They advertise poorly !! Their prices do not reflect a $1500 charge for a ceramic coating they putting on their cars . I feel that should be option to the customer . Once your ready to buy they tell about this up charge , plus if u don't finance through them the price goes up $2500 ... so the car now is & 4000 more !! Don't forget bout their high doc fee ! I found an even better car with same mileage $13,000 less at a dealership in New York where their doc fee is $175 !! I had a horrible experience at Mitchell Volvo. The salesperson was fine, and I thought we had come to an agreement. The sales manager was a bully, a misogynist and completely arrogant and obnoxious, and I took my business elsewhere. I (would have been) a repeat customer, but I would NEVER recommend this dealership. I purchased my beautiful car elsewhere, and I plan to tell EVERYONE I know about my experience. Really sad that they took what should have been exciting and fun and made it awful. I was so excited to get this luxury automobile, and they turned it into a miserable, stressful event. Also posted this under Mitchell Auto Group. In late May 2024, I purchased a 2021 XC 60 certified Volvo with approx. 25K miles from Mitchell Volvo in Simsbury, CT. While shopping for this car, I specifically asked the condition of the brakes and was told they were 8mm. They assured me they go through the car and run a safety point inspection prior to sale. Shortly after I owned the vehicle, there was a grinding sound coming from the front brakes like metal on metal. I left a voice mail with the salesperson and emailed the business manager about the problem who contacted me a couple of days later after I already had a different Volvo dealership repair the brake problem. The front brakes were metal on metal, pads less than 1mm. They also found outdated software, and a faulty mirror sensor (I had to manually re-set my mirrors each time I reversed). read more

Came fully prepared to purchase a vehicle I found online, left no longer wanting it specifically because of the salesperson, Alane. Instead of trying to sell me the paint protection service, she lied and said it CAME WITH the car. So I said "oh cool, so it's already installed on the car and built into the price?" (Because you know, that's what "COMES WITH THE CAR" implies.) But no, it's an extra $1500 that she was just trying to tack on. Then she lied about how much they could give me for my trade, reciting Kelly Blue Book, unaware that I had already checked KBB AND gotten a quote from another dealership for thousands more than she offered, and when I revealed this to her she replied with, "I ASKED you if you got a quote." I'm not going to tell you what someone else gave me just so you can match it, I was hoping for more, and KBB also said my car was worth way more than she offered. Then she had the gall to tack on some OTHER service she didn't explain on my quote too. Unreal. At that point I felt like I couldn't trust anything that came out of her mouth. She was also very awkward and seemed like a poor fit for a sales role, and as a salesperson whose personal brand is based on trust I'm very offended by this entire experience with her. I am giving one star, because 0 starts is not an option. My experience there today was disgusting!!! A saleswoman worked with me as I was looking at a specific pre-owned vehicle I had researched online. After only 10 minute she told me we weren't worth her time to work with. What??? That was pretty horrible thing to say. She refused to even look at my Trade -In. Told me that if I was not willing to pay their prices including all of of their fees (their new destination charge is $1499.00) and do their financing, that I was not worth her time. We didn't even get to the point of looking at the cars or assessing my trade to see where I stood. She even refused to let me see the car or take it for a test drive. I am a brown person. And I left feeling that this must have been a factor. She made an assumption based on something I don't understand and decided to get me and my wife out of there. I have never had this type of experience before. She was rude and insulting. Very sad about this because I bought a car from them 15 years ago when they still sold Saab. And I my father in law used to work there back then. They have changed a lot since then. All negative from my experience today. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this dealership. read more

