Not really sure what happened to this place. When it first opened quality was very good and now it is very bad. The aroma has a very gamey stench to it that can't be masked with any amount of bbq sauce. The mac and cheese lost its richness and tastes watered down. I also don't appreciate the overt military theme that has nothing to do with bbq unless you've ever eaten in a mess hall. As soon as you walk in the door, the staff far into the kitchen make sure you are greeted as if you're walking into a family member's home. The menu is very simple and easy to order from with options for all the meat lovers. There are also salmon and shrimp options for those who don't eat red meat. The lemonade is my favorite (homemade). They smoke their own meat every day right out front of the restaurant too. Great ambiance is inviting and relaxed with staff floating around making sure every person feels the true Texas spirit that is just cozy. I went here on 5/27 with my uncle and it was a great experience. The cashier was extremely sweet and let me sample a few things because I was very indecisive! The broccoli salad was delicious and so was the pulled pork. The Yard Chicken was stupendous! I tried two sauces with it - KC and Memphis Belle. Both were really yummy! I should've taken a picture of the literally skin and bones that were left! I never eat chicken on the bone to this extent! I don't normally eat baked beans but didn't want to blow my low carb thang! They were really good! (My dog got the cornbread that I was drooling for). I bet you usually don't see bathroom pictures on Yelp reviews ... I just couldn't get over the cleanliness and even the overall beauty! Mission BBQ will always be fighting an uphill battle for my top BBQ place, because Sweet Lucy exists, but they are at least a worthy consolation if I can't get across the bridge. The food here is good, not earth shattering, but they have a ton of sauces, and a very good moist brisket. They ARE a bit expensive, but so is all BBQ. Their mac and cheese was eaten by my daughter, which gives them a star right there, because you've never met a bigger mac and cheese snob than my little one! I wasn't a big fan of their blueberry cobbler, but maybe that's just me. I felt the cornbread was dry. The place itself has been PACKED every time I have gone. It seems to be a very popular spot to eat in Deptford. I particularly don't like their set up, where you order, then just kind of stand in the way while they make your food. They need some kind of waiting area, but I get that that would take up seating. Still, it's annoying just being in everyones way while they try to get drinks, and sauces etc, or to order their food. The inside is exactly what you would expect from a BBQ joint, with a big ol 'Merica vibe; wood, wood and more wood. Country music. Flags. License plates. Etc. Another bright spot is that this place is positively committed to veterans. It might be the only place that I feel the "thank you for your service" isn't just lip service. You can expect good food served fast with very friendly service, I have only at M BBQ, twice, and both times at this location. The ribs, brisket (they serve second cut a definite plus) are both very good, and the cole slaw is terrific. My husband and I were traveling and stopped here for the first time at a Mission BBQ. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. Loved trying the different style bbq sauces. They gave us desserts for being first timers. Loved that everything is made fresh, that there is no freezers or microwaves on the premises. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again. Meat was luke warm at best. Mac & cheese was really good. The corn bread was ok. Butter was frozen so couldn't apply it to the bread without it breaking all apart. I tried all 6 sauces and enjoyed each one. Texas twang, Memphis Belle and tupelo honey heat were my favorites. Overall, just avg. Not the best for bbq. read more

I always hear about this bbq spot so I finally decided to stop in. Upon walking in, the staff was super friendly- which is always a good start. I got a pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries and mac and cheese. I've heard their corn bread is really good, but I didn't get the chance to try any. The food itself that I did have was all pretty tasty, and I am not usually the biggest bbq fan. I liked all of their signature sauces as well. For me, the reason for 4/5 stars is their prices. In my opinion, their prices here are more like dine-in prices- not pick up at the counter and sit down prices. But, overall, I would come back and maybe try another item next time. read more

