What an awesome BBQ place, if you like BBQ you'll love it. Let me start off with saying BBQ is life. I have several smokers in my backyard and have catered different parties both for work and for neighbors. I'm fairly picky when it comes to BBQ especially with the prices you pay for it these days. If you're going to charge me $30 for a plate of bbq, it better knock my socks off. I went to a Mission BBQ in Nashville when I was there for training. It was so good, I was shocked when I learned it was a chain restaurant. When I think of chain bbq places I think of Dickies which my phone just auto corrected to Sickies and I almost left it . This place and Dickies are worlds apart. mission has real, good., quality BBQ. Good Texas brisket, the sausage was great. Turkey was a bit dry but I wasn't mad at it, it was still good. I also don't like green beans and as you can see from the pic I get the green beans. That's saying something if you knew me. The service was extremely friendly. Honestly it reminded me of Texas bbq spots. Where it's about the food, but it's just as much about the people. Just good people getting together, enjoying yummy food and each others company. I don't know if this is an every day thing but I had recommended my parents go here when they were in the area. They said a server brought out a free dessert to them that my dad still raves about. When I was there a server tried to give us a huge plate of fries but we had all just finished eating and had to politely decline the offer as we were all stuffed. He walked around and found another table to gift it to. So I don't know if this always happens but the two times I know of they were just giving stuff out, pretty cool. We spoke with a couple of employees and a manager, everyone was super friendly, can't say enough good. Inside is pretty typical BBQ joint. They had a six pack of bbq sauces on the table. As much as I like just eating the meat so you can taste the meat and smoke, I also love me a good bbq sauce. They had a couple that were pretty yummy. You absolutely have to get the cheesy potatoes. I crave them more often than I'd like to admit. It's. A good thing I don't live closer to this spot cause it would be a problem. I'd stop in just for a side of the potatoes. I'll definitely make the hour drive to come back. It's worth it. I've been to most of the BBQ spots in Utah, this one is definitely up there for me among the top. Bam Bams and Pats have been my favorite spots for years. This might take the #1 spot for me though. read more

On 3 December my spouse and I went here to eat dinner. This was our first time here. We're both ordered the shredded brisket sandwich, his with beans, mine with Mac n cheese, we also got two refillable cups. The total was $45 and change. We got our drinks and sat down, looked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. We waited maybe 5 minutes for our order, not bad at all. I took the first bite of this sandwich, and it was so tough, I could hardly chew it. WOW I was so disappointed. Then I took a bite of my Mac n cheese, and it was pretty much cold. Let's just say, both sandwiches were maybe a 1/10 and the sides 2/10. So disappointing that they would serve meat this tough. It was only 6pm when we went, and they weren't slow, so I figured the food would've been fresh. Spending $46 on dinner that was this bad, I should've went with a frozen pizza instead. At least it would have been fresh and hot! I would NOT recommend this place for dining. Spend a few more dollars and go to Texas Roadhouse. read more

Tried this for the first time the other night with a friend. I ordered the lean brisket and two sides (baked beans and Cole slaw). The brisket was tender, the beans tasted like they came out of a can, and the Cole slaw desperately needed some salt to bring out the flavors. The cornbread that came with it was sweet (I come from a savory cornbread family) but tasty enough. There were 7 sauces on the table and only one of them was edible. Most of them were vinegar based or very vinegar forward, even though the regional titles are places where the sauces contain no vinegar. Like the St. Louis Sauce (I am from STL) where we do NOT put vinegar in our BBQ sauce. Same for the KC Sauce which was heavily vinegar forward when they do not put vinegar in their sauces either and are on the sweet side traditionally. We finally settled on the Smoky Mountain which was the least offensive of all of them. (And you could tell most people pick that one too because all the other bottles were full and that one was almost empty.) The service was...over-eager. After we had gotten our food and were eating we kept being pestered to try samples of different proteins. That is something you do when customers are at the counter deciding what to order, not when they are already eating. The entire restaurant is military themed, strongly supports the service, and is raising money to fund a memorial for veterans of the War on Terrorism. I have no issues with any of that personally but I know others do, so fair warning if you are not a supporter of the military or such things, you probably don't want to spend your money here. My biggest issue (aside from the atrocious sauces) was the a la carte pricing for everything. $24 for brisket, two sides, and a regular beverage. I don't know what this current BBQ trend is with the a la carte pricing but I am NOT a fan. Steve's Black Sabbath does the same thing. That was also a one and done for me. The best deal for me in Ogden for good Texas BBQ is still The Lost Texan in Pleasant View. They have combo platters that don't break the bank and plenty of delicious hot and cold sides to choose from. And sauces that taste like they should. read more

