When you come from the north, you do crave for some good ol' southern comfort food. My relatives and I needed a place nearby to grab some authentic, luscious, and saucy southern eats and we went with this recommendation. The hush puppies were addictive and we had to stop to make room for the other goodies we bought. They ran out of chicken this day but beef brisket was shredded nicely, the baby back ribs drenched in a zingy delicious bbq sauce, and bbq baked beans texture was great and the potato salad was buttery plump perfection. Our host was so nice and graciously took good care of us with our order. Gave us good recommendations on what to order when some items weren't available. The best barbecue you can find in the Charlotte area. A treat to anyone traveling through or a local for that weekly comfort that we call home. As a North Carolina native I'm proud to chow down at this spot every time I can. I'm even OK with them having Mustard barbecue sauce as one of their choices to represent South Carolina as well but they also have a proper North Carolina mop sauce, eastern style and a few other nice tomato sauces on the table to mix and match. This is a local fave for our family! We ordered a bunch of food to go due to COVID-19. Two racks of ribs, brisket, green beans, hushpuppies, Mac and cheese, slaw, bbq sandwich, and banana pudding. The ribs were so tender and pretty much fell off the bone. The brisket was delightful and we love the sweet sauce! The hushpuppies were crispy on the outside and very yummy. I have been very happy thus far with mint hill rock store barbecue. Note, this isn't premium Memphis, Texas, or St Louis hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint, so I'm grading them on their class, which is fast food, comfort food, and quick eats. They are good for convenience, pulled pork sandwiches, and basic items if you add sauce. Their beans are terrible and the cornbread so dry and bad I didn't order it again. I found them via Uber eats with their monthly American Express offer. I prefer to pick up my own food rather than have it delivered and mint hill, rock Hill store barbecue is one of the few restaurants that allows pick up under Uber eats unlike other restaurants where you have to have it delivered. Bonus points for being customer friendly and fast. I ordered the family pack with pulled pork and buns or 8 hush puppies. I added a Brunswick stew and banana pudding. Their pulled pork is quite delicious and I always ask for extra Carolina gold and their tangy vinegar sauce. I've ordered from them six times now and one thing I find is the banana pudding - which could be a game changer is sorely lacking. It's inconsistent and sometimes just the plain custard and air with no cookies or banana, other times, just whip cream and custard, and rarely have I received a nice layer of softened, vanilla wafers, custard, whipped cream, and cookies. Your banana pudding has so much potential since I notice fresh ingredients, but it's not made or portioned with consistency. Everything else is pretty good. I'm happy to have a reliable BBQ joint with fast service within a 3-5 min drive. 4/5 stars if I can get a meal with both well-made banana pudding and hot fresh hush puppies. read more

Should've read more reviews before trying this place out, but we live nearby and wanted to give it a try. We got the family BBQ Pork pack to go: 1.5lbs of Pulled Pork, 3 large sides (mac n cheese, green beans, and beans), and buns. The only thing that was good was the containers the food came in. We literally went home and re-seasoned all of the food on the stove. The pork was not seasoned but was the best thing out of what we ordered. EasyMac was better than their Mac n cheese, the green beans were tasteless, and the beans tasted like they poured them straight out of the can. Even the buns were stale. They could've at least taken them out of the package they came in instead of handing us the bag from the store. Could've went to Harris Teeter next door and got my own buns. I'd rather drive to Smoke Pit or City BBQ. If you decide to order food from this place, make sure to stop pass my house so I can make the food better for you. read more

