I loved this place!!! I thought this restaurant was solid when it came to food, a nice view, and service. To start, the inside is really beautiful...but the outside view is the star of the show. We were able to see downtown san diego, and the planes coming in to land. This place has the best view to take pictures at. The food itself was also really good. We all enjoyed the food and thought the food matched with its price. I also loved the desserts that we got! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name but I have inserted pictures. The service itself was amazing as well. The servers were always checking in on us, and were very patient when we kept asking them to take pictures. One server even asked if we wanted a photo without us having to ask. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion or even an excuse if you want to dress up nice! I would definitely come again.
Ambiance..gorgeous views and seating galore Service..friendly..amazing Food..amazing..so many veggie and gf options..we had the bread with butter..potato soup..eggplant..tater tots..risotto..zucchini skewers..mushrooms..the expresso martini was so smooth..the choc mouse and hawaiin desserrt was best ending.
Mister A's has a beautiful atmosphere and an amazing view, especially around sunset. The restaurant feels elegant and the service was very good -- attentive, professional, and pleasant. For me, the food was the part that didn't quite match the overall experience. Everything was fine, but nothing really stood out or felt especially memorable considering the level of the restaurant. I expected a little more from the food. Still a beautiful place for the atmosphere, service, and views. 4 stars.
My wife and I made Mister A's as our once or twice a year spot for special occasions. The risotto is our favorite, we ordered it every time when we come here. Usually restaurants which have view are not quite specialized on their food, but here they have it all. The view, food quality and services are all beyond expectations, and with the price that you wont lose your appetite when you see the bill.
We went to Mr. A's on a Thursday to try their happy hour fried chicken Thursdays, and man was it delicious. The three sauces: blue cheese, honey, mustard, and buffalo sauces well with the fries and chicken we also tried their caviar crème fraîche sauce which was good but honestly saved the $20 and put it towards the extra red velvet cake and mini tiramisu for an extra eight dollars and five dollars respectively. Our server Elizabeth treated us like family and and made sure that we had a really awesome dining experience. Looking at the happy hour menu it makes me really want to come back on the other days to try their other happy hour menu items like the Wagyu burger, Wednesdays, and lobster grilled cheese Mondays. Definitely will be back to try their regular dining menu.
DINING AMONGST THE UNWASHED MASSES Even though I have an entourage of assistants who can bring food from the restaurant of my choice at any time, and the option of having my personal chef recreate any dish from any menu, and have the financial wherewithal to buy 10 Manchester Buildings and line them up in my backyard... And even though I generally avoid the gawking-for-celebs energy of a snarky crowd armed with iphones, I do have the singular ability to shut down any restaurant at any time so I can eat there with my gaggle of hangers-on... unbothered by normies. With or without a reservation. Slipping the maître d a few Benjamins helps. So why do I come here? Well, sometimes I just want to be regular and enjoy dinner with the girls. I go out to dinner to participate in idle gossip, be irritated by the rudeness of strangers, and talk about quantum mechanics. Just kidding, talk about skincare, shopping spirals and social media. Duh. On the downside, the group thought they were merely joining a few rich out-of-state tourists sipping cosmos in $900 Christian Louboutin heels. But they found themselves broiling inside the white-hot center of the zeitgeist. This is due to the fact that... I can't leave home without my array of bodyguards, who perch at each corner of the room. In addition to threatening phone-wielding stalkers and walking me to and from the restroom, my security team serves a third purpose: discretely paying the bill with my $5K annual fee Black Card. We ordered the prix-fixe menu and two drinks each. The bill was $4,500, or 5 pair of shoes. The tip was, well I never like to talk about money. The "tea" was free. And the best part was nobody asked for a selfie or an autograph. I guess the memory of seeing me was enough. Pro tip: fine dining with wrap-around patio seating. Unbeatable top-floor views of downtown, San Diego Airport and Balboa Park. Classic 60's charm but modernized. We were there for a retro pre-fixe dinner which included Waldorf salad or lobster bisque, Beef Wellington or Steak Diane, and Cherries Jubilee or Baked Alaska. Food and service were impeccable.
The view was so cool! You can see planes taking off and landing and it's cool because you are above the planes at a certain path. If you time a photo correctly, you can get a great shot! We sat inside by a window for brunch. Everything tasted good and the server was really personable. There's a dress code which is a little lax for brunch, but do make sure you review it.
Mr A's downtown San Diego 12th floor. We had a special dinner here tonight truly a dinner to be remembered. The chef takes great care in making wonderful dishes I had the steak Dianne with mashed potatoes We also had beef Wellington We also had cherries Jubilee, but they didn't flame it up in a pan like we expected. The service here tonight was absolutely fantastic The ambience was nice and quiet for the first hour, but then normally after many people arrive the decibels go up.
This was for my BIRTHDAY July 4, 2026 I had never been here but the night was Amazing! The views of the city were breath taking. Especially enjoyed when the planes flew by heading into SD airport. When we made it to evening the lights were incredible all over the city! The USA flag was Brazil and we got pictures to prove it.
Went on a Wednesday evening and it was great. Reservations are easy online. We did find it humorous all the signs about dress code, it really isn't that strict but they keep mentioning it. The view is fantastic and probably the main selling point. The salmon Wellington was an unexpected treat, it seemed so simple but perfectly done. I'm not sure why everyone loved the whipped butter and baguette though, it was nothing special. The tuna crudo and pork belly were delicious, I just wish there was more. Dessert was a bit rich, we got the mousse. The waiter was great, very low key and balanced being helpful with staying out of the way marvelously. Lots of drink options and they came out very fast. Was it worth the $300 for 2 people? Probably not, but it wasn't as far off as I went into it expecting. Besides the bread everything was spot on. Would I go back? I would consider it for special occasions.

