Yummy, a freshly prepared hoagie that I loved! I got Rose's special which was HUGE like.. bigger than my head. Stuffed to the brim. I also added lettuce. Hardly finished half. Now added to the list of one of my staple spots to stop by when in the area. Very good price point for like $13. read more

Totally horrible. Had 2 sandwiches, a cheese and Italian hogie . Meat is cheap and sloped on with no assembles. If you want a low quality hogie go there. You're better off paying 4-5 dollars more and getting a sandwich you can enjoy. The steak was chopped to max and had no taste. please skip this place. the help looked like they need help. Bad all the way around. read more

I have been hearing about these infamous cheesesteaks and hoagies and had to make my way over. A friend of mine split a cheesesteak and an Italian. Walking in your hit with a family vibe and just smell the vinegar and onions in the air... it is divine. The place was really clean and you could tell they just renovated or added. The staff were really great and for that reason I will be going back. I took a star away because the cheesesteak just wasn't good. Very wet and just saturated the roll and it had cheap wiz which looked like water. Great flavor but that's all for the steak. However, the Italian was terrific. Perfectly portioned for a bite size, and held together very well without falling apart ! I highly suggest their hoagies ! I will be back. read more

i was in the area on 1/13/26 and thought i would stop in and get a sandwich to go. i live about 45 miles away. i ordered a turkey/swiss hoagie no onions and hot pepper. i got home and sat down to eat this sandwich. i opened it up and it was not what i ordered. it had more lettuce on it than meat. no peppers and it did not taste good at all. this sandwich was $18.00. what a G/D rip off. i could have bought 2 at wawa for that price and got what i wanted. i will never go back again. totally unacceptable. i live too far away to go back and bitch. it has not been the same since the owner bought out del Bunos and Carmen's and combined the 2. We go here every single time we are in New Jersey (which isn't often enough)... their Italian Subs are amazing! The bread (from Del Buono's Bakery) is to die for... and they stuff it with the most delicious deli meats, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, herbs, oil & vinegar, and they never judge me for adding mayonnaise and spicy mustard to mine (at least not that I know of... haha)! My first visit to Carmen's was in 1994, and the quality remains at the highest level! read more

Great hoagies! I got the Rose's Special and it was great. I'll definitely be back. Conveniently close to 295 and the NJT.

Really good, but also a treat. I typically do not like to spend $25 on sub sandwiches or hoagies. But why not today? I enjoyed my Italian as is. They mixed up my order a bit, but what an easy fix. Since this was just lunch, I probably need to remember to get one and share it. This hoagie was huge. Definitely big enough to share unless of course you carry a big appetite. My order was done on time and while they appeared super busy, their customer service remained on point. There was a new entrance a door over on the Main street with a sign that says 'under construction' at the original door in the corner. There was much more space than recalled in the newer space. I highly recommend this place and will keep coming back. read more

Awhile back my boyfriend and I found a list of top 50 South Jersey foods to try. We've been working our way through it and today was Carmen's Deli! The list has Rose's Special which is a hoagie with domestic and sharp provolone, prosciutto, sopressata, capicola, roasted reds, onions etc. We took the tomatoes off, they are normally included. Now I'm not a hoagie girl, but I can appreciate a good one when I see it and WOW this one is good! First of all, it's huge! Was enough for me and my boyfriend to split. The flavors were DELICIOUS! Not only did all the meats and cheeses blend so well, but the roasted reds and oil/oregano added so much flavor. The meat was so fresh and the Del Buono roll was perfect. We had to drive pretty far to try this (we were semi in the area) but we both agreed we will be back soon to get another! Yum!! read more

I need to start this one by saying that I am well aware you only get a certain amount of calories in a day... and YOU NEED TO MAKE THEM COUNT. I refuse to spend them on mediocre food; they need to be put towards things that make your mouth water... and Carmen's isn't it. But Somerdale Cold Cuts is... so off we went there instead, and you should too. But here's the detailed run down: Somerdale Cold Cuts is our go to joint, because I don't think there's much else in the world that can be better, but today I was on the hunt to see what else the area has to offer in terms of sandwhiches. We found Carmen's from the dozens of reviews praising their product. But right off the bat, our experience was in the shitter. Service: We ordered two sandwhiches and then stood there for about 15/20 minutes when two older women looked at eachother and said, "what the hell do they want?" Uhm OUR SANDWHICHES MAYBE? So they literally took our order and then forgot to make them??? We were the only ones in there... I'm confused and that's just rude to say. Food: Well besides the fact that I asked for oil and vinegar and only got vinegar (which I could barely taste as well) ((and it only says vinegar on the receipt too, even though I always stress the oil and vinegar)), it was meh. The only thing they got is that they're big??? Because the bread is tough and I shouldn't have to wrestle with the dough, I don't care what "renowned" bakery they're from. And the chicken wrap my husband order was so over cooked he took the chicken out and ate the cheese and tomatoes. SO, I'm pretty pissed that I spent the time and money to come out here and was not treated as a paying customer, but more of a burden AND the fact that they DO NOT have the best in South NJ, but they think they do hence the attitudes I guess. I literally came in quiet, placed an order and I get "what the hell do they want"?!? NO. I learned my lesson to stick to my Somerdale... don't fix what isn't broken!! read more