This place is definitely a hit! Our food disappeared so quickly that we didn't even get a chance to take pictures. Everything is seasoned with their house spice blend and smoked over oak wood, which gives it such a rich flavor. The manager was incredibly kind and took the time to walk us through the menu, answer all of our questions, and even give us some great recommendations. We tried the pulled pork, brisket, and smoked turkey breast very tender, flavorful, and moist. The meats are offered in portions around 6-8 oz, but we went with the 4 oz sample sizes so we could try more variety. They also have a selection of BBQ sauces available, though honestly, the meat is delicious enough to stand on its own. It's exciting to see such a great variety coming to Riverdale/Ogden. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Nice addition to Riverdale and what has been a BBQ desert! Brand new and first visit so I had to try the brisket, it was exceptional. Dry rubbed and perfectly smoked. You can choose point (fatty) or flat (lean) or you can get the chopped. For sides I tried the Mac and Cheese (good) and the collared greens (great.). It comes with a chunk of cornbread (very good). They've got the bbq staples plus smoked turkey or pulled chicken. Those are for next visit. There's even smoke salmon on the menu. Lots of sides and superb drink menu. They have 7 signature sauces and all were decent. Pricing is a value for good bbq. Good bbq is not cheap so expect the $10-$13 range for a sandwich and $10-$14 for your meat options. Servings are about 1/2 pound so very reasonable. You can do a combo which is a meat +1 side or the XXL combo which is a meat +2 sides. Both include a drink and cornbread. The XXL will run you between $17-$26 depending on which meat you choose. You order at a counter and pick up your own tray. There is NO TIP SHAMING on their system. Excited for these folks to prosper here. Judging on the first visit, they surely will. read more

This place is great! It gets very crowded so keep that in mind. I have been twice and have had a pulled pork sandwich and a brisket sandwich. Both were delicious. They give huge portions. The fries I had on the side were great too. They have six bottles of different barbecue sauces at the table to try, my favorite is the smoky mountain. The decor is tribute to police and fire departments all over the state and it was fun to look for the patch from our city. read more

Great BBQ. This is a great BBQ place. It is a chain but the owner goes out of his way to make every customer feel welcome and served well. The meats are great...the brisket is a bit dry sometimes, but wonderful flavor! The pork is wonderful. I think their sausage is my new favorite. The sauces are authentic. They even had Alabama (Huntsville) white sauce!!!! That would be wonderful on some Hush Puppies...but that is a corporate decision. I felt a little reserved about coming here but the staff was very nice and friendly. They took time to explain things to me and give me a sample. They are very supportive to military memebers! The food was delicious and I was always looking for a good BBQ in Utah, I only wish they had one in Heber! We tried to go here on a Friday evening and it was really crowded. Thad's a good sign. Came back on a Thursday evening, still busy but not as busy. Did learn that the line moves rather quickly and even though there was a line we really didn't have to wait long at all. Had ribs and fries. Ribs were fall off the bone tender with really good flavor. They have six different sauces to try, all pretty good, I liked the , regular KC, the hot honey wasn't hot enough. Ok all the stuff that matters, they did so phenomenally well. We tried every meat they offer except for the spicy sausage and it was all really really delicious. It's much shorter to share my "room for improvement thoughts" than to gush about all the deliciousness. So honestly the only things that I felt were subpar were: -The green beans. They were just, whatever. Canned green beans with some minced onions. Nothing to crave later on. -The cornbread. It was still probably the best cornbread I've had at a bbq place here in Utah. It didnt just crumble and fall apart (which I hate).... I just wish it was served warm so that the butter I spread on it would melt. Other than that, it was all just really great. My favorite sides were the Mac and cheese and French fries. I'm very much looking forward to come back here again. They also had a great selection of bbq sauce flavors. The dining room staff was very very friendly and happy to clear plates from our table. They were friendly and happy. For how crowded it was (the line out the door) everyone was fine and able to find a spot to sit and eat. It was busy but not crazy in the dining room, which is not always easy. I also really loved the decor. The tables and booths were very nice and comfortable. I loved seeing all the patches on the wall and the condiments were stored in a garage tool drawers which I thought was a cool thoughtful touch. read more