I always thought this was one of those restaurants you go to mainly for the view and just put up with mediocre food (cough cough... Seneca), but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was actually pretty good. I ordered the 10 oz braised short rib with truffle fries. Usually at restaurants like this, the portions are on the smaller side, but I definitely left full. The short rib was really tender and tasted good, although it was pretty similar to short ribs I've had at other places. Still, it was a safe choice for a first visit and I'd order it again. Easily one of the best restaurant views in San Diego.
We had the pleasure of going to Mr. A's for a sunset anniversary celebration for my parents. First, the service was impeccable and went out of their way to make the night special. The venue location itself is gorgeous with amazing views. Keep in mind you're near the airport so you'll see a lot of airplanes. It's actually pretty cool. The food was maybe the best meal I've had in my life. The drinks were really well balanced, and the desserts were astonishing, especially the baked Alaskan. This meal was amazing. What a wonderful time!

This review is solely for Thursday Aperitif Menu. From 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm on Sunday - Thursday there is an Aperitif Menu. It varies based on the day and on Thursday it was the TRIPLE-DIPPED JIDORI FRIED CHICKEN. We opted to add the caviar crème fraîche as well. Personally, I thought it was the weakest option food wise compared to the rest of the menu. I'm happy that we also got the tartare and dessert as it made the meal more worth it to go out during the week. Service is always top notch and the drinks are always delicious. I got the ZEN & THE ART OF and it's definitely more herb forward than lychee. Overall, I'll always come back for regular dinner or aperitif hour but maybe not on Thursdays. read more