This place had been consistently good for years... I'm not sure what happened. The inside mirrors what used to be. But what is bought had not been up to par for awhile... And I only go here a few times a year. Anyway.. this is what I wrote yesterday after stopping in for lunch... Hoagies, hoagies, hoagies.... Where can a good one be bought anymore?? Most places are stealing money, serving what might as well had come off of an assembly line... Maybe my problem is when I was born.. Back then, you could smell the hoagie shop from blocks away. By the time you got it home to eat it, the bag was an oily mess. Everything it was made with was fresh... I spend a lot of time kicking dirt on Pats and Geno's for the substandard crap they serve to people... It's time to add the hoagie shops as well as a PSA to the public... So I walk into Carmen's in Bellmawr today with a simple order. An Italian hoagie. Oil, vinegar, and hot peppers... I get home.. the bag looks just as new as the day it was made... that tipped me off that something wasn't right. Not only was there no oil. The only vinegar I had was from the hot peppers that was put on.... I could've saved my money considering the tasteless disgrace on a roll i received.. ok, the tomatoes and onions were pretty tasty. Let's just begin calling this local legend a sub or hero like the rest of the country do. Then let the rest of the country own it and take pride in it.... After all, they don't know any better!! I think my love affair with the hoagie is over... read more

Sometimes you just crave the classics. Here is an oven roasted turkey hoagie from @carmens_deli_nj and the Bellmawr location. As I mentioned, oven roasted turkey, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, and vinegar on a @del_buonos_nj roll. Doesn't get much simpler and better than that for a hoagie. Meat cut sandwich thin, no shortage of fresh crispy water veggies, and I am a lover of onions as well. For additional price, you can add pickles and peppers which I wish I would had done. read more

Ordered a breakfast sandwich with egg whites yesterday. All good. Place a order for two sandwiches today made the same way as I do not eat traditional eggs. Not only was I greeted by the nastiest counter woman who not only hung up on me the first time I called, she took my order with my egg white request when I called back. Apparently, they don't do egg whites when I just had this sandwich yesterday. ‍When I checked my order before departure it was completely wrong and no one on site was able to correct it. Cook shows up, cannot refund me $15 for the 2 sandwiches and gives me the managers number. Manager tells me the same story and will reverse the charge later today. Two things I can't tolerate in my consumer experience : inconsistency and poor customer service. The latter being the worst for me. I get that ppl have bad days but damn- it's 9am on a Sunday?! Smh. Now if I had returned the same attitude she gave me? I'd be wrong. read more

I haven't been in there for over a year. Place is real clean and there were two ladies o ev was making the sandwiches & the other I was working the front desk. I ordered an Italian hoagie extra-large with extra onions, and no oregano. Extra onions on your side and hot peppers in which they charge a nominal fee that was acceptable and that everybody else charges. I got that sandwich home and I took one look at it and I died with Ecstasy - best looking & delicious and it tasted fresh & perfect. My husband and I split it and we had the best Hoagie that we have had in a long long time.. I had a bad experience before with their cooked food and I'm not sure if that has improved but I can absolutely recommend you running in there right now and getting one of their delicious Hoagies when those two ladies are there because that one lady in the back with a long gray / blind hair really knows how to make a hoagie. She can be my mama any day and move into my house because she knows how to make a sandwich.. read more

Check your order!!! Seriously open it up and confirm that your sandwich is correct. Carmens was a favorite of mine for years. Now it's out of my way but I swing by when I can. Last the last couple times they messed up my order. I went by the other day, picked up 2 sandwiches and was on my way. When we opened up our sandwiches, both were wrong. I checked the receipt and there was my order. But the sandwiches were not close to what we asked for. I tried to eat it, but it was loaded with stuff I don't like. read more

