Mita Cafe feels like a home away from home I tried the Japanese curry w/ chicken, Gyūdon (Japanese style beef + rice bowl with pickled veggies (my fav part)), the watermelon juice and the Ethiopian tea. Everything was delicious, and even though I came a few minutes before closing the owners let me stay and eat (they were so sweet). I also learned that they met while they were both working at the Japanese Embassy in Ethiopia. There's also a cute store full of Ethiopian + Japanese goodies like Habesha cookies, Pocky, and ramen. Stopped here for a night coffee. I have heard great things about this cafe and the google reviews inclined me to go. I wasn't too hungry when I arrived but really wanted to try their peanut infused coffees. I opted for the chai. It was really good, I didn't really know what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like peanut butter you will love this drink.

Mita Cafe was an amazing experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was incredibly comfortable and relaxing, with cozy seating by the window that made it the perfect place to enjoy a meal and unwind. The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented--I especially enjoyed the sushi and matcha drink, which paired perfectly together. The service was outstanding as well. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making me feel valued as a customer. The combination of great food, excellent service, and a comfortable environment made this a place I would happily visit again. Highly recommend Mita Cafe to anyone looking for a great meal and a relaxing dining experience!

The food was DELICIOUS!! Everything was so deeply flavorful. This is my third time coming and I had to review. I haven't been disappointed yet. The people here are so sweet. Disclaimer Before Dining: This is a small family owned restaurant. They don't have many people working here. The same lady taking orders is also cooking the food. Be respectful and mindful when you come in. If you're in a rush, this place is not for you.

There aren't many places on the planet that sell sushi next to sambusa. Or injera next to gyudon. But Mita Cafe does a great job fusing Ethiopian and Japanese cultures in a little shop. I just ordered the Ethiopian Tea (iced, it's similar to a sweet tea with a hint of an herbal taste) and the matcha smoothie with banana. Both drinks were executed to perfection despite a small staff working there. The cafe also includes a store where you can buy Japanese and Ethiopian goods.

Holy sh*t Mita Ethio-Japanese is the best kept secret in DC. I just had the most insane sushi of my life: fresh nigiri, perfect rolls, and then bam--Ethiopian spices creeping in like they belong there. The Tokio Papa platter? Chef's kiss. Owners are actual angels--warm, funny, even let me try their tea and shared their story!! Not fancy, just REAL. If you're near Kennedy St NW, stop whatever you're doing and go. 11/10, I'm obsessed and will be looking forward to my next visit !!!

Mita Cafe is super cute! This small cafe offers both Ethiopian and Japanese eats, in addition to breakfast, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, smoothies, and juices. While in the area, we decided to try them out, and ordered: +a Strawberry with Mango smoothie - prepared with mangoes, strawberries, and bananas, made with either your choice of apple or guava juice; we opted for the latter +an order of Spicy Lentil Samboosas - they also have spicy chicken as a filling, too; these are larger than the usual sized sambusas; super crispy, but I thought the filling was way too spicy! +a Tokyo Sushi set - this came with 4 pieces of salmon nigiri, a tuna nigiri, a red snapper nigiri, a roll of salmon maki, and a roll of tuna avocado maki; I really enjoyed the salmon nigiri, and most likely will opt for requesting these only; wasn't really a fan of the maki rolls, as one that contained 'baked salmon' tasked like it was from a tin I'd love to try their paninis next time and get more of their salmon nigiri. I'd also like to try their drinks. Service was very friendly and kind! There are only about 4 tables inside, so most seem to get their orders to go, or there's a queue to get one of the tables. What a charming cafe--a true DC hidden gem! Mita's eclectic menu, beautiful interior, and wonderful staff make this restaurant one to put on your list. I have yet to find sushi in DC that I really enjoyed--that is, until now! Classic California and Philadelphia rolls were elevated by high-quality ingredients and exquisite attention to detail. I could have scarfed down all twelve pieces by myself. Next time, I'm not sharing with a friend! DC is a haven for great Ethiopian food, and this vegetarian platter absolutely hit the mark. The lentils were exquisite. As always, if there's injera in my hand, I'm happy. The highlight of the meal was the Turkey melt on a perfectly flaky croissant. I recently traveled to France and can confirm that no croissant lived up to this sandwich. The perfectly melty and slightly crispy cheese, combined with a great and slightly spicy sauce, made this sandwich an absolute winner. To cap off this wonderful experience, the owner Misrak was absolutely lovely and so welcoming. I hope she enjoyed my company because I will DEFINITELY be seeing her many more times in the future.

This is a neighborhood gem! The food is great and Mita is very friendly. I love the green smoothie and it's the only smoothie shop in the area. This is a go-to lunch spot for me!

I got the ethio veggie platter and an americano and everything was amazing--especially the lentils. The hospitality was on point, everyone working here was lovely, very helpful and willing to chat. I was a big fan of the bread that came with my meal, and one of the ladies working here helped me buy some to take home. The interior is pleasantly quiet and well decorated, and the cafe is located in a very nice neighborhood. My only complaint is that it isn't closer to where I live... Regardless, I will be coming back soon.