Chicken was a little dry as was the brisket. Burgers were medium rare but we were not asked how we wanted them cooked. A little too underdone for those that ordered burgers. Mission BBQ is an East Coast chain but this is its first entree into Utah. Not a huge fan of the military-police theming (institution-wise), but at least they also celebrate individual veterans/ soldiers /cops/ first responders which seems well-intentioned and in good patriotic spirits. For me it's just nice to see the old Honeybaked Ham store get some new life and a cozy BBQ "road house" is good enough by me. Mission BBQ did a well-organized pre-grand opening kick off, where my wife won "free BBQ for a year" deck of cards. (Each card redeems for something diff on the menu, one per week.) Otherwise we also visited in a week's time again for their veterans grand opening party (where one of our friend's kids was invited to be national anthem backup singer) and then again for a regular night's dinner. So far the service had been prompt and friendly, and most important: the meat has been juicy, though the smoked burger, while big & yummy for $10, has been weakest among the pulled pork, flat brisket, half chicken (super juicy) and sausages (snappy casings!) we've tried. BBQ sauces fix most sins! We're looking forward to trying everything including full ribs, fatty brisket, rotating seasonal specials and "Black Plate" deals among others. For sides there are lots-- and while at $3.30-ish each they'll take your meal easily to the $18-22/person range, they are worth getting two or three. (5-oz size still shares okay but you can also get em in $10 pints.) Their fresh fries are way better than In-N-Out's fresh fries -- and you have a choice of 8+ yummy sauces. (We like the Texas Twang, Alabama White, Carolina mustard, and vinegar sauces best.) And while the texture of the green beans and collard greens were a touch too soft, flavor was still tasty. Smoked brisket Baked Beans and slaw also are reasonably good. We wish they had mashed taters with white gravy as an option, tho. With all their community effort, friendly service, and generally good BBQ quality we're 4.5-starring Mission BBQ after our first few visits! read more

The decor is all patriotic and hypes first responders and has all kinds of military stuff too. You can apply to be part of the rewards program but again it's only for first responders, not military. My coworkers insisted I accompany them to lunch; it was their best idea the whole week! The establishment, I'm told, is new to the area, and so far, it's a grand slam. Initially from the back east, it imported BBQ flavors from the South and the Midwest. It was the juiciest BBQ I've had in a very long time. The service was terrific! The team was genuine and kind. They really make sure you're taken care of. I had the brisket sandwich with fries and baked beans. So good! I can't wait to go back. The whole resteraunt pays homage to all those who have been in uniform. Service members, men and women, are celebrated here. Heroes from near and far, from long ago to the present, the walls are covered with America's very best. I salute you, Mission BBQ. Wow what a cool concept, I loved the whole feel of the place. Firstly I want to thank all of our veterans past and present as well as our first responders, thank you for your service. Now, let's talk about this amazing place. So many choices, we opted for the two meat dish, pulled pork and brisket, and it did not disappoint. Both the pulled pork and brisket were very tender and the smoky flavor was delicious, not to mention the amazing barbecue sauces available at each table. Of course I had to try all of them, each sauce better than the other. The place has a cozy patriotic feel which I absolutely loved and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The portions are big and the prices are great for what you get. I paid the same price for a crappy burger at the near by jack in the box but that's another review. Generally I'm not a fan of baked beans but theirs was very tasty. I also loved the corn bread which was included in our meal. This was the best barbecue I have ever had and wished they had a place in Salt Lake. I will definitely make the drive for great bbq. read more