I have been going to Carmines since I was in high school in the 80's. After moving out of the area for several years, I made it a point to revisit this before I got on the NJ Turnpike to head home. This place has not changed one bit, and that is great! I was surprised to see that they where on FoodTV for their cheesesteaks, as this is a new offering to their menu. My favorite sandwich here is the Rosa's Special Scillian - named after the owners mother (and original owner). It has Slicing Provolone, Hot Capicola, Prosciutto, Sopressata, Roast Peppers, Tomato, Onion, Oregano, Sharp Provolon and Oil - and is about the best sandwhich you will get this side of the Mason-Dixon line. I'm not sure why someone said this is cash only, as I used my credit card for the purchase. Best hoagie shop in South Jersey, if not the country! read more

Tried the Roses Special, Mozz Sticks and later the Cheese steak. Mozz Sticks weren't my favorite. The Roses Special was decent, but quickly became a soggy mess. The colld cuts weren't the most flavorful. The steak though... Wow, man. Really flavorful meat on REALLY good bread. I usually get my steak with some mayo and onions - not sure why I didn't specify this time but their regular configuration worked fine for me (steak/cheese). Fair warning, it's a SALTY steak sandwich (maybe even too salty) but I like it like that! I'll be back. read more

This place has a reputation for great hoagies. You get a reputation by doing something consistently for a significant period of time. I would, therefore, add that Carmen's has a reputation for screwing up orders. Consistently. Visit #1: They gave us the wrong bag, which we discovered at home...20 minutes away. After a long ride back to get the right bag, they were VERY nice, and spun tales of how much they pride themselves on doing things right, and that something like THIS would never happen again. And they were right. We got the right bag on Visits # 2 and #3...but they had messed up the orders in more ways than I can count. Thankfully, we discovered and remedied their errors then and there...without the nasty 20 minute drive back. Long story short: No matter how good the food might be, NOTHING made these 3 visits to Carmen's worthwhile. WAY too undependable. read more

Price changes ( goes up everytime you go there) service is among the worst inthe industry. Last time I was there a person came up to me with 3 different colors in hair , a million tattos- looked like they were on heroin. It overcharged me 20% on the bill. This will be my last trip. Obviously , they do not care about their business, much less about their customers. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND $ read more

Great food and always pack the hoagies and cheesesteaks with plenty of meat! Very convenient!

This place USED TO BE the best around. I am told there are new owners and if true they have destroyed this wonderful sandwich shop. I ordered roast beef and it was horrible. I swear the meat was out of a package they got at the grocery store. No more rare high quality roast beef. I threw it away.... They also used to have a great cheesesteak, huge and tasty. I don't want to order one only to find out they have ruined that also. Go to Somerdale cold cuts! read more

I have not been here in years so I was unaware that there were new owners. Called in an order 3 steak sandwiches and 2 orders of cheese fries. What in God's name was going on with this place today!? First off it was immediate chaos, there was a sweet but incapable boy on the register. Struggled to get an order or 2 subs correct and then ended up never entering it in so we stood around waiting for nothing. He seemed like he was really high. It was a really tight space too and I had a migraine on top of it all. I could tell the other customer(s) were a bit annoyed and felt put off. Then when they realized our order never went through, a woman threw our sandwiches together and my buffalo chicken was inedible garbage. It was just flavorless slop on disgustingly soggy bread that kept falling apart as I attempted to eat it. I ended up just leaving the other half on the ground hoping a homeless person would find it. There was no restroom, some of the shelves were empty and the drop ceiling was falling apart in some areas. My visit today makes me ask, "How is this place allowed to be open?" Which makes me very sad because I usually love places like this, that's why I agreed to visit this place but was just sorely disappointed with this visit. Just...don't go here. read more

Quite simply some of the best hoagies I have ever had. They are monstrously huge sandwiches- have half for lunch, then save the other half for next day's lunch (or dinner that night?). Great tasting Italian and turkey hoagies. Well stuffed with fresh ingredients on a freshly baked roll from their own bakery.

