We're locals who used to enjoy breakfasts here at the outside tables taking in the street scene and sounds of the town BUT..now they play AM radio over the speakers with bad music and lots of wham bam commercials blaring. Who wants to dine while being exhorted to buy car insurance or visit Foxwoods? We asked if it could be turned down. Our server said sure and then didn't. Not paying for that experience anymore. read more

I should have known better after seeing the Dunkin' Donuts in Old Saybrook with a 4.2 rating and Mirsina's with a 4.7 rating. How a fast food restaurant serving mass produced junk can rate that high doesn't reflect positively on the legitimacy of other restaurant reviews. Had high hopes for Mirsina's based on the ratings but left feeling like it is average at best = 2.5 out of 5 stars. We ordered 3 omelets, two vegetarian and one with meat, which were bland, home fries were among the worst we had and didn't eat them, and the whole wheat toast tasted store brand. Thankfully there was ground pepper and sirrachia sauce to add flavor. We also ordered the Hungry Man, an egg sandwich on a bagel and two side orders of pancakes... for a party of 5. The stars are for the pancakes, blueberry and Oreo, which made up for the rest of the food, fluffy and tasty. Had we not ordered pancakes the rating would have been 2 stars. Another downside though is no real maple syrup, just the mass produced high fructose syrup variety in the commercial single serving tubs. The bill without tax was just under $70 which is reasonable for the amount of food ordered. Given our experience with the food this is a one and done for us. Had a wonderful meal at Mirsina's! Service was friendly and very helpful despite the constant bustling influx of new customers. We came when it was pretty busy (around noon), but only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. However, we did have to wait around 30 minutes for food. I'm sure if you come at a less busy time it'd be a lot faster. My mom ordered the Mirsina's Favorite and LOVED it. The Gyro meat was fantastic and their toast is to DIE FOR. Highly recommend this breakfast option (order extra toast!). For myself, I ordered the Grilled Salmon with Sautéed Spinach, which was so delicious and refreshing. I would recommend asking for the pita toasted and on the side because it became a bit soggy when put on top of the spinach. Pretty cool spot in a small town. They have a nice sized outdoor seating area as well as seating inside. Everyone seems nice and the food came out fast. I ordered corn beef hash and two eggs. It was just ok nothing to really rave about, but for some reason my corn beef hash was sweet. Not sure if someone mistook the sugar for salt, but that was a little weird. I ate it anyway. Mirsina's is a really good, normal breakfast place. The options on the menu were all pretty standard, but they come out super fast and they are well done. We kept with the standard and ordered three dishes. We got the Irish Benedict, which is poached eggs served on a patty of corned beef hash instead of Canadian bacon, a banana nut crunch pancake with chocolate chips, and an omelette with gyro meat. Wonderful food! Been here several times for brunch. Omelettes are just delicious with a big variety of what you want in your omelette. We just visited Mirsinas for the first time and we were not disappointed! The two waitresses working were very pleasant and seemed to work well together. At least half the tables were what I can only assume were regulars as both the servers seemed to know them all and the owner (or manager) chit chatted with each table for a bit. We ordered strawberry crunch pancakes and an omelette. The pancake was huge! And they definitely don't skimp on the fresh fruit, the omelette was cooked perfectly, and the rye bread- amazing! Sweet Jesus, I found heaven!! A friend of mine brought my husband and I here. I would have never stopped because it seemed so small and quiet. It was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside for brunch. It's BYOB, but they have a nice selection of juices and coffee. There were three of us, but we ordered 5 meals because we couldn't decide! Real Greek food, if that's what you are looking for. We went here for brunch, and the food was pretty good. The pancake was cooked well and the French toast was average. My problem is with the service. The servers all seemed to have an attitude like we were an inconvenience, and they got our order wrong. When we said the order was wrong, the server just looked at us and didn't attempt to correct anything.