Such a cute cafe! My friend & I were going on a hike in rock creek that day so we wanted to get something small nearby. Mita cafe was the perfect place for that. It's a wholesome cafe with affordable sandwiches & drinks! They also had sushi & Ethiopian food since the owners are Japanese & Ethiopian. I really enjoyed my time here. The owners are really sweet & even gave us some sushi to try at the end of our meal. I had the tofu melt which really good! It was a good price too. Would definitely come here again

Anytime I've visited Mita, I always found the atmosphere friendly, warm and inviting. Misrat and Takehiko, the owners, are so nice. The chicken panini, the cooked salmon sushi and iced chai are all hits! The homemade cookies, chocolate mousse and cheesecake are all good deserts as well. I recomend supporting this local business next time you'd like sushi, a sandwich or one of the multiple healthy items that have in their store. They really are the best! read more

I just left Mita but can't wait to return to try more of the menu!! This cafe is an absolute gem - cozy, welcoming, delicious. A friend had told me about this unique combination (where else can you find an Ethio-Japanese cafe?!) and it did not disappoint! Picked this spot for a quick and cheap bite to eat after a nice walk in Rock Creek Park. Definitely a great spot to relax and unwind. Owners were super welcoming and prepared our food fresh made-to order. Got the Turkey panini and definitely hit the spot. Would highly recommend if you're in the area. Last week one of my best friends asked if I could meet him at Mita for a quick lunch break, I had ordered a panini to go one time so I figured it would be a great chance to try another one. We ended up grabbing one of their tables, ordering sushi and paninis and their signature Ethiopian tea. It was delicious. The bread for the paninis is fresh and made to perfection. The sushi is fresh made as well and is very tasty. The tea was really good! My favorite part however was discovering that the Ethiopian/Japanese fusion restaurant is also a boutique plant store! I thought they were just decor because the place is very uniquely and nicely decorated but they are for sale! They have some really cool plants and planters for decent prices, of course I snagged one. The customer service was great as well! This is truly a neighborhood gem, if you drove past or walked past and thought about giving it a try... think no longer... DO IT! read more

I really enjoyed the food at Mita cafe. Every dish I have tried has been really good from the sandwiches, paninis, wraps, sushi and recently the vegetarian dish. It's always nice to come back for a macha with almond milk or for the homemade cookies which are my weakness. read more

I'm new to the area so when I read a Japanese Ethiopian fusion restaurant I had to go check it out. I went for breakfast and order the Tokyo sushi, and they made it fresh right there and then for me. It was delicious and so was their Ethiopian coffee. Will be coming back with more people. read more

Mita Cafe is one of my favorite spots to grab a bite to eat. I'm Ethiopian very picky about both Ethiopian food and sushi and this place consistently exceeds my expectations! The sushi is delicious and fresh, Ethiopian food is flavorful and filling, and the sandwiches and panini offerings are perfect for a quick midday lunch. The Ethiopian tea is also fantastic and I never hesitate to grab a bite and sip when I'm missing my family, it just tastes like home. So glad to have Mita here! read more

My wife and I rented a Airbnb in the area. We saw this restaurant on Yelp. What a cute restaurant with unique, global menu options! The food was yummy. The ambience was homey and warm. This place is a gem that should stay open forever. The coffee is quite good, the sandwiches and wraps are delicious, the sushi is really good and the prices are really fair. Great selection. The only draw back is sometimes you have to wait a little bit since the cafe is operated by the husband and the wife, but that is also part of its charm. My wife and I commit to lunch here once a week with coffees and sushi sprinkled in. This is the best food on Kennedy street this side of Georgia Ave. read more

Kind, sweet husband and wife team. Good food and drinks with a friendly atmosphere! It is a unique combination, Ethiopian and Japanese. I like the fact that they maintain the spirit of both cuisines in this little café. I did not try the salmon panini, but have on good authority that it was delicious. Their Ethiopian tea and cheesecake cup were nice, as well. read more

I called the number that was listed and I believe it was the owner of the cafe but he was extremely polite and had one of the staff members come outside to place my order. I mean that alone speaks volumes on how the establishment is ran. I also learned that I could place an order online in case I'm unable to go inside again. Mita Cafe is absolutely wonderful! I got the peanut-infused rosemary tea, spicy lentil sambusas, and sautéed tofu panini. Every bite was delicious. I can't wait to try the chicken curry and gyudon beef bowl next time. The owner(?) was the kindest person; she was so helpful and even brought us complimentary sushi rolls. The ambiance is cozy; it would be the perfect spot for an intimate meal or co-working hang. It feels like home. Best of all, there's a delightful market attached to the restaurant where you can stock up on garlic injera chips, ramen, mochi ice cream, and more! Hey! Second time coming to sit and dine at Mita Cafe and the food is delicious every time! I started out with having the Peanut Butter Espresso! It was nice, warm and hearty! Then followed up with the Japanese Curry accompanied by Miso Soup and Spring Mix Salad! The Japanese curry is on point and reminded me my visit to Japan! Came across this place randomly while walking around my neighborhood. Japanese and Ethiopian seemed like an old combo but it works. I think the place is owned by a couple of each ethnicity.
