The food used to be consistently good, but now is hit or miss. Lately, the cakes have been awful and or stale. Some of the waitresses, who have been there for many years, need to be retrained or retire. My second time here, first time was not as bad. This time I walk in and ask for a table for 2 and we get a tiny table next to the bathroom. I move to the other tiny table 3 tables away. 5 empty booths stayed empty the whole time we were there, why would she give us such a table??? The one waitress in our section, who never looked at us, only kept complaining and whining to all of her customers. Like I want to hear someone complaining about their job while they are at work and I am paying them. After about 10 minutes another waitress comes over and took care of us. Ordered a chicken Parm hero, sauce on the side and asked for a side of slaw and pickle. Hero bread was stale, very stale. The piece of over cooked chicken only took up about 65% of the stale bread. Never got slaw and pickle. Had an overpriced cookie that was not fresh either. Table near us had to send back 6 soups because they were all not hot. Overpriced and very poor quality. Avoid! The owner of the diner is a penny pinching shrew. Because I am lactose intolerant I asked for a drop of almond milk for my coffee and was told it would be 50 cents extra. I mean seriously??? I asked why when no other place charges for almond or soy I was told " if 50 cents was a big deal to me I was not her kind of customer." Really??? We visited the newly opened Mitchell's diner today, they reopened about six weeks ago. We found the experience just perfect. I had my favorite, chicken souvlaki​ sandwich​. It was exactly as I like it. And I didn't have to order the whole-plate deluxe deal like so many diners make you order when you only want...a sandwich​. Some diners put all purpose chicken on the sandwich​ which is not very tender nor flavorful. This chicken was tender, well marinated and delicious​. Of course,​ the parking in front of the diner is very small, but there is a parking lot right next door which works out well. The woman who owns this diner is rude and doesn't value her customers. The last time we were at this diner, with my 96 year old mother, who has very bad back pain, she refused to let us sit and wait at the table because all of our party wasn't present ( three of the them were on the road not five minutes away). The owner had the audacity to say that if my mother wanted to sit down she could sit on one of the high counter bar stools!!! A very shoddy and unacceptable way to treat a regular customer. Ironically, after we walked out and went to The Pantry diner ( where they let my mother sit immediately) ,it just so happened that our delightful server, upon hearing about our horrible experience at Mitchell's , explained that she had worked for this woman for a short period of time, and that this woman has a reputation in the industry of being a rude, obnoxious nutcase, which is the reason that the staff is constantly changing in this diner. She is just as abusive to her employees as she is to her clientele. That's okay: Her loss, The Pantry's gain ; She'll eventually drive all of her customers away. Do not patronize this diner. Pretty straight up yummy diner fare. I had the southwestern omelette which I asked for as a "scramble" , with home fries well done and it came out perfectly and exactly as I'd asked. Ate lunch here yesterday, and everything was great. I got a burger, which I rarely do at a diner since it would normally be disappointing but I was pleasantly surprised, needed a little salt but otherwise pretty great. The potato salad, also really good. Fries cooked well, but also could have used some seasoning. Called in a take out order. Requested gluten free bread for open sandwich with gravy on the side and gluten free bread in onion soup. I asked for the vegetable selections and was told they had mixed vegetables and I ordered that. The gravy wasn't on the side and the mixed vegetables had orzo pasta that is not gluten free. I called to complain and was rudely told that the vegetables come with orzo. I said that I asked for gluten free. The woman raised her voice and said that is the way it comes. I stopped in tonight for an early dinner/snack. I happened to be sitting by the owner's wife interviewing some young women for a job I guess, and overheard how she spoke to those poor girls. One was a young black woman, I'm not sure if this is racist, but she said everything possible to the young lady to not want the job. (deterring her) She tested her to count change, the girl before her wasn't asked to do that. She asked her personal questions, and actually said "Waitressing is for the undereducated" WTF I know plenty with degrees. Told her she should focus on college. I would never hold an establishment responsible for one bad experience, so we tried again, and again. Three strikes, you're out. Not enough wait staff. Super long wait time for super bad food. The first visit, wraps were tasty, but waited 45 minutes. No bread or crackers served unless you asked. 2nd visit again a 30 minute wait, no bread once again. Ordered one scoop of ice cream for dessert. Waiter asked if we wanted whipped cream. Of course. The bill bill came. $7.00 was added for one small scoop of below average tasting ice cream. When I questioned the price, I was told by the much less than friendly woman at the register (who appeared to be the owner or manager) that the very small speck of whipped placed on top, was an additional $2.00. Wish I had taken a pic. And wish they had informed me of that. Unbelievable. Foolish for us, we gave them a third try realizing maybe they hadn't gotten their act together, being in a new location. Third try, ordered roasted chicken with stuffing. Stuffing dried out and inedible. Chicken, dried out. Salad, didn't even cover small plate. Again, had to wait 45minutes and ask for breadsticks. We were asked, "you want bread?" As if I was asking for a filet mignon for free. Needless to say, I will NEVER step foot in this place again. There are way too many fabulous eating establishments on Long Island, than to waste my time and money here. The owner needs to take lessons in customer service. I checked out this diner today with my mom for lunch. I'm from out of town and was visiting for the day. We ordered a BLT and egg salad sandwich. It took almost an hour for the food to come. Our waitress did not check on our table at all. We had to keep calling her over to refill the water, provide us with straws, etc. She even took another couple's order before ours and they had sat down after us. It seemed like the place was getting busier, but there were only two waitresses on the floor. When I saw another staff member there, I asked why they did not have more waitresses there. She said, "I no understand". Once we asked for the check, it took another 15 minutes until that came. I was completely displeased with the service here. We would not have left the waitress a tip, but it would have taken another 15 minutes to get change. The food was okay, but then again it was only basic sandwiches we ordered and it also took about an hour to make so you would hope it would be at least good. We wanted to order more items but we didn't want to be there waiting for another hour. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to receive slow, unfriendly service and just average food. This place is not even as busy as half the other diners I have been to, yet they can't keep up with the few customers there. Also, the decor of this place could use much needed TLC. read more

Mitchell's Diner is Oceanside is amazing. The food is always cooked to perfection. I used to dine in Mitchell's with these owners when they were in Valley Stream, and continued to dine with them now that they are in Oceanside. It is a much smaller place, but the food is always delicious, the staff is friendly, and it is very clean. read more

Went with some friends a few weeks back, my first time trying Mitchell's since it reopened. The waitress (forgot her name, but she was an older lady who told us about her grandkids) was extremely nice and funny, and was extremely quick and attentive. The prices were pretty typical prices for diner food, and the menu had lots of options. I ordered a burger, and it came out cooked perfectly, with delicious crispy bacon. The french fries were perfect too. Extremely happy to have a diner in Oceanside again and will be back soon!! read more

Walked in and said Hi is this the same Mitchells Diner that was here a few years ago????...The person at the cash register said yes but a smaller version...(said in a nasty way) how can I help You??I said it four and a baby...do you need a high chair??? I said I don't know there coming in...This NASTY PERSON sAID OHHHH I SEE a stroller NO sTROLLERS are allowed its a fire hazard!!!!!!!!! let them know now...I said ok calm down...I just walked in to get something to eat with my family....She also said I cant sit you until I know if you need a high chair...(ok the place is completely empty) I then said to a waitress sitting doing nothing bc the place was empty.