RUN - DON'T WALK TO ANOTHER VOLVO DEALER! Apologies in advance for the lengthiness butI feel compelled to inform and warn everyone about this business. Last year, I found an XC40 online that I was interested in. I am a schoolteacher in MA and thought it seemed like a good deal. Boy was I ever wrong! I drove down to CT and decided to go ahead with the purchase of my XC40 on a Friday. At that time, Volvo had an Affinity promotion whereby teachers get 500 off purchase. The way it works is you give your email to the dealership and they submit it to Volvo and then you get a pin number which they apply at time of signing papers. All of this is supposed to happen BEFORE the signing of papers (Remember that it's important later!) So I gave the bumbling sales guy "Dirty and Fast Mike Pendergast" my email address. Turns out he copied it wrong and Volvo never got it. Keep in mind this is a Friday afternoon now and no pin coming from Volvo. I ask him repeatedly are you SURE you got the email right? He tells me yes. Now it"s getting late and still no pin coming. And they know I am not buying this car without the 500 discount I'm entitled to. So fearing the loss of the sale (they don't want me leaving and driving back to MA without doing this deal!) finally Mike P and the shady sales manager Josh Figueroa assure me that I do not need to have the pin right now. It's okay. We can go ahead with the paperwork and I can submit it later to receive my discount and they'll cut me a check soon. Okay, great. I believed them and took them at their word. BIG MISTAKE!!! Turns out that Volvo would not reimburse me because the proper procedures were not followed. Either they were negligent or intentionally deceitful (I believe latter to be true). So... despite having a document with my purchasing paperwork stating "WE OWE YOU $500 when Volvo teacher pin is obtained" they never ponied up the $500. I spoke with Mark Mitchell himself who listened sympathetically to my story and said "Well if you're owed five hundred dollars then you're owed five hundred dollars!" After a few weeks went by without receiving my check I texted him and got back this response: "I was told that because you didn't have the necessary documentation at the time of sale they declined the claim." Wow. Seriously??? This is the owner of the dealership who has the ability to make things right and that's his response? Five hundred dollars is not worth covering for his inept employees and honoring the integrity and good name of his business?!? Now I will go through the process of filing complaints with the CT AG, BBB, etc. because I truly believe that what Mitchel Volvo did was illegal and unethical. Oh and one last thing that speaks to their business character: they even stated that the add-on $1500 for "Simonizing" is because they need this extra money because they can't keep up with the "big dealers" of Hartford. So it's a hidden cost embedded in the final sales price of every car you buy from them. Shady and sketch. That's another thing I am going to bring to corporate Volvo's attention. May 5, 2021 - Previously (April 30) I did a test ride of a Volvo model. I called back to request an appointment to look at and sit in the different models of the vehicle I was considering. I wanted to compare them. Alane Comerford called me back...what a horrible experience! She was rude, demeaning, and unaccomodating!!!....BIG MISTAKE! She told me the only difference was the trim and the radio and you already drove it. I told her I wanted to go on the highway...her response was "we are not near a highway" She said I could just look on the website and not come in. She questioned me on my lease which I told her 3 times..."the lease is NOT in the equation". I told her I was looking at other cars as well.. her response was "if you are looking at a Subaru..they are not the same" (Duh!)....so demeaning. Then her final words were "She is not paid hourly...she only gets paid when she sells." I called the dealership to speak to the Manager...the receptionist told me she would get him the message and he would call me back. I have never received a call back. read more

Seth and the Mitchell Team were able to facilitate a smooth and painless process of test driving , a trade in assessment, and purchasing said vehicle. The staff was patient and ensured I was completely satisfied and more with the purchase. The optional Warranty and other options were thoroughly explained without feeling pressured to make a hasty decision like you would get at other dealerships. I wish I read the reviews. I had thought that this dealership was trustworthy but that is the LAST thing they are. I went to look at new Volvo S60s with the intention of just looking and then deciding what I would do. The sales person kept saying how "cars are going fast and the car may not be around" and I felt pressured into buying the car on the spot. My husband did take a S60 for a test drive- but NOT the car we were interested in buying. We couldn't take that car and had to test drive a similar S60 car. But the salesperson had to go with us and made me sit in the back. I could not even sit up front to see how it rode. After pressure to buy the car right then we then had to see the Business Manager, Dominic. Dominic was fast talking, didn't explain anything and kept talking about the different Service plans and tried to shove that down my throat. After returning home I decided I did not like the way this whole transaction took place and I did not want the car. I called LESS THAN 24 hours later to cancel the sale of the car. Dominic said this had never happened before (REALLY, in all the years they have been around no one has cancelled a sale???) and said he would have to check to see if this could be done. He never got back to me and after leaving messages (emails, voicemail on Dominic's phone and with other staff to give him the message to call me) he still didn't get back to me. I then called Kyle the Service Manager. He was useless. He NEVER had the common courtesy to call me back. Although Dominic did then call me back so perhaps Kyle made Dominic do his "dirty work" by getting back to me? Dominic still had to check into some outstanding issues and once again after leaving emails and voicemails Kyle NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. The issue to cancel the sale of the car and return credit for the deposit was finally resolved with no thanks to any help from them. If you want a Volvo DO NOT go here unless you want to be abused. I did buy an Audi from Audi of Wallingford and had a complete 180degree difference in treatment. They were courteous, helpful, zero pressure to buy a car or any pressure about any additional options for Service plans, etc., and they also let me test drive the car I was interested in buying not something "similar" without them being in the car and with no restrictions. Again if you want a Volvo DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP-YOU WILL REGRET IT! I would give Zero stars but I did not have that option- hence the one star rating. read more