The food is average at best. Probably a better alternative than Good Wood just up the street. But they are GROSSLY overpriced. Eventually, I would predict they'll bring their prices down, but they'll also bring their portion sizes down. Standard shrinkflationary tactic. Also, I'm nearly 60 years old. My wife and I have had dinner at Mission BBQ a couple of times. Both visits were excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. The BBQ is amazing and served in large portions. Both their brisket and pulled pork are on point and their sides are great as well. It's been busy each time we have stopped in, but they clear the tables quickly and we always find a spot to sit. The tributes and support of military, veterans and first responders is awesome. Everywhere you look, there are pictures, patches and local touches to those from the nearby communities. We loved our trip to Mission BBQ and will definitely be back! We tried the brisket, pulled pork, and turkey- all amazing and it was fun sampling all of the regional BBQ sauces (made in house!) They are also a "good ranch" restaurant and it was delicious with the fries. It was an honor to join in the national anthem at noon and see all the military and first responder memorabilia. Food portions seemed small and meats were a bit dry. Kind of a mixed taste with each bite, some of the meat had a good taste, while other was dry/overcooked. My wife and I had pulled pork, jalapeno/cheddar sausage and brisket (lean & moist). Corn bread was dry; again seemed like it was just leftovers from a day or too; or overcooked. Mac & Cheese was overcooked and dry/crusty. Cheesy potatoes were great. Best side dish we had. Overall, wasn't too impressed by the food. Must be charging these rates to pay for all the high schoolers running around and not doing much to really help the customers. The food was dry and just mediocre. The bread was so old it was falling apart when handled. Not good for a sandwich. The young lady at the front counter thought she was being cute, but only came across as rude and obnoxious. Repeatedly asking if we were sure that was all we wanted. "Are you sure, are you sure". We were at another location in Wilmington, NC and didn't realize this place is a chain. We loved it there and when I saw that a location opened in Utah about an hour from our house...we dropped everything and took a drive to see how another location would be. It was perfect! We enjoyed it just as much as the other location. The staff was friendly and helpful. The place was busy, and had a line of two groups in front of us, but they had 3 cashiers operating so it went fast. My husband and I shared a 3 meat plate with side of fries and mac and cheese. We got pulled pork, smoked turkey, and the brisket - which they asked if we wanted loose and juicy or lean...which we always choose lean, so I appreciated the option. I hate getting a bunch with tons of fat that I am not going to eat. The 6 sauce options were nice, we only chose the KC classic because it isn't as sweet as the others and had some heat to it. We also liked the Memphis one, but not quite as much. The meat was cooked well with lots of smoke and charred bits. We also liked that they didn't drench the meat in sauce...we could choose how much we wanted to have. The fries are awesome and fresh and the mac and cheese is delicious. It is baked, so it has browned bits of cheese on top! The only downside is side to this place is that there are only 2 bathrooms, one for each gender and only one person can use them at a time...so they were pretty much in use constantly. They even had a line at some times. Employees appear to have to use those too...so it seems like that will be a constant problem for the foreseeable future. We will be back for sure! If you brand yourself around the military and first responders, back it up with respect! Made the whole experience bad. Stop trying to ride on the back of veterans and first responders. Truly didn't appreciate the customer service. The food was at best alright was truly not impressed, the sauces are out on the table in force like the sauce is what they are selling and not BBQ MEATS! Ridiculous.... The employees walking around trying to grab your tray when you're still eating is horrible.... The staff & owner were so kind and attentive. Such a nice atmosphere!! My husband and I lived in the south for a while and we hold bbq to a high standard...this BBQ met & exceeded our standards. Normally restaurants don't start the mail bringing me to tears. Mission barbecue changed that. As you walk in, they have a wall remembering 911 then they have other first responders, military, and heroes decorating the walls. The smell of the barbecue brings you back to reality and the fact that they care so muchabout people who have given their lives to protecting us. I'm not one for sappy posts, but if you see this restaurant, the food is amazing. The cause is even better. You need to try it out.. the sauces mild and sweet to super hot and spicy. The meat is so tender and delicious the strawberry shortcake dessert is really good, but you don't really have room for it after and you just kind of enjoy it. The dedication to the food service by the employees is equally remarkable. It definitely is the best barbecue I've had since leaving when we lived in the Carolinas or Texas this place knows what barbecue is and they don't own a microwave or a steam table.
