Today was my second visit to this diner. The first time and this time I had Denise as my server. It's her personality and grace that will keep me coming back. Today I had the fried filet of sole sandwich with fries. It came to the table nice and hot. Once again, COVID precautions were in place. The food was delicious and our waitress was great and attentive. however, management had my family and I very upset. they were getting ready for a very large party and preparing the tables. someone I assume was the manager or owner was talking so disrespectfully to one of the bus boys it caught my family and a few other's attention. she was so disrespectful and rude. at one point while he was moving chairs and she slammed into him on purpose and stared at him like do something about it. It broke my heart so my step mom and I spoke out. She didn't acknowledge us but she stopped picking on him after. Then later the large party came and they pretty much began to rush us out our booth. I barely ate half my sandwich and twice they came to ask if I wanted to wrap it to go. I had to feed my 5 month old so I started eating later than my parents. When we said something to management all they said was well what are we supposed to do with the 50 ppl we need to sit? as if we weren't paying as well. We love this place. My son can't wait to see his favorite waitresses. They know him by name and and love him to pieces. The food is great and the service always the best. Grandma gets her gluten-free meal and I love the Greek Salad. The main reason we go every week is to see our favorite people Denise, Maureen, and Lisa. Food was just ok. I had seafood bisque with no seafood in it. My chicken was just ok. They had my mom stand with a cane for awhile as they were saving the table 5 or more. Then they sat us there. The waitress never came over to us. They don't seem well managed as no one seemed to know who was our waitress. It took a long time to even get a menu even once I asked for one. Terrible place. Owners are so mean! They treat their staff like complete shit. I worked here for 3 weeks and quit just as fast as I started. Sheryl was rude to not only staff but to customers. Refused to allow a lady her walker; made people keep strollers outside. Food was not good. When on break I wanted to order something and she told me it "wasn't food for ladies, get a salad." Total dump. They care more about their jersey location than this one. I would NOT recommend going to this place. So many other great places to spend your money. I have never seen more disrespectful managers/owners in my life. I went to Mitchell's yesterday with another adult and 2 toddlers. Our service was not the best (forgot drinks, had to ask numerous times for sides, etc) but that wasn't the worst of it. During our meal I watched them make an elderly woman with a cane move tables in the middle of her me so they could accommodate a larger party. How rude?! When we got the check they had charged us for a drink we never got. When we asked her to change it she stated "oh god I'm gonna get yelled at" the management/ownership here is disgusting for having their employees fear them so much that they're afraid to admit they made a minor mistake. On the way out we were asked how the meal was, the woman I was with was honest and said everything I just listed above. The owner smiled and laughed in her face while ignoring her and talking to other people. Why ask someone how the meal was if you don't care? Visited for lunch on Tuesday 8/04/20 It's never a good sign if the few parking spaces that are there are empty but we went in anyway. We were seated immediately and given water and a menu. The waitress appeared to have other duties including serving outside tables and the counter; both were empty. So taking 20 minutes to get the coffee we asked for upon arrival seemed unusual. Then, when the coffee arrived our order was taken. It took at least an half an hour to get the food all the while watching the waitress behind the counter moving like a snail (maybe slower) never once offering to refill my coffee or water cup. The place appeared very clean and the food is good. But you can expect to need well over an hour for a 20-30 minute lunch. read more