My family and I have always loved buying cars here. But after a recent incident with the Mitchell Volvo's General Manager Kyle Skiba we will no longer be purchasing vehicles from them. Kyle has not returned any of our calls in regards to a vehicle that we recently leased from him. My family and I have been calling Kyle for over 3 and a half weeks. With not a single call back from him. This is very sad because of Kyle's lack of professionalism and customer service we as well as family and friends will not be purchasing from the whole Mitchell auto group. The worst part of this is that we were looking for another car on top of the brand new Volvo we received. I hope that maybe posting this will help someone from Mitchell will reach out. After many years of personal car buying across different brands and car makers, this was a difficult sales experience with high pressure tactics and sales staff who were not transparent or friendly. Ended up buying from their competitor, Gengras Volvo in East Hartford, who were a pleasure to deal with, had the car of my choice and gave me a much better deal in the end. Very disappointed as Simsbury are my local dealer and expect much more from a luxury car provider catering to clients making considered (and often $$$) purchases. I wanted my daughters first car buying experience at a dealership to be free of the stereotypical negativity we associate with that process but that was not the case at Mitchell Volvo. The car dealership is lovely, the car was very nice and clean, the salesman and manager were extremely professional and friendly. But once my daughter said she wanted the car and committed with a deposit, our salesperson returned from the finance office to let us know he had made an error and unless we financed the car, the cost would be $3,000 more versus the "dealer discount." First we heard of it and I spoke to owners of two other dealerships in New Britain and Danbury who confirmed that was a crummy business practice. But at this point, my hands were tied because my girl wasn't leaving without this car. The Mitchell folks said she could just pay it off quickly which is true, but that's not the point: they wanted to make money with a financing arrangement and took advantage. And they tried to tell us that the extra $3k made the price the market value for the car but according to NADA and KBB, that was not the case. There were some other tactics that I knew enough about to decline: engraving the VIN for a fee, GAP insurance, warranties. I was so hoping for a more honest and positive experience but hey, I get it, they need to make money. I just didn't want it to be at my daughter's expense (literally). BAIT & SWITCH; We test drove two cars and were ready to purchase a Certified Pre-owned Volvo S60 and when we got to the paperwork process, we discovered their Unethical pricing practices. They charge a $1,499 Simonizing fee for a service that is allegedly done in advance and an illegal $300 VIN etching fee where, as of 7/1/22 per Public Act 97236, it prohibits dealers from etching the VIN on any vehicle in their inventory prior to its sale or lease without the written consent of the vehicle's purchaser or lessee. Kyle is the rude manager, he showed us on the website where it shows the $1,499 Simonizing charge. I stated that there should be an asterisk by the advertised price alerting the consumer that the price on the website is not the real price for the car as the real price is $1,799 higher than the advertised price ($1,499 Simonizing plus $300 VIN etching). I was under the impression that this was a reputable dealership, and it is NOT! Both the salesperson and the manager tried to show how this car was a great deal compared to other similar cars but that is also based on misinformation as they are basing the comparison on the advertised price and not the inflated real price that one would pay. I wish that I had read the reviews on Yelp and Google in advance as they show similar bad experiences. I recommend that you avoid Mitchell Volvo. If you were charged a VIN etching fee without your consent after 7/1/22 I recommend that you contact the Dept of Motor Vehicles dealer complaint line at 860-263-5405 to get your money back from the unethical dealer. read more

