I mentioned it was my first visit and the cashier came around and explained the whole menu. The ambience is very respectful to our armed forces. Very humbling to be sitting amongst pictures of individual stories of heroes. They offer the Pepsi product and specialty sodas for drinks. I also bought a souvenir cup, which added two dollars to my tab, but is donated directly to tunnels to Towers charity which I gladly support for our vets. This is my first time here and was impressed by how welcoming the staff was here. They immediately greeted us and took our order. We got the ribs, mac and cheese, cornbread and the meat sampler. We sat at a booth which had different sauces - loved the Memphis BBQ sauce. We had one of the staff check on us a few times. She was super nice! I am from out of town and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I had the 3 meat plate with ham, pulled pork, and brisket (you can choose lean or "wet" on the brisket, I had the wet). Stopped in for a quick bite on my way through PA. The staff is super nice and welcoming here and enjoyed the food overall. I got a 2 meat combo with jalapeno cheese sausage and brisket which comes with cornbread, along with a side of mac and cheese. Tried the pulled pork, turkey and fries that my husband ordered and they were all solid too. When me and my family walked in, it looked really patriotic, all kinds of medals, rank patches, and pictures of veterans all over the walls. On the table we sat at, there was different federal/military badges inside the table. The service up front was fast and direct, and it took about 1-2minutes to order for us 4, (excluding the time it took to decide what to get). Now, I got a pulled chicken sandwich with some fries, it tasted good by itself, but if you put the apple cider vinegar on the fries and try any one of the six sauces at the tables on your meat, I assure you that it'll really improve the taste. Some meals, like a brisket, come with a small side of whatever you pick and a block of cornbread. 10/10 read more

Mission BBQ is located in front of the Whitehall Mall. One tip before eating here: They do not have Hamburgers like most BBQ restaurants. Menu includes Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, and other meat options. I went with the Brisket and Fries for my side. Meat Market options come with a piece of Cornbread. Keep an eye on for what seasonal sides they are offering. Beverages include Pepsi fountain drinks and various glass bottle beverages. Dining room has a decent amount of seating and is currently open. Interior design is heavy on wood grain and decorated with military/police memorabilia. Mission BBQ does not have servers, but they did have some someone walking around checking if you needed anything and keeping the dining area clean. Food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. At the table they provide six different BBQ sauces as the meat is prepared in one style. I was impressed with the Memphis Belle and Smokey Mountain flavors as I'm not usually a sauce person. The Brisket is tasty enough to eat without sauce. My fries looked overdone, but were actually perfectly done and tasty. Mission BBQ does something...unusual at Noon every day: They play the National Anthem which I was not expecting. And the pulled pork sandwich traditional, had a very weird smell to it. And it wasn't great, I spit it out. I couldn't eat it. It was very off then other times I had it. I grabbed two side cups of smoky mountain sauce, you can tell it's been in that cup for a bit. It looked like a Jell-O shot, was not saucy anymore. It was thick and it had a jiggle. The chicken is so rubbery, fatty and looks like it was boiled in water. My daughter and I met for a quick dinner at Mission BBQ. Neither of us had ever been. The young man at the counter, Jeremiah, was fantastic. He explained the menu/options (sandwich, XL, and XXL meals). He was pleasant and patient. Within 5 minutes, we were called to pick up our food. They included a little strawberry shortcake because we had never been to their restaurant. I got a pulled pork sandwich with a side baked beans (xl) and my daughter got the brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese(xl). A drink was included with out XL meals. My mom introduced me to this spot when she came to visit me. She told me the owner was a veteran and had given her vouchers for free sandwiches for my brother and I, who is also a veteran. So I finally made the trip North to see my mom and she insisted we have lunch here. I must say that I was definitely impressed with the setup and all the military memorabilia. Probably about as good of an experience as you can expect to get from a Chain-B-Q establishment and sure as hell better than going to the swill salt lick called Dickey's. Service: Not really applicable here because it's not a formal sit down place. We went up to the register and placed our order and before we could even get our drinks my name was called and the food was ready. It's ironic that there was a Boston Market on this spot prior because that's pretty much the set up here. Place your order at the register, another employee in the background takes care of rendering the food and an expeditor type employee plates the food and calls your name to come and n' git it. No real personality from anyone although I did find out later that the cashier forgot to ask us if we were first timers (we were) because if you are they are supposed to go over the schtick of explaining the full menu. Food: Pulled Pork and Pulled Chicken sandwich with mac and cheese. Working in reverse, I'm not a fan of the mac and cheese. Not enough of a cheesy flavor/texture and way too oily. It reminded me of what happens when you try to make homemade mac and cheese and then reheat it the next day in the microwave. The pulled pork had good flavor but was served lukewarm to cool. The chicken surprisingly had a good seasoning on it and was served at the perfect temperature to eat. The best part easily is the holder on each table with the six different sauces. Pretty hard to not find one that you'll like. Me, I'm a Bay-B-Que guy. Great balanced flavor without being overbearing. Store: Two of the tables we tried to sit at were really sticky, the drink area had a fair amount of gnats/flies around and two of the six sauces at the table we eventually chose were more or less empty. We don't have a realistic option for "authentic" BBQ in the area (there are places that render it but I wouldn't call any of it authentic or to a degree even good) but if you're in the mood for it this place is alright. Nothing was bad but nothing stood out either. FWIW, we'll be back in the future to try a few other menu options that looked good like the salmon, shrimp and sausage. read more

There is an old army vehicle out front that has been converted to a bbq on wheels kitchen thing. We ordered a two meat combo, pulled pork and brisket. There is a variety of sauces on the table, so you can customize it to your liking. There is an ice bin by the register, so instead of the same old fountain sodas, you can get a grape nehi, old style root beer, or black cherry soda. This is the only restaurant that not only caused me to get sick, but my friend as well. I had the brisket sandwich which was actually a bit tasty, however within about 20 minutes caused me to be very sick. The filthy men's room didn't help matters much. My friend had the special rib-eye steak which caused him to have abdominal distress for a few hours after.
