Walking around in downtown Monroe on a Friday afternoon and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Ran across this cute sandwich shop and decided to check them out. Instantly transported through time as it looks like a 50s diner. I believe we walked in around 2:30pm and they were closing at 3 pm but a lot of other customers were walking in as well trying to get a last minute sandwich. Now, you can tell the workers working in the kitchen and behind the counter were younger kids because they were not very communicative or explained the menu well. We would ask a question and they would just reply with "yes" , "no" or look at us like if we should already know. Either way we ordered two sausage dogs and their Carolina BBQ dog. VERY DELICIOUS! A perfect little pick me up on a Friday afternoon. Their sandwiches looked delicious as well and if im ever in the area, I will def return and try other things on their menu. The owner was very friendly though and made sure everything tasted great! Lots of side street parking in the area. Oh and side note, they only accept cash. read more

Since 1933 Oasis has been serving up their version of hot dogs, sammies, chips, and drink. Strictly cash and counter service, it's an icon smack dab in the 4-block social district commonly known as downtown Monroe. Today I ordered a dog with mustard and sauerkraut and Lori ordered a chicken salad sammie with a side of slaw. The good: the chicken salad was delicious and the hot dog bun was steamed. The just OK: dogs were boiled sitting in a big ol' pot of hot water. Nope. Grill 'em please. The slaw was bitter, unfortunately, too. It's hard to knock 90 years of success, so I'll I applaude all your efforts. However, just not my cup o' tea. Give 'em a whirl and judge for yourself. read more

My dad had heard good things about this place at work, so we decided to try it today. As soon as you walk in, there's a bit of a haze in the air coming from smoke off the grill, so if you're sensitive to things like that, this might not be the best restaurant for you, but they have outdoor seating too. The food is quite cheap and is served quickly. We all got hot dogs. They are boiled, but we thought they tasted good, especially with the slaw. The only other thing to know is that they only take cash. They've been here for nearly 100 years though, so it's been a staple for downtown Monroe for many decades. read more

My one experience at the Oasis was several years ago and it was so bad I never went back. The hotdog was nothing special. The barbecue.sandwich tasted like it came out of a can. Bag chips were good. The drink was overpriced and when I watched others walk up and get free refills I was surprised to be charged for a refill before they would refill it. The staff were very friendly to others who seemed to be regulars but treated me as if it was a bother to even take my order. . I love old school diner style restaurants. They usually have sneaky good food at lower costs. This place is no exception. The hot dogs are great! Don't forget your CASH! Because it's cash only. The prices are unbeatable for that reason though! My only negative was the chili. It was almost just chili flavored water with very minimal meat. I originally thought maybe they forgot to put chili on my hot dogs because it was just juice, so I asked for a small side so I could add more, and then I realized in the cup, it was the same watery juice. If you want to take a step back in time and experience the lunch counter style of eating, this is the place to be! Located in downtown Monroe, it has been here for over 40 years. They serve basic lunch counter foods but are known for their hotdogs which I think are boiled and served on an extremely soft and delicious bun. They also have chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches as well as other options, but the hotdogs are the draw. Cash only. I ordered hotdogs with chili and mustard. They came with chili juice and a hint of mustard. Hotdogs were also barely cooked and not split. I came here because of their reputation as a hotdog place. I cook better hotdogs at home. My daughter's veggie sandwich came with slaw drenched in vinegar. No cheese. The two positives were that the banana pudding was good, and my daughter enjoyed the Russian tea. Customer service was not great. When I was told that this place was cash only (yes, I overlooked the sign), I told them I was going to an ATM and would be back. My daughter would take the food to a table, and I would pay when I returned. They didn't even work on my daughter's sandwich until I got back and paid with cash. I guess they thought I would abandon my teenage daughter over a $16 order. The interior was typical greasy spoon with diner furniture that has seen better years. I can only guess that they stay open due to local seniors who are looking for a cheap meeting place for lunch. read more

Brought my extended family of six here for lunch. We all got hot dogs, some chips, drinks, and a little bit of dessert. I got out a $100 bill to pay for it all. I received $78.40 in change..(!) Needless to say, the prices are most reasonable. Hot dogs are $1.65. And quite tasty! The only thing that was a bit of a miss were the weird 'B&G' apple pies. Oasis should just go with Hostess apple pies. But I definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for hot dogs or sandwiches in Monroe. Owner is quite friendly. read more

We where in Monroe visiting the grandkids and we wanted to try Oasis.Our daughter-in-law has been coming here a Long time.When we pulled up a few tables out front at the door catches your eye.Sorta reminded me of an old drug store venue or soda shop.Just in the door you could order a cone of hand dipped Ice Cream.As we made our choice on how we wanted our dogs we also chose a bag of chips to go with them.And there is a bunch to pick from.My wife opted for a Chicken Salad Sandwich with Let-Tom-mayo toasted.My son chose to have our dogs grilled instead of boiled.Did not matter to me but he really does not liked them boiled.I chose 2 Mus-Chili-slaw-onion.1 Just mustard and chili.They split the dogs right down the middle.As they put the dog together the onions on the bottom.Your dog in the middle,A little lite on the chili and a plentiful amount of white slaw.My wife enjoyed her Chicken salad sandwich.Our hot dogs where good.Just wished they had been a bit more chili.We seated just in front of a glass door fridge that had desserts in it from Banana pudding lemon and chocolate meringue pie.Also had an Oreo pie what our daughter-in-law got.I had the lemon.My wife got a cup of butter pecan ice cream.Lunch was good.Service was good.A cash only type place. read more

We visited Monroe for a funeral and asked at the church where we could get coffee. We were sent here. The counter staff told me that they were known for their "dogs (hot dogs.) We both had Russian tea ( a tea doctored with sprinkled cinnamon and orange peel and I believe it is sweetened), a piece of sweet potato pie and a piece of rhubarb/apple pie. The pie is $1.80 a piece-an unbelievable deal. A large tea is $1.25. The locals come in droves for take outs. The service is counter and you take to a table to consume. read more
