Ordered on grubhub, a lb of brisket, lb of pulled pork and a side of Mac & cheese. First, the sauce. AMAZING. Very little needed if you order it on the side. Their Buffalo whiskey sauce reminds me of Rudy's in Colorado (which, is usually the only place I like bbq). Pork was tender and juicy. No notes. Mac & cheese - cheesy, even cold (no one's fault, just delivery) Brisket - ordered it as 'dry rub seasoning' and while it's good, the thin, square shape throws me off, and I don't see smoke rings, for what I'm accustomed to in smoked brisket. Palatable, but not melt in your mouth brisket I'm used to. While still delicious, at a higher price point than the pork at the level the brisket was cooked, lowering the cost a bit for lesser cuts might be beneficial. read more

I haven't been here in years, but man I returned today and I think it's only BETTER! I had the brisket sandwich and it was sliced perfectly thick/thin! I got zero gristle or any fat deposits, pure tender beef brisket! I went with the dry rub and sweet and tangy sauce and glad I did. Excellent stuff! Side of Cole slaw and some birch beer and everything was outstanding. Rivals my favorite BBQ in the area, Mike's in Philly. And I've had them all. I was in a rush to head back to work but I had to stop here! Lumpy's BBQ takes me back to the South and fulfills my BBQ cravings. The cashier was super sweet and made some good suggestions I got the TexMex Chicken Sandwich. It was a bit on the smaller side size wise but the flavors were all there! I really enjoyed it and the BBQ sauce was phenomenal! I suggest getting the spicy one. The inside is a homey small town vibe, lots of places to sit and it was decorated for the holidays. I wanna head back for some of their actual BBQ. Also a woman came in to get two 50 dollar gift cards so I consider that a testament to the quality of the food. This was a first time order and it was so worth it!! I ordered through DoorDash so I can't speak for what the restaurant looks like. But the food was beyond amazing!! The ribs were cooked perfectly and fell off the bone. The burnt ends were crispy and delicious. And the pulled pork and brisket were awesome!!! Also had hot dogs, that were huge and tasted like a summer bbq party. And the banana pudding was awesome!!! We had sides of Mac and cheese, bake beans, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Second only to Sugarpuddin's, this IS Camden County's it spot for BBQ. We got a variety of food for a friend's birthday, so I was lucky enough to sample quite a bit. The brisket and pulled pork were flavorful and tender. I'm VERY particular about my ribs (and therefore don't tend to like them most places). Their dry-rubbed ribs were to die for! So good! Fell off the bone! And the greens... I finished the side dish of the collards without any remorse. Even the buffalo wings were good. This place has really gone downhill in recent years. In the beginning the food was great and they were the best cheese fries I ever had. Period! But now, you order cheese fries and there is barely any cheese on them making you have to ask for extra which is of course an extra charge. How convenient. Tonight was the last straw. We ordered a cheeseburger, cheese fries and my husband got a pulled chicken platter with meat and potatoes. While the delivery was fast, when we got the food the cheese was broken. Meaning, the cheese separated due to overheating. I called to let them know it was basically inedible. The girl said I know, its our new cheese. You know??? If you know its terrible, dont serve it. I asked for a refund on our extra charge for the fries and I was put on a long hold just for her to get back on the line, with the manager talking in her ear in the background. She told me they "didn't know how" to process a refund and that would i like a credit for a future order? My husband had said we were never going back there as this was like the 4th time we were underwhelmed with the service and the food so I said no, id like our refund. My Sexylove ordered the pulled chicken platter with a side of green beans (flavor akin to collard greens), and I ordered the pulled pork platter with a side of cole slaw. We both opted for hot sauce instead of mild, and we waited for our food at our table with bated breath. He and I are talkers but I don't think we came up for air the entire time we ate. We "oohed" and "ahhed" like two starved wackos. The flavor of the pork was amazing and the cole slaw was an awesome accoutrement (I have been dying to use that word all day today). We even ordered some food for later...it was that good. Lumpy's seems like more of a to-go place, as there were a good amount of people picking up orders. That being said, there are a handful of tables inside, should you require your BBQ gratification right then and there. The atmosphere inside is a bit dingy (clean though) but the vibe was very chill and relaxed. I am not an expert on BBQ and styles of BBQ and all that jazz, but I can tell you it was BBQ-tastic. Had the misfortune of interacting with their business during the harvest festival in Barrington. I asked a question to a staff member and was met with the worst customer service I have encountered in a long time. Business made some people wait 15 minutes for food in one line while others were served quicker in a separate line that employees didn't let people know about. Me, a customer, went out of my way to inform standing guests of the looong line in lieu of the actual business to help people. We ordered catering trays yesterday for a first birthday party. A tray of pulled pork and a tray of dry rubbed beef brisket. I cannot tell you how delicious this was and how many compliments we got from our guests. When my son in law brought it home I couldn't help to notice how perfectly packaged it was