Such a neighborhood gem! I love their matcha latte, that's it, that's all! Every time I go, I always experience amazing service and drink. The cafe is pretty spacious, with a good amount of seating. I love the ever and ambiance also. I was watching my puphew and he was having a fit so I couldn't go inside to place my order. I called the number that was listed and I believe it was the owner of the cafe but he was extremely polite and had one of the staff members come outside to place my order. I mean that alone speaks volumes on how the establishment is ran. I also learned that I could place an order online in case I'm unable to go inside again. Not ashamed to admit I'm a sucker for these small friendly independently owned eclectic chic coffee joints. The attractive exterior reeled me over to check it out, the relaxed but chic interior lured me inside, and the very friendly :-) service & fair prices will bring me back. I think it's fair to say this is my favorite new coffee place in dc. Relaxed, family friendly, not overcrowded like some other tinier neighborhood coffee shops... And oh gee, did I mention they have their own roaster right inside? This is the closest place I've come across to take up the mantle of down-to-Earth, high quality, great value neighborhood coffee roasters since Qualia (RIP) closed their doors. I just love this place. I ordered a ice matcha latte and a coffee. The service was great. I had a nice convo with my barista. There were several customers who seem to be regulars. I've been to this coffee shop multiple times since August of last year. I love everything I have ordered from this place. The caramel latte is my favorite, their oat milk has a very rich taste. The Dirty Horchata was new for me. It reminded me of a Chai latte. I am not a huge fan of Chai, despite that it was still enjoyable. I've gotten their caramel latte with their lavender foam and it was good! Their chicken empanadas are a 10/10 and their breakfast sandwiches are great as well. Despite different baristas the consistency of their coffee keeps me coming. Their employees are also so sweet. I love to read in here as it isn't too loud and the vibe is really nice. read more

This is SUCH a cute spot. The decor is so beautiful and welcoming. It was a rainy Sunday morning but it was so busy and filled with people! We got simple lates and a crumb cake but they were delicious! They have a great menu so we will sure to be back and try more. read more

Big fan of my neighborhood spot here, even though they moved a few blocks farther away from me :) Overall a great local, independent coffee shop! I love the new space--it's pretty spacious with board games, toys for kids, and plenty of seating of different types. Location is also convenient, as it's in the main strip on Kennedy near the record store, ice cream shop, pizza place, etc. The coffee tastes great and is ethically sourced, which is so important. I'm so glad they expanded their menu, too! There are more pastries on offer (including vegan scones) and bites for lunch like sandwiches and empanadas. My only wish is for more substantial plant based options! read more

I have been meaning to try La Coop for a while now. I was impressed with how vibrant and inviting their cafe is. I ordered an iced latte with maple & some pastries. The croissant was delicious. The latte, however, had too much sweetener, which I didn't realize until I had already been gone for a few minutes and couldn't turn back to ask them to remake it. At first, I thought the maple strip was just on the bottom but even drinking only from the top, there was too much added maple syrup to finish the beverage. With that said, I will definitely be back. I could tell from the smell of the establishment and the less sweet sips of my drink that their coffee is delicious. read more

I stopped in around 11am on a Thursday to work for about an hour, looking for a warm and inviting place to have a coffee and a croissant and that's exactly what I got. They have the WiFi information proudly displayed by where you pick up your coffee so no need to worry about bothering these hard working people for the information. Most of the small tables have two seats and there is one area with about four large chairs. The space did fill up quickly on this holiday but it was a nice place to work and for new scenery. I've been here about 5 times yet I have never had a good latte or a good cup of coffee.....not even a drinkable one. I've thrown them away each time. The pastries are good but the customer service is hit or miss. It's a cute place but the attitude of the staff and the terrible lattes/coffee spoils it. read more

We have missed La Coop SO much and are overjoyed that they are back and better than ever. The new location is huge, stunningly decorated inside with warm greens and golds and fun wallpaper. They also have the cutest outdoor area good for kids and big groups. The food is elevated now too! Breakfast sandwiches galore! We had the Kennedy street which had bacon and cheese on a scone, so good. The staff is just as wonderful as they always were. So glad to have our weekend spot back!! read more

La Coop truly has brightened and improved the neighborhood, particularly its immediate area of Kennedy St. It transformed its corner of Kennedy and 5th, which had been vacant, run-down, and depressed for years. The café, inside and out, and grounds, are beautiful. The décor, furnishings, and lighting are lovely, artistic, and warm. The staff and ambiance are also warm, friendly and easy-going. Their coffee (usually I order a drip, black) is delicious. Recently I tried their hot horchata, which wasn't hot (was warm) but tasted good; very sweet. This is a different location, namely on 5th and Kennedy, in the Brightwood Park neighbourhood. However, they opened this new spot only because they had a dispute with the owner of the previous spot and thus had to shut it down. I do have to admit I liked the previous location better, it was such an exceptional setting for a café, feeling and looking like a nice residential house. But I do have to say, they really made the most out of this more commercially set space, with lots of bright windows, diverse types of tables and seats (including sofa chairs), and a high ceiling. Friendly staff with whom one could do a bit of bantering while waiting for one's coffee. The croissant was fine/normal, and the decaf cappuccino (followed by decaf coffee) tasty, though the cappucino was more mildly warm than hot. I like how it's off the beaten path, so the crowd seems to be mainly folks from the neighbourhood. Eclectic kind of crowd, both the laptop and the social types. During my last visit, however -- around 11am on 10/4 -- the guy working the register, who refused to give his name, decided it was appropriate to raise his voice at my wife because of an issue with the order (he had forgotten to get it started). We've enjoyed La coop since we moved to DC. The coffee was good and else enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately the quality of service has gone down hill since they reopened and we will no longer be frequenting La Coop. I placed an online order. About 5 minutes after the order was supposed to be ready, I asked about the status. The barista said they were having issues with online ordering system. I said no problem and sat back down. About 10 minutes later I checked on the order again and the barista told me they were having issues with the ordering and it didn't print. They then asked for my name and then began working on the order. I asked why it had taken so long to start the order and the barista again said the order didn't print so they didn't know what was in the order. I said I understand, but why didn't you check what was included on the order when I asked the first time. And he said he had other customers. I said that doesn't make sense, we are also customers, he then said he forgotten about it. At no point did he apologize for forgetting about the order. About 10 minutes later they said the order was ready and one of the drinks was missing. Again no apologized, he acted as though I was inconveniencing him. I asked for a refund as it was now 30 minutes after the order was supposed to be ready and was told I needed to contact the owner. read more