This deli has won many awards and has even been on TV for their hoagies. It is a really good hoagie but I feel like I would not come here often and would definitely not go out of my way. I purchased the Italian hoagie and shared, definitely too big to eat by yourself. It was loaded with meat and cheese the lettuce was nicely shredded and crisp. A perfect drizzle of oil and vinegar and a sprinkle of spicy seasoning. It was a good hoagie, but not the best. The most important part of a hoagie for me is the bread. The bread was fresh and soft, however I like mine a tad more crusty to hold up the oil and vinegar. If you are in need of a hoagie and are in the area definitely stop in. The service is 5 star. Quick and super friendly. Most customers are locals and are on a first name basis with the staff. I called ahead and my order was ready when I arrived 10 minutes later. read more

If you're ever near Exit #3 off the New Jersey Turnpike, you should stop here. If not, actually, you should go there now. (except not on a Saturday...too crowded...or call your order in) Forget about all the over-commercialized places in Philly, and the argument for who is the "king" of sandwiches. This place is it. There...I've settled that. :) This place is like a mini- time capsule of the Philadelphia area! With it's bags of potato chips, and boxes of tasty-kakes, their homemade Pizzels, and their loaves of wonder-bread. This place has no seating inside, so, take a number. Order any hoagie. ANY thing, and you will not be disappointed. On this trip, I just picked up a ham & cheese hoagie, with lettuce & tomato. The friendly lady, who usually waits on me, is always so nice, and I always dart out of here like I have a sack full of money, as I toss it on the passenger seat. The amount of meat you get on one of these sandwiches is astounding. I split my most recent purchase with 2 other people!! The rolls are sooooo good! It's really just right for a person with a decent appetite. (not overly weird or perverse like Katz' deli in NYC. I mean...really..who can eat that much Pastrami?) Leave the Pastrami in NYC, and come here and get one of these!!! My recommendations are these: Ham & Cheese Hoagie Turkey Hoagie ROAST BEEF Hoagie (Highly Recommended) Italian Hoagie Add oregano, onions and/or hot peppers to your liking and you are in for a special treat that you won't soon forget. This place has the best hoagies around! All the ingredients are extremely fresh. They layer it thickly with meat & cheese - no lettuce space filling here. Another thing that strikes me is their tomatoes; you can definitely tell they are from Jersey! Bright red and firm, better than what you find in a grocery store. I also appreciate the drink selection. 100% natural Tradewinds brand bottled ice tea. No artificial sweeteners, thank you! They also have deli salads (potato, etc.) and the standard variety of chips. There is a barrel you can fish pickles out of as well. The staff is efficient but friendly. They are a little pricey - $7.50 for a mixed cheese hoagie. With potato salad & tea, came to about $11. My family (grandmom, aunt, parents) have been going to Carmen's forever. They make the best mixed-cheese hoagie ever (not sub you freaks). Little miss Mom Mom lives in Bellmawr, so whenever anyone from here goes up to visit stopping at Carmen's is required. They fish-wrap the delicious filling (shredded lettuce, onions and those juicy Jersey tomatoes doused in oil, vinegar, oregano and s&p) so your hoagie is still pristine when you get home three hours later. The Italian hoagie is a close second if you want a little punch. When my folks bring these home, I'm basically gorging for the next 48 hours. You don't want to wait too long anyway--they don't keep well, particularly because they buy the rolls right down the street oven-fresh! *My dad told me Carmen's just changed owners. I haven't tried it since this went down this year... will update when I do. read more

Stopped in here by chance when we jumped off the New Jersey Turnpike for gas and a bite to eat. When I Yelped for a spot to grab lunch Carmen's was literally two blocks away from the gas station we stopped at. That plus the four and a half stars on Yelp made it a no brainer. I got one of the best Italian hoagies I've ever eaten!! The sub role alone was worthy of a five in my book. So fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions and Italian cold cuts solidified the five for me. They put just the right amount of oil and oregano on it as well. Then making the sub humongous and only about $7 only sweetened my argument for a five. Carmen's is an authentic style deli to the tee. Huge selection. The place looked like it has been around forever but is very clean. I found this place by accident this time but I will go to it on purpose anytime I have to navigate the NJT(just off Exit #3) or am in the area. I would highly recommend stopping by and ordering the Italian hoagie with all the fixens. read more

I'm in love with Carmen's. Semi-new to the area and had been trying to get over here after hearing about this place. I love a good sub, or as they say here- hoagie. Either way, it was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Friendly staff- check There were at least 10-15 people inside and lucky for me I walked in just after this guy that's been here before, and saw he walked right over to grab a ticket. Waited in a non-form line, that went pretty quick. So many people working that the wait was maybe 5 minutes before it was my turn. Loved my hoagie! First off- huge! Bread was soft, fillings was full and fresh. Also, side note- I absolutely recommend getting the home-made Pizzelle, in almond. They are like crack. I found my new favorite cookie. And a bottle of A&W rootbeer :) Everything plus chips- $13. Compared to another sub place I recently had, that's a steal! read more