for travel. This may not seem like a big deal but I've transported food home many times only to find it's spilled or leaked. The customer service was outstanding as well. Thought I'd try to see what this area had in terms of BBQ. It was one of 3 options and had the best reviews. The service was minimal, but friendly. It was fast food style, walk in, order and then pick up when called. Menu was small. Definitely does not serve BBQ like the south. It was overly priced too. I ordered the burnt ends, although delicious, it barely filled me. The only extra condiments you get, you have to order extra. No onions, no beans, no cornbread, no regular bread unless you add it on. They were busy while we were there though, so enough people enjoy it that it is able to stay afloat. First time here and it was just ok. Bbq chicken sandwich fell short, rather blah. Opted for the cornbread instead of the fries, which cost me $15 for a piece of chicken on a roll and a small corn bread. Ouch! The special does not include sides so we ordered collard greens and 2 order of fries. We have ordered Lumpys in the past for delivery. Overall I enjoy the taste of the food. The rack of ribs were a bit burnt on the ends but decent. I enjoy the pulled pork as it is flavorful and the brisket is good. My daughter loved the fries. I think the collard greens was a small portion and lacked flavor. For the cost of everything I think this is reasonable. We also like that it is close by. A little place stuck in a strip mall. I had heard good things about this place, so when I was in the area, I decided to give it a try. The menu had the standard bbq favorites, ribs, brisket, baby backs, wings etc. They had burnt ends! Which many bbq places up here don't have. I ordered a brisket sandwich ($7.00, came with crab fries) and a half pound of burnt ends ($7.95) to go. They ask you if you want hot or mild sauce. My suggestion is whichever you choose, ask for it on the side. They kind of go heavy on the sauce. I chose the mild, which is a sweet sauce. I figured I could add heat when I got home. I was happy with the portion size. Brisket sandwich came with about six pieces of brisket. The brisket was tasty. I had to dab a lot of the sauce off the sandwich. It was drenched in it. Once I did that, you could taste the brisket. The only drawback was you didn't get a good smoked taste that I like in brisket. Maybe it was the overwhelming sauce. The brisket wasn't dry, though, so that was good. The burnt ends were great! Nice and tender. Had to dab some sauce away, but, yum, yum. I could definitely do a sandwich with those. Definitely would go back if I was in the area. Good bbq, not as good as bbq below Maryland, though. I'm still in search of that drive miles out of my way place. It has been said and I am able to admit to being a snob towards certain food groups or styles. That is not the case with bbq, I have neither the experience nor inclination to make this cuisine any more than a once in awhile indulgence. With regards to this specific area, this was my first foray into the Q. Lumpy's was selected based on Yelp and its proximity to Trish's house, who in fact was craving the stuff and also unfamiliar with area spots. By both of our opinions we chose well and will likely return. Best of show was the bbq half chicken, at under $10 for it and one side, it was a bargain as well. We asked for it to be cooked with mild sauce and it came out tasty and quickly. The meat was tender and not too dry. The smoke flavor was there but did not overwhelm the fowl or the sauce. Our bowl of brisket chili was interesting. It was chunky and flavorful, but lacked beef and its savory flavor. More brisket in this would make for an outstanding bowl, garnished with sour cream and scallions even award winning. Our side selections did not wow, mashed sweets for Trish and Mac n cheese for me. We'd probably skip both. Some bbq places confound you with sauce options, only 2 to select here(?) of the two I preferred the spicy which may be suited for mild or medium people as well. The interior was clean with about 10 tables and a drink cooler and soda fountain. Most orders seemed to be takeout on this day. I love good barbecue, but it can be hard to find it in the Philadelphia area. This isn't the south. Here cheesesteak and pizza places are on every corner, not BBQ joints. Lumpy's BBQ can be literally hard to find. It's easy to accidentally drive right past because it sits in a nondescript shopping center and isn't all that visible from the road. I've passed it a thousand times and never noticed it. I only found it because I was looking up some other local restaurants on Yelp. However, I can happily report that Lumpy's has the best barbecue that I've ever had north of the Mason-Dixon Line. It's a simply decorated place and operates much like most barbecue restaurants. You go the counter to order and you get your own drinks. Your food is brought to your table when it's ready. When we first walked in and saw we were the only diners in the place, we were concerned, but they clearly do a booming take-out business. I was also really excited to find out that they deliver. We ordered pork ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends. They were all delicious and served with 2 sauces (hot or mild). The burnt ends were especially delicious. The sides we chose were good, although the mac and cheese was not as good as I would have hoped for. In doing some research on my phone on the way home, I read that the owner competed on the BBQ Pitmasters TV show, so when we got home, I immediately bought that episode on iTunes. As a transplanted southerner, I miss good BBQ. It is one of my biggest complaints about this part of the country: there is just very little good BBQ to be found. That said, Lumpy's is an exception.
