Good place for a beer and burger. Great laid back old time feel. Classic appetizers, burgers, dogs with drive in food with some modern tastes too! read more

Saturday around lunch time. I would never recommend ordering a to go here. Ordered two hit dogs and onion rings. There is only 1 cook. I kid you not it took at least 30 minutes to get my food. Food was good but you can't really screw up hot dogs or onion rings. If you are a person of color......you might be the 1st to step foot in this place. It is a hole in the wall atmosphere for the good ole boys. Waitress was alright but won't be back. read more

Food was not bad -- clean place very nice owner -- very small portions . Thought it was a Deep fried Pork Tenderloin but it was sliced cooked roast - tender but not my Iowa Pork ! read more

BEST HAMBURGER IN CHARLOTTE!!!!!!! Bar none! French Fries are fresh cooked too! Great hidden gem!

Cool dive bar vibes. Super friendly people. Cold beer. Amazing burgers and dogs. Fair prices. Can't beat it.

I love a good burger and Hinson's consistently delivers on just that. The burgers are cooked on a small flat top by the kindest man who truly appreciates his customers. I have had the Garden Burger, a hotdog, and the Hinson Burger and everything has always been prepared perfectly. It is a hidden gem, that may not be much to look at, but the food is on point! read more

A hidden gem! Great food and service! Super nice folks! Kraut dogs, burgers, and fries are delicious!

We just ate at Hinson's. Reviews seemed amazing, we are locals to Matthews and enjoy supporting local restaurants, however, we will never be coming back again. It took 60 mins to get food to the table. There was a total of 15 people in the restaurant. My husband's family owns restaurants, that is CRAZY long. We ordered burgers, chicken tenders and fries. There is no reason for it to take that long. Mind you we had a 3 year old with us so pure torture waiting. The people next to us ordered hot dogs and it took them 60 mins to get their food...for hot dogs seriously? Our server was FANTASTIC and brought us a box of toys to entertain our toddler. Food was just okay. I love a hole in the wall restaurant (this was the most hole in the wall I've been to) but if none of your money is going into the facility then the food needs to be fantastic not mediocre and take an hour to make. The onion rings were great but everything else was just okay. Fries tasted like they were from the grocery store. My bbq sandwich I didn't even know it had slaw in it until the end. The meat itself was good but could have been more flavorful IMO. I don't think I would go back. I can get the same quality at south 21 and faster. read more

Don't miss out on this piece of history. Before Charlotte was a massive city, this place became an important place to meet and eat. Beer and wine available, reasonable prices and an experience that will transport you back to pre-2000. read more

Just a great - nothing fancy burger joint! Menu offers up several other options if burgers are not your thing. lots family history - very welcoming read more

I really wanted to love this place and give it more than three stars. The reviews led me to think I just found a great new spot to add to the list. I had the special chicken sandwich of the day and my friend got a burger all the way. The sandwiches were surprisingly small, not much bigger than a Bojangles biscuit. They were tasty but again painfully small. We split $16.00 sample basket of 3 sides and that probably wasn't worth the price tag even at half the price. The beers were ice cold and our wait person was fantastic but walking out the door at over $44 for food and a few beers at a dive type bar is tough. read more

AWESOME BURGERS! Billy loves his customers and loves cooking the perfect diner burger and Ellie is as attentive a server as you'll ever find. Get the crinkle fries and round off a phenomenal meal. Ice cold beer and live music on Friday nights. You'll be glad you stopped in to a legendary burger joint. Be sure to ask about their history. It's really interesting. read more

This place used to be good. The food still taste good but I was just in there and ordered two garden cheeseburgers and one large fry. I hate to see what the small fry look like because the large was the size of a normal small fry anywhere else. I can't see them even making a cardboard container for fries that was smaller than the one they brought us. But what is worse is the hamburger wasn't much bigger than a sausage patty! I am not exaggerating! And it cost $7.50 and the "large" fries are seven bucks by the time I walked out of there it was $30 for two sodas, two tiny cheeseburgers and the smallest "large" fries that I've ever had in my life. On top of we over 30 minutes to get our food and it really wasn't slammed. It is such a shame because I really used to like this place. I was still hungry when we left. read more

I got the garden burger, onion rings, and a hot dog "all the way." Absolutely delicious! I will definitely be back. The prices are great, and the food is even better. A lot of places cut quality in favor of low prices, but the same cannot be said here. Low prices and good quality food. 10/10! read more

Delicious burgers and sandwiches made to order. Casual 1950's atmosphere. Friendly service. It's a trip back to good times. read more

4 months in and we're here every week. The folks are friendly, the food is the best we've found in Matthews, and the prices very reasonable. Always bring our family when they're in town. The history of the place is great, cool to see this is still family owned and operated since the 50s (same grill from when they opened as well!). The usual is a sweet tea, pepper Jack cheeseburger, and the best crinkle fries in the area. Strongly recommend for those looking for a low-key spot in Matthews. read more

Excellent burger and environment. Checked in on a Friday night and enjoyed live music with good service and a well-made burger.

