Wine tasted good and the service was super friendly. Right on the main street in old Poway. They have a good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. When we came on a Sat around 3 there were a few groups there but not too busy. I got a glass of red and my partner got the wine slushie. The lady helping us let me try a couple options before I got a glass. Prices were fair. $15 for my glass and $13 for the wine slushie. The only negative was that later that night I got a huge headache. Which doesn't usually happen when I drink wine. So not sure if something about how they make their wine impacted it. read more

Wines by the glass (white or red) $13, Specialty wines $13-$16 (prices as of 8/19/23) First time visiting this intimate, rustic wine tasting room and production facility in Poway. Tristan poured for us and was a very gracious host and extremely knowledgeable about their wines. They have a nice selection of whites, reds, dessert wines, Sangria, and refreshing slushies. Their fruit is sourced primarily from California, and they make a little bit of everything. IMO, the white wines tend to be a little lighter bodied, crisp, with little time on oak. The reds were a little lighter bodied than what we usually prefer, but well made. The two "dessert" wines were outstanding. Wine tasting is very subjective, so you should definitely give it a try for yourself. They don't have food, however there are several local food vendors that will either deliver or you can pick up and eat there. The inside tasting room is not huge, but they have a large outdoor patio with wonderful views of Old Poway Park and the sunset. They're open later than most wineries, so that's a perk as well. Stopped here after a hike with some friends. We each enjoyed a flight of wine. I ordered the red and white and she ordered the red flight. After tasting, we decided to order a glass of wine for us and husbands. We closed our tabs and left. I realized once I got home that I was charged for both flights of wine and our two glasses. My friend was also charged for her flight of wine and two glasses. I called the establishment to reconcile the error and had to leave a message. No one retuned my call or refunded me for the overcharge. I tried to call two other times only to get their answering machine. Probably my fault for not looking at the bill more closely, but I would not return to this establishment again. I don't find them trustworthy and never returned my call to this day. Love the wines here. They make the wines in house. They have a great selection of Both red and whites,. I love the white Blend and the steam engine red. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. On Sunday they have live music. You can bring your own food or order from local restaurants to eat at mission cellars. I belong to their wine club and enjoy my two free glasses each month and two bottles every other month. They have a slushie sangria that is very refreshing in the hot weather. The service is great, Tristian is always there and does a great job making sure our wine classes are full. He is very knowledgeable on the wines and how they are made. read more

Something is going on with this place. I went to go to the bathroom, but there were no paper towels. I was thanked for letting them know, but when I went back to the restroom, they still had none in there. When I told them again, I was informed that they had no paper towels and no more toilet paper either. Also, the light wouldn't come on, so I had to use my camera light. That was a couple months ago. I went back last weekend about noon, and they weren't open despite the hours posted on the door (which was 11.) I ate next door and noticed it wasn't open until after 1. My friend has tried to cancel her membership for months, and she has gotten no response and is still getting charged. She decided the only way to cancel was to cancel her credit card. That's what I recommend to anyone. They just keep charging you and hope you won't notice. I don't know what's happening to this place that was so well loved, but it is certainly on its way out. My friend told me that the owners are wanting to sell it, so I hope another winery will move in that knows how to run a business. read more

I love finding quiet little spots I can have a drink and study/get some work done. Mission Cellars is one of my favorite spots for this but it's also great to bring friends for a relaxing glass or two. I don't personally like wine slushies but every single time I come in other patrons recommend them with high regards so I'm sure they're lovey! I'm more of a Cab/Malbec person and they always have something I'll love. I love sitting outside and enjoying the breezy sleepy afternoon in Poway but if it gets too hot inside is lovely, bright, and comfortable as well. I've gotten to meet some owners while stopping in and they're so friendly and wonderful. Even though I'm a red wine drinker an owner suggested a white during one of my visits and it's the only white wine I've LOVED. Wish I remembered which one it was; I'll have to ask next time! read more

This is the second time I wrote reviews about the experience at Mission Cellar. Because I want to highlight the sommelier at Mission Cellar, Peter. It's great taking with him. He is super knowledgeable about wines. I learned a lot. I can tell how passionate he is about wines, also how happy he works as the sommelier. He recommended the Syrah from Lodi for me, which I am very happy with it. And he recommended Petite Sarah to my husband, that is literally his style. That is so great that Mission Cellar has great people working here to make it a nice, homey and cozy place. read more