Their pork is great and not too chopped, so you get some chunks that are just full of umami (flavor)! Baked beans - just a little too sweet for my tastes. Red slaw - as the Carolinas intended. Sauce - I went vinegar based and it was just what the food called for. I originally went for the brisket, but prices have gone up for beef, and in Mint Hill, people won't pay 25$ a lb, so they aren't selling any at the moment. Bummer. Went here for lunch to meet a friend during December. It was so hot inside that we had to sit outside on the patio. (That was basically closed for the winter) other than the extreme heat inside the restaurant, the food was great! The macaroni and cheese tasted like it has four or so kinds of cheeses and was so cheesy I almost couldn't eat it. Who knew something could have too much cheese? I almost bought some of their spicy vinegar based sauce to take home with me it was so good. The place was empty when I arrived at noon and full when I left around one o'clock. The staff was very friendly. I would love to eat here again but I was so turned off by the extreme heat inside. I had read complaints of the temperature of the restaurant in other reviews and thought it can't be that bad. It was that bad. If I didn't live so far away, I would go there to pick up a to go order but it's 45 minutes away from me. It's not the best pulled pork BBQ sandwich I've had but it was good! Got the brisket sandwich, smoked chicken sandwich, and mac n cheese. First the mac n cheese. It was okay, but there was no baked cheddar anywhere in it....no variation in texture or pockets of melted cheese...just noodles and orange cheese binder goo. How is it Chick Fil A has way better mac n cheese and its a nationwide drive thru chain? Next, the chicken. It had okay smoked taste but was dry and unsalty....basically chunks of dry chicken on a bun. I get that I can add the slaw of choice or sauce...but still. It reminded me of that one aunt who made the most bland Thanksiving turkey you've ever had...like...no marinade...no flavor injection...no seasoning...just a pastey white meat laborious chew where you have to take a gulp of water halfway through chewing to finish and swallow the bite. And last buuuuut not least...the brisket sandwich. This was not "brisket" as most people who've seen shows on cable tv spotlighting destination restaurants or BBQ competitions would think, it was dry, hard, bland and stringy pulled pot roast...but with smoke flavor. Being pulled (vs cut against the grain) the meat fibers were even harder to eat when dry and hard, it was literally like chewing warm unsalted beef jerky and got stuck in my molars like beef jerky. If you're not going to offer slabs of sliced (against the grain) juicy beef brisket on a bun....at least drop the word "brisket" from the name because its misleading. The cut of meat may have technically started as a "brisket" but it ended up being stringy overdone chuck roast on a bun. I cannot explain how unsettling it is to bite through a very soft bun and instantly locate the hard chunks with my tongue....almost like I could feel the hard shaped meat chunks right away and had to instantly move it as far back and to the side in my mouth to have any chance of breaking down the meat. I should have quietly spit it in a napkin but I had spent $15.xx plus tip so I didn't want to waste it. Anyhow...the employees were very nice...no complaints there. I've never had issues at the Waxhaw Rock Store location...not sure what happened here in Mint Hill. I love supporting local businesses....and I've had great food at Rock Store before.....please do better. read more

During the big snow storm me and my so decided we would try their bbq. The two young ladies greeted us and made our dinners all while chatting with my son. I decided on the Brisket and a side of ribs. While not to the size and standards of the bbq I had the week before in Fort Worth Texas the food was delicious, portions could be larger but that is my theory on all bbq places. The brisket was very tender... however, the flavor was severely lacking. They have several different bbq sauces to add to your meal but you shouldn't depend on sauce to flavor your meat. The mac and cheese tasted a bit bland but the potato wedges were good. My wife liked the pork bbq but absolutely hated the mac and cheese and white slaw. Went there for second time today...it was AWESOME. Hushpuppies are, no kidding, the best I've had up here. Brunswick Stew was great as before..glad I went with a larger potion. Yeah, they gave me a few (three) little cups of sauce but each was a different flavor? So I ended up with 1LB. of pork and about three tablespoons of sauce. Each container approx. a tablespoon in three different flavors? This BBQ thing is confusing the sh*t atta this Yankee. I do see on their menu that you can order a bottle of their sauce($5) and I would have , had I known, because the portion I got to try with the sauce was good. We ordered to go from this place, which started with an extremely awkward phone conversation where the person on the line did not acknowledge us in any way or give us a proper pickup time/total. It was like talking to a plant. So we were off to a great start! I got the pulled chicken with all white meat. It tasted like school cafeteria food. There were a lot of indiscriminate chicken bits I couldn't really identify. Just awful. I had a few bites and then gave it all to my dog, who was actually a fan. The potato wedges were decent, and I ate them with gusto. They were still underseasoned, though. Not nearly salty enough. Coleslaw tasted like I could have just eaten a glob of mayonnaise. I think I got three bites in and gave up. My dog didn't eat it. Bad, bad BBQ. Make the drive to Midwood--don't kid yourself by thinking this place will be edible. read more

We have gotten take out from the Rock Store in Stallings for years. Was in Mint Hill today and decided to bring home dinner. The staff was very nice. BBQ chicken was great, as always, but the brisket was bland and tough. I am the one in our family who complains restaurant food is too salty. The brisket was smoked, but nothing else, not even salt or pepper it. The texture reminded Hubby of crock-pot meat (which he does not care for). Sides were ok. Green beans weren't salted. Slaw had too much mayo. Banana pudding had no bananas. Or Nilla Wafers. Not to worry. We added our own, although we shouldn't have to do so for food we paid hard earned money for. read more

Stopped in for a bbq sandwich. Floor was dirty, every table was dirty.The batrooms (both I checked) had no paper towels to dry your hands. Went out to order and said I need some paper towels to dry my hands since none are in the bathrooms. No one responded so I walked over and got a bunch of napkins and dried my hands. There were three young kids working behind the counter. No one had a mask on, no one had any plastic gloves on as the worked on the food. I thought this was required. Maybe not. Two of the kids looked lost as they gazed out into the place. When we left, our table was cleaned (we cleaned it when we sat down to eat) but the other dirty tables hadn't been touched. Floor still dirty and still no paper towells in the bathrooms. Never saw a face mask on or even around their neck. It's sad, but we won't be back.