This place was a pleasant surprise. Perfect smash burgers in a local spot. The onion rings and fries were superb

Yelp community, you've let me down! We don't keep secrets from each other!! Hinson's has been in business for more than 60 years and they only have 45 reviews?!?! Here's the deal. It's a total dive, in fact it's the epitome of dive bar. It's hard to tell if they are open or not, just pull on the solid wood door to see if it opens. The front door faces the freeway, so you have to walk around the building to get in. You also have to drive through a wooded area to get to it, so you'll feel like you're lost. But don't worry, it's right next door to a strip club. Did I scare you off yet? We almost left without going in, but we thought they were closed. The staff is super friendly, as were a couple of patrons at the bar. It was a great experience just chatting while the food cooked. The burgers are so fresh, cooked on a little grill with a toasted bun, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup and Mayo. This was the freshest, juiciest and tastiest burger. It's so simple, but done right, and priced at $4.50. It's called the Garden Burger, but don't worry, it's not vegetarian, it just has vegetables on it if you choose. This is ultimate hidden gem in the Charlotte-Matthews area. Please check it out and let's represent this place like great food deserves. These guys should have hundreds of reviews... so don't worry about being somewhere trendy, go somewhere for the great food. Let's push them to 100 reviews by the end of 2021. read more

Great hot dogs and fries. A friendly atmosphere, good prices and good service. It's our go-to place for a quick bite.

Great family Phil and his dad don were a team best hamburger in the area always fresh

A little out of the way but the super friendly atmosphere and cooked fresh burger was totally worth it. I loved being able to watch my burger get cooked right in front of me while sitting at the bar. The burger was served super hot and so fast. I need to go back when I can hang out for a while and order other things off their menu. You can see this place from the freeway but you need a gps to find it if you've never been there before. Go check it out when you're in the Matthews area. read more

As with many previous posts, I have driven by this place for a few decades without much thought. I decided on a whim to give it a go and am so happy with that decision. It will now be a very regular stop for me. Food was amazing, place was clean and friendly. Staff was exceptional. It's a family run business and Emmy (sp?) was a sweet and accommodating waitress. She's part of the family and has a wonderful demeanor. Please stop and support these folks. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

Excellent food and fantastic service. Would recommend to anyone looking for the perfect dive bar/restaurant!!

The food was good, the Hotdogs were good, tater tots were above good but did not seem to have ice tea so we drank coke.

The food AMAZING and the servers, cooks, and owners are all very personable. The atmosphere is very homey and enjoyable, even for someone thats as anxious in public as I am, however the crowd of older people still makes me nervous. Good luck finding it, but when you do, you'll be glad. they have been serving up some of the best hamburgers in the state for 50 years while charlotte has gown around them. Locals know this joint, and pretty much every who eats here is known by name. But be a visitor like I was and you will leave delightfully full and happy. read more

When you enter you are greeted by a polite lady, that attends you quickly , the food was AMAZING hands down best hotdog and burger in the clt area , sides are okay pretty basic but you can tell everything is fresh asf. The sides we got were the fry's, mozzarella sticks and hush puppies. read more

Was looking for a place for my family to eat on our way to the beach. Found this wonderful restaurant just by looking on my maps app. Glad we stopped in and ate here. Great service, great food, made to order, and what I would guess always fresh. One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. Don't let the rustic appearance fool you. Everything is fresh made in there. Hand pattied burgers, fresh made slaw, daily made bbq. Mushroom Bacon Swiss Burger was well worth the drive, and the fries where done just right. read more

Excellent! Location is tricky, GPS get you close but the food is off the chain good. Old school burger and hot dog joint. Get the fried pickles with spicy ranch. It's got the perfect amount of kick from the horseradish. Hospitality was great too. They even have live music on occasion. read more

It is a definite dive but those places can be the best. The atmosphere was unique and cool. It was a long wait for take out though. The fried mushrooms were overly oily. The burger was cooked well and tasted good. The hot dog all the way was tasty and well made. The fries were nothing special. I would give it another shot and try some different items next time. read more

Glad we found this place, what a hidden gem. Best burgers and hot dogs in Charlotte area (Matthews), hands down. Service was great too. Oh and they have a nice pool table and a few arcade games. There probably is a bit of improvement needed to keep everything top notch in the restroom but I won't hold it against them since I was there during a busy time. read more