Server Izzy called our entire table poor when I didn't want the most expensive vodka on the menu for my martini. My friend was also accosted by Izzy when she asked for a food menu and was told, "not to ask for the menu until drinks are done." Also, what kind of fascist restaurant REQUIRES you to order entrees?? We made a table reservation, as there were 5 of us expected and we wanted to experience the city views that Mister A's is known for. Did not know we would be accosted by our server Izzy AND the manager because we only wanted drinks and appetizers. No but seriously, never had a restaurant say we HAVE to order something. It's giving struggling restaurant and give us all your money. The way we were treated was beyond shameful and disgusting, would not return unless you have a degradation or humiliation kink. read more
After booking a reservation as far out as possible for an outdoor table, we were seated against the glass where we could watch the arrivals at Lindbergh. You are on the 12th floor so it gets windy! This is not a place you dine dressed in jeans, T-shirts, or flip-flops. They have a dress-code (stated online) and that is one aspect that drew us to want to dine here. And they upheld it, asking people who thought they could get away with it, to leave. Wonderful! They also advised the patrons rudely taking photos next to your table repeatedly that there was a designated place for that. Again, wonderful! The waitstaff were friendly and patient while we enjoyed our bottle of wine and delicious bread and accompaniments. The manager/sommelier was thoughtful and helpful in choosing a wine from their curated cellar. Next we ordered a Caesar salad and the Soup Du Jour, both were excellent. From there we moved on to our main course which included the Ribeye with maître D butter and reduction, and the King Salmon Wellington. My husband ordered a side of truffle fries and enjoyed them more than the potato cake under his steak. Lastly, we split the Sweetcorn Sticky Toffee Pudding. Such a unique take on it and it was delicious, the figs added a much needed fresh element to balance such sweetness. We will definitely be coming back after the experience exceeded our expectations! Ambiance is top notch as this place offers beautiful views of San Diego bay and downtown. Food was good, service was excellent as the waitress gave us good recommendations for wine pairings for our entrees. Slightly pricey, but overall worth it for an annual dinner date. read more
I've been coming to Mr. A's for years, and no matter how much time passes, it never loses its magic. From the moment you walk in, everything about the experience feels elevated: the atmosphere, the service, the incredible food, and of course the breathtaking view that never fails to impress. Whether it's your first visit or your hundredth, Mr. A's always feels like a beautiful escape from everyday life. The food has consistently been outstanding over the years, and the attention to detail in every part of the dining experience is what truly sets this place apart. The owner has done an amazing job creating something that feels both upscale and welcoming at the same time, which is rare to find. One person who made this place especially memorable for me was Jerry, a former employee who sadly passed away. He was the definition of exceptional hospitality and service. Jerry made every guest feel valued, remembered, and genuinely cared for. He represented the kind of professionalism and warmth that turns a great restaurant into a lasting memory. He is deeply missed, and I know many longtime guests will always remember him as part of what made Mr. A's so special. Even today, Mr. A's continues to deliver one of the best dining experiences around. Mister A's is a San Diego icon I haven't been here in probably 25 years It was my cousin's birthday so this is where we came to celebrate They gave us a fabulous half round table facing the airport View was spectacular Before the rest of the group arrived, I went to the bar and ordered a drink The view from the bar was facing Ballpark, but was obstructed Still the view to the south was lovely I've been meaning to come and check out the bar for quite some time and I will definitely come back We moved to the dining room and the service was spectacular. Five stars five diamonds whatever you want to call it. They offered to move our tab to the table, but I opted to close out The server carried our drinks to the table for us We had the most fabulous evening The food is amazing The service is top-notch. Nice to know that there still are some amazing servers. The view is spectacular I'm glad I was re-introduced to this place cause I definitely will be back for a special occasion read more
Valet parking entrance on 4th street. So far so good. Got here at 4pm to enjoy outdoor "Happy Hour" before our 5pm dinner. Thursday is Sips & Dips for $5 each. Had the Cheshire Cat and Caught in the Rain. Service was great. Lots of smiles and patient explaining of drinks and appetizers. Showed us a sampling of Sips & Dips. Service and ambience are amazing here -- it was a lovely spring atmosphere and golden hour was beautiful. We also enjoyed watching the planes fly by. That is what you're paying for when you come here, because unfortunately, the food was subpar. The bread appetizer was so good and fresh, but other than that, we didn't rate anything above a 7.5. The truffle fries were also pretty good. We were here for an anniversary and they did bring out a dessert at the end which was very nice. read more
I grew up in San Diego, but never checked this spot out. My dad used to love it! We booked for a bday and everything was phenomenal. The hostess, the service, the food, the views!!! It wraps around, there's not a bad view in the place. Loved the sunset over the city. read more
Mr. A's has always been a top choice for me when out of town guests are visiting. The views are pretty great and it's a nicer upscale restaurants with true San Diego classy charm. This was my first time back since their remodel a couple years ago and found it to have the same ambiance. I went for dinner to celebrate a birthday and had a great table right at the window. They had just celebrated their 60th anniversary and had some nice stemware announcing that. The wait staff were all very cordial but feel that since my last visit, the service wasn't quite up to par especially for a fine dining restaurant. The extensive wine list is impressive and the food choices are made to fit every preference. As for me, I ordered the Alaskan Black cod that melted in your mouth and had the most perfectly crisp skin Accompanying the fish were two small shrimp, fennel, and potatoes. While I enjoyed it, maybe a few more shrimp would've been nice. For dessert, the mint ice cream baked Alaska can only be described as decadent. As a huge fan of mint chocolate and brownies this was a perfect dessert for me. Presentation was spot on too. A last comment would be that while they acknowledged the birthday at the beginning there was nothing special done. Perhaps a birthday candle in our dessert at the least would've been nice. In all, another good dining experience with lovely views at Mr. A's that impressed my out of town guests. read more