Overall negative experience here that has left us feeling terrible. They get 2 stars because not everything was terrible, and they do in fact carry Volvos as promised. Beyond that, I can't recommend this place at all. We went one recent weekend to browse used cars. The salesperson who helped us initially was pretty mediocre. We took the car for a test drive, liked it, and started negotiations. We have perfect credit, and were still offered a pretty high rate for the financing. We were also informed by a man at the front desk that "the vast majority of our clients can come here on weekdays and don't need to be here on weekends." That made us feel like outcasts for browsing on a weekend. Did he think we were too poor to be there on a weekday? The comment was so holier-than-thou and made us feel like second-class citizens. He added that their clientele was out skiing and at the beach on weekends. So classist, classless, and ironic coming from a guy sitting behind the desk at a car dealership on a Saturday, but I digress. With that bad taste in our mouths, we took the night to think about it, and decided we wanted to look at a different car with lower mileage that was a bit newer. So we started negotiations on that car. Mitchell hardly budged on the price and insisted on adding a $500 "doc fee" on top of the price (which is basically a made-up fee for the dealership to make more money.) They were inflexible and seemed totally ambivalent about securing our business or reaching a deal. In the middle of negotiations on the car we wanted, the very day we were negotiating, we received a call from them telling us that the car we had been negotiating on had been sold! No right of first refusal, no warning, nothing. They said they had a long-time client who wanted it and they sold it to him. We could not believe our ears. We had not made a deposit, but it still seemed incredibly unethical and lousy to do that to us when we were in negotiations on that very vehicle. Basically, they sold it to someone who was likely willing to pay more or who they just wanted to deal with more than they wanted to deal with us. We really want a Volvo, and we have plenty of money to spend, but I guess this dealership is too good to take our money. Which is ironic because the Porsche, Audi and Mercedes dealerships we have worked with previously had absolutely no problem taking our money and treating us like valued clients. read more

Bottom Line: Don't go here - service is terrible! Volvo service could not fix my XC90, but they charged me $363.72 anyway. Backstory: I had the car towed in because it wouldn't start. They misdiagnosed the problem, could not fix it and so I had to have the car towed somewhere else to get it fixed. But they still charged me $363.72, and now they are just ignoring my requests for a refund, despite the photographic proof I have. Details: On July 15, 2013 we had our 2004 Volvo XC90 towed by AAA into Mitchell's, because it would not start. The service department kept our car for a week, but only spent three hours looking at it. We were charged $363.72 but they did not fix the car, and they told us they had no idea how to fix the car. Mitchells diagnostics said that fuel injector signal and timing was okay and all in specification. We had to have it towed to another shop. It turned out the valves were bent because the timing was off and the belt tensioner was loose or broken which caused the problems in the first place. These were not found inspection by Mitchell mechanics. The engine ended up needing to be completely replaced. We spoke with the new customer service manager, Ryan Williams, who was not in charge of this department during the week Mitchells had our car. Ryan has been stringing us along for a month and has just told us that he would not help us. Given the gross oversight given the gross mis-management we are asking for a refund of $363.72 please. read more

With a 2010 Saab its hard to find competent mechanics for routine repairs. My first experience was getting a key fob for $200 less than the service department in East Hartford wanted. Brought my car back in this week to have it checked out after hearing a noise in the front. The mechanics checked my car for everything possible for free Turns out i did have a problem with a broken coil and sway bar and a vacuum pump. Very much a safety issue. They didn't have a part so they kindly gave me a 2021 loaner car for a day. They also were courteous and very honest. Gave me a small discount as well. OUTSTANDING customer service from Scott and Rick. I am a fan and highly recommend anyone looking for a Saab Repair to go to them. Karen read more

Test drove a beautiful white 2016 Volvo XC70 on 2-27-2021. Drove, handled, and performed as new. Perfect car and planned to seal the deal. Then noticed excessive smoke/steam from the rear of the car/exhaust. Check the oil filter cap and noticed a white goo or sludge on the inside of the cap. Reviewed this with Joe the sale associate and indicated I would like to have this checked by the service department to determine the actual condition of the engine. Expressed that we were still interested but want to have it reviewed and repaired. As we were discussing this Kyle Skiba the general sales manager approached and indicated he personally bought this car and it had no issues. I indicated it has water in the engine crankcase and may need a head gasket. Kyle rudely stated he would not be replacing the head gasket, that the car is perfect. His attitude was very confrontational, argumentative, and blatantly arrogant. I offered to still buy the car knowing they would need to repair it within the 90 day warrantee. Kyle stated he would not enter into a deal with me with this potential issue immediately after insisting that the car was perfect with no issues. Kyle stated he had 2 other people looking at it later that day. Very concerning that he is going to pass this off to some other unsuspecting customer. Buyer beware. read more