No one was at the host stand when I arrived , the older waitress was sitting around the counter top as soon as I walked in she didn't have the courtesy to turn around but begins to say "yes yes" so we just stand there than the other lady standing behind the counter said yes as well ! Not once did any of them say good morning or welcome. So the one sitting down turned around and said does that come off because I can't let you in with the stroller! This is not your typical diner. It certainly has an older funky vibe, where the waitresses are spunky (which may be confused with being rude), quick-witted and has an old school humor bordering sarcastic. I actually enjoy that so I didnt take anything personally and enjoyed my breakfast experience. The food was average. It's a typical local diner, so I didnt expect some grand cuisine. But I did enjoy my food. I've been here a few times and haven't been disappointed yet. (Ok maybe the coffee wasn't the best, but drinkable). AWFUL! Just awful. I was in on Saturday night with my husband, no one greeted us, we were seated after about 10 mins of just standing up front. When the server finally came to the table, we felt like a burden for just being there. When our food arrived, my bacon was burnt on top of my pancakes and I waited a long time for my server. I was told it was cost extra money for the bacon . I didn't want to cause a scene but being on the board of three local women's clubs I think its outrageous if a customer isn't satisfied with their meal to be charged extra. Nastiest staff and manager I have ever met. They got my order completely wrong and still charged me for it. They put gravy on the meatloaf my grandmother ordered when she explicitly wrote "no gravy." She can't have gravy without getting sick, which means her food was inedible for her. When I called the restaurant and kindly asked for them to fix this or give me credit, the manager acted like a complete animal. She kept claiming that it wasn't her problem and tried to pin it on me. I was part of a party of 3 on Easter Sunday 2019. We were greeted sat & immediately and given a glass of water. We did not see a waitress for 15 min.There after orders were taken. Two of the three orders came to the table incorrect and the elderly waitress immediately placed blame on us. I personally waited so long I just ate the croissant & coffee I ordered .The croissant was burned the 1st time around & toasted the second time. I never asked for it toasted. I was charged 10.00 for a croissant and coffee. I asked for a manager to complain about the service. He never showed up. The cashier said there was no manager available but I could leave a note. We liked the prior incarnation of Mitchell's, but had an awful experience there for dinner. While I was inclined to overlook waitress's dropping the bread basket and sending it's contents all over me, things got worse from there. Seafood bisque looked like a bowl of salad dressing and had no signs of seafood in it. Balsamic chicken dinner special was drenched in oil and bereft of any seasoning, and was barely edible, leading to unmentionable stomach distress later in the evening. And we had to wait about a half hour to get waitress's attention to get a check. DINER FROM HELL!!! BEWARE!! Walked in 8 am Tues and place was TOTALLY EMPTY, 12 booths staring at me. Asked for a booth and the waitress/hostess (?) told me NO BOOTHS FOR ONE PERSON. I insisted, counting the empty booths aloud, and sat at one of their PRECIOUS BOOTHS. Ordered eggs over medium, came soft and runny. Coffee totally tasteless, a cheap version of Vassilaros diner coffee. Some of the waitresses, who have been there for many years, need to be retrained or retire. I don't understand how a diner can turn away families that need to bring in a car seat or stroller. It's a diner aka family restaurant.

My second time here, first time was not as bad. This time I walk in and ask for a table for 2 and we get a tiny table next to the bathroom. I move to the other tiny table 3 tables away. 5 empty booths stayed empty the whole time we were there, why would she give us such a table??? The one waitress in our section, who never looked at us, only kept complaining and whining to all of her customers. Like I want to hear someone complaining about their job while they are at work and I am paying them. After about 10 minutes another waitress comes over and took care of us. Ordered a chicken Parm hero, sauce on the side and asked for a side of slaw and pickle. Hero bread was stale, very stale. The piece of over cooked chicken only took up about 65% of the stale bread. Never got slaw and pickle. Had an overpriced cookie that was not fresh either. Table near us had to send back 6 soups because they were all not hot. Overpriced and very poor quality. We visited the newly opened Mitchell's diner today, they reopened about six weeks ago. We found the experience just perfect. I had my favorite, chicken souvlaki​ sandwich​. It was exactly as I like it. And I didn't have to order the whole-plate deluxe deal like so many diners make you order when you only want...a sandwich​. Some diners put all purpose chicken on the sandwich​ which is not very tender nor flavorful. This chicken was tender, well marinated and delicious​. Of course,​ the parking in front of the diner is very small, but there is a parking lot right next door which works out well. Cheryl had an egg sandwich​​ with lettuce and tomato which was huge and delicious. Very attentive service too. We highly recommend it. We'll be going back for sure. Leebythesea.me read more