Came here for a Valentine's Day brunch with my husband. It was great fine dining experience. Our waitress was helpful and service was attentive. She gave me a great wine suggestion. The views are beautiful! It's on 5th near balboa park a top floor with a rooftop patio. The interior design felt luxury and set a nice ambiance. I enjoyed how it didn't get too loud in there, even on a busy day. Food was amazing! It was a 3 course meal with complimentary pastries to start. I had the French onion soup as a starter and my husband had French toast. For the main course I had a chicken roulade with butternut squash risotto. It was so delicious, I need to learn to make it at home! My husband had steak, cooked perfectly at medium. To finish off the meal we had a chocolate fondue with an array of sweets. After checking out they gave us a couple truffle chocolates to take home. I will definitely consider coming here again! read more

Visited here for drinks only on their lovely patio that boasts 360 views of downtown SD ,the Coronado bay and the airport runway Views are pretty cool with a tasty cocktail in hand Standard prices- didn't try any of the food so can't comment on that Service was fine Definitely a place to bring out of town guests read more
Food: 12oz Ribeye was honestly the best steak I've had in a long time. I'm not the type to exaggerate, but it was textbook medium-rare, seasoned humbly so as to let the meat do the heavy lifting on the taste (as it should be), and very filling. The Carbonara Mac & Cheese was amazing, to the point that it fill you up very quickly. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were my favorite side; excellent crunch but not too dry either. Both sides are pretty big, so plan to share sides (there were 3 of us sharing the 2, and we still couldn't finish them). The Old-Fashioned and Espresso Mask were both solid choices. Service: Kristin was outstanding and very professional. She juggled a busy night, but kept her poise the entire time, checking on us regularly but not too often either. She gave us very helpful and honest advice (especially about portion sizes regarding the sides). My table's unanimous compliments to Kristin! Dress Code/Conduct: Business Casual is enforced. People have gotten denied entry, even with a reservation, so definitely don't show up in flip-flops/tanktops/other casual wear. They will email you a reminder about this. Don't be the table that's too loud or belligerent. Stay classy, or you will get kicked out (we watched a lady that had one too many get asked to leave politely (rightfully so)). Vibe: Views are absolutely incredible, especially at night. Christmas decor really set the holiday mood despite an odd 80 degrees in December. Definitely coming back here. Parking: Borderline non-existent in the area. I recommend getting an Uber/Lyft. read more

This place has been on our list for forever. Finally came here to celebrate a special occasion! Ambiance: Classy, elegant, formal. 10/10 views of the San Diego skyline and the airport - you can even see the runway! People love to sit on the patio and watch planes. They have a dress code but they emphasize it multiple times on their website and if you make a reservation, so it's hard to miss. Great if you're looking for a romantic, dimly lit, elevated atmosphere. If you're the kind of person who loves your flip-flops and is turned off by formal restaurants with stuffy pretentious atmospheres though, this place is not for you. Food: This is definitely the kind of place where you're paying for the ambiance/views as opposed to the food itself. Pretty standard fancy restaurant kind of menu and prices. Of everything we ordered, the tuna crudo was probably my favorite - nice unique bite-sized burst of flavor and super fresh. We weren't the biggest fans of the duck breast entree and would rather have our good ol' Peking duck instead. Salmon wellington was solid but not super memorable. They have rotating flavors for the baked Alaska by season, we got the apple pie but I thought it was a bit too sweet! Overall still worth it to come here overall for the lovely ambiance and views. Parking is street parking and the restaurant is at the top floor of what appears to be a corporate complex, make sure to check the instructions on the website before you go. read more