Great buying experience! After eight years, I decided to replace my car. I narrowed the search to a few makes and two of them were in stock at Mitchell at attractive prices. I contacted Mitchell through the website and salesman Alan Selinger promptly emailed me back. We set a time to see the cars and I headed out on a Saturday for the appointment. Alan saw me right away and took me on test drives in both cars. We covered a fair amount of territory, so I got a good feel for the cars. While we were driving, the Mitchell folks evaluated my trade. I ended up with a very good price on the trade and I decided on a Volvo. Negotiations were short and sweet. Alan and his manager gave me a price, I asked for time to think about it and got no pressure. We arrived at a compromise that I think worked for both of us. I met with the finance guy (something I have not done before but heard was akin to root canal), and found that experience just as easy as the purchase. Lou found me better financing than my pre-approved rate at my credit union and we did the papers. Maybe there's less to add to a used car sale, but there was no high pressure to add on extras. They offered an extended warranty, but there was nothing heavy-handed at all. Transfer of plates, insurance and all those details were handled quickly by Mitchell. They worked directly with my insurance agent and got it all squared away. The car was ready for me the next day. When I picked up the car, Alan had it washed and ready. He gave me a rundown on operational basics and helped me connect my phone with Bluetooth. Over all, I found the buying experience to be excellent. Alan is a friendly, helpful salesman, everyone greeted me warmly on each visit and the showroom is well-maintained. Oh, and who doesn't like free coffee? If I got treated this well on a used car purchase I can only imagine what it's like when you buy new! I bought my first Volvo in July, 2017. I was fortunate enough to have Rob Lemerre (sp) greet my husband and I and assist in planning out what car I should buy. I ended up with an XC90 which I absolutely LOVE!!! Never mind the car for a moment, let's talk about the staff at Mitchell Volvo. Rob was and continues to be a "lifeline" when I have questions about my car. He takes my calls promptly and is patient and extremely helpful. Most of the time, over the phone, he can guide me and tell me what to do or where something might be. If he cannot, he invites me into the showroom and either shows me or gets someone else from service involved if it's something he's unsure about. Brandon from the service department is awesome. He takes his time in explaining things and really makes sure you're all set before bidding you farewell. When you walk into the dealership there is not one person who greets you but an entire dealership from Lindsey at the front desk to every salesperson who is on floor! Amazing, absolutely amazing. At the time I purchased my car Ozzie was at this location before moving to another Mitchell owned dealership. He was also most helpful. Need a new car? Looking for a dealership that really cares? My auto body mechanic ordered a bumper from their parts department on the 2nd of December. Understandably, with COVID they close at 4 eastern daily. Not a problem if their response time for returning phone calls and emails was adequate but it isn't. It's now the 11th of December and when my mechanic reaches out to them today for tracking information, they send a tracking number that hasn't even been sent to Yellow Truck freight company yet, translation: they never sent the bumper on the 2nd. Call Customer Service and you're interrogated as to why you need to speak to the general manager. I've since left a message with Dan, the general manager, and await his call. I'm hoping this is a snafu and the part was shipped 9 days ago as originally communicated and I can update this review to a positive one, but as of this moment-what's the point of going to a dealership where you don't get proper servicing on the back end? Let me start by saying I have purchased two automobiles from Mitchell back when they were a Saab dealer and went to Simsbury, which is a 30 minute drive for me, last week to test drive and look at the new Volvo XC90. Met the sales guy there named Mark and he was fine. Knew the car and seemed like a decent fellow. My wife and I had to get back to pick up my daughter from school so I asked him to send me the quote on the vehicle so I could review. Waited a few days and nothing. Since they didn't send anything I went a head and entered my info into the USAA car buying service and immediately had 5 volvo dealers contact me (one of which was the sales manager, Kyle Skiba from Mitchell). In the email he knew I was workign with Mark and had been in to take a test drive. He asked if there was anything else he could do and I answered and told him I was still waiting for them to send me a quote and he told that they would not do that and would not send me a price via email or phone and was trying to strong arm me to come back to the dealership so he could give me "the best deal". I explained to him that I had already been there, done the test drive and was working with one of his sales people and he still wouldn't send it. I actually started to laugh and immediatley crossed them off the list. Maybe its me but I don't get it. Mitchell Auto Group was extremely courteous, professional, and did a great job on my Subaru (which was dented and scratched) despite having no advanced notice and a packed schedule since I do not live in the area. Would highly recommend them to others. read more

My recent experience at MItchell Volvo of Simsbury has been terrible, as I will never consider purchasing another vehicle at this dealership. I purchased my Volvo from Mitchell Volvo in Simsbury a little over three years ago. Since then I have always returned there for any necessary servicing. Having used many different service companies in the past, I can honestly say I have never had better service anywhere else. They are always sincere, polite, professional, helpful and knowledgeable.