BBQ is rare to find in the Northeast but I came across Mission BBQ on my way from leaving the mall. The service was amazing, Kayla was super sweet. Chatting with me, answering my questions and even giving me some cornbread (which was so delicious and fluffy). I got the pulled pork sandwich which was tender. The star of the show is the sauces at the table, which I took my time putting a different one with each bite. I was still hungry (the portions tend to be a bit small). I got the pulled chicken and Mac and cheese. Both were pretty good but the mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, still decent though. Stopped here for lunch with my family on the way down the shore. I have been to other Mission BBQ locations but not this one. If you haven't been to one by now, this is a fast casual BBQ chain, you order at the counter and they call you when it is ready. They have all the typical BBQ options. All the different BBQ meats (most can also be ordered on a sandwich), along with the typical BBQ sides. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. You can also buy special reusable cups from here that give you $.99 cent refills, we have them but never remember to bring them. Overall, this place is pretty pricey for fast food. For 2 entrees and 2 kids meals we ended up spending $45. But I guess eating out with a family is getting to be expensive anywhere. The location was clean and seemed to be well run. The workers were friendly and gave great service. I also love all the military, police, and fire memorabilia here. Here's the thing - this is New Jersey and Mission BBQ is a franchise - so immediately people think that there is no way it is going to be good. So wrong! This place gets such a smoke flavor into its brisket, they must be using cheat codes. I don't think you can go wrong with anything off of the Mission BBQ menu. As you can guess by the name, their specialty is BBQ. I personally love the sandwiches here, the brisket is my favorite. To go along with the various entrees, are multiple side options. The sides range from salads to mac and cheese- you can't go wrong with any of them. They also serve seasonal items- my personal favorite is the peach cobbler. Beyond delicious- warm peaches with a crunchy topping. In addition to their awesome restaurant- Mission BBQ offers catering. The catering is priced well, and the staff are very easy to work with. I have been personally working with Chelsea. She is great with communication and super responsive - plus she set up a tasting that was out of this world. So aside from all the awesome food offerings, Mission BBQ is the kind of company you want to support & see succeed. YES, I craved the COLLARD GREENS sooo bad from my first takeout order from Mission BBQ in Deptford the other night (read my previous review) that when my hubby asked what are we doing for dinner tonight, I gave him that look that lets him know I want something, lol! So, I said Those Yummy Collard Greens before they change their sides. (Again, they had told me that they change the "Seasonal Sides" every 6 weeks). I called first to make sure they still had them. A different girl answered this time who was also so nice and accommodating as I asked not only if they my My Collards but also how I could order just sides of that for me. She explained the sizes, then put me on hold for a brief second to see if they had what I wanted to order which was 2 quarts (no, I can't eat that much in 1 sitting...just wanted plenty for not only me but the family if they wanted some....although I do secretly hope to eat them all myself over the next few days, lol!) She got back on the phone with me and offered to put it aside for me! I was so happy to accept that and just let her know hubby would come to pick those up and also pick an XXL Combo for himself. Hubby came home with the 2 One Qt containers of the Yummy Collard Greens with sides of the yummy vinegar sauce we add to it plus his meal which was a Half of Chicken & his sides of baked beans with corn bread. I was back home​ visiting family and stopped by for lunch with my family. I had heard great things about Mission and this location and others and had pretty high expectation. The staff was​ really nice, they explained​ the concept and menu well. After going back and forth looking at a lot of delicious option,s I decided​ on the Black Plate Special. They were serving a Pastrami Smoked Brisket, I had it as a platter with two sides. There was a decent portion of meat with a nice mix of tender meat a​ rich fat, and a side of very flavorful mustard​. The meat was very tender but really​ lacked the bold flavors from pastrami, at needed more of that peppery, coriander​ flavor. The two sides were also lacking- the potato salad was bland and just OK, ​and the coleslaw​ was nothing​ special. I found it expensive for the quality of what you got. read more

This is my first visit to this restaurant, but not my first visit to the franchise. I ate at another Mission BBQ in another state. This place is a homerun. The staff is friendly and helpful. My wife and I got here around 5 pm. There was no line, at 5:30 pm it got crowded. The staff moves the patrons through at a fast rate. If you get here and there is a long libe, be patient! It's worth the wait. We both got the 3 meat platter, I had 2 turkey and 1 brisket portion (lean cut). Green beans and maggie's mac-n-cheese with a large sweet tea. Dessert, one of their large brownie slices and a sample of the coconut creme pie. My wife had the baby back ribs (5 bones), brisket and chicken and a sweet tea. We both enjoyed our dinners. You get enough food to fill you up. You won't leave here disappointed or hungry. They take cash or credit/debit also. One thing I would suggest is trying the "Alabama White sauce" on the side to dip your turkey into. Its a mayonnaise based sauce that really goes well with the turkey.
