note: I originally wrote this review on 7-1-14 but I think it was deleted for some reason, so I'm posting again... I've been going to SRO Lounge for a little more than a year, mostly on weekends when the crowds are at there peak. This review is long over due...especially considering there weren't too many (if any) reviews from "gurls" like me :-) The Crowd: I first went to SRO after reading other reviews, and they were interesting to say the least. It's all true! As for weekends, Saturday nights are best, followed by Friday nights and then, if you're lucky, perhaps a Sunday night. The rest of the week is reserved for mostly a local, neighborhood gathering that can be on the sparse side (but they are friendly enough as well). Back to the weekends (particularly Saturday night)...the place can certainly live up to it's name of Standing Room Only. It's an amazing smorgasbord of people and ripe for either mingling, people watching, making friends, or yes, flirting to your heart's desire. SRO is called a "gay bar" but that's really a misnomer...there are also lots and lots of TS's and gurls (as it seems to be the only place in town that caters to that crowd, intentionally or not) plus plenty of admirers, straights, mixed couples, and even an occasional female, all of whom appreciate a good, fun, energetic atmosphere where there is hardly a quiet moment to take stock of what a surreal environment the place offers. The best thing about the crowd, even a huge one, is that everyone is incredibly friendly...it's really all about live and let live. The Place: SRO has been described as a bit of a dive bar, and some people really like such places. I tend to think those opinions are based on the exterior of the place, and maybe it's location (kind of stuck between the Gaslamp and Hillcrest). Once you get inside though, the place is very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. It actually has no pretense about it...it's a bar and looks like a bar should. Photos aren't hard to find of the place so check it out yourself. On the downside, it's only a bar so there isn't any formal place to dance...but it's not like it never happens when someone likes the tunes from the juke box. There's also a pool table if you like that kind of thing. Otherwise, it's just barstools, some booths, and a whole lot of standing when the crowd is at its peak. The Drinks: Take this one to the bank, seriously. SRO's drinks are probably twice as strong and half the price of your typical "bar" or "club" drinks. I won't name names, but when some of my gurl friends and I go to other places for a change of pace, I'm always amazed what they call a drink and the prices they charge. I'm partial to Vodka Cranberry, and I've paid $6 to $7 for a watered down version of what SRO dolls out for a measly $4. Just two at SRO make me doing my analysis as to when I need to shut it down for a safe car ride home. The other places? Let's just say after $18 to $21 spent, you feel like you've been robbed. Imported beers go for $4, as do many other mixed drinks. I do know that SRO has more expensive mixed drinks too...I believe a Fireball is $6 and other drinks can be the same (maybe more?) depending on the drink. I don't drink enough variey to go through the list, but I've heard first hand from the bartenders (who seem to take pride in what they pour) that the potency of their drinks vs. the other places is all consistently stronger regardless of the price, meaning if SRO charges more than the $4 drink I get, you can rest assured that it's still a good value. The Bartenders: All great, friendly, and personable...no need to name drop, just go see for yourself. Oh, and Rhonda the bouncer is a sweetheart...but I pity any fool that would make her act the role (never seen that yet) If I could give SRO more than 5 stars I would. Of course, if I was to add a disclaimer it would be that my perspective is that of a gurl...but I'd still say that with the exception of what I judge the "fun" factor, everything else is as objective as I can make it. As for the "fun" factor...it's all about the individual person. If you just stand around and become invisible, it's not SRO's fault it's not fun. read more

We came here last night it was my girlfriends bday and it was a pretty slow night. Only maybe 3 people when we came in. The bartender was in a corner on his phone and we decided to give this bar a chance because we are part of the LGBTQ community and we saw good reviews. We sat down and he came up to us 5 minutes in and said " what can I get you guys " we said " oh can we see a drink menu " he pointed at the drinks and said " we dont do menus here where are you guys from " we said " the ie " and he said " this is sd we dont have alot of restaurants the ie does maybe thats why you guys want a drink menu " i replied " shell get a pacifico " since I noticed he was very agressive from the jump and off. He seemed upset that I said that and turned to get her her drink. My gf said she say him look around and put something on her drink and proceeds to put the drink and say its $6 dollars and she takes out her $6 gives it to him and he looks down at the cash and says " where are you guys from again? " I said " the ie " he said " im guessing the ie doesnt tip" and I was confused bc we were going to drink there for awhile and tip before we leave thats normally how we tip. Since he said that we took out $3 and ordered an uber and left she didnt drink the drink. Are uber got there in less than 2 minutes. We werent rude or anything just wanted to be supportive the bartender did look drunk or on something, but was very rude and aggressive. Just be safe pls. Bc you never know. read more

The SRO Lounge is a great place to go and meet people in a clean comfortable environment. They cater to a wide variety of people. It does not matter what gender you are the SRO Lounge is the place to go. Its nice that it is off the beaten path. It has come to my attention and the attention of local and federal law enforcement that a large number of the transgender community that attend the SRO Lounge over the weekends are only there to prostituted themselves. Especially now that backpage.com's escort adds have been closes down. This is not only illegal but is degrading to the LGBTQ community. The SRO Lounge owner and staff should put a stop to this activity or the City and State Officials will step in and put a stop to it how ever they need to. read more

Insane people watching, people are really nice, bartender is awesome (drinks are always strong and best part, CHEAP). Spin is a pretty iconic club for hosting some of the biggest EDM acts throughout their time of existence. This space is a real one in that it is all about the music. From two floors in the main room, a side room with an extra dj spinning, and a rooftop -- you have to make it a point to explore around. Drink prices were pretty fair although it was a bit odd they stopped serving liquor on the top floor well before 2am. Bathrooms are a bit of a clusterf*@k as they only have one set of bathrooms for the entire venue on the second floor. The lines were always long and I don't even think it's city compliant lol. All in all, glad we got to check out MK here but it wouldn't be my go-to venue for shows.