A hidden gem in Poway. This place is great, there are so many food options around Mission Cellars you can grab a bite to eat, sit on the large outdoor patio and have a glass of wine (or share a bottle like we did). Right across from Old Poway Parkway so in a great location to sit, relax and people watch while you enjoy your wine. We shared a bottle of the Steam Engine Red blend and it does not disappoint. This is not a bar. It is a tasting room. It IS a bar in the sense that you can order wine. It's not a bar in every other sense: there's no food, and really no beverages other than wine. Hope you hydrated properly before going in! It's cute inside , and the decor is warm and welcoming. It's not pretentious. The owner-operator is kind and humble. Service is slow so I wouldn't recommend coming in here if you're in a rush. I really enjoyed the experience overall. I tried the wine flight, and asked them to double up on the reds. There is normally a white (sauv blanc maybe?) that I skipped. I remember when I chatted with the guy about the flight I told him I don't like sweet wines. He said they don't have any sweet wines there. Welllll that may technically be true, but several of their wines are very fruit-forward to the point where the overall effect (to my palette) was that of sweetness. Still, everyone's tastes are different. I like really dry, tannic, full-bodied reds. My perfect grape is Sangiovese. That said, here is my ranking of the wine flight from best to worst: 1. Cabernet Sauvignon 2. Red blend 3. Syrah 4. Zinfandel I really didn't care for the Zin at all. It struck me as extremely sweet. Again, it's a matter of taste preference. Ample parking. What a cute find during a spontaneous day! I was in Old Town Poway to mosey around the Saturday morning Farmer's Market, which I still rate as the best in San Diego! While the Farmer's Market is just as casual, calm and eclectic as I remembered, it ended up being 90 degrees by 11:00am, which even by San Diego standards, was a bit surprising for mid-fall. As I was not dressed for that warm of weather, I was happy to stumble upon Mission Cellars while perusing a nearby flower stand and ran inside to cool down and try a glass of wine. While I do love wine, I was thrilled to be told there was a house-made Sangria not listed on the menu as well, which sounded incredibly refreshing. Despite my general preference to white wine, this red wine Sangria was AMAZING! The best I've tasted to-date by a landslide. The fruits consisted of apples, oranges and lemons that sat soaking in the wine overnight. The mixture gave it a slight apricot flavor. I honestly could have drank the entire pitcher and I'm kicking myself for not purchasing a bottle to-go as they change the flavor every week. Ugh! I lived in Sabre Springs, right down the road from Old Town Poway, a few years ago and I would have definitely come to Mission Cellars on more than a few occasions had it been around then. It's the type of place that the area didn't even know it needed! Keep up the delicious beverages and friendly service! Charming little winery. Stopped by here after lunch down the street and decided to see if Hop Stop was open yet and decided to check Mission Cellars out. At first we figured it was just a tasting room, but upon walking in realized it was a full winery. We were served by John whom is the wine maker's father and he was very kind to us. We did a flight of wine and we really enjoyed them all including the Chardonnay and Rose which I normally wouldn't drink. We also tasted their sangria which I had never had before, but it was very good. John gave us a little tour of the operation and we had a nice conversation about wine and their story. We ended up leaving with a bottle of wine and look forward to coming back soon for one of their music or food nights. Thank you so much for the hospitality, the tour and the delightful experience. Mission Celllars is a great little surprise in Poway. My girlfriend and I wanted to bring in the holiday and hosted an evening at Mission Cellers. We invited the ladies and had a white elephant gift party. The crew was outstanding and very accommodating . We ordered a couple bottles to kick start the evening off with Pinot Gris and Zinfandel. I found that the flavors in Zinfandel was a big surprise of a party in your mouth. This was by far one of my favorite Zinfandel wines I have ever tasted and let me tell you I have had my share of wine tasting. Now, The Pinot Gris was a bottle of fantastic flavors and mild but delicious. Both bottles were a forever treasure that will make sure to bring cheers and joys to any celebration or just because. My girls friends and I were very happy with the service and everyone behind the counter was outstanding. We are looking to create another reason to come back to Mission Cellers. Kaylie, Peter, Hank and the owner Trent were absolutely wonderful and the greatest service from the time we arrived til the end. They went out of there way to make sure that we were taken care of. The ladies were all so impressed with Kaylie she new all about her wines and spoke about each one like she created them. Her customer service was out of this world. Love this little winery so much that I ended up becoming a member the first time I tried their wines! The winemaker, Trent, really knows what he's doing and is incredibly skilled at his craft. Bumped into this mellow wine place as I was walking around old Poway trying to find something interesting on a Sunday. Well I sure did! Mission Cellars is a winery that produces wine from purchased grapes throughout the west coast. I was surprised to find out from Trent, the winemaker and owner, that he also sourced fruit from Oregon, the Willamette Valley at that! Anyone who knows about wines, especially Oregon, knows that top quality grapes come from that area. Additionally, Trent mentioned he's able to get this fruit because he worked up there and still has contacts. In fact, he's also degreed as a Master of Science in Enology from several universities in Europe! Okay, now the good stuff: the wines are excellent! I'm usually a white, sparkling, or rose´ fan more than the reds, but I've been here a couple of times and tried almost everything. I enjoyed some uncommon varietals like Viognier and Pinot Gris, but Trent also makes a couple of great red blends, a new white blend, and well-known Alexander Valley sourced fruit producing excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Lloyd helps him out by manning the shop on Tuesday and Sunday, and knows quite a bit about wines and Trent's operation as well. I really enjoyed sitting outside under shade umbrellas, watching the people go by, chatting with folks and Trent and Lloyd, and most importantly, enjoying Mission Cellars wines! BTW, COVID precautions like masks, table spacing, and contactless transactions are used. Lloyd or Trent will bring wine to you outside once you meet them at the door for your order. Excellent wines! We go wine tasting a lot all up and down the California coast and we were very impressed. They source their grapes from up north (smart) and process here. SD just doesn't have the soil, elevation and weather needed so although we would really love to support local wineries, like those in Escondido and Temecula, the quality just isn't there. Sourcing is the way to go! Everyone who works there, including the owner, are super friendly; they were great with our dog and very passionate, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about wine! Their primivito barrel aged wine and Syrah were my absolute favorites, but the zin and merlot were good too. Very nice, warm, welcoming place! read more

I was so impressed with Mission Cellars. First off, for an urban winery these wines are fantastic. They had about 10 wines, mostly big reds. They were all very well done and could easily be mistaken for some of the best wineries in Sonoma or Napa. Staff was super friendly. Very passionate about their product. A must visit. read more