We went for 15th anniversary and Mister A's did not disappoint! Highly recommend for special occasions. We ate in dining room with a view of downtown , watching the planes land! Service was impeccable. Cleaned off table, folded napkins when we left table. Cocktails were great! We had Burnt Orange Old Fashioned with a custom ice cub with an A on it! Wife had Holy Spritz I think. Also nice. Appetizer we have Wagyu Tatare and Octopus Escargot style. Great tasting. One complaint; too many chips for Wagyu and not even bread for Octopus. My husband and I tried Mr. A's for the first time last night and it was a good spot to dine in if you enjoy good views. The food was ok it was on the smaller portion and flavor was just okay, nothing that wowed me and him , I was a bit disappointed but not discouraged . We understood the hype the views are amazing and drinks were not bad at all. I would not dine in again , however I would recommending to others for the views they are breathtaking overall 4 out of 5 stars.... read more
I have lived in San Diego all of my life and this was my first eating here. It was well worth the wait! The views are amazing. You can see the entire San Diego skyline. Our server was Mark and he was an absolute superstar! He went above and beyond to make our dinner enjoyable. The drinks were delicious and the food was fantastic! Those caviar tater tots gave me my life. I definitely recommend going here at least once for the experience. read more
Prime rib was yummy. Filet mignon taste was strange but both meat was extremely tender and cooked perfectly. I ordered a mocktail cheshire cat. It's great for anyone who enjoys cranberry. I loved it! A dear friend indulged us with a birthday treat at this premiere San Diego restaurant. We arrived early for our Brunch reservation. That enabled us to explore the interior and exterior of Mr A's at our leisure. Staff was very accommodating as we took photos, etc. The jazz band had already set up and were entertaining . The music was sultry and smooth - loud enough to tickle the senses but low enough for pleasant conversations with our friends. Wonderful staff. Loved the attentiveness, willingness to point out menu items that were popular among guests as well as themselves. We made most of our selection based on our server's enthusiastic endorsements of particular items. We made great selections based on their recommendations. I'm pretty sure it was the manager who also checked in on us, kept up with the status of our orders and, along with our server, insured that each item met our specific dietary requests. Beautiful service. Beautiful views of San Diego from every vantage point. High end dining at its finest. Those pastries were exquisite, buttery, melt in your mouth heaven. One of specials of the day was dirty rice with kale, duck, etc. After the wonderfully vivid description of this menu item, I had to try it - my way. Asked - and received - the egg topping cooked the way I wanted. So delicious. It was wonderful and so plentiful, I needed a takeout box for the leftovers. read more

This place is amazing! If you love flavor I recommend the caviar tater tots. Me and my family love this place. The Shirley Temple is phenomenal! Truffle fries are nice and seasoned. Dark chocolate ganache is very tasty! And escargot is nice as well with bread. The service is nice and quick! Our waiter was the nicest ever! A lot of friendly people! Thank you Bill! You're the best! Thank you! The atmosphere is very nice and the view is unlike anything you've seen before! Especially in the evening and sunset! Everyone is nice to you. I like Bill. Overall, Mister A's is UNREAL! If you have a date and want to take them out to somewhere nice, highly recommend Mister A's! Really awesome! Definitely going back! Are babies and young children allowed or is there an age requirement?
There is no age requirment or minimum. That would be illegal. That being said, babies are far and few between at the restaurant because the environment is quiet. A baby and his or her family would be more comfortable at a busy and loud restaurant.
Do they have a time limit? Want to go for our 1 year anniversary and catch the sunset but not sure what time to book reservation, some say it took 30 mins to be seated some say 10mins. Want to catch the sunset @7pm.?
Yes, they have a two hour limit. They are very prompt about reservations and I've never had to wait. I would recommend 7 PM.
Has anyone tried the tasting menu lately, i.e. in 2023?
I have been there a few times this year already and nobody's mentioned that. So no I haven't tried it. Let us know how it is.

Absolutely not! Drinks start, as I recall at about $15 for wine If you have just a meal and two drinks, it's gonna cost you about $100. Just a heads up.
Do they take walk ins?
Yes. But there is no guarantee that they can seat you. Only if there is availability. Potentially you may also have to wait.
What is the corkage fee?
We had dinner at Mister A's tonight, 2/10/2023. The corkage fee was $40. In earlier reviews, I saw it had been $30. I personally feel that $25-$30 is the most that should be charged. Great dinner and experience - just felt the corkage was too high.
Are small dogs allowed on the patio?
Only service and support animals are allowed on the patio.

The corkage is $30 per bottle (2 bottle maximum). If the wine brought in is found on their wine list, the price would be half off the wine list price.

They have heaters at each table. Outside is best.
I'll be dining this Saturday with my BF, how strict is the dress code, I wanted to go casual. Casual for me is nice pair of jeans nice blouse and a blazer will that work?
I dont think they'll turn you away but when I went, every body dressed nicely. A lot of the men at least wore a nice shirt with tie and dress pants.
